Sparking Friendship
Olive was extremely happy that morning for no apparent reason. Sometimes she just woke up with energy that was not right for the morning. It was super early, just enough so that most students would not be awake quite yet, and late enough where she could venture outside the dorms without breaking any rules.Interacting: -- ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: Miles Thatcher (@Simon Kincaid)
Taking a medium sized sketchpad from her trunk, she strolled outside the castle and onto the grounds of Ilvermorny. A light fog was clouding the grounds, causing Olive to barely be able to see her feet. It was the perfect morning in her opinion. She sat on a grassy hill not too far from the castle and flipped open her sketchpad.
Looking around slowly, her eyes landed on a marsh type area a few yards away. Perfect. Her pencil began flying across the page, lightly tracing what she saw. Making sure to capture every detail, Olive drew the tall grasses and even a light outline of the fog still circling around her. As she drew, the sun started rising slowly in the sky, indicating the time of the morning. More students would be awake by now, but she still had the grounds mostly to herself.
The peace and quiet of the morning was lovely, as was the smell of rain coating the outdoors. It had rained a lot the night before, showing spring was on its way to Ilvermorny. Olive set her sketchpad on the grass beside her and pulled her knees up to her chest, allowing herself to simply take in the beauty of the morning.

Miles Thatcher talking with Olive Adair, iNPC of @Lizzy Solace
"Appears you've finished just before the fog lifted," a voice would be able to be heard behind her. Miles Thatcher would come from behind her, placing his hand on the trunk of a tree to examine it with more than his visual sense before coming to join her where she sat without asking first for permission. After all, this was his school grounds as well and he didn't feel such a need to.
Plus, while they hadn't really spoken much out of the Quidditch Pitch for practice, he knew she was a fellow Thunderbird and knew her name. "I didn't know you liked to draw," he further the conversation a little. There wasn't too much he could say on it to be honest, as he didn't see her sketch. He just saw as she'd look down to her notebook and back up to the horizon line and back down again. He too had a sketchbook full of drawings, but one needed such skills if they were someday going to be a botanist, a researcher, or whatever it was he planned to. He wasn't exactly sure just yet.
Miles pulled his bag closer and flipped open one of the pockets, pulling out a bag full of cookies and held it out to her. "They're amazing. My gram makes them. She's not just a master at potions. Have some. She sends an endless supply."
He kept the bag held out to her if she'd want to take a few, encouraging to do so as he looked out. "Crazy to think we'll be packing up for Scotland again soon. Are you planning to attend?" He knew Olive was a first year and wouldn't have gone the last time. He didn't go the first time it was available to him, but did that past fall to attend their Fall Ball.

Turning her head so she could see who was behind her, Olive relaxed when she saw a familiar face. They didn't know each other that well, but she knew Miles from Quidditch and that he was a Thunderbird like her. "Yep! I'm glad it waited until I finished drawing it. How rude would it have been to move on me," she said playfully. The fog had indeed lifted while she had been sitting there.Interacting: Miles Thatcher (@Simon Kincaid) ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
Speaking of sitting, Miles sat down next to her on the grass. "I guess I'm a girl of hidden talents. I don't really go around saying I draw, but it is one of my favorite things to do," Olive admitted. Touching her sketchpad lightly, she pulled it onto her lap and flipped it to the page she had just drawn. "I don't mind if you look at it." If he took it, he would see the marsh she had just drawn, as well as a sketch of a dreamcatcher in the top left corner of that page.
Looking at the bag of cookies Miles was offering, she took them with a small smile. They were really good, he wasn't just bragging Olive decided as she took a bite. "Thank you. These are amazing!" she exclaimed honestly.
He mentioned Scotland and she remembered the Blossom Ball was being held at Hogwarts and all students were welcome to attend. "Dang, I almost forgot about that! Good thing I had you to remind me or I'd be packing on the last day possible! I'm planning on attending, yes. Considering how you worded that I'm guessing you're also going?" It would be nice to have at least one person she knew at the unfamiliar school.

Miles Thatcher, my iNPC, talking with Olive Adair, @Lizzy Solace's iNPC
When she opened her notebook to the page she had been working on and showed him, Miles smiled. Not only was her sketch really nicely done - and hard to do with all the fog - but she was confident enough to share it with him. Some people were so closed off and it was difficult to get to know them, but here Olive was, only only open to communication but sharing herself to him as well.
Sometimes Miles could get caught up in what he was doing. If he was at quidditch practice than his focus was on quidditch, not his teammates. It wasn't that he wasn't a team player, he was just very calculated and dedicated and therefore things like friendships didn't always immediately happen.
"Yeah, I'll be going. I went for their Fall Ball last time. Went to the dance with this Hogwart's girl that really didn't seem to care for me much," Miles laughed a little before clearing his throat. It was slightly embarrassing but hey, sometimes you hit a home run and sometimes you struck out. "We had written together before my arrival and I thought it might be a good fit but nope. Still though it's cool experiencing a different school and meeting others from other schools."
"It's cool that you're coming. You'll like it. I don't think there was anyone that didn't like it before. You'll have new places to draw," he said and tapped her notebook with his index finger. "Which, I have yet to say, but you did a fantastic job. You've got a talent there, Olive."

