It was 8:30 AM when Shanelle woke up, eager for a day with no lessons. Then she remembered she had a Peaceful Mind Club meeting that day, at 10:00 AM. That brought a smile to her face, she was more than excited to start off her day with some mindfulness. This should be the first meeting after signing up, which she figured would be a good move to make more friends.

She changed into her Gryffindor house robes, and headed down to the Great Hall for some breakfast. She wasn’t a big fan of the morning meal, since she rarely had an appetite in the morning, but that breakfast was particularly delicious and fresh.

After finishing breakfast, she headed back to the dorms, suddenly realising she should bring something to the meeting. She recalled her mother’s stern advice, never to go to a meeting or a party empty handed. Luckily, she had a few scented candles lying around, gifts from Christmas. That should help meditation and mindfulness, Shanelle thought to herself as she gathered a few of those.

She checked the time again, 9:45 AM, time to head to the meeting. She walked all the way to the lawn in front of the lake, and spotted Bailey, the organiser of the club and host of the meeting. She had only met the older Ravenclaw once, but she seemed kind and friendly.

”Hi! I’m Shanelle, I’m here for the meeting.” Shanelle waved, a little shy. She caught sight of the food on the ground, and grinned. Looks like a picnic would be involved.

Feeling like someone was approaching, Bailey looked up. A pretty, bring girl with amazing blue eyes was approaching. I think her name is Shanelle Bailey thought. And she was right. The girl introduced herself saying, “ Hi! I’m Shanelle, I’m here for the meeting.”. “Hello” Bailey responded. Feel free to try some meringue or some lemonade. I made both, so if you have any allergies just let me know so next time I can bring something you can have.
Scooting over so Shanelle could join her on the blanket, Bailey closed her book and put it back into her bag. So… how are you? Bailey asked, deciding this was an easy way to calm down; sometimes you just needed to talk about you for once. “And if you don’t want to talk about yourself, we can talk about anything really. Just not politics or anything… This is supposed to be calming not irritating or negative.” Bailey smiled to show that it was a joke. Taking a meringue and pouring herself a glass of lemonade , she asked Shanelle, “So… how has school been? Are your classes going well? Oh, and if I ever talk to much, just tell me and I’ll stop. I have a habit of chattering on and on.

Shanelle gave a shy smile before sitting down next to Bailey. Bailey had blonde hair and blue eyes, a little like herself, but she gave out kind and friendly vibes. She eyed the food again, they looked amazing! ”Wow, these looks really good!” She said before reaching her hand and taking a meringue. She bit into it, and almost immediately, her eyes widened. They were the best thing she had tasted in a long time! ”Oh my gosh! This is so good! How did you make these?” She said, gobbling down the last bit in the most unlady-like way. ”And no, I do not have any allergies.”

A blush formed on her face when she realised she needed to be more composed. She quickly composed herself and wiped her mouth with a handkerchief she kept in her pocket. ”I’d love to talk about myself, as long as you don’t find me irritating.”Shanelle started, hoping she was giving a good impression. I’m doing well, I think Hogwarts is the place that I was destined to be. And I couldn’t agree more about politics.” She had a dreamy look when she talked about Hogwarts, like she always does, but the dreamy look turned into a frown. Politics was a topic she dislikes a lot and would rather not talk about. ”Well, classes are a little… different than I expected, but I rather enjoy them. And even though I haven’t made a lot of friends yet, I find most people here kind and helpful.She said, slightly embarrassed with the fact that she had little friends and would spend a lot of her time along.

”What about you? Is Year 2 much different from the first year? Do you have a lot of friends?”She was curious, but the last question might be a little offensive. ”You don’t have to answer the second question if you don’t want to. And I don’t think you’re talking too much, I love chatting.”She said that with a shy grin.

Shannelle grabbed one of the meringues and but into it. Her eyes widened. Hopefully that is not disgust. Bailey through. It was not, and Shannelle confirmed that fact with a simple “Oh my gosh! This is so good! How did you make these?”
As Bailey watched Shannelle gobble down the meetings, she smiled and answered, It is just whipped egg whites with sugar incorporated into it but by not. I also added a bit of my mum’s homemade vanilla extract. She buys vanilla beans imported from South America and sokes them in vodka. She learned this from her great grandmother, who was polish. Apparently this is like a Polish recipe??? When Shannelle said that she did not have any allergies, Bailey sighed. thank goodness. I’m pretty good at getting recipes to adapt, but with no muggle phone and internet connection, it gets a bit harder.
When she offered for Shannelle to speak about herself, the girl took the opportunity. I’m doing well, I think Hogwarts is the place that I was destined to be. I get being a loner. I’m from a muggle family and this is so different than being homeschool like I had been. My classes are going well and I have a few friends. I was saved by drowning by James Owens, and the I asked him to the blossom Ball. He said yes. He is so nice. Then deciding to take the topic off of herself, she asked Shannelle, Do you have a date to the ball? Are you going to go? I don’t think you have to have a date to go… you could probably go with a friend if you would like.

