It was seriously getting hard to keep compartments from filling up with the maximum amount of people allowed inside. Around four people could fit comfortably inside one, but if people squished together eight people could inhabit one compartment. And you couldn't very well tell newcomers to get lost because if all the other compartments were just as full, there was nowhere else for them to go. For most people, it would simply be awkward or a nuisance.
At most, it would be uncomfortable.
But this wasn't what bothered Kim. Sure, the other things applied to him too.
However, Kim had social anxiety that came with large crowds or groups of people he didn't know. He tended to keep this information hidden from others. But just because it was hidden didn't mean the feeling went away for him. Once more, the current compartment he was in filled up and instead of getting squashed between two people he didn't know, Kim decided to leave. He sought out another section but kept finding them filled with the maximum amount.
Some of them had only a few inside but this time he wanted to find one that was completely empty. There had to be at least one, it was a pretty big train. Finally, he found one, all the way near the back. It looked like most students didn't want to go all the way to the back and preferred to sit somewhere near the front or the middle of the train. Kim took a seat inside the compartment and slid the door closed. It was really nice to simply relax by himself all alone.
He didn't have to worry about anyone.
Kim leaned back against the cushioned seat and closed his eyes, the rhythmic sound of the train making his muscles relax even further. It felt so nice to be all alone.
Maybe he'd take a quick nap and when he woke up he'd do some reading to pass the time. He idly wondered what House he'd be sorted into and whether his parents would have a fit if he got into neither of their Houses. Kim didn't care one way or another what House he got into, as long as he could learn as much as he could about everything at Hogwarts. Restrictions? He didn't know that word. There were no restrictions for him. Rules were meant to be broken.
There was always a way around them, if one was determined enough to find it.

Off to Hogwarts!
Ross had been waiting to go to Hogwarts all summer. While he had originally worried about going home, his worries had slowly managed to ease off of his mind as he discussed more and more with his parents. They even let him hold his younger sister! Ross had entirely forgotten how much he had adored muggle things- after all, video games and movies were far too fun to pass up! While his parents still had a distaste for magic, when it was time for him to go to Platform 9 3/4, his father even gave him a hug. A real, and genuine hug.
Going back to Hogwarts had set his spirits high, but his father had managed to set his spirits higher. This year he was certain he packed everything he needed despite how hastily he had packed his belongings. This year was going to be lovely, he could just feel it.
As he walked on the train, a sense of familiarity overcame him. He recalled how he felt his first year where e was full of anxiety and worry and his second where he was still uneasy. He had to actually enjoy the train ride this year. He walked the aisle, peering into compartments to check who was in which one. While he saw several familiar faces that he happily greeted, their compartments were cramped. No, he would need somewhere better!
He kept walking until he got to the very back. He peered into a compartment, expecting it to be fully crowded only to see a singular boy in there. He took his shot, not even bothering to take much notice of the rest of the situation. He was antsy to sit down after exploring an entire train. Yes, he was being picky. Yes, he was going to be upset about the consequences of being picky.
"Hey, is anyone sittin' here? he asked the boy before taking a better look. Was this kid asleep? Already? It was 10 AM! Still, he couldn't help but feel sort of bad for not originally taking note. "Oh, yikes! Were you asleep? Or... are you asleep? I should stop talking if you are asleep." he uncomfortably laughed to himself.
Come on, this kid was younger than him! He had also been in FAR MORE awkward predicaments! How was this getting to him? Sure he had barely socialized the entire summer, but it was not his fault he was rusty!
"I'm just... gonna sit down over here, okay?" He spoke to the boy like he was speaking to a feral animal who he was unsure was about to bite his hand off yet. He sat opposite Kim, sitting next to the window. He had to fix this.
"So, I haven't. seen ya at Hogwarts yet. You're a first year, right?" he inquired.

The train had just started to move and Kim had thought everyone would have found their places by now. But apparently, he was wrong as the compartment door slid open. Despite the fact that he was still awake, Kim decided to pretend as if he was asleep and see what the newcomer would do. Sometimes you could find out a person's true feelings if they thought no one was around and wouldn't see or hear them at the time.
It also applied if they believed you were asleep in the same room.
The boy kept talking to him, even though he was pretending to be asleep to see what he would do. Kim found it kind of amusing and wondered if he would eventually shut up and take a seat, or try to wake him up. But when the stranger took a seat opposite him and asked him a question, Kim decided to end the charade. He kind of wanted to talk to him now. The fair haired boy opened his eyes and pushed himself up a little bit.
Oh, what fun!
From his words, it sounded as if he was at least a second year, if not higher, at Hogwarts. This wasn't a first trip for him. "Maybe you just weren't looking hard enough." Kim said as he gazed at the other male. He wasn't bad looking at all, a little nerdy but that was kind of adorable. "Maybe I've been there all along, but your pretty eyes just swept right over me all the time." Kim said continuing to tease.
Then, he leaned forward, trying to catch the other's eyes. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to be a Sleep Whisperer, would you?" Kim suddenly asked, out of nowhere. A faint smirk played along the corners of his soft lips. He was messing with him so bad, not that the other boy would know this. Or would he? Would he tease him right back? Or get all flustered from his words? Hey, Kim wasn't that tired any more!!!!
Probably because the newbie was making things more fun.

