Flash had been prodding her intentions for his own entertainment, but was surprised at her openness. He ought not to have been, it was far more normal for children to be open and share than it was to be a locked box. Increasingly, he was just not used to it any more. Secrets were everywhere, and the consequences for not deciphering them were dire. That wasn't everyone's experience though. He would cross his arms, knitting them tightly against his body for extra warmth. Once the sun was gone, he might have to wander to the fire to keep it.

"Ah." Flash's initial response to her troubles was lackluster, in part due to his weary state, but it would lead to more questions. "So I'm a distraction? A time waster? Not exactly flattering, you know."

He would would be nearly motionless, sat with his unwelcoming body language, and staring as she listed off information about a study. She'd ask him a question, "What do you-" before continuing her diatribe, frustrating Flash further.

"Do you mean... profiles... online?" Flash attempted to bridge the gap. Lucky for her, he was raised in a predominantly muggle background, or he would have been completely lost. "Are you saying strangers were better at picking flattering pictures of someone, than the person themselves? That's not too surprising, you see yourself enough and your perception becomes distorted. It's hard to be unbiased about something you spend all your time around.

He wouldn't dare to hint at his own deeper thoughts on the subject, his own face, how he couldn't stand to look in a mirror, let alone now that part of his face wasn't even his. Still, on the surface the idea of the study interested him. As his eyes wandered in thought, he caught sight of his fellow Seeker across the way, who nodded towards him, as he'd nod back. She would remind him again of that first ball he attended, like it planned to stick with him all night.

He'd be brought back by the girl's next question, which had an easy answer, "My name is Flash Holmwood. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Extressia."

He'd not smile, not offer a hand, as he was too sullen and tired for proper pleasantries. He scarcely knew if he would ever see this girl again, or if she'd be scared off by his frosty reception.

James slowly made the flower crown for Bailey making sure he wouldn't mess up. He weaved an equal amount of small and medium flowers. Using blue-gray, peach, white, and lavender coloured flowers. He was sure this would look perfect on Bailey. He glanced over at her every now and then to make sure she was doing alright. He grabbed a pink and peach faded ribbon and weaved through the flowers tying it in a bow at the back. He was slightly struggling with the bow and had just got it right when he heard her voice.

She had made a flower crown for him. James was surprised but glad she did. Now he wouldn't have to make himself one and Bailey wouldn't have two flower crowns. Maybe she read my mind about making her a flower crown? Oh! Thank you Bailey! It's so beautiful. But not as beautiful as you. Which is a good thing as nothing can compare to your beauty. he said as he bent down for her to place the flower crown upon his head.

He smiled and stood back up straight. "How do I look? I look fantastic don't I? He asked in a silly but charming manner whilst holding his hands out in a ta da motion before giving Bailey a wink. He finished tying the bow on her flower crown finally getting it to look perfect and then placed it upon her head. He let out a gasp and spun her around before getting down on one knee and offering her his hand as if it were a marriage. "My beloved queen. I am at your service! You are the most elegant of them all! He said still being silly. Maybe he shouldn't have had those two glasses of punch before coming here. The sugar in them seemed to be getting to him. Either way, he was sure his goofiness would make the night much more fun and exciting.

As she was weaving the crown she was making for James, Baileys mind wondered. It often did when she was using her hands and did not have to think much.
When she went to hand it to him and said “Um.. James? I made this for you.”
When she saw that he was also holding a crown, her breath caught. Had he made one for himself and had she just made the biggest fool out of herself? Her suspicions were denied when he exclaimed his thanks, and mentioned that it was beautiful, but not as beautiful as her. She blushed as he bent down for her to place it on his head. As she did, she was careful to not smush any of the flowers. Seeing that it fit, Bailey smiled and said “I’m so glad that it fit. I was afraid I had made it the wrong size.”
James stood back up and asked how he looked in a very charming but silly manner. He was so cute and funny, and laughing, Bailey replied “You look amazing as usual.”
While she was saying this he was finishing up the crown he was making. He placed it on her head, and she bent down slightly in a curtsy so he could. Then he spun around, and went down on one knee… Bailey’s face probably showed that was shocked, but she burst out laughing when he said "My beloved queen. I am at your service! You are the most elegant of them all!”
She replied “ Not as elegant and kind as you, my lord!”
They were probably making a scene of them selves, but at this point Bailey did not care. She felt happy and loved.

