Bailey Glade wrote: 21 Mar 2022, 02:23That makes total sense. With a few of my friends they help teaching Taekwondo with me (although I teach a lot more than they do ) , we refer to each other as Mr. and Miss while teaching, but out of teaching and in our own class, it’s first names. with the Taekwondo organization I train with, anyone who is a black belt (like me) or higher rank than you (probably like me) it’s mr, miss, or Mrs. I’m Miss insert my real name here- I almost wrote it down… oops, since I’m one of the highest ranks. I still call all of the adults and over-18 s mr/mrs/missMarius Brown wrote: 21 Mar 2022, 02:08@Bailey Glade I think it's so polite!
Here if we're calling someone by their given name (without their title), we simply use one syllable from their name, usually a syllable that consists of consonant-vocal-consonant. (For example, instead of "Hey, Marius!" we'll say "Hey, Mar!")
But when we introduce ourselves or when we talk about a third party, we use the whole given name:
"I'm Marius."
or "Hey Mar, did you see Bailey?" "Bailey? Oh, there she is! Bail, Bail! Please come here, Jean's looking for you!"
That makes total sense too, the taekwondo rank vs the outside-class ways of calling each other.
BTW I'm curious, what is it like to join a martial artist club? I almost joined a kung fu club when I was a preteen, but then my mum disagreed.

Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire - these are the things to fear.

IC Bailey almost got detention because I was practicing with a sword in the rehearsal room…. It was a practice form but still scary. I was decently new to the site, my first starter I had done and ya… Bailey was in full uniform too…

OoC, how do you learn taekwondo? Is it in a school club, outside-school club, private training, ...? (I'm just curious, apologise if this is too personal for you.)

So… started in the us and it spread. I’ve been training with the same instructors for almost 10 years. I’ve qualified for the district championships twice, and am (possible) headed towards a third.
My younger siblings all do martial arts and I started because of my grandmother who still rains with me and by brothers.
