An (Unfortunate) Dip in the Lake (continued)
@James Owen
@ Kelsey BrumbyContinuing An (Unfortunate) Dip in the LakeTalking to James, Bailey felt a connection with him. Maybe it was because they both seemed to complement each other ( which was nice. Not many people complemented her) or because she thinks he might like writing like her or drawing ( why else did someone besides her have muggle pencils and erasers ?) or for some other reason, but Bailey was pretty sure they were going to be good friends. When James said “Next time, I'll get the door. We can take turns" after she held the sort for him, she quickly agreed. ”That works for me!” Bailey said. that was super sweet of him to offer! she though I thought etiquette was dead for most people.
“So… do you do any sports? Or have any hobbies? Bailey asked. This was a pretty lame attempt at a conversation, but it was better than nothing.
“Do you write or draw? she asked.
As they walked up the stairs towards the Hospital wing, Bailey began to shiver again. Her hair had started dripping down her back, and the water was ICY COLD . Wrapping her cloak that was, thankfully, dry except the edge, around herself, she began to quicken her steps just slightly. She didn’t want to make James hurry just for her. Besides, she had a fairly high pain tolerance. Bailey was pretty sure she was fine but she had learned from paste injuries that double checking with a professional is way better that finding out the hard way.Word count: ≈ 260 ish.

Bailey agreed to the idea of them taking turns holding the door open for each other. James was glad. He hated the feeling of people taking over or feeling like he wasn't able to do anything. They continued their way up to the hospital wing.
Bailey asked him if he did any sports then continued on to ask him if he had any hobbies. James already knew the answer to both of those. "No, I don't really do sports. I'm muscular sure but that's because I used to help my father fix and rebuild houses." James was a more muscular than any other twelve-year-old boy he had seen in his life. He never thought of it as a bad thing. It was helpful. James was quite tall for his age as well. Just a few inches over average height.
Bailey then asked if he wrote or drew. "I do both actually. I love writing and drawing. They are activities that are more calming and relaxing" James drew more than he wrote but nonetheless he did write. Short stories to medium long stories. James called them quick reads.
James noticed that Bailey had started to shiver again and wrapped her cloak around herself. She quickened her pace and James quickened his as well. "Would you like my jacket again?" James voice had a hint of concern. James was unsure of what was wrong with Bailey. She had been out of the water for a while now but seemed to be having trouble to get her body temperature up to a normal temperature.

He helps his father fix and rebuild houses? That’s so cool! Bailey thought. That does explain why he was so muscular. He was definitely more muscular than most guys his age.@James Owens
After she asked if his wrote or drew and he had responded affirmatively, she said, “That’s so neat. I wish I could draw well or write. I have started a few short stories but I get a little bit in and then I just… lose my creative juices I guess.”
As she started to shiver again ( Bailey thoughtwhy does my hair have to be so thick and wet!?!?) she saw concern race across James’ face again. He truly was concerned for her, and that made her head race. Especially when he offered her his jacket again. “I’m fine. Bailey said “Water from my hair just is dripping down my back. I’ll be fine. I even know that there is a spell to dry my hair, but I left my wand in my dormitory. WHY did you decided to leave your wand in the dormitory??? Bailey inwardly berated herself. Making a mental note to NEVER EVER leave her wand in her room again, Bailey realized that she had never asked James if he was ok. um… she started I just realized I never asked you if you were ok. I mean, did you get hurt or anything while saving me? Bailey felt her concern flare across her face. It was written as clear as day she was sure.

James smiled at her compliment on him both writing and drawing. Bailey mentioned that she would only write short stories and then the creativity would just evaporate from her. James thought for a moment before giving his advice. "Maybe you should try writing one story at a time. Try making a plot pyramid to organize your thoughts and then write the story. You can always go back and add or remove something."
James often did this whenever he had trouble getting a story started. He also though it was odd that she referred to it as creative juices. What an odd way to refer to thought. James shrugged his shoulders slightly pushing the subject to the side.
Bailey had turned down the offer of his jacket. She told him she just had thick hair. James new a lot about hair from all the books he had read. Thick hair absorbed liquids and would hold them for quite some while. James didn't have to worry about that. His hair looked straight but whenever he got it wet and dried it after it was as fluffy as a cloud. Which was how it looked now since it had gotten wet back at the lake.
Bailey began to look worried and asked James if he had hurt himself while in the action of saving her. James shook his head. "I got a little wet when I carried you to the tree but that was all. I'm alright, thank you for asking"

James smiled at her complement about his drawing and writing. When she mentioned having writer’s block when she was halfway through writing something, he gave her some great advice, Maybe you should try writing one story at a time. Try making a plot pyramid to organize your thoughts and then write the story. You can always go back and add or remove something." To this Bailey agrees, adding “The hardest part of English for me was always writing. That was until my mom literally forced me to write outlines, and then it became SO much easier. I guess I just never though I should do the same thing for my creative writing.
After making sure that James was not hurt Thanks goodness he’s only a little wet. Bailey though to herself. If I had hurt someone raises myself because of my idiotic decision, I would feel so bad!.
As they approached the Hospital Wing, Bailey slowed. “Are you sure you want to come with me? You made sure I got here safe. You don’t have to wait for nurse Brumby to check me out. I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine.
He really doesn’t have to stay Bailey though. But I am 99.99% sure he’s going to offer to come. And I don’t think I’ll mind…

Bailey added the fact that the hardest part of english for her was writing. She then mentioned that her mom forced her to write outlines and it became easier after that. However, Bailey never thought to do the same for creative writing.
"Writing an outline for any kind of writing helps. Whether your writing an Essay, story, and many other forms of writing. It also helps if you write for a newspaper or write an article about something. Planning can also help you point out the key facts."
The began to come upon the Hospital wing. Bailey slowed from her brisk pace and asked if James was sure he wanted to come with her. She told him that he didn't have to wait for Nurse Brumby to check her out. She attempted to assure him that she would be fine.
James shook his head defiantly. "Nope, I am coming with you. I'll leave after we make sure your okay" James added an extra emphasis to the we in his sentence to tell her he will continue to stick by her side whether he needed to or not.
James opened the door into the Hospital wing. "After you" James did a slight bow as he put on his gentleman front.