Bailey mentioned to James that she was glad that the crown fit mentioning that she was worried it would be the wrong size. She also told him that he looked amazing as usual. Then saying that she wasn't as elegant and kind as he was he stood off one knee. He swept her up off her feet being careful of her dress, holding her in a bride like style.

"Enough of thou nonsense. Thou is most elegant and will always be more elegant than I." He said trying to talk as if he were in a play by Shakespeare. He had probably done horrible but did his best. He set Bailey back down on her feet with a smile. He turned her crown crooked and then did the same to his own.

"There, Now we can be silly and elegant at the same time together. James loved spending his time with Bailey. By this point he was sure what he was feeling was love. He felt all kinds of things whenever he saw her. He had gotten a warm feeling in his chest when he had seen her in her dress at the beginning of the night. Had gotten butterflies when she complimented his soup.

He offered her his hand with a bow. "Now, how about that dance I promised you?" His plan was going just perfectly. Give Bailey corsage. Check. Let Bailey try soup. Check.Do flower crowns with Bailey. Check. Dance. Almost. Important Question. Not there yet.

is he scolding me? Bailey wondered, as James said enough of this nonsense. Then he continued, saying Thou is most elegant and will always be more elegant than I."
He clearly was talking, or trying to, like Shakespeare. It was very cute, and Bailey loved that James at least knew of Shakespeare. While he was saying this, James picked umber up like a bride. She shrieked, and then laughed. She felt so… free! She was having so much fun, something she had not done often since getting to Hogwarts. As James set her down again, he told her that they could be silly and elegant at the same time. Adjusting their flower crowns till they were both at an angle, Bailey smiled.
Realizing that she no longer had the nerve that she had in the beginning of the morning, Bailey smiled as James held out his hand for her to take. She had feelings, or one feeling in particular, for James that she had never felt before. It was most certainly love. It was different than the love she had for her family and friends.
As she accepted it, he offered for them to dance. Saying “That sounds wonderful.” she let James lead her to where the dance floor presumably was. Smiling wide, Bailey decided to do what felt right, and follow James.

Extressia wasn't the one to notice social cues very well, thank in part to her somewhat sheltered lifestyle, but something in Flash strikes her as someone who has been through a lot of stress and troubles. She didn't know if she should give him space or not, but she certainly didn't want to be upset, whether he was actually upset or not she couldn't tell, but just in case. "I didn't mean to offend you, my emotion was running awhile a moment ago, so I did this impulsively, forgive me Flash." She squirms in hesitation, she should probably get back to the ceremony to meet back Kai. Flash's cold demeanor was new to Extressia, but at least feeling like he had been through a lot, make her only scared of him a little.
"I know this is probably not my place and I don't understand your situation, but when you think about how the world seemed to want to strip away the precious thing to you, let's say you have a mother you love dearly but who hasn't accepted all of you, magic or non-magic, or something else, I say there always a silver lining, like with great new people to be friends with, with great new things to learn and explore, and if you don't find it, think of a silver lining that can happen in the future and ensure it does happen, that way your happy you put effort and gain something nice for you, even if it lasts a day."
Extressia then stop herself, who was she to try and give advice, she wasn't a full-on people person. Maybe this conversation has gone long enough. "Though maybe that just rubbish advice for you, since well- " She had nothing to add, so slightly nervous, she started toward the direction of the great hall "Um anyways I should go back to the celebration and hope my partner in there. Hope to meet you again Flash!" Extressia waved and walk back to the great hall, embarrass for trying to give advice, but deep down, a small part of her hope it help Flash.

It seemed like every year the ball became more extravagant and elaborate. Whether that was from some repeated people handling the balls and wanting to outdo themselves, or new students wanting to outdo other students, she couldn't be sure. Carefully she made her way into the Courtyard, lilting notes of a quartet filling her ears. As she saw the burning bonfire and the awaiting effigy her heart yearned for home and these kinds of celebrations with her parents and their coven in London. While Midsommar wasn't what she called it, to her it was Litha, it still made her miss the Wheel of the Year celebrations that she missed while at school. Her hand gripped a bit tighter on the flower crown in her hand, luckily not around the flowers, before she took a deep breath and remembered that celebrating with friends was... almost as good as celebrating with family. Another stroke of luck having her brother in attendance. Even though they weren't of blood relation, she felt as strongly connected to him as she did her parents.

