The castle was completely abuzz with the arrival of the other school, students scurrying around for dates, twittering about the approaching events and what to wear; somehow it all felt like the static electricity before a storm. Though, perhaps that was just her own paranoia poking at her. Nothing good ever seemed to come of a school function. Maybe a little bit also having a hand in her reluctance about the upcoming dance was the prospect of going alone. Most dances she seemed to find herself alone. The one dance where she'd had a date hadn't gone very well, and she hadn't even heard from the person since.

It wasn't like she made a terrible effort though to try to seek out a date, or friends to go with. Despite having a small circle, it seemed the young witch had simply resolved to the habit of staying alone. Certainly, that must've been the only easy way to get along, wasn't it? To just be alone.

Even today, as beautiful of a day as it was now that spring was starting to settle in, Illowy was alone. She'd taken up perch on one of the massive rocks that lined the shores of the Great Lake, sketchbook in hand as she twirled her pencil through her fingers. By now, she was sure she'd drawn nearly every angle this lake had to offer, but it was a sight she never grew tired of. Despite everything that had happened, the view and the castle always appeared so calm and resolute.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

For some reason, all of their friends seemed busy or distant. Jay tried to not think too much of it, after all, homework would pile up, and everyone had things to do. It was probably their own fault for the distant-ness since they were homeschooled for the first half of the school year. All Jay had to do was find things to do on their own, fulfill their boredom. They wandered around the castle grounds seeing students in their own little groups, chatting and laughing obnoxiously loud.

Jay decided to go to the great lake, they hadn't visited in a while now. They thought excitedly of the frogs hopping around, would they risk ruining their uniform for frog catching though? Jay couldn't think of any cleaning spells or charms at the top of their head... They shrugged and walked off across the grass to the lake. Jay wondered if they could get a nice view of the whole lake, their eyes wandered to the grand rocks at the other end. With much haste, they rolled up their pants and ran to the rocks, and climbed.

Taken aback, they saw a girl sitting on the largest rock with a sketchbook of sorts. Wasn't she in the same year as them?
"Oh erm, hey.."

The snake's pencil scratched quietly against the paper, lost in her thoughts. Honestly, she figured most people would be too busy bustling about by the castle to even bother coming so far out on the ground. Obviously not everyone as the silence was broken by the sounds of something hurrying towards the banks. Turning her head, she watched as another student was eagerly scaling the rocks, pants hastily rolled up before they paused, realizing she was there. What in Godric's name were they even doing?

The awkwardness felt almost tangible to Illowy, "Um... hey..." she replied. Her ghostly pale eyes looked the other up and down, trying to make sense of what they were doing, crawling about in their uniform of all things. It didn't occur to her they might've had the same mission as she had; to just enjoy a quiet afternoon with a view. Or simply enough they might've just been trying to have some fun. Kids did have fun on occasion. It wasn't a new concept. Clearly, Illowy also wasn't the sort to scale rocks like a lizard that hadn't seen the sun since winter. Heaven forbid she forgo poise and propriety in a moment alone.

Even in private, Illowy probably was a little too tight laced for her age.

The other seemed somewhat familiar though. Certainly not from her house, but maybe they were in the same class class or passed each other in the halls? She couldn't be completely sure, "What uh... whatcha doin' there?" she finally asked, making a small gesture with her pencil towards the other.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

A soft sigh escaped Jacqueline’s lips as she napped. She was resting on a small, pale blue blanket next to a bush and a tree. A closed journal worn with use lay atop her stomach. She had traveled from the Slytherin dungeons to the lake for a peaceful getaway so she could be alone with her thoughts but ended up slipping into dreams. One couldn’t blame her given the combined comfy state of the weather and her usual oversized dark clothing, which consisted of a long grey sweater, black jeans, and black sneakers.

She had been dreaming about something intriguing before she awaken by rustling in the bushes beside her. Jacqueline yawned silently and looked about in a slight daze. She felt a little refreshed even though she figured she’d slept no more than thirty minutes.

Over the sound of water lapping against the lake rocks she thought she heard the sound of voices. A slight frown creased her face at thought of potential hooligans, which Hogwarts wasn’t foreign to.

She got up and gathered her things, making her way to the lake. She thought about skipping rocks along the water, which seemed to be a growing interest when she visited the lake, but changed her mind when she noticed figured on the rocks. Jacqueline squinted her eyes to make out who they were. One of them looked familiar, as if she had seen them maybe in the Common Room though she felt like it was a girl from Charms. She decided to go up and check, having a question pertaining to the class.