Off to Hogwarts!
The boy opened his eyes and leaned forward with far too much ease to have just waken up. Still, a tinge of guilt was at the back of Ross' mind. Had he waken him up and he just did not want to talk until now? Did he just want him to leave him be? That was what he would assume until he was proven otherwise. He took a mental note to himself to try to figure it out. This would be his first detective work in a couple of months. Summer had kept him quite isolated, after all. He felt it was best to remove the rust off his skills before it came back to bite him.
As the thoughts wandered through his mind, he found himself slightly caught off guard by Kim's words; however, it was likely not due to the intended part. He said it was possible he Was not looking hard enough? Come on! After two years you start to figure out your way around. he thought to himself. He had to prove this boy wrong if he really was a first year, and if not he had to at least figure out where in the world he could be existing. He supposed he never really checked out the potions room- it was far too dark and cold in there for him to want to go there. There could also be some other places he did not go often like the medical wing. Ross was accident-prone, but it really only required minor burn cream to fix his issues.
"Then I betcha you were in your common room a whole lot if I didn't see ya, he remarked, "That means you're not a Hufflepuff, so what house are you?" he inquired. He always loved a good mystery.
Then once again the boy caught him off guard. Ross was oblivious enough to the fact Kim was messing with him, but this pulled his curiosity deeper. His attempt to catch Ross' eyes worked like a charm. His eyes locked on Kim's.
"A Sleep Whisperer?" he inquired a little bit too loudly. He caught himself, covering his mouth and hushing his tone as he leaned forward as if he was exchanging a secret. "What in the world is that?"

The boy played along with him and Kim smirked at his words. Unlike many students who had no idea what to expect at Hogwarts, his parents had told him what the place was like. And had filled his head with various stories about the Houses of Gryffindor and Slytherin. Mostly because both of them wanted him to look forward to being in the same House as them. They spoke of how Gryffindor and Slytherin were always at odds.
Apparently, they tended to fight with eachother all the time. As for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, they were lesser Houses and not as important as the other two. Therefore, Kim didn't know much about those two and only knew about the main two. He let his eyes linger on the stranger before him as he spoke and quickly ran through the options for his response. All he knew was he needed to be quick and precise for the boy.
Or he wouldn't believe him.
But at the same time, he also needed to not make any mistakes.
Going from the color of his robes and that patch, it was obvious the stranger belonged to Hufflepuff. His parents had showed him pictures of their past and pointed out friends, acquaintances, foes and annoyances. Some of the pictures had people from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, which were pointed out to him. Thus, how he was familiar with them. But he'd never actually met one before, until now. His first Huffie encounter.
Ah, right. His response.
Well, he didn't know enough about Ravenclaw and Slytherin was more likely to cause scenes with others. So... that only left one House.
"Hm. Let's see... how about you guess? It's red and gold and roars." Kim said with a smirk. Hopefully, he didn't end up in one of the other Houses later, or else he'd have a hard time explaining that if he saw this boy again. And then, the Hufflepuff fell for his other prank and it was incredibly hard for Kim not to break into laughter right then and there. But the boy managed to school his expression. "You don't know?"
He asked, innocently and tilted his head to the side. "But it's what you were just doing a few seconds ago." Kim said, wondering if the other boy would catch on.

"Oh come on!" the boy exclaimed suddenly, but once noticed how his volume was getting out of control and caught himself laughing at it in turn. "I love puzzles, you gotta give me a harder hint than that one. Like okay, I know I already know the answer and whatnot, but you gotta give me a better clue. Like.. I dunno."
he paused to think. What would be a good one? He knew plenty of Hufflepuff facts. In fact, he had to; however, it was so hard to figure out the best one. One had to tap on the right barrels to enter the common room? No no, if he knew anything about Hogwarts that would have to be obvious. The common room was underground? No, that would be easy. Hufflepuff was literally based on EARTH after all.
"I got it!" he exclaimed suddenly, not even bothering to hide his inability to control his volume anymore. "I come from the house that contains the least amount of dark wizards. What house am I?" he inquired dramatically. He hoped it came off as interesting, it was one of his favorite facts about being a Hufflepuff. "Well, ya already know but...it's the fun of the riddle, isn't it? Do you like riddles? Who am I kidding, of course you like riddles. They're fun!"
As the conversation drifted back to sleep whispering, Ross was still more and more fascinated by the concept of a sleep whisperer. It sounded really interesting to be honest. Ross could only imagine appearing in people's dreams to speak to them. He would love to see what happened in his fellow peers' minds. He barely paid attention to the other boy's facial expressions due to the fact he was caught up in his own thoughts.
"I wouldn't have asked if I didn't know." he remarked with a grin.
He was surprised when he said he had done it just a couple of seconds prior. The head tilt to the side barely threw Ross off. He was most surprised there could be something he did that he had no clue he did. He had heard of snake whisperers at Hogwarts, so it really would not shock him if there were dream whisperers either. "Did a couple seconds ago? Never even heard o' it, so that's gotta be pretty impressive." he joked.

