Aurelia by yours sincerely
Hadrian was without a date. Initially, it had been in his intention to take Aurelia to the ball had he not been told of her plans during their last encounter. One might assume he would have a problem with his own betrothed going with another, after all, he'd already put a ring on her finger. But that wasn't the case for quite some time. They were teenagers, set to marry by their parents, although not opposed to the idea of tradition ingrained since birth, they came to an agreement themselves in an effort to prolong their own youth. He couldn't care less if Aurelia went out with another guy as in the end, the outcome would remain signed and set on the contract.

Yet he was a little sour that he couldn't find a date to the ball in time. Nevertheless, the ball was never short of girls to pick up. Upon arriving, at the great hall, he would wander around the area, a particular couple on the dance floor did not go unnoticed. He wouldn't have expected it to have illicit such a sentiment, a spike of uncomfortable tension in his chest: jealousy. Naturally, watching Aurelia in all her lovely ethereality of a dress dancing with an admittedly better-looking guy, was sure to evoke much possessiveness and other ill feelings. While it wasn't above him to go and selfishly interrupt, he knew Aurelia would take a serious offence if he did. And Aurelia... although he might never admit to it, did scare him sometimes. So, swallowing his pride for later, he'd wander to the potluck.

Luck around the potluck. As if in an RPG videogame, he had been led to a better option for choosing not to ruin Aurelia's date. A girl matching perfectly in an ankle-length blue dress. As if in perfect timing, mumbled under her breath about hoping to find a friend. That was what Hadrian was here for, ain't it? "I'd offer to be your friend for the evening, but I think a lovely lady like you should deserve a date instead of just a meek friend." Hadrian said smugly, leaning against the table in a 'cool' way. "We would make quite a matching couple with our blues. What do you say?" Now, Hadrian could be quite persistent, unfortunately. Looking across her shoulder, he would notice the bowl she brought. "What's that? Looks hella spicy."

Softening, the song filling the walls of the enchanted Great Hall that evening slowly came to an end. Simon gently rested a kiss on the top of her head, smiling a little at how it was within closer access than normal due to her higher shoes and wondered if maybe this is what it would be like some day after the two of them finished their growth spurts and achieved their adult heights. Who knew, maybe even AngelFyre would surpass him and have to put up with a lifetime of jokes about him being shorter. She was strong, she could deal with it. As could he. Honestly Simon didn't know. He couldn't really judge that night when his stranger of a father appeared so suddenly at the doorstep and the height discrepancy from the stairs didn't give him a good feel for reality. That entire moment had not been much of a reality, and still with no returned letter, Simon was beginning to think it just a small nightmare - a taunt of family dangled in front of him and then yanked quickly back, never to be held.

"Do you want to head over to the tables and get a drink? Grab something to eat?" He heard food in the magical world was quite delicious - at least that's what everyone said. He really had yet to find that although their version of lemon sherbets were just as good as lemon drops and there was one particular flavor of Bertie Bott Every Flavour Bean and a lollipop that wasn't too bad...

"Or we could go out to the Courtyard where the Festival is being held." Her eyes lifted to his and he broke out into his big smile. "Please don't come to the notion I'm bored dancing with you either. We can stay here and dance all evening and I'd be none the happier. Rather, it is that I don't want you to miss anything from your first official school dance and while they often seem riddled with disaster, the earlier times are the best times to fit things in before it seems mayhem and chaos find their way." Simon was only teasing of that last part. Sort of.

He brought her one hand into his and while he gave her a moment to decide their next activity, he lead her into a spin the way they had done earlier that same evening in the Rehearsal Room just before the dance began. A dance before the dance. A moment frozen in time. A couple finally official.

"Where you go, I will go; as long as I go with you."

When the poem was finished he said nothing more and just began to lead her into movement, as the two began to sway to the music from the band that played nearby.

Hunter stopped and stood to admire Judith's dress for a moment. At first he didn't see anything wrong with it, if anything it was rather elegant and pleasing to look at. Hunter didn't notice Judith was staring at his tux because he was too busy staring at her dress. One could decribe his face having been frozen by amazement. Judith's dress and herself were slightly hypnotic to stare at, and it looked like Hunter was in a slight daze. Although, after a quick second he did realize that the dress was rather large; even for someone of Judith's small stature. Having stopped staring, Hunter shifted his face towards the ground. Normal conversations made him nervous, and speaking with someone like Judith made Hunter worry even more.