There was no running leap in approach, her dress simply wouldn't allow it and she might twist an ankle in the small heels she was wearing. She was not one of the most graceful people in existence. Still, he was ending a conversation and they had both been weary lately. Being a teenager was really hard, especially a teenage witch. No wonder there were so many muggle shows about it. As the unfamiliar girl walked away from Flash she used the opportunity to take her place. There was something about their relationship where over time Flash was able to predict her sneaking up on him, even if sometimes her thunderous footsteps prepping for a giant leap could be heard from a kilometer away.

Gentle hands adorned Flash's head with a flower crown that matched her own. There was a station for it, but Willow took pride in her crowns and they were sort of a meditation for her to make. These ones were much more muted than the brilliant and fantastical colored ones she had made before. Muted greys and whites, with green leaves providing additional color wove itself into his hair. Willow's was already atop her head. She moved to stand in front of him and welcome him into a warm and tight hug, some of her stresses rolling off of her shoulders to wait for her in her dorm. Kind of like the old Campbell's soup commercials, but a can of stressful thoughts about gender.

"You really outdid yourself this time. Any coven would be envious of the celebration you've created." The first half was spoken softly into his chest before she pulled away enough to look up and smile at him. As she looked at his face, really looked at it, and saw his tired eyes and the general lackluster energy she got from him, concern wove its way into her own features. Her hand came up to gently cradle his face, a thumb brushing across his cheekbone. "You look really tired Flash, do you want me to get you anything?" His tendency to put himself before others consistently left him with needing a little bit more care. Which, Willow didn't mind providing especially if it kept her mind off of the fact that she missed home, forgot her birthday, and had largely forgotten who she was.

Open doors permitted the Gryffindor's entrance to the castle courtyard, tan dress shoes gliding resolutely over stone and playing a visual tune, which harmonized with the determined set of his jaw. In fact, his overall appearance seemed to meld perfectly with the melody of the area itself. Pastels played high notes, while deeper shades provided bass to fill out the shallow end of the optic refrain; and, as in any good symphony, every last one blended with a collective voice, finally giving way to the chorus of the setting sun and all it oversaw.
Twilight always had seemed to bear an intoxicating musicality. It bordered on poetic, touching on unguarded emotions in a way so intangible, yet so palpable that most couldn't help but give in - couldn't resist releasing their sorrows, their hopes, and their fears to the impending night. And in a way, that was exactly what this festival was about - coming to terms with inhibitions and committing to a renewed self-view.

As it stood, Marshal's personal image had clearly taken a turn, specifically represented by the presence of an outside hand in the crafting of his outfit for the night. The second-year was no stranger to enduring the burden of a suit. He'd even inflicted the condition upon himself a time or three, but never before had he worn something quite like the ensemble which currently adorned his person. A solid shade of light blue dominated its makeup, coloring the suit, blazer and pants, while a white undershirt served as an accent, topped by a navy-stained necktie.
Locks stiffened by hair gel resisted his fingers as he ran them across the top of his head, assuring himself that everything was in its place for the one who represented his willingness to suffer such great discomfort.

Glancing about for a glimpse of fiery hair, his gaze was promptly stolen by a stunning manifestation of authentic flame, its slithering appendages lapping ominously at the darkening sky. It was as if the departing sun had delegated its duty of illuminating their world to a lesser source, leaving them in the blazing care of an enormous bonfire till the return of dawn.
Following the hypnotic flames toward the heavens, Marshal shuffled to a stop as awe was replaced with something more reverent still, eyes frozen in silent rapture as his mind processed the draconic form before him. A moment passed preceding a mental confirmation that the creature was, in fact, artificial; the only letdown among a series of euphoric discoveries.
A moment more dragged past his dumbfounded expression, wherein he found himself wracked with a single question: where the heck was Leo?

A few more moments even yet ticked away before strength enough to tear his gaze from the magnificent figure found him. Fervent passion tainted his renewed search for Evelynn, a near manic glint shining within hazel irises, as every face in the crowd presented only an obstacle between him and someone dear with whom to share the excitement. Finally, graceful features became apparent in a sea of those that could never compare.
In that fraction of a second, the world disappeared. Strangers brushed by but went unnoticed. Music played but afforded only silence. Even the towering bonfire and imposing effigy which had captured his attention so fully a minute before became trivial. None of it sullied the page, erased by the hand of an artist who knew that her image required no background. Nothing could pose distraction, nor could any contrast hope to contest with her appearance, for what rivals perfection?
Figure swathed in oceanic splendor, her eyes like a tempest that would stir the water's face, she simply stole the world's beauty, carrying it upon herself without even knowing how cruel she was to all else that vied for consideration. Or how cruel she was to him.
How many times had he seen her before tonight? How many times had that first glimpse swept him into a daydream? And how many times would it happen before she showed any sign of reciprocation, or even recognition that he would never accept the relationship she seemed so content to uphold?
The answers to those questions faded into obscurity as he shook himself back to reality, back to a world where dreams were simply... dreams.

