Bored in Class pv

DADA was my favorite class followed very closely by Transfiguration, and it was my favorite to the point where I had read the whole first year syllabus over three times so I knew a lot of what the professor taught us in this class, but not everything. Some things required better explaining then what the book had given or and that was not to mention that I had also forgotten certain things that I didn't even know I forgot until the professor asked about it, but this is besides the point, the point being that the professor was currently teaching us about Doxies, something they had covered back when he was teaching us the Knockback Jinx although this time he was going more into detail on the subject and whilst most people were taking notes, I didn't do it as much since like I said before, I knew a lot about what the professor was saying.

But I wasn't the only one who wasn't writing, there was a girl to my right who wasn't doing so either, until she was. I didn't pay attention to it too much since I didn't really have a reason to, but pretty soon the girl caught my attention when she placed a note on my table. I unfolded it and read what it said:

Hello, sorry to bother you. Are you bored too? I don’t know what to write, so I’m leaving mine for after class. What’s your name- Oh! I forgot to tell you mine. I’m Shanelle Meza, but you can call me Shanelle, or Elle. (No one calls me that but it’s an epic nickname).

Was I bored? Not exactly although since she mentioned it I probably looked like I was. Well, now I knew why she wasn't writing so I took my quill, dipped it into some ink, and started writing a good two inches down from Shanelle's note.

Well Elle, I'm not really bored, it's just that I know a bunch of this stuff although I don't really know everything which is why you might catch me writing down something occasionally, but other than that, unless you also know what the professor is teaching then I'd recommend to start writing, it really helps later when you're doing homework. Or don't, but before moving on I'll just say that there's some stuff that the professor explains much better then the book does, and that would mostly be because of the actual wording of the book although sometimes it isn't.

That aside, I'm David Logan Howard, but almost everyone calls me Dave. Why almost everyone? Because the professors usually call me Mr. Howard so saying everyone would be a lie. So based on what you have written I'm asssuming assuming that this is a way to kill time, right? Well it does work, not that I've seen it used before, but I know it works because by the time you read this note, I estimate that over four minutes of time would have passed since you gave me your note and it doesn't help that I keep looking back up to the blackboard just to see if there's anything new up there since I can't exactly pay attention as much when I'm writing something that's completely off topic. Anyways, I think that's all that I have to write as of know and I must say that I really am sorry for how long this response took, but I couldn't help it. And take your time with your next response, or if you don't want to do that then you could make it really long which is probably the same thing, so if you don't want to do that then just fidget for two minutes, and then pass me the note because trust me, I do not want to put my hand back to work so fast and please ignore the fact that I'm writing in my notes, I just have to rewrite something real quick.

Now I would occasionally look back up to the blackboard in case the professor had written anything useful on there, but there was usually nothing there that I didn't already know at which point I would look back down and continue my note back to her. And why usually? Well, because there was just one time, around the time when I finished the sentence that would be the last one of the first paragraph, that I saw something the was actually useful on the blackboard and tried to write it down as fast as possible before continuing on my note so that was another time waster and as I was finishing up my note, I had also realized that I would have to rewrite it later since it was written a bit sloppily do to me not being used to writing fast, so included that in the note and once it was finished, I let the ink dry out before folding the note and looking around the room to make sure that no one was looking, including the professor, and once I was sure of that, I slid my note over to Shanelle before giving my attention back to the professor.

He sure took his time, Shanelle thought to herself. The boy she passed a note to had taken forever to write a reply. She kept looking back at him, and found him writing furiously on a sheet of parchment. He switched and then scribbled on another sheet of parchment, but he kept looking up at the board and copied down notes from the board. He was probably hardworking, unlike her.

When he finally passed her the note after forever, she quickly snatched it and started unfolding it. She read.

She couldn’t help but smile as she read the note. So now she understood why he wasn’t writing. He was too smart for this. The first paragraph made sense, if she wanted to get good grades, she’d better start listening and copying stuff done. Shanelle didn’t care much about school work, but she didn’t want to fail her first year at school. She continued reading. So, his name was Dave? She almost laughed as she read the next part. He was quite hilarious. Not everyone would count how long he had taken to write the note. As she continued reading on, she also started writing.

You’re hilarious Dave. And smart too. How did you manage to know everything about this class? I wish I could do that. Then I wouldn’t be sitting here worrying. And you’re right! I should better start copying down notes. I want to pass this class. But it’s a fact that I’m not good at DADA. I’m not sure what to do, exams are not that far away. And I don’t want to disturb you, we can talk after class! I might need some help with studying.