Hunter responded towards Judith's smile, with his own meek small one. His anxiety had only dissipated by a little. Seeing someone of familiarity was rather nice, and Hunter was unsure on what to do next. In his head, his words were jumbled up and in utter chaos. However, the words that escaped his mouth seemed smooth and pristine. If one wasn't paying close attention, they would assume Hunter was perfectly fine and not nervous at all: "I would have to agree it is a bit large, but it is also rather... cute to see it and you here in the ball. It is a bit hard too miss, but you are standing by the edged walls." Hunter said meekly, and avoiding eye contact with Judith. He was already embarrassed from having stumbled, staring at Judith, and speaking with her in a crowd. Hunter's anxiety was through the roof, and his ability to hide it so well was just pure luck.

Still though, Hunter's mind was always noticing and taking notes of his surroundings, "S-Speaking of which, why are you standing here? A-are you still waiting for some friends or someone s-special?" Hunter was starting to stutter a bit on his words, but he was curious to know. Someone like Judith seemed very unlikely to have come to the dance alone... at least to Hunter.

Among others, Sana was in the cabin preparing herself for tonight. Chatter and gossip were about, debating the possible champions who would be chosen tonight. Sana kept to herself mainly, worrying. Was it a bad idea to put her little sister as her special person? What if she did get chosen? No. She thought to herself. If she got chosen, good. She knew she was smart enough, she knew she was good at observing, mainly good at casting. She was doing this for her school and for herself. Even if she wasn't chosen, she would offer to be on the team to look out for her classmates. She didn't know how dirty the other schools would play in the tournament, and she wanted to be there to keep an eye out. Sometimes she could be pretty convincing. She just hoped it would work in the tournament.

Unlike the last ball, she was wearing an outfit she felt confident in. She liked how this one looked and the color of it, too. It reminded her of a spring sky in Japan, the petals drifting in the air. Maybe no one else would see what her artistic eye could see but to her, this outfit was perfect. She twirled slightly, amusing herself at the way it flowed around her. She also was going with someone this time. Shamsi.
Not the most ideal ball 'date' but a nice person to have as company. He was laid back and not as uptight as the rest of the students. Even if Sana was technically 'higher' than him in school terms, that didn't stop her from spending time with him. He and Narumi were good and fun people. She liked them both.

Turning around, she looked for Sakura and told her friend that she looked stunning. As always. She gripped her friend's hand and then let go, leaving the cabin as it was time. The Great Hall was beautiful, the organizers had put great thought into it. She hoped nothing would go wrong like last time. Last time was an absolute nightmare.

The ceiling had fireworks that flashed with the upbeat music. The music itself was not dark or scary, and it made Sana feel better. Students chatted and mingled all around, meeting their dates. Schools stayed to themselves mainly, but there were a handful of students who chatted with other schools. No one was trying to kill each other... yet. Kind of.

Why were kids so crazy? She didn't understand. She glanced at the goblet, the center of attention. Now, she had to wait for Shamsi.

Judith smiled as Hunter made the comment on the dress. She always thought ball dresses looked big on her because of her size, because of her being so small, but the comment he made
comforted her. She even blushed a bit as she heard how he called her to dress cute. She looked down for a moment, not really knowing what she should say, and looked back up as he asked her what she was doing, standing alone against the wall.

"Well, i wasn't really planning on coming, until my Ima (mother) told me i should go, make some friends, and sent me the dress; And since i didn't really know who i should take, or no one asked me at least, I came alone. But i don't really know what to do haha, should i dance, or should i just i don't know haha She laughed a bit awkward, she felt embarrassed that she wasn't coming with anyone, but on the other side she was happy she didn't, she was able to spend time with Hunter now, which was all she wanted. She looked around, looking at how the great hall was getting filled up by the minute. Looking back at Hunter. She smiled, while her thoughts were back into the nothingness.

"I know. I catered my look so i wouldn't look hideous. Thanks for telling me it worked."