When Bailey suggested to James that he could go after they got to the hospital wing and leave her with Nurse Brumby, he immediately shut that idea down by saying, “Nope, I am coming with you. I’ll leave you after we make sure you’re ok.”@James Owens
He emphasized the we to make sure she knew that he was not going to leave her side until he knew she was fine. In James’ defense Bailey though to herself You could have done the same thing.
Bailey caught herself just before going to open the door for James. She remembered just in time that he said that they should take turns going back-and-forth and that she had agreed. James opened the door for her. "After you" James did a slight bow as he put on his gentleman front.
As they walked into the hospital wing, Bailey looked around. There were two rows of beds lining the walls and above the beds there were large Diamond pictures windows that let in lots of sunlight. The minimal decor also led to the feeling of peace and tranquillity.
Looking around though, Bailey could not see nor hear any nurses or inturns. “Do you think anyone is even here?” Bailey asked James.
As they continued their search for Nurse Brumby or one of his assistants, Bailey mind wandered a little.
I wonder…. If James has any siblings? Or pets? I’ll have to remember to ask him later. “Look here! Bailey said. “I think I found Nurse Brumby’s desk! It was piled high with potions and bottles but a sign saying Free hugs all day every day was clearly visible. That would be nice Bailey thought. I would was for one now but I’m a little wet. Hopefully Nurse will be here soon so I can get into dry clothes.
As it was quite early in the morning still, Bailey decided that she should maybe call Nurse Brumby’s name since he was not at his usual spot at his desk. “UM… Nurse Brumby? Are you here? Is anyone here? she called softly.Word count: ≈ 340

James and Bailey entered the hospital wing. There were rows of beds lining both walls on either side. Above the beds were large diamond framed windows that let in a lot of natural light or sunlight as others called it. There was very little decor but the room smelled of fresh herbs (probably to make medicines).
The room gave James a nice feeling. Calmness and relaxation. He felt it was a safe space. It had to be because well it was the hospital wing. James came back to reality when Bailey asked him if he thought anyone was there. "I'm not sure actually. It is rather quiet though" James looked around.
Bailey seemed to have dazed out but quickly came too and called out telling James she had found Nurse Brumby's desk. There it was. No one was sitting there though. There were all sorts of potions and bottles stacked across the desk. James noticed the sign sitting on his desk.
Free hugs all day every day
James thought to himself. Really? Must be true if you have a sign for it. Bailey quietly called out for Nurse Brumby only to be met with silence. "Nurse Brumby! We could use a small bit of help here." James called out his voice slightly echoing throughout the empty room.
The quietness was broken when one of Nurse Brumby's assistant came out telling them that Nurse Brumby wasn't there at the moment. James nodded. The nurse assistant asked them what was wrong.

After they both called for Nurse Brumby, his assistant came out and told them he was not there at the moment. Then the assistant asked what was wrong. “I… just fell into the lake. I had the dumb decision to walk on the ice, and I made it maybe 20 feet out? And then the ice cracked. I heard it crack and I tried to get back to the shore. I think I only made it like 5 feet before I fell in. I caught a hold on a piece of ice and screamed for help. Then James here heard me and ran out to save me. He pulled me out and carried me to the bank. He just came here to make sure I was fine and I came because I am accident prone and just wanted to make sure I did not break anything. Pausing, Bailey looked up at the assistant. I really hope I did not break anything. Bailey worried. and I hope i don’t have a cold… if I do will I pass it on? I live in a dorm! I could get so many other people sick! Trying to control her worrying, Bailey looked around and then back at the assistant. Will I be ok? she asked worriedly. and also, is James ok? He only carried me out and he said he is fine, but I would hate to have hurt someone beside myself because of decision that I made that did not do well.@James Owens

James sat quietly as Bailey explained what happened at the lake. The assistant nurse only nodded while Bailey rambled on and took some notes
Well it sounds like you'll be alright, but I'll check you out just to be safe. Is anything sore?" The assistant nurse put a light pressure to Bailey's shoulders and sides. They gave her a towel to dry her hair. "Here. I can tell you're still cold.
James was checked out after but had no signs of soreness or bruises on his body. " James will be alright. He doesn't have any bruises" They reassured Bailey.
James sat down on an empty cot while the nurse assistant went to get Bailey some fresh clothes. They sat the clothes down on an empty cot. You can change if you'd like. The shirt may be a tad bit big though. But the pants should fit fine. There is also a pair of fuzzy socks if you want to change those as well."[/color] James' mind was racing over what had happened at the lake. He was trying to remember if Bailey had hit anything as she fell through the ice, but nothing came to mind. If anything it could have been her fingers from gripping the ice. However she could also be perfectly fine and just had shock from the coldness of the water.