Meringue was something her mother had made for her before, but it never tasted this good, it’s probably because of the vanilla extract. She thought how it was made seemed very traditional and precise. ”No wonder it tastes so good!” “I get being a loner. While she was a pureblood, she understood the huge difference, homeschooling and Hogwarts is completely different. I can’t agree more. She had been thinking about it for a while but wasn’t sure who to ask. The Blossom Ball was coming around the corner, she needed to get a date, fast.

As she rambled on about herself being a loner, from a muggle family and the differences of Hogwarys and the muggle/ non magical world, Shanelle nodded like she understood. Maybe.. does she understand? Bailey’s questions were answered when Shanelle spoke.
I can’t agree more. I am a pureblood, and I went to a muggle elementary school, but it was completely different from Hogwarts.”
That’s really cool. Bailey said in response. I’m glad, because then some of the muggle like stuff I do will make sense to someone. Bailey said, laughing slightly.
She then continued, I was saved by drowning by James Owens, and then I asked him to the blossom Ball. He said yes. He is so sweet.
Shanelle squeezed, and Bailey did too, just slightly. Though not many people knew it, but she was a bit of a romantic.
That. Is. So. CUTE! Shanelle said. It’s so romantic that he saved your life.” Shanelle said, a huge smile on her face. She then continued, I want to go to the ball, but yea, I don’t have a date.” She said in response to Bailey’s question.
I think you could just go alone or with friends.. But you are so pretty; I’m sure someone will ask you out.
Looking around, Bailey was grateful that it was very sunny. If it had been raining, she would have been very disappointed. Glancing at Shanelle and then around for the other club members, she poured herself a glass of lemonade.

Shanelle chuckled. “Are you sure? I am not very accustomed to muggles, I was always the weird one in school.” She said, an amused look on her face. “But I guess I would understand some of the muggle terms, it’s really weird to remind myself not to use them when I talk to people. They would probably think I was weird if I started talking about the internet and all.” Shanelle laughed at the absurd idea.

“I guess I might go alone and then see who I would meet there.” She shrugged. As much as she wanted a date to the ball, going alone wouldn’t be that bad. She could meet all sorts of people! She got excited just thinking about it. Who knows what would happen then.

Seeing Bailey pour lemonade, Shanelle took a sip of hers. She looked around, there doesn’t seem to be anyone around. She checked the time again, it was 9:56 AM. Four more minutes until the meeting officially starts. Still no one there except for them.

She decided to ask. “Who else is coming? Do we have a lot of members?” She was curious. When she signed up for the club, she wasn’t sure who else signed up. She hoped it was someone she had seen around, or someone interesting. And she hoped the meeting would start soon, she needed some mindfulness.

Talking with Shanelle, Bailey felt more relaxed than she had. She was so glad that she had decided to have a meeting for the Peaceful Mind Club today. And bringing meringue and lemonade had been such a good idea.
As Shanelle talked about not going to the Blossom Ball with anyone, and wanting to maybe meet people there, Bailey smiled.
As she poured herself some lemonade, Shanelle asker her who else was coming and how many members the Peaceful Mind Club had.
Bailey answered. Um… I don’t know who all is coming. Since it was no RSVP, I was not sure anyone was going to come. And I think we have…
Pausing to count in her head, Bailey continued after a moment. I believe there are 7 members, 8 including me. Maybe some new people will notice us and come join. shrugging, Bailey said something like, who knows?
Continuing yet again, Bailey said “Hopefully the other members will come. I have my fingers crossed that they will, but who know. Shrugging, Bailey thought Maybe I should have had them RSVP. Too late now to fix it though
Looking around, she saw someone walking towards them. is that a member? she wondered?

It was the first time Shanelle had told someone about her history, Bailey was the first one. As people say, she did feel better after telling her.

“That might have been easier to track how many people are coming. But maybe they're busy.” Shanelle guessed, but she was uncertain. “8 people? I hope more people are coming.” She said with a sigh, two people at a club meeting would be quite weird. And even though she’d love more than anything to be friends with Bailey, she was hoping to make more than 1 friend. “Maybe someone new would come and join us.” She echoed. “Are we going to start if no one comes?” Shanelle asks, she didn’t want to start with only two people, but she didn’t want to just sit here chatting either. She wondered what kind of mindfulness would happen. “What are we doing today? I’m so excited!” She said with a shy grin.

“I do hope the members who joined would come, who joined exactly?” She asked, hoping for someone that she knew. Or someone really nice and friendly. When Bailey turned to look around, Shanelle did the same. Wait, someone was walking towards them, were they there to join? She hoped so.