Trix was caught off guard. They looked down, blushing at the tone of their friends words, hoping they hadn't hurt their feelings. But then Mandy explained and Trix recovered. But then they were caught off guard again, this time, their face flushed scarlet and their har took on a pink hue. " Oh, me? Nah! This was just something I threw together last minute. You are the pretty one." They smiled dreamily at their friend. Was this feeling love? They blushed even harder, hoping that they weren't too obvious. They quickly turned to Emma before they said anything else dumb.

They smiled at Emma and motioned for them to follow. "I made some Irish Stew! Its in the flowery pot on the right side. And Im going for the sushi! Its my favorite!" They decided to pile their plate with all the sushi they could eat, and maybe even more. It was a celebration of all cultures, but they loved sushi so much. And it wasnt like they couldnt go back for seconds. They made their way to a table and met up with the others.

Trix was shocked when they saw a beautiful kitty make its way to their table. "Holy cow, you got your cat already, Mandy!" They put their hand out for the kitty to smell and beamed down at the adorable creature. "Hi Mei! Arent you the sweetest?" They waited for the kitty to feel comfortable enough to let them pet her. "My mom still says no. Not until I get my grades in for the year." For a microsecond, Trix frowned, but, just like that, it was gone. "I hope we can let our pets play together when I finally get one."

Trix started to eat hungrily from her plate as the others got to know each other. Every so often, they woould sneek a peak at Mandy. They just couldnt keep their eyes off of her. Trix tried to be covert about it, but they knew they were bound to get caught at some point. Still, they couldn't stop. The sushi was delicious and they found themselves eating much more than they intended, going back for seconds and thirds because the food was so good. After they had their fill, they sighed and patted their stomach. "Everything was so good! What was you guys' favorites?" Looking across the way, they saw River with another student. They waved, trying to get her attention.

Artemis didn't own many clothes that didn't have rips in them, so she'd blatantly disregarded the dress code. It seemed everyone had gotten a memo that had passed her over, because instead of the glamorous dresses and polished suits everyone else was sporting, she'd shown up in her uniform. A uniform which had since been cut up to create a crop top. She'd spent the morning before with a tube of henna in hand and a mirror held somewhat precariously with her foot, drawing intricate designs all over her stomach. The stark red ink was showing up like snow white's lipgloss against her skin.

She was famished. A night in the infirmary was all she needed to know she didn't want to spend anymore nights in the infirmary. So there she was, sitting with her boots on the cushion of a chair and her butt on the backrest, sipping on a glass of fruit punch, a plate of food on her lap. Travelling had it's perks, but good food wasn't one of them. She'd had enough KD to last her a life time.

Food however, wasn't very big on Axel's priority list. The boy had swaggered over with a hand so deep down his pockets you would have thought he'd lost his keys, smirking down at her and fanning himself. "Cute." Artemis took a bite of her croissant, watching Axel as he drained half the punch pitcher into his cup. "You're my date for the night," she informed him, stealing his punch and topping off her own cup with his.

Hopping down from her chair, she set the food aside, rolling her shoulders. Something crazy? Yeah. Better than going stir crazy from sitting. "Lead the way Pretty Boy"

Hands folded politely behind her back, the girl continued to watch, trying to keep an eye out for anything amiss before she eventually made her way out to the Courtyard. She noted a couple of her teammates and a classmate or two that she recognized, but no one yet that she felt comfortable enough approaching. Part of her wondered if there would be an appearance tonight of a particular student she'd met once by the lake. Not that she knew them well or had a particular interest in them... she was simply curious, unable to recall if she'd ever seem them at one of these dances before.

The older witch was pulled from her thoughts when she was approached by a first year she hardly recognized. Illowy didn't take it upon herself to be familiar with any first years that weren't in her own house, thus partially her responsibility to look out for. This one was definitely not one of her charges.

Illowy's cold eyes looked the child up an down for a moment; the snake never had been known to exactly have the warmest demeanor. If anything, she was known better to be as cold as stone, with a set of eyes that felt as though they looked through you instead of at you. Despite that, Illowy couldn't deny she did have a soft place for the first years. They were so shiny and new and innocent... in this moment she was acutely aware that it was the Spring Ball of her first year where so much of that innocence was lost.

Hopefully the young students this year would be spared of that.

"I'm quite fine." she assured the girl, at least making the attempt to not let her usual tone making an impression to upset the child. Illowy the nodded towards the crowd, "Just keeping an eye on the events for a moment."

