Lunchtime.
It was one of his favorite times of the day.
This morning had been rather crazy, he'd gotten up early for once due to some annoying sounds coming from outside his room. And then had gone off with Taizu to the library, where he'd met Colin and Bailey and all three of them had decided to go on a picnic with the Great Lake as a backdrop. And now he was alone again and had decided to go back to the Great Hall to sneak some more food into his stomach. Shush, he wasn't a glutton. He wasn't.
Kim opened the heavy doors and walked into the Great Hall, passing by the long tables.
As he glanced around, he noted that none of his fellow Gryffindors were at the dining table.
But that wasn't surprising considering the time. Most of them tended to eat at 12 noon. He was a little over an hour late but thankfully they were still serving some food at the tables.
Kim took a seat and looked over the vast spread of goodies before him.
He unconsciously licked his lips and reached out to take some shepherd's pie and sticky toffee pudding. Of course, normally he would go for his usual custard tart but this time he wanted to try something different. A butter beer filled into his mug in front of him, the magic being able to sense what he wanted subconsciously inside. That was the best part of the place, Kim didn't even have to decide or ask for something, it would just appear. He started to eat, filling his mouth with delicious food and closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying it.
This was the life.
He didn't have any worries at this particular moment in time.
It was the weekend and there were no classes. He intended on trying to complete all his homework later on that evening but if he ran out of time, he'd finish up Sunday morning. There was no rush to complete fast, as long as he got it done in time that was what mattered. But if given a choice, Kim preferred to finish homework ahead of time so he didn't have to freak out to get it done at the last minute. Stress was not fun. And Transfiguration was, well.
Hard to explain.
After all, Kim was good at actual Transfiguration. He just wasn't good at explaining it.
In other words, he liked the class but hated the homework, as you needed to describe things with words. And he just didn't get how to do that with this particular subject.
Even though he could cast the spells just fine.

A regular Saturday lunch!
Description: Alec is wearing a red sweater, and ripped jeans, his hair is all over the place, and he has dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. The Gryffindor is carrying his messenger bag with him, the front flap is covered in pins. His nails are painted black.
“You better hope that's virgin butterbeer.” Alec would mutter offhandedly, as he took a seat across from the other. Though little invested in the life of a random kid, he had to say something didn't he? He was saying it for the sake of saying it. What? Alec needed a place to sit. He may as well pretend he's friendly so he doesn't get awkward stares. Alec was curious as to how the butterbeer lined up with school rules, it had to be a zero tolerance policy on the no drinking rule. Even if butterbeer only had a little, Alec remember when a prefect had scolded during that end of year celebration. She'd made a huge deal about it, but... Let it go? Maybe she was just controlling.
Alec would fill his plate carelessly, as he debated this topic, he was pleasantly surprised to have something like this on his mind. It hadn't been long into school and he was beginning to feel existential dread kicking it. At least he was adjusting to routine again by now, knowing the meals, and getting better at not ending up late for things, it was easy enough to follow.
Every open space on his plate would be filled with food. After a morning study session trying to keep himself to sit still in one place at the library, Alec went outside and ran around, needing to run his excess energy, he was hungry. It seemed only right to fill his plate full and eat. Not to mention he'd missed breakfast. He'd had trouble sleeping last night, he was thankful he slept in so it could amount to four hours of sleep and give him enough brain power to function. The food was better during lunch anyway, just an extra excuse to fill up.
Alec would eat quickly, bite after bite going into his mouth, and he did this out of the corners of his eyes he would be watching the other, and slowly yet surely as seconds ticked down Alec's eyebrows would begin to furrow. A frown tugged at Alec's lipsand finally he would pause, setting his for down. “Can you not?” Alec asked, as if it was obvious was he was asking the stranger to do. He would huff, then realize he should add more to that statement. “It's just a meal... Food... Look less excited, stop being so weird.” How was Alec supposed to eat if in front of him was a kid who looked like he would be fulfilled and happy as a person if he just sat there and ate. It was an odd complaint but Alec was in a mood, he didn't have time for this, any of this, he had better things to do. Alec would stare down at plate grabbing his fork only to end up picking at his food, and shaking his head, “dork.”
Alec didn't seem to be interested in saying much of anything after that. He would pick at his food for the next few minutes, his eyes making way to glance at Kim every so often. The Gryffindor didn't know what to blame his newfound lack of hunger on and would instead accept fate of the food going to waste, Alec pushed away his plate. He wasn't hungry, but he was going to make time for this. A stranger, the type of kid who would usually stand out, of course he was going to catch Alec's interest.