Not that far up did she realize neither of them were familiar but she was already up there and was curious about the view anyway. She only came up here once or twice before and usually didn’t take in sights around her, getting lost in her thoughts most of the time in such tranquil moments.

“If I’m intruding, apologies,” she said, eyeing the two for a moment before looking back at the lake. Not really, tho. She was sitting a little bit aways but close enough for hearing distance in case a conversation was started. She started picking off the few leaves that had got caught in her long curly hair, which she had tied in a low pony tail.

The girl pointed her pencil at them, a journalist or an artist was she? Jay put their hands on their hips, "I am looking for adventure, something to do, it's a quest!" they replied enthusiastically, though for someone who is rarely enthusiastic they had sounded perhaps a little sarcastic. They tried to get closer and get a view of whatever was on her sketchbook, "And what brings you here? I wouldn't have thought I'd see someone else up here," they asked her just as another girl popped up onto the rock. This place was quite a popular today eh? Lucky them! More interactions with more people. This girl looked much younger than the both of them, they rarely ever talked to younger students. Most of the time it was because they either felt awkward or thought too highly of themself to be talking to a younger student.

"I don't think you're intruding, miss," Jay said, they then realized introducing themself would be well mannered. "I'm Jay Victoria, fourth year, and you all?" they said. The purple-haired wix wasn't sure if revealing their house would be a good idea so they never mentioned it. Jay Victoria was still certainly not proud of being a lion.

Illowy couldn't help but give the other a quizzical look, trying to gauge if they were serious or not as they proclaimed their intention of finding adventure. Such enthusiasm, though tinted with sarcasm. Even a stone demeanor like Illowy couldn't help but crack a smile and let out a short laugh, "Aye, then?" her eyes fell back to her sketchbook, "I guess out here is as good of place as any to find yerself an adventure." she agreed.

From the corner of her eye she could see them moving closer, trying to peak at her work. Once upon a time, she'd made a boy practically pee himself by turning him into target practice when he tried to do the same thing. Lucky them, she'd mellowed out a little, "Its finally nice out, so I thought I'd come draw a bit and get some fresh air before the rain settled back in." the snake explained.

Another voice seemed to pop up, and as Illowy turned to noted one of the first year from her house. While Illowy didn't make it a priority to personally know all of the first years, she still made mental notes on which were in her house. If anything, she was protective of them above most. First years were so shiny and innocent and new, and after her experience in her early years at the school, she couldn't help but try to at least make sure they were safe, "Yer fine, poppet." she assured the kid, watching a moment as the child sat herself a bit away from the older pair. Last thing she needed was her getting scooped up by the squid or something.

Turning back to the one who introduced themselves as Jay Victoria, Illowy offered a small smile, "Illowy Magnard. Fourth year too." the girl the gestured towards Jay again, "I like yer hair. Never seen that colour on a person before."

Both of the students said she hadn’t been intruding, which she’d figured, but had still felt like being considerate. She looked back at them, taking in the fact that they seemed to be a bit older than her. She was twelve now and didn’t think that she had grown too much in the past school year. She wondered if ‘poppet’ referred to her younger age.

“Hm…,” she sniffed, looking back at the lake. Sometimes she got rather bored in these primarily uneventful types of places but the big ole castle of Hogwarts seemed to influence her to get used to the stillness of things, especially when she found herself wandering in places with little to no presences. Jacqueline wondered if she had matured much since she got here, considering that she had to get used to many mostly boring days of classes and schoolwork. Wizard school was no where as fun as homeschooling with her aunt and cousins used to be.

The purple haired student called themselves Jane and the other one Illowy, and they were both fourth years. Jacqueline didn’t really care too much about age, or year, differences when it came to her peers but she found that many people did. She remembered the weird occurrences when other first years would practically bow down or hang onto every word of an elder student, or when the elders themselves almost expected that from the younger ones, being that conceited. Jacqueline felt like she was lead by a good sense of judgement when it came to someone’s character, which is what she got from her mother, who was sometimes an overly-critical person.

“I’m Jack, it’s my first year here.” She hugged her legs to her chest, glancing at the girl’s journal. She wondered if it was for writing, similar to her own hobby, or if it was for drawing, which she hadn’t done much of lately. ”Why are you guys up here? I thought I recognized one of you but…” She eyed the dark-haired one. ”What houses are you in? I’m in Slytherin, curiously.”
