A Feathered Friend & Maybe An Other
AngelFyre hurried up to the Owlery to see Archimedes, her favorite amongst the owls. She visited him at least once a day, looking him over, making certain he was well groomed and in good health. She knew owls tended to be loners by nature, so she sometimes worried about his stress levels amidst the large parliament of owls within the crowded Owlery.
To her relief, he always looked and sounded good. Maybe there was some enchantment she was unaware of on the place that eased such stresses for all of the owls. His physical needs were beautifully met. He had a bountiful forest in which to hunt as well as a fresh water fountain in the owlery, not to mention a plethora of streams and brooks in the surrounding Scottish Highlands for hydration and grooming.
She entered and then stood in her usual spot to the left side of the entrance. AngelFyre tucked the morning's meat treat in the indented space between her gloved thumb and index finger after making her fist. Then, being certain to keep her wrist and forearm level and in proper form to receive him safely on her arm, she raised her left arm which was his cue to come to her for inspection. She always had a little treat for him, courtesy of the house elves, and he knew it.
In the beginning of the school year, this little routine of theirs took a bit to nail down. Archimedes had to establish amongst the other owls that AngelFyre's presence and offerings were meant for him and him alone. Feathers flew, wings flapped, shrill screeching echoed throughout the Owlery, and yes, some blood had been shed, but eventually, everyone came to an understanding and peaceful mornings had long since prevailed.
"Good morning, old friend. How are you this fine, crisp day?" As he was busily tearing at the treat in her glove, AngelFyre looked him over. He looked well. She waited until he had finished and then she brushed her right hand on his breast. He blinked, long, lazy blinks and she knew he was content. "I have a letter for you to deliver, Archimedes, but it will not require you to fly a long or dangerous distance. This is for someone here at school. Do this and the rest of your day belongs to you and you alone." AngelFyre then strapped her letter to the tether on his leg and then lowered and lifted her arm, signaling to him that he could take off now.
Unlike any of the other owls she had sent off previously, AngelFyre was uncertain what to expect, if anything, from this one. She was writing to someone who had caught her attention in their DADA class, namely because, like herself, he seemed so quiet. He seemed wicked smart. It would be coming to him out of the blue, but AngelFyre figured if he was not interested, there would be no harm and no foul. Starting relationships was not her forte, so if this was an epic fail, at least she was not risking too much by way of embarrassment.
Archimedes tightened his talons on her glove and she could feel the tension rising in his legs as he hunkered down and back a bit before lifting off. "That goes to James Owens, Arc," she said as he took flight. The note he carried was succinct, well... succinct by AngelFyre standards.

@James OwensHello.
We do not know each other, but we share classes together. You look like you are quiet, like me, and maybe in need of a friend, as am I. Would you be interested in getting to know each other by owls? If so, just send a reply back via the owl. If you are interested, I will say who I am in my next owl, or not. That choice I shall leave to you.
Hope to hear from you,
A future(?) friend

A Feathered Friend & Maybe An Other
@AngelFyre McCubbin
James was walking down the hall to Hufflepuff common room. He walked in saying hello to the few students sitting in the common room and walked to the dorms. Some boy who was in there quickly shoved the letter into his chest. "Here's more of your stupid 'fan mail'. You seem to be popular with the girls for a first year."James grabbed the letter from him as he walked out of the dorm.
It's not fan mail and it's not stupid. You don't have to be rude about it gosh. James muttered under his breath after the boy left and sat on his bed opening the letter. It was from a girl like the boy had said. He could tell from the way it was written. It was from a girl he had classes with. He was unsure who as she hadn't signed her name. James wondered.
James grabbed a parchment and his quill and wrote back to the girl.
No that's not right. James crumpled it and started again. He tried again and again. He just couldn't find the right words. He wrote another and read it over.Hello there,
Of course, I would love to get to know you by owls.
James didn't think it would work but he had already wasted so many parchments. He rolled the letter up tying it with a small bit of ribbon and walked down to the Owlery. He walked to his owl and placed the letter in the small pouch upon it's leg and sent it off. He hoped to hear a response from this mysterious girl who he supposedly had classes with.Hello there,
I am quite quiet, but have been looking for friends. I think it would be nice to get to know each other over owls.
Sincerely,
James Owens