Lungs filling with a deep breath, he steeled himself with the same determination that had colored his arrival and approached his date for the evening.
Dreams are there to be reached for, Marshal. His father's voice echoed in the caverns of his mind as one hand extended to gently grab her arm.
"Looks to me like you're missing your matching piece," he voiced lightly, using the other hand to gesture at their coordinated outfits. "Then again, you clearly don't need any help to make the puzzle seem complete. I only hope I don't detract from the picture too much." A quiet grin would play at his features as he allowed his hand to drop to his side, his expression one of unabashed admiration.
He would not notice the presence of another red-head, entirely unaware of the invitation Evelynn had extended to Ivy that she might join them for the night. Instead, the previous glint of excitement resettled upon his countenance.
"Did you see the dragon? You saw the dragon, right? Isn't that coolest thing you've ever seen?" Practically bouncing with enthusiasm now, the rapid change in his mood would be nothing new to Eve, who had suffered through much of the same throughout her time as his academic mentor. "They're probably planning to light it on fire, but that can't be all. Surely there will be magic involved. You never know - it could even come to life." Nothing was out of the question at a Hogwarts event. "All I know is I need to be here when whatever is going to happen happens." Gaze drifting once more toward the dragon and its bonfire, he finally glanced past their domineering presence, noting what appeared to be some sort of something being set up. Inevitable curiosity grasped at the enthusiasm in his chest, pulling it in a new direction. "And I want to see what that is." He nodded toward the indicated area. "How about you?"

Florian stiffened a bit when River asked about the champions. It was a involuntary reaction almost of unease, but also a bit of concern. It was getting closer and closer to the announcement of the champions, and while originally Florian had been certain he would be picked, that sense of closeness was now beginning to draw doubts in the young French boy's mind. Was he truly good enough to be selected as a champion? Was he even old enough? He offered the crook of his elbow 0ut for her to place her arm or hand through, whatever she preferred, and would begin to lead them out of the Great Hall.

As he attempted to respond to her, he stuttered, one of the few times he had ever done so. "I- I... Oui, oui, I am very excited mademoiselle." He paused as they were making their way out into the courtyard, then deciding to ask, "Did you enter the tournament, Miss Fayre?" wondering if she too considered herself worthy. He would continue walking with her again as she answered. Knowing her for the past few months, she certainly seemed capable, even if she was a year younger.

As the pair entered the courtyard, they could see it was decorated splendidly with flowers up and down the arcade, and he, for once, actually ended up admiring the handiwork of the the decor. "Lovely, is it not?" he would absentmindedly comment. He would change the conversation yet again, his mind racing trying to keep off of the prospect of the champion selection, this time asking, "Was there an event that interested you? I think I might sign up for that Flying Torch Tag..." Any reason to get onto a broom was good enough for Florian, and she wondered if River would do the same.

Continuing further he would notice the crafting table, where one could craft themselves a mask, but what really drew him was the licks of smoke he finally noticed behind the courtyard walls. Being a young boy he was rather interested in any hint of fire, but, he wouldn't want to drag his date out there if she didn't want to. He turned to River once again, asking, "Would you like to make a mask? Or perhaps check out the source of the smoke?" he couldn't help but attempt to peer around the courtyard walls. He would do whatever she liked.

River watched as the French boy seemed to stiffen "You nervous?" She smirked, "Oui oui Yes yes I did, I doubt they will choose me, there are way more other witches who are better then me, including some older ones, which are way better then me, of course" she shrugged knowing that even if she dropped her name in (which she had) it would be rather stupid to get her hopes up about it, the goblet would have to be very stupid to choose her!

River looked at the place, it was very nice looking, the students who had put this together had done a very good job, and even as she only looked with a simple gaze, she was finding and marking every single exit, and as she did so her brain made a map, like the ones she loved to gaze at, with every door and wall marked out clearly.

"I think the torch tag sounds cool, but I might only watch, I do not have my broom with me." She sighed contently "Making masks sound cool, but yes, that smoke is very interesting, I would love to see it's source" anything to add to her mind map would be cool.