It was kind of amusing how with every sentence, the other boy was steadily getting louder when he spoke. And it was also curious how he continued to realize this shortly afterward and tried to lower his voice again, only to repeat the process a few seconds later. Kim wasn't sure if it was intentional, or just something that the Hufflepuff tended to do all the time. He seemed easily excitable and that made Kim try to hide a smirk.
Excitable people were fun to listen to because they said the most interesting things when they got going. And for someone who loved to listen to others speak, more than he liked to speak himself, these types of people were his favorite. As the Hufflepuff started to speak about making the hint a little harder for him, Kim's lips twitched. Well, now. If he'd known the higher year would be so forthcoming, he would have done so!
He let his eyes flicker over him for a moment.
It was obvious the Huffie was thinking, from the current look on his face.
Kim smirked when the boy finally came up with what he considered to be a suitable riddle. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that challenging either.
Still, props to the other for trying to spontaneously come up with something within a matter of seconds. And then he thought to himself for a few minutes. After a short time, he finished composing inside his head and gave the Hufflepuff a wink. "How about this?" He said with an arched brow and launched into his rhythm poem thing he'd just come up with. Hopefully, the other boy would find it a fun enough riddle now.
"Despite the fact I study and have a clever mind,
I don't belong in this House, because I'm never kind.
Of course I'm not in Hufflepuff since I hate to toil,
But when I DO make friends, I'm always very loyal.
I found myself at odds when it came to this one,
I really wanted to get in for massive loads of fun.
Here in this House, I would use by any means,
Anything I could, to achieve my dreams.
But destiny had other plans in mind,
The cunning and ambitious were said not to be my kind.
For I belonged to a certain House that would always have my back,
This daring, nerve and chivalry I seem to never lack.
And yet I still don't see this inside my weary mind,
I want to go the distance to seek the truth and find,
Why I settled in the House I now am seated at,
It could have been pure SLYTHERIN, you damned ancient hat!
If the boy asked him to repeat it, he was out of luck because Kim would not remember what he'd just come up with on the spur of the moment. That was why he tended to write his creations down. But this had just been a random spontaneous thing, so he'd been unprepared. And it was just for fun anyway, it wasn't like he was going to tell or show it to anyone. This was just to pass the time until they stopped at Hogwarts castle.
Regarding the whole thing about Sleep Whisperers, something that Kim had literally just made up a few seconds ago, the boy seemed to be buying the fact that it was actually some kind of talent or ability. He debated between spilling the beans and continuing to act as if it were actually something real and decided on the latter. It would be kind of hilarious if it actually developed into a real talent or something else.
And if the truth was revealed, well that would be fun too.
Either way, he'd have fun.
"Indeed. I'm sure you'll find out more about it later on once you get to Hogwarts. It's a pretty fun skill." Kim said, nodding wisely, still messing with him.
Lol, I randomly came up with a rhyme there. But I must say, I actually like my creation hahaha! It took me a few tries to get the lines to all rhyme. Well, other than one part.

