The Sorting ceremony Finished

Maggie checked her watch as Rae, Makena and her walked in with the other students. it was 4:30. The hall was filled with the buzz of excitment for the new school year. The sorting hat sung its song, and the list began. A few people were sorted, and all the sudden, it was Maggies turn. She made her legs move, even though they didn't want to. She stumbled to the hat, and put it on. "Hmmm... Where to put you? I see you like books, and your a bit on the smart side." a voice said in her ear. Maggie din't want to brag, so she thought to the hat "I guess so" "You are also ambitious, and have a strong thirst to prove yourself to your new friends, and the rest of the school." Maggie relized that she wanted exactly that. "You have no traits for gryffindor, none at all. You are shy, and desperate for friends." The truth in those words hurt Maggie just a bit. "But most of all, you are loyal to your family, and would do anything for your friends, even if you did just meet them today... better be HUFFLEPUFF" the hat yelled the last word to the rest of the hall, and Maggie took the hat off and scrambled over to the house with the yellow table cloth

Rae was amazed by the castle from there very first moment, and that awe didn't let up, especially as she entered the Great Hall. Her mouth was agape the entire time.

"This is..." Amazing? Incredible? Extraordinary? There wasn't a word to describe the majesty of this place.

As they entered, they were greeted by silence, and then a slight murmuring. All the upperclassmen stared at them and watched them as they passed. It made Rae feel very shy. And her feeling of anxiety only worsened as they got closer to the sorting hat.

She watched as Maggie was sorted into Hufflepuff and Makena was sorted into Gryffindor. Not long after, it was her turn.

"Rae Hart?" her name was called. She took a breath and walked up, the hat placed on her head.

"What's this? Last name of Hart..." the sorting hat chuckled, "No doubt you were adopted, probably by muggles."

Rae gasped a little, but remained silent.

"Yes, yes, in a different world, you would almost definitely be in Slytherin, like your parents before you, but I sense no pride or honor for you and very little sense of ambition. No, no, you are kind, loyal to a fault, and just. Indeed, there is no other place for you, so it'll be...HUFFLEPUFF!"

Trembling, Rae arose, think about what the sorting hat said about her parents. They were both wizards? She should have asked for more, but she couldn't quite get over the fact that she was talking to a magical hat.

She took her place next to Maggie and then gave a look over to Makena, sitting at the Gryffindor table.

Makena watched at Rae got sorted into Hufflepuff she turned around the tables were quite close to each other and she smiled at Maggie and Rae she hoped they would all be in the same house but its okay that they weren't she was hopeful that they would stay friends. Makena turned back around and started facing the Professors again. 'All students report to your common rooms follow your prefect' Everyone stood up almost at the same time before they all left Makena quickly went over to the Hufflepuff table "Hi guys after we have gone to our dorms do you want to meet in the library ?" Makena waited for them to reply and then she started running back over to her table, Makena waved as the Gryffindor's started leaving. Makena started walking with her fellow Gryffindors it was amazing the paintings were moving and talking to the students there were also ghosts flying around then the students stopped and the prefect tarted talking 'Now don't be alarmed by the stairs' Makena didn't understand what the prefect meant she was at the back but when she saw all of the staircases move around she realised. Wow this school is amazing slightly scary but amazing. The students continued walking before they came to a painting of a lady the prefect said something and the painting opened to the Gryffindor common room it was beautiful red and gold colours everywhere Makena was in awe but then she remembered she was meeting Rae and Maggie, Makena went up to her dorm and changed into her Gryffindor robes before leaving her dorm and the common room. Se started to make her way over to the library.

"Hi guys after we have gone to our dorms do you want to meet in the library ?"

Rae smiled and nodded at Makena. "Sure! We'll meet you there!" Rae replied cheerfully. She was beginning to get a bit more comfortable with the school. Having spoken a bit with her fellow Hufflepuffs, she was growing more and more certain that she belonged in Hufflepuff, but was also ready to be friends with people from other houses, especially Makena.

As they headed back to the Hufflepuff common room, Rae grabbed Maggie by the hand and pulled her along with her. "We're in the same house, Maggie! This is so exciting!" She said with a cheerfulness that was not new to her, but not altogether common. "And Makena is already our friend, do you think we'll all have classes together?" She was wondering what classes would be like. The thoughts swimming though her head were numerous and it was a lot to take in. The moving pictures, the floating candles, the shifting staircases! It was all astounding and it was all greater than she could have expected.

Still, there was that thought that kept surfacing in the sea of amazement, questions, and excitement. What did the sorting hat mean about her parents? Who were they? They were both Slytherins? What did that mean? What kind of people were they?