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

It was Farron's first event to attend at Hogwarts, and whether luckily or unluckily it was occurring only a week and a half after her arrival. She wasn't exactly sure what the dress code was for this kind of thing, was she supposed to be formal? Was it casual, but Professors were expected to keep a formal dress? She tried to hit the sweet spot between casual and formal, wearing a light pink dress with glittery strawberries plastered all over it. She tamed her curly hair, styling it into loose curls and pinning some back with pearly barrettes. Paired with large gold hoop earrings and a gold pointed flat she was almost ready to go. She wore light makeup to try and brighten up her paleness from her lack of sunlight exposure, and with a bold red lip it was time to make an appearance. She almost brought her new love, Stinkbug, but decided to leave her home. Stinkbug did receive a kiss on the forehead and a couple of belly scratches before heading out.

Making her way down from her 'apartment' in the castle to the Great Hall, nerves came in waves like the tide. She had started to become acquainted with the student body but she was far from an expert on the goings on of the castle. Of course she came during a bizarre time where other schools filled the halls, making getting to know the Hogwarts students even more complicated. The Great Hall had been transformed into something beautiful. Flowers covering the walls, the Goblet of Fire taking center place. She had heard about the tournament to take place over the next year and she was excited to be witness to it. Her eyes scanned the Great Hall looking for anyone who might be a friendly face and saw her predecessor talking to a student.

She wove her way through the thrumming crowd of students, saying hellos to students that she recognized on her way. Which is to say... she only said hi to a couple of students. "Professor Read, good to see you." She turned to the student, who she couldn't remember. "I believe you're a... Slyther- no! Ravenclaw right? Apologies, I'm still learning. Could you remind me of your name?" She wondered if she should introduce herself, but she was introduced in front of the entire school and was the newest Professor so hopefully she didn't need it. "Are the balls usually this extravagant? Not that I didn't expect it to be beautiful, but for a student run event this is amazing." Her eyes continued to trail over the decorations, the dressed up students, and the table of food which she noted for later.

Did anyone truly believe that a dance would solve the problems of the world? The problems of the schools? Hell, the problems of the day? No, but it was nice to play pretend. To pretend that all was well for yet another day, to gorge oneself on succulent meats and an array sweets until whatever plagues them is forgotten for a short time. The problems never solved, not even delayed, they just fester and grow like some sort of creeping, poisonous vine.

Jürgen Hess was not one to forget. He kept his promises. He was loyal. He was capable and he was competent. Above all else, he held a nasty grudge. The sort where civilities were nothing more than a mask, a façade used only for as so long and for only so far as the situation required. He was certainly not the most cunning by nature, but that did not make him any less dangerous. He was single-minded, focused and he was angry.

There were a few faces among the masses that stood out:

Hugh Lowe, a part giant that stood head and shoulders above the rest, literally. He was formerly in favor of half-breed integration. In fact, he had a half-breed in his own family, it seemed only fitting to be supportive. They were capable, even if mildly subpar wizards. They were no worse than half-bloods and muggleborns, their birth was not their fault and some wizards even defied the odds and proved to be rather exceptional. However, Hugh Lowe proved just how dangerous they could be.

Mathias Pride was a murderer. his ambition to become the next heir apparent would come at the price of his cousin's life. He could not bring himself to believe that Mathias was anything more than a selfish opportunist but he had his doubts by this point. He knew that there was something off between him and Winnie Harper, the girl with the long red hair and the very loud voice. He was well aware of the objective to find a 'nice muggle-like girl' and that was likely the draw, there was no psychic talent in the girl that he knew of and her pedigree was lacking but the mission came to a close when Mathias killed Vladimir. What was the beetle's game this time.

Then there was Erin Ryan, allegedly 'cured'. Everything was perfectly fine now. She was able to go on with her life, nobody questioned her motives, her objectives or even wondered if there was more to the story. She vomited up a mess of slug babies and now she could go on with her life. Were people truly that dense, the girl was an absolute menace, if not knowingly and willfully then by the virtue of her corrupted nature.

Thankfully he was not going to spend the evening alone, there was one promise of normalcy left. "Mary, I can't thank you enough for accepting my invitation."

“People always clap for the wrong reasons.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