“You're a first year, aren't you?” Alec didn't have to ask to know, he had the 'first-year glow' and it was much more prevalent compared to others Alec had met before. Well, that and the fact that Alec had never seen this kid before, and Alec would have most definitely noticed if the other had been here last year. Not that Alec would have actually made an effort to interact if he had been. No disillusionment yet, the castle did well for making the place seem so enchanted, he smirked, this was going to be fun.

──────KIM─SATO──────────────────────────────────────────
──────────────────────────────────── HOGWARTS ──────────
| ── | An unfamiliar voice was heard and Kim glanced over to his side. A boy with eyes the same color as his, pale-tanned skin (what an interesting combination!) and medium chestnut brown hair met his gaze. Pretty. That was his first thought, despite the curly unruly mess the other Gryffindor's hair currently was. He had dark circles under his eyes too, as if from lack of sleep. Possibly from too much studying?
"Mm. I don't think they'd be serving alcoholic butter beer at Hogwarts." Kim responded and reached out to sip some of the drink again. Yes, it didn't appear to have any kind of alcoholic taste. All it tasted like was cream soda and butterscotch. He let his eyes linger on the newcomer. He'd only been here a couple of days and didn't know everyone yet. But he definitely wasn't one of the 1st years. He would have remembered someone like him. Which meant, he was either a second or third year, going from his appearance. Kim didn't think he was a higher year than those because he probably would have seen him around more if that was the case. But then again, he could be wrong on all counts. The only thing he was certain of was that he wasn't a first year. As the older Gryffindor started to fill his plate up, Kim continued to eat the food on his own plate. Nothing more was said and Kim didn't think much of the other person there. Sometimes people just wanted to eat in silence. And then suddenly, the boy said something to him again. It took Kim a few seconds to realize what he'd said, as he hadn't been paying attention. But even afterward he was somewhat confused as to what the other had meant. Apparently, the boy also realized he hadn't been very specific with his words and tried to further explain. Kim blinked, for a few moments. Eh? This $*@&#!!!! Luckily, his thoughts had not been spoken out loud at the time. Or he'd have gotten into trouble. The boy's words didn't imply he wanted a response and Kim had no intention of giving him one. Best just ignore these types of things. Perhaps it had been a bad morning for the other Gryffindor and that was why he was like this right now. Kim continued to delve into his shepherd's pie, well aware of how the other boy's eyes seemed to remain on him. But for now, he was determined to ignore him for now. Unless he had something nice to say, that is. Or he wasn't trying to mess with him. It was only after Kim had finished his meal and was starting on his dessert that the other decided to speak again. But this time it wasn't a thinly veiled rude comment or question, it was an actual question. Which in turn made Kim debate about answering him. If he spoke, would the other boy try and mess with him yet again? On the other hand, if he didn't speak, that might be just as bad. What if that inspired him to mess with him even more? Ah, what a pain. Whatever. Kim glanced over at the other Gryffindor. "Why?" He asked, suspiciously, not having a good feeling about seeing a smirk come to the newcomer's lips. "If I say no, what will you do?" He asked, with an arched brow. |

It was true this first-year wasn't as reactive as most he'd seen, it was quite the pleasant surprise, only convincing the older one to push on. All the first years this year seemed loud and somewhat obnoxious with no reason for why. Perhaps a thought for another time. Alec laughed at the stranger's reaction,“It wasn't as much of a question as it was a statement to affirm.” He replied. Alec was surprised he'd received an answer at all. Alec would have been fine continuing with a game of silent treatment while the stranger screams internally in anguish. Slightly extreme but, Alec was a determined person. It was the little things. He didn't need huge reactions to know he was being a pest to somebody.
Oddly enough the first year seemed highly suspicious about this whole interaction. It was good on them, it meant they were smart, but also guarded, they had to be, right? Only a person with trust issues is suspicious of the act of getting to know somebody. Unless they were mad at him for calling them a dork... Which okay... Is kind sort of completely fair. Alec leaned closer in to the table. “That depends. How much do you like the term 'liar' when used as a reference towards you?” Alec thought it was fitting, if they were going to tell him no it was the perfect nickname. Who else would lie but a liar?
