Rhythm of My Life
Ami beamed proudly as Syrah managed to produce a light from her wand, and clapped excitedly as it floated up towards the ceiling. Really, Ami was just a child at heart- either hyper or dead, and always happy for other people's successes, forgiving for their failures. It was just how she was raised- selfless, never thinking of her own happiness, but only of others. It was probably her best and worst quality, to be truthful. There were a lot of instances in which it could screw her up, but it allowed her to be open-minded and compromising, both of which were invaluable skills in the society she lived in.
Syrah's magic potential must be insane- the ease in which she wielded her wand, the clarity of the incantation... Ami sighed, half in jealousy, half in awe. If only she could have that much skill, like Syrah, like her mom... but alas, no, her strengths apparently lay elsewhere- although, exactly where, Ami had yet to find out. "Syrah, that was beautiful," she breathed in amazement. "Absolutely, smack-dab phenomenal. Bravo." She couldn't have done any better, herself.
"Syrah Steele," Ami repeated softly with a small smile after Syrah introduced herself. "The Slytherin Extraordinaire. A pleasure to meet you, Miss Steele. Ami, humble Hufflepuff, at your service." She inclined her head slightly in a head-bop motion, and pushed her hair back from her shoulders so it wouldn't fall in her face anymore. "Best be heading off, now," she said a bit reluctantly, turning off the music and shoving the speaker and phone into her pockets. "It's late, Miss Steele- wouldn't want to get caught out by prefects or professors now, would we?" Ami asked rhetorically, with a twinkle in her eye, as she moved towards the looming double doors, ready to hit the hay, so to speak. She'd have a little bit of trouble dragging herself out of bed in the morning, but nothing she wasn't used to.
"I'll see you around, then, Miss Steele," Ami said quietly, with a note of finality in her voice- it was clear that she was going to leave, and this time, Syrah wouldn't be able to distract her with a request to teach her a spell. "I look forward to our next encounter." She leaned against one of the doors with her shoulder, and slipped outside of the ballroom, heading towards the nearest entranceway to the secret passages that Kyden had shown her. Taking care to make sure she wasn't being followed, she tapped the stone to get into the passage, and disappeared into the night, heading back to her common room.

Ami exits the Ballroom, and thus the thread.

She grinned. Syrah felt pretty good about herself doing this spell, but it felt really great to have this girl, despite the fact that she didn't know this girl at all, say she was doing great. It was one thing to have a teacher praise your preformance, they almost had to. But another student, that was another level of praise.
Ami. That was an interesting name. She already knew the Hufflepuff thing. It was always easy and obvious figuring out who around you was in what house thanks to the color coding and the robes. Before she had a solid chance to respond, as she was still excited about her new spell, Ami announced she was leaving.
Syrah frowned, she actually found herself a bit disappointed that she girl was leaving. Syrah gratefully appreciated her teaching even though she clearly could have kept the spell for herself. It was such a beautiful spell, too. Syrah loved lights.
"Well, hey! she called after Ami. "Thanks for everything! I hope to see you around soon. I'll be sure to have this mastered by then!" Syrah laughed, watching the girl leave. She stayed for a bit, though, practicing a bit more ebedore she headed back to her Callidora Black dorm.