She watched Miles intently as he studied her drawing. He was smiling softly and looked extremely focused on the sketch, so that had to be a good thing. She may have been open to allowing him to see it, but she was still a bit self-conscious when it came to her drawings. They were what she took the most pride in, so it was understandably the thing she was most edgy about.Interacting: Miles Thatcher (@Simon Kincaid) ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
Olive felt a rush of sympathy towards Miles as he explained when he went to the Fall Ball the girl he went with was indifferent towards him. "Oh, I'm sorry that she didn't care for you. Writing someone is different than being face to face with them I suppose. She must be crazy not to care for you though. You seem really sweet and cool."
She blushed and looked down at her still open sketchpad. That last statement had seemed a little too much like admitting to liking him than casual banter. Olive wasn't even sure if she felt that way toward him. Of course he seemed like a good friend to have, but still.
"Yeah, I'll probably be sitting outside doodling for the duration of the ball. I've never danced before, so I'd probably mess it up somehow. I don't think I can learn to dance within the time we have left before departure." He complimented her work, to which she blushed harder. "Thanks Miles. That really means a lot."
I sped things up a bit since the Blossom Ball is coming up and they still have to decide they are going together. Sorry for my late reply.

Miles asking iNPC of @Lizzy Solace to the dance
Miles didn't hold ill feelings towards the Hogwarts girl, but he did know he didn't wish to attend another dance with her. No, he would like to go but it would be with someone else this time. He smiled when Olive said he seemed sweet and cool. It wasn't as if the two knew each other well, but they at least knew OF each other in passing. After all, the Thunderbird House Quidditch Team was quite dedicated to workouts and trainings.
She glanced away and drew her attention back to her notebook. Miles followed suit and placed his blue eyes upon it as well. "Well, you know that's the great thing about doodling, my dear Olive, is that it's quite easily done just about anywhere but outside a school dance probably shouldn't be one of them," he said, his eyes really traveling across the page. "Because a dance is for dancing...even if one has never done so before. How about a date that will help to help you learn? One that will not care whether you're decent or a disaster? One that wishes the two might attend and have the best night possible?"
He brought his hand out to hers which now covered some of her view of her sketchpad. He did it intentionally for attention and waited until she looked back up to him. "Would you accompany me to the ball, Ms. Adair?"

Still blushing like mad, she looked down with a newfound fascination at her sketch. Neither of them said anything for a bit, so she glanced up at the landscape of Ilvermorny's grounds. They were so beautiful and she was glad that she had gotten the chance to draw them with the fog of the morning. The drawing would hold not only the image, but also the memories she made while at the school.Interacting: Miles Thatcher (@Simon Kincaid) ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
Olive glanced up, surprised as Miles said doodling was not meant for school dances even though it could be done just about anywhere. As he kept talking, she began to look at him closer than she had been. It almost sounded as if he were going to ask her to the dance, but that was impossible wasn't it? "What exactly are you saying? Who might this date be that you have in mind? The one that wouldn't care how awful my dancing skills might be. The one who just wants to have the best night possible. Because that sounds like the perfect way to spend my night."
His hand reached out and she glanced up to look him in the eyes. "Would you accompany me to the ball with me, Ms. Adair?" he asked. A smile danced across her face and brightened up her expression. Going to the ball with Miles seemed like it was bound to be an amazing night for the both of them and would make her stay at the foreign school much more enjoyable with the knowledge they would be going to the ball together.
Her heart felt like it was jumping around in her chest as she looked at him, unbelieving that he had actually asked her to the ball. Still smiling brightly she replied, "Miles Thatcher, I would love to go to the Blossom Ball with you."

Stumbling over words with Olive Adair, @Sienna Lenoir
"Great. Wonderful. Good to hear," he said and smiled too, relieved that she had said yes. That was one of the things that he had focused so much on last time was finding a date to the dance that he had found the wrong date to the dance. At least now it was with someone he knew, someone he had spoken to before, someone he found attractive. Miles glanced out, hoping that he wasn't getting a bit red in the face.
"Alright then, it's a - it's a date," he said and then paused again. Why the hell did he just have to word it that way? What if Olive just wanted it to be going as friends? He could feel his heart begin to race a little but he wouldn't let that stop him. No, this was a risk and Miles Thatcher liked to take risks. He would keep his words as such.
When he looked back to her, he presented her with a smile. Hopefully she was cool with it the way it was because he figured if she had herself a boyfriend, she most likely would have already known who she'd be going with. But no, she had accepted his request.
"I'll surely see you at Hogwarts then," he smiled, feeling he should probably go before he make any more of a fool out of himself. Besides, he had to figure out what to pack and now, among his things, would have to be some kind of formal attire so he looked nice for this upcoming dance. "I'm going to go start figuring what to take with me. It'll be on us sooner than you'd think. See you see, Livie." And with that, Miles headed out.
Miles has left the thread.