Though Alec would speak of the possibility of Kim being a liar, Alec ended up dismissing it entirely with a wave of his had. “The point is, you have that look.” Yeah the one you were told to stop having. That look. The smirk was still visible on his lips as he carried on, raising an eyebrow as he spoke.“Why so distrusting half-pint?” The Gryffindor tilted his head to the side as he overlooked the other. He was playing games right now, the first-year had to be smart enough to know it. He wondered to what extent.“I swear I'm friendly.”
Alec held his left arm out to shake the stranger's hand, just high enough that his arm wouldn't be covered in food. “Alec, Alec Mason. I'm a Gryffindor, third year.” Alec visibly cringed at the use of his last name. He hated introducing himself with it, but he figured handing his full name out game his some points in the trust department. If the first-year was the type to squabble to a professor they had a fair chance of getting him into trouble with him name involved. At least it was a proper introduction, no doubt Kim knew he was a Gryffindor, that didn't mean he was going to exclude it.

Alec's next words made Kim raised a brow.
Oh, that was it. So, Alec just wanted to mess with him, did he? That was lovely of him.
Heh, two could play at that game. "Well, how much do you like the term 'rude'?" Kim asked, choosing to go the safe route. He'd wanted to say something completely different but using language like that was probably not a good idea. And Alec hadn't really done anything to warrant such behavior as of right now. "And for that matter, what do you have against food?" Kim shook his head and ate more shepherd's pie as he waited for his reply.
As Alec went on to comment that he had that look about him, Kim raised a brow again.
"So, you're saying I have some kind of look about me that makes you think I'm a first year. You mean, I'm all starry eyed and excited about shit that higher years take for granted? That kind of look? If so, well that's news to me. Can you take a picture with a wizard camera and show it to me? I want to study that look, so I can duplicate it later." Kim said, his true Slytherin colors showing from his father's side.
"You know, since I've never had that expression on my face in my entire life until now." He added with a faint smirk. As Alec wondered about why he tended to be so distrusting of him and then told him that he was 'friendly', Kim's lips twitched a little with amusement. "Yeah, I'm friendly too. Really friendly, you better watch out. You might end up as part of my harem. " He said with a straight face, as if he was serious.
Although inside, Kim was dying of how cheesy that had sounded to him.
It wasn't as if he had an actual harem and probably never would. After all, who would join?
No one at Hogwarts liked him. But that was a good thing, Kim wasn't interested in forming any kind of romantic relationships. Or any close relationships at all for that matter.
The only ones he wanted to form were connections, just as his parents had told him to do so. As Alec held his hand out above the food and introduced himself, Kim regarded him for a moment. It didn't seem as if the boy wanted to pull any kind of tricks on him with this introduction. In fact, he'd seen that grimace and wondered if Alec was similar to him when it came to greetings. Even though he was annoying, he wasn't that bad, which was something.
It meant Kim could handle him.
For now.
"Kim. Gryffindor." Kim introduced himself, leaving out his last name. He didn't want to say it in case Alec was a pureblood. Most of the purebloods Kim had met who had found out his last name had approached him for favors after knowing who he was. Of course, all this was under the guise of wanting to be his friend. He didn't need yet another one like that. Not to say Alec would have been like that but Kim couldn't tell what he would do now at this time.
Not until he knew him better.
"...and as you know, I'm a first year." He added with a faint smirk.

"Well, how much do you like the term 'rude'?"
Well it was seemingly fitting considering Alec had to keep himself from laughing at the stranger's attempt at a comeback. Most Gryffindor's he noticed had a thing with honesty. Alec didn't care if he was considered rude. He found it laughable that out of all the other options rude was the one the stranger decided to go for. Instead of continuing the little spat, perhaps increasing the vulgarity in insults with labels, Alec simply said this: “If "rude" is your most eloquent way of labeling me; you have far larger issues than the possibility of being coined a liar.” Alec used air quotations on the word 'rude'. As pompous sounding as the statement was Alec almost believed it. Surely the stranger lacked work in the realm in insults and comebacks.
Alec was confused when the stranger implied Alec had anything against food. He didn't. he was pretty sure he had never said he did. The implication was unexpected and one way to catch Alec off-guard. “Right... Because that's totally what I implied.” The third-year muttered with a shake of his head. Deciding he was better off not even attempting to answer that one. How could he? He didn't having anything against food! Just the stranger. Which wasn't any better now that Alec was putting thought into it but uh, can't start something and not finish it, right?
