"This is gonna take a while isn't it?"

20 minutes, that's how long Jay has been trying to improve his dancing skills but his efforts have been all for nothing, as he only managed to remind himself how bad he needed to practice for the ball, Jay had never tried dancing with a partner before, in fact Jay had never tried dancing before.

Jay was born to a more or less 'normal' family for wizard standards, so he never received toutring in things like etiquette or dancing, still he tried to learn all he could about them, in case he ever needed them, etiquette was simple enough to learn by reading a few books, though it was far from perfect, it was acceptable for Jay, as for dancing...well let's just say it doesn't come easy for him.

While his body is well coordinated, whenever he trys implementing what he know in actual dancing, it ends up worse than a 9 year old trying to teach dancing to a moneky (in his opinion anyway).

So, he decided to go to the rehearsal room to try and get some practice in for the upcoming ball, right the ball.

Jay isn't exactly what you would call a social person he never made any friends in his old muggle school, so naturally he doesn't know how to approach people, so he couldn't ask anyone to help him with his dancing problem or even get a date for the ball, so why would he even go to the ball? Simple because he wants to make new friends, he doesn't like being seen as some outcast so he will try to meet new people in the ball, well at least that was the plan, but now he doesn't even now if he should go anymore...

"Man, this feels worse than being bullied in my old school, at least there I could fight back agianst those who bother me" he said as he recalled some of his old memories...


(P.S I forgot to say he is practicing with a mannequin)

Harmonia had finished her classes for the day and already completed all the homework. With so much time on her hands she decided to go where she went a lot, the rehearsal room. As she made her way she still peered at the portraits and wondered if she should asked them any interesting stories.

Once she made it to the rehearsal room she opened the door carefully, ever since she has walked in, on several occasions, walked in on someone already in there. She looked inside and infact someone was already in there.

At this point her usual shy demeanor was present, probably cause this has happened enough times. "I am terribly sorry to disturb you." she replied upon being noticed. She looked him over a bit and came to a conclusion.

"I assume you are practicing how to dance?" she asked but already figured he is practicing dance. He didn't have an instrument on him or sitting at the piano and the Blossom Ball is coming up. Though its possible he was singing or acting and the rehearsal room has a muffled spell.

"I apologize for my rudeness, My name is Harmonia Melodius, its a pleasure to meet you"

Jay was startled by the girl that came in while he was practicing, he felt embarrassed by it but quickly answerd her nontheless.

"Don't worry about it"

He honestly should have probably tried to do something to signal that the room was occupied, but he doesnt know how to play the piano and even if he did there might have been some sort of muffling spell so the noise doesn't come it.

The girl then asked if he is practicing how to dance, which should have been obvious but he still answered nontheless.

"Um, yes I am practicing for the ball"

He then realised that the girl probably came here because she wants to practice, and since he is already here she probably thought of coming back later, so Jay planned to ask her if she wants to practice with him when the girl introduced herself as Harmonia Melodius.

"Jay. Jay Rosewood, nice to meet you too Harmonia"

He then took a deep breath and proceeded to ask her if she wants to practice with him.

"Well...since we are both here to practice would you like to practice with me?"

He asked though it sounded more uncertain than he originally intended, he then realised that he has been carrying the mannequin this entire conversation, which caused his face to quickly turn red, so he quickly put it back on the ground, hoping Harmonia doesn't notice his face right now.

Harmonia truthfully didn't know rather she was going to play an instrument or teach dance lessons on her way here. Now that someone was already in here and in need of help, how could she refuse him. "That sounds like a lovely idea... infact I usually host free basic waltz lessons in here from time to time."

She placed her things near the front and pulled out, what appear to be steel toed boots and not dancing shoes. "First, how much do you know and have you had any prior lessons?" she asked unfazed if he looked at her weird for putting on boots to dance.

"Its a fairly simple dance and only gets complicated when you try to get ahead of yourself." once she had her boots on she stood back up and walked to the old record player and moved the needle to the resting position.

"But first, I must say I will not tolerate self depreciation.
If you struggle to learn its most likely you're going about it the wrong way for you... after all each one of us are unique." she stated and stopped to let him respond, its hard to start if she doesn't know how much he knows.

Jay was glad that she agreed to help him with his dance, he never received training from someone with experience so this should definitely make a difference.

He didn't expect her to be giving free dance lessons, so he started to wonder how he never heard about it, then he remembered that he isn't exactly a social person so he couldn't have heard about.

She then proceeded to pull out some steel like boots to practice with, I may not know much about dancing but I don't think that's the one you are supposed to use, he didn't voice his thoughts though, he wasn't about to argue with someone with experience in dancing when he has none.

"No, I never took dance lessons before, so I don't I don't know much."

He perked up when she said that the dance is fairly simple, well Jay was sure he was doing something wrong from the start, so he really owes her for helping him, even though she already has her lessons.

She then started talking about not toleratin self depreciation and that I am probably struggling due to doing something wrong. Her behaviour put a smile on Jay's face, it reminded him of his mom.

"You remind me of my mom, strict and diligent, alright, no self depreciation, I am ready to get started"

Jay felt more relaxed with her reassurance, so he should be able to succeed with her help now.

Harmonia wouldn't say she was strict, at least teaching wise, but more her beliefs. "Unlike many dances where it is about memorizing steps, waltz requires cooperation and its important to learn both leading and following." she instructed, setting the record player up to play.

"One think to remember while leading is that you are showing off your partner to everyone, hence if you pay close attention to full ball. A stationary observer could watch the dancers rotated around and sooner or later loop back around to them" A Waltz is not just a dance but an opportunity to show off, dancing and partner.

Once she was done setting up the record player she returned to Jay and stood ready to start. "First place your right hand on my waist and your left should hold my left hand loosely. Keep your wrist straight the whole time. I shall lead for now, when I step forward you step back, when I step to the left you will step to the right, once we go throught the steps we will trace out a square shape, which is why its usually called the box waltz. The rotation to start spiralling around the dance floor will come later." she finished, waiting for Jay.

Jay isn't exactly bad at dealing with people, however touching a girl's hand and holding her waist is something that never even crossed his mind, him? With a girl? Yeah, no not happening, the reason he wanted to learn to dance in the first place was so he wouldn't show up at a ball without even knowing how to dance.

Even though that was what is occuping Jay's mind right now, he still paid attention to Harmonia's explaination, how dancing is an opponent to show off your partner and how it's about leading and following.

He then walked up to her so he can follow her instructions, he took a deep breath and said "Okay" as he proceeded to place his right hand on Harmonia's waist while holding her left hand with his free one as loosely as possible without letting go.

He felt his face heat up a little from embarrassment though.

After he followed her instruction, she proceeded to tell him the steps of the dance which were...were surprisingly simple, Jay thought he was supposed to follow a fixed a pattern which is why he was struggling with the dance, but now that he had help it become much more simple, she also mentioned that the rotation comes latter which confused Jay "Isn't rotating part of the dance? Or is it a separate move?" he asked her then waited for her answer.