Off to Hogwarts!
While Ross was more caught up in his own mind, he was relieved to see that the child in front of him was rather entertained with his attempts. While he felt he was an interesting person, at times he was aware of how... horribly average he could come off. With his random rambles and dorky smile, it felt like anyone could replace him some days. Kim on the other hand? Absolutely not. There was a confident, witty aura the boy gave off that Ross had only seen replicated by a few. While some people would take this as an invitation to be friends, Ross took it as an invitation to a mystery.
The boy made up an entire rhyme on the spot. Out of all of the things Kim had done, this was the only part that had almost convinced him he was actually a second year. almost. Ross had never heard the rhyme in his life. Even so, he was intrigued. Every line brought him in. He wished he had not put his journal with the rest of his luggage, as at least then he could have jotted it down.
The first part Ross immediately took notice of. It immediately marked out Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, as being clever was notoriously associated with Ravenclaw. Ross nodded along to the rhyme, smiling as he grew more confident with himself. His first year he would have been stumbling over his thoughts as he tried to process what any of it meant. At least now in his third year, he had managed to sort his thoughts slightly better.
His confidence came to a halt in the second paragraph, but luckily for him, the third caught him right up. Slytherin! Of course, he could not be Slytherin! That left Gryffindor, which of course he knew prior thanks to the boy's original poor hint. Still, Ross felt rather proud of himself for deducing it all himself. Finally, those years of listening to the sorting hat while everyone else dozed off were paying off!
"Do you read poetry or somethin' you lion? I 'aven't heard anything that good in a while. Unless it's some poem your mom or something taught you. Then it isn't that impressive, but it certainly got a nice ring to it!" he explained his thoughts, speaking far too fast as the thoughts waterfalled out of his mouth. "Speaking o' which, are both your parents magic or what? Actually, that sorta comes off weird. I'll start. My mom is not magic, but my dad is! Ooh, wait. Can ya guess my dad's house? I got one!"
The truth was, he did not have one. He barely knew anything about Slytherin. He paused for a dramatic amount of time as he entered thought. Aha! Maybe he could connect it to his original question?
"A little hint, he was in the house that had a leader that did not believe half-bloods deserved to know magic. Sorta ironic because my dad's dad was a wizard, but not my dad's mom."
And then there was the dream speaking. Ross only nodded in turn. "I feel like I shoulda heard of it now if that's the case." he remarked.

──────KIM─SATO──────────────────────────────────────────
──────────────────────────────────── HOGWARTS ──────────
| ── | Kim's lips twitched with amusement as he subtly watched his companion react to his spur of the moment rhyme. It seemed as if he'd caught the boy's attention with it and Kim wondered how far he could take this before the other realized he was just messing with him. But one thing was for certain, this boy was definitely making the trip more bearable. As his companion spoke again, Kim gazed over at the male.
Ah, he wanted to know how he'd come up with the rhyme? That wasn't a surprise. People who'd heard his lines always tended to express interest in him because of them. He didn't really know how he came up with them, it was just something he'd always been able to do. Even at an early age. "Nah, poetry isn't my thing, I like music. So once I have a topic, I kind of just think about a beat and then put words to good use." Kim said with a shrug. Yes, he'd come up with a tune. One all his own. Even if he sang it to his companion, the boy wouldn't recognize it. Not that he intended on doing so. Kim was the sort of guy that got shy when it came to his own works if they weren't completely finished and polished beforehand. And then, the other boy started in on the subject of parents. Not something Kim tended to talk about with anyone. He was a very private person and could make good use of diversion when it came to personal matters. Generalized responses he could deal with but personal ones were a no-no for him. Fortunately, his companion answered his own question and saved him some time. Ah, so he was a half-blood. Kim had met a lot of muggles and half-bloods on the train so far. He idly wondered if there were any new pureblood students here too. Well, he'd eventually find out he supposed. As the boy in front of him continued to talk and effectively steered the conversation away from Kim, which was relieving, Kim raised a brow. Guess what House his father was from? It seemed the other boy really did love his riddles. What did he have for him? Time passed and his companion remained silent and Kim raised a brow. Had he forgotten what to say? Or was he still thinking about it? It appeared as if the boy did not have the talent for being spontaneous when it came to rhymes. Oh, he spoke. Kim regarded his companion as he gave him a 'hint' about his father's House. Well, that one was obvious for someone like him. Kim's parents believed in something similar to that, although it had been more along the lines of separating the two, rather than banning them from magic entirely. On the other hand, muggles did not deserve to learn magic, as they were not a part of the world. The wizarding world at least. Muggles should stick to their own world and leave the magical world alone. That was what Kim's parents believed. Not that this boy would know any of this about him or his parents. "Slytherin." He said with a smirk and tilted his head to the side when the other spoke about having heard of the term 'Sleep Whisperer' by now if it was a real thing at Hogwarts Castle. Oh, how funny. Going from his words, he was definitely not a first year, but he'd known this already. However, he wasn't entirely sure what year he was. A second year? Perhaps, but hadn't he spoken about being active around the castle? Didn't that imply that he was used to being there? Plus, if he was certain he hadn't seen him around, that meant he was an outgoing kind of person. The worst type for him at the moment. Not that there was anything wrong with being an outgoing person. But when one was trying to convince someone else that they had been at the same place for awhile, it was definitely bad for their storyline. If he had to guess, Kim thought the boy before him was either a second, third or fourth year. But not any of the years after those. He just didn't get that kind of vibe from him. Eh, why not ask him for the info? Ah, for that matter, he didn't even know the other boy's name yet. "You never told me your name." Kim said as he looked expectantly at the other boy in his compartment. "What year are you? I'm guessing, a second, third or fourth year. Am I right?" He asked, waiting to hear the other's response. If he couldn't guess it on his own, he'd just simply ask the person in question. Kim had no issues doing so, it was a natural thing to do. If you have a question, ask it! |
