Fine Unfeathered Friends?

Hello again!
I admit to being very pleasantly surprised to have received your owl. As it was a most unorthodox approach to making a new friend, I was uncertain how it would be received. I suppose the "mystery" of it all was likely the deciding factor in moving you to respond, and that is okay by me. As you did not state that you wished to know who it is sitting here with quill in hand and now writing you, I will take it that means you wish to keep the mystery in tact. Fair enough.
I will tell you a bit about my likes and interests in each owl. I will also give a little clue as to my identity. At some point down the line you should be able to figure it out without my having to do a grand reveal. Hopefully by that time, if we like each other well enough through our owls, interacting in person will not be so awkward. That is my hope anyway.
I will start with books since each time I see you, you are reading. I love to read as well. I have a particular fondness for anything Shakespeare and 18th-19th century British and American classics. Some favorite authors, and this is just the tip of the quill, so to speak, include Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Henry David Thoreau, Thomas Hardy, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Joseph Conrad, and Jules Verne. I guess that list probably gives away the first clue about my identity. I am Muggle-born.
In spite of my penchant for 18th -19th century authors, I have to say that my all time favorite book is To Kill A Mockingbird. Go figure. I also like a lot of Stephen King's works, but not all of it. His Dark Tower series is amazing, as is The Stand.
I would be very interested in learning what types of books you like to read. I do read many contemporary authors so I am more than capable of carrying on a conversation on a number of different fronts if the classics do not spark your interest.
When (if?) you write back, I would also be interested in knowing which class(es) you most like here at Hogwarts and why? My two favorite classes are Transfiguration and DADA. I could not even begin to pick out only one thing I like about Transfiguration. Everything about that class fascinates me as there is just nothing like it in the Muggle world. Mind blowing. I also admit that Professor Wade's first name, Atticus, plays right into my love of To Kill A Mockingbird.Ha!
As for DADA, any curriculum that feels it is necessary to mandate a magical self defense course automatically has my full attention. Plus, you have to admit it is kind of cool to have the power to make someone sail backwards if they are acting too aggressively. I am not saying I am proud of that reaction, but there it is. I am only human. Well, bonus clue for you right there, I guess. I am human.

Hello,
I do have quite a love for reading. I also do read Stephen King as well as Mark Twain, Shakespeare, and Hemingway. I do think I have noticed you. Still trying to figure out your name though. It's on the tip of my tongue. I just know it.
My favorite classes would probably be Charms and Herbology. Learning new spells has always been easy for me. Especially since my mother drilled me into the books before coming here.
It is quite alright. I tend to blabber on and on as well.

Hello, James.
Very curious what it was I said in my last owl that already has you believing you have noticed me. Even more interesting that my name might be on the tip of your tongue. Perhaps you have only ever heard my nickname which might be where the recall difficulty lies for you. That is my clue for you in this owl.
Other than reading, what interests or hobbies do you have? I played the piano for many years when I was younger and gave it up for a little while. I have recently discovered a renewed interest in playing, so that is a nice change of pace. I am a better than fair to good piano player. I am a far better dancer and gymnast, however. I have some ballet training, and while I appreciate the discipline of the training, my preferences are for Ballroom dancing and free-form. Luckily Hogwarts makes practicing both piano and dance a happy enough reality.
Another question for you. What are some of your dislikes? A frivolous dislike of mine is liver. Cannot abide the stuff. A deeper dive dislike is a feeling of uncertainty I have about the idea of magic. You would think after 7 months of exposure to it on a daily basis I might be more excited by it, but I tend to be more distrustful of it right now more than anything. Hard to adjust to it since growing up without it for so long I suppose.

Hello,
Apologies for the long wait! I was busy caught up in homework.
I also write, draw, play guitar and sing. I enjoy writing the most. Brings me a sense of inner peace or calmness. Also very creative and I get to use my imagination much. That is wonderful that your a dancer and gymnast. What free-form dancing do you enjoy doing most?
As for my dislikes I agree with you on liver. I just simply can't get over the texture of it. Another food I dislike is cow tongue. I do not understand how people can eat such a thing. Other than that there is not much else I dislike besides the obnoxiousness of some people. But everyone is different.

Apologies for the shameful delay in replying. Life got a little hectic with the Midspring Celebration/Blossom Ball, preparations for spring break, and the upcoming Broom races. Here is your next and maybe final clue as you say you believe you know my name. You and I share badger blood it would seem.
Speaking of badgers and broom races, are you planning on showing up to support House Hufflepuff in its death defying, but ultimately victorious, race against House Slytherin? If so, and you think you may have me figured out, find me in the crowd and we can cheer them on together. I will be sitting there somewhere amongst the onlookers with my hand-crafted what-nots designed to spur support for our team and possibly strike fear into those slithering, green reptiles.
What do you say? Would be a fun place to officially get to know one another. With the excitement of the race to backfill any awkward or embarrassing silences, we might feel some pressure is naturally dissipated. Bring your beautiful girl with you, too! The more the merrier. I saw you two at the Ball, by the way. You made quite a handsome couple all dressed up in matching shades of peach! Would love to meet her, too!

P.S. I am surprised to report this, but it is as true as the day is long. Cow tongue is delicious. Truly! I used to think there was no way I would ever deign to eat something that could taste me back, but a friend tricked me once with it in a deli sandwich. Very tender and yummy. Bertie Bott should consider it if they ever change up their flavors.
P.P.S. Because I want to keep any friends I may make, I promise you I will never trick you into eating cow tongue. I dare you to find a better offer anywhere, your girlfriend being the obvious exception, of course!