The stranger tried to make some point with the starry-eyed comment, something about older students taking things in Hogwarts for granted. It could have been a valid point, but Alec's listening skills were unreliable, and what he ended up focusing on was the wizard camera comment. You want a camera? Fine, Alec pulled out his sketchbook and a random pencil from his bag. He kept his sketchbook on a part of the bench beside him. Doing a quick rather messy sketch of the stranger while he kept up with the little conversation. Making a comment about the stranger being on edge. The stranger replied.
"Yeah, I'm friendly too. Really friendly, you better watch out. You might end up as part of my harem. "
Uncomfortable joke. Alec despised the very thought of relationships, even if it was just a joke. He didn't want to ever ever ever think about the topic but he also believed, Alec didn't think he was allowed to move on and seem uncomfortable not addressing it, so instead he put together the most amount of energy and thought he had to focus it on coming up with something to say that wouldn't sound stupid. “Charming, I'm sure people are dying to get in. However, if I was looking for a lifetime of misery, I would get myself a cell in azkaban instead.” Lifetime of misery as in dating the stranger. Perfect way to get past that one? Maybe???
As Alec finished his sketch he realized it was about time he begin to pick up and leave. He had plans before he went, Alec figured with the rude comment and you know being past the point of introductions it was about time he put his name to good use. Half-pint or starry-eyes thought he had something against food and Alec felt like wrecking a poor soul's afternoon. Pulling out the piece of paper with a sketch of Kim, Alec set it down on the table in between Kim's food and his own. After Alec set the piece of paper down he would make his way around the table to Kim's side. Making an attempt to swipe Kim's food off the table and to the ground. To whatever Kim's reaction may have been, Alec simply shrugged. “We can't all divert expectations starry-eyes.” Why wouldn't Alec attempt to live up to the title of rude?
“It's been a pleasure.” Alec turned away, “I'll see you around.” Just like that he walked out.

Alec opened his mouth again.
To say something that made Kim regret being careful with his language when it came to him.
What he'd wanted to say was 'bastard' and had debated between 'cheeky bugger', 'cheeky bloke' or just plain 'rude'. He'd obviously settled on the last one, as it was the tamest of the four choices. But Alec was now pushing his buttons. Kim closed his eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. He wouldn't fall for this little trick of his. Alec wouldn't be able to get a rise out of him like this. And then, the duelist seemed a bit confused about his comment.
The one regarding food and Alec's apparent 'issue' with it, at least in Kim's mind that is.
"Weren't you the one who said food was 'just a meal' and not something to get 'excited' over?" Kim asked with a raised brow, using the same quotations Alec had used before. "I'd say you have an issue with food if you think that way. After all, food is so much more than just being a meal to most people. If it was 'just a meal' then we wouldn't have so many choices and so many flavors." The boy told the third year.
"Food should be appreciated, not only by your tongue but with your eyes too."
Kim continued to eat his shepherd's pie, his plate nearly empty by the time Alec started to do something nearby. He couldn't help but become curious and glanced over at the duelist. From his current position, it looked as if Alec was sketching something but he couldn't quite see what it was. Not unless he decided to lean over more. But Kim wasn't about to do that, it would show Alec he was interested in him. And of course, he wasn't, and couldn't care less.
He didn't care what Alec thought of his remark, it wasn't as if Kim knew him. And the boy was annoying him, so he definitely didn't care. He'd just said the first thing that had popped into his mind that made sense with the comment that had been given to him. Alec's response made a muscle his cheek twitch. But Kim clamped down on retaliating further, it would get the two of them nowhere. Although, he was itching to try and cast a spell at the annoyance.
From beneath the table.
It would be harder to catch him in the act if he hid the action in such a manner.
Best to ignore him and focus on finishing his food. But as soon as Kim decided upon this, Alec stood up and placed his sketch down in front of him. Then, the duelist tried to swipe his food off the table. The nerve of him! Thankfully, Alec missed Kim's food and swiped a basket of croissants off the table and onto the floor. "Hey, what did the food ever do to you?!" Kim exclaimed, narrowing his eyes at the boy above him. Then, Alec turned and walked off.
The tall, silvery-white haired boy shook his head. "...you really are a bastard." He muttered to himself and returned his attention back to the table. Time for his dessert!
It was the best part of lunch.
Hopefully, he wouldn't see that annoyance again, anytime soon that is.