Shanelle finished the note, folded it twice, and passed it to Dave.

Elle was really fast, or so it seemed to me because as not that much time had passed after I had rewritten my notes before she passed the note back to me. I grabbed it and unfolded it before reading what it said.

Well, about that. See, I loved Defense Against the Dark Arts so knowing (almost) everything about this class wasn't much of a problem although it didn't happen overnight either. And as for my other classes, well, let's just say that I had to write much more in my notes then I had to in this class, even for Transfiguration since I didn't read on it as much. And then there was also the fact that Elle wasn't good at DADA and then she reminded me that exams were coming closer so I decided to address that first in my note back to her. Turns out that it wasn't the thing that I addressed first.

Thanks for the compliment and I do not know everything about this class although I really wish I did. But to answer your question, the reason why I know (almost) everything about is because I read the book multiple times but that aside, don't worry, you can just copy my notes. I'm joking, you can't copy them but I could help you study once I'm out of Potions class later today in which case I could meet you in the library and if you need help studying for any other classes don't come to me for Herbology, I suck at that class probably even more then you suck at Defense but then again, how would I know? And no, you're not really disturbing me although you probably would be had this been any other class but we can definitely talk after class(es) in which case I’m usually sitting in the very back corner of the library located to the right of the entrance from three pm to dinner time although sometimes I'm not there for various reasons.

I then folded the note three times instead of one like I did last time, or two times like Elle did just now, and once I was finished with that I took a quick look around the room, saw a kid starring in my direction, turned around, waited half a minute, looked around to make sure that no one was starring, including the professor, and once I was sure that no one was indeed starring I passed the note over to Elle.

Shanelle kept turning around, waiting for David to finish writing. He didn’t take as long this time, as he finished writing quite soon. She was facing directly to him, ignoring the professor. She was about to hold her hands out to receive the note, but then David stopped, and looked around. She followed his gaze and caught sight of a Slytherin girl staring at them. Ah, that must be why he wasn’t passing the notes.

He waited a little longer before passing it over. Shanelle took it and eagerly unfolded it.

She took her time reading. Now she understood why he was so good at the subject. He had taken the time to read everything! That’s something Shanelle would never do. She wasn’t so sure if she could still manage to get decent grades so far into the year. She would definitely take Dave up on his offer to help her after classes. She seriously needs help. She continued reading. Herbology? That was one of the subjects she was pretty good at. Definitely not great, but she had managed only E’s and O’s so far. That, and Charms she was pretty good at. Maybe they could tutor each other? She finished reading and started writing.

Wow! I would never have the patience nor time to sit down and read the textbooks, especially not more than once. I’d take up your offer for help. I definitely need some help with DADA, and History of magic. But I don’t need help with Herbology, it’s one of the subjects I’m pretty good at. If you ever need help with the subject, I can help! Glad that I know I’m not disturbing you, I’d hate that. The class is almost ending, and my next class is 5 minutes, so I’d have to hurry. Maybe we can meet at the library at 4:30?

Elle passed me the note back just as fast as she did last time, maybe even faster since she didn't have to read as much this time as she did last time I gave her the note, but when she did pass me the note, I unfolded it, noticing how she folded it three times like I did, before reading what she had written.

As I read her note on the piece of parchment that didn't have much space left to write on do to us wasting the piece of parchment, I got reminded of the time and realized that Elle wasn't the only one that was really fast, so I had to start writing and I had to finish up my response before the teacher would dismiss us, so I dipped my quill into the ink before starting to write on the paper:

I then folded up the paper and gave it to Elle before waiting until the professor dismissed us and once he did, I headed out of the classroom, hoping Elle would say yes when we'd meet later on in the library.

Shanelle was aware that the teacher was very close to finishing the lesson, they didn’t have much time. Silently wishing that the class could last a little longer just so they could keep passing notes, she eagerly took the note from David once the class ended. He left the classroom immediately, as should Shanelle, since there are classes afterwards. But Shanelle took a minute to read the note. She unfolded it and started reading.

She didn’t quite expect the last bit. She was just worrying about the Blossom Ball, having no one to go with. That’s one problem solved. She looked back at the first bit agai. It was such a great idea to teach each other stuff. She definitely needs the help, and she wants to help Dave too. When Shanelle proceeded to write a note back to him, she remembered that he already left the classroom. She laughed at her own mistake and left the classroom. But before she did, she made a mental note to herself that she needs to be at the library at 4:30 for their meeting, so she has to bring their homework. But most importantly, she would be bringing the dress she was going to wear to the ball because she was saying yes to Dave.
