After falling and spraining her ankle last month, you'd think Gemima would have learned to stay away from trees. But no, here she was, staring up at an especially dense oak tree. The spring season had blessed it with a thick canopy of leaves, while other trees were still struggling with their buds. As Gemima hoisted herself up onto a branch, she silently thanked whomever had taken such good care of the tree.

Not a moment too soon! Just as Gem climbed to a moderately high branch, and made herself comfortable, the clouds opened up. The pitter patter, pitter patter of raindrops filled the air. The oak leaves thankfully soaked up much of the draught, with only a few bits of water sneaking their way into the young girl's hair every once in a while. But that was perfectly fine. Gem had lived through relentless coastal storms; this was nothing to her.

She actually hadn't brought a book today. Instead, she pulled out a small sketchpad from her bag. It had been a gift from Cath, who had actually found the time to stop her in the halls. The interaction didn't last long, as her sister zipped off to find her friends, but it was still a very sweet gesture. Gemima had begun to think that Cath had forgotten all about her. She rummaged around in her bag for the stick of graphite that she had found in the study room.

Gem sighed and touched the tip of the makeshift pencil to the paper. She began to sketch. At first, it was nothing in particular, since it had been a while since she tried her hand at art, but then she found a tangle of branches appearing on the paper. She smiled and continued enthusiastically. Still life was definitely a good place to start.

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

Keres had found themselves wondering onto the grounds again. Snapping out of their thoughts, the young student made their way to a small clearing by some oak trees. Opening a small journal, they began to write things down. Documenting the past few days they had enjoyed at school. Cursive Welsh handwriting quickly filled the page.

A few minutes later a small water droplet landed on the page. The brunette looked up at the sky as another droplet landed on their face. Closing the small journal and tucking it into their jacket, Keres sprinted towards the nearest tree. This one just so happened to have a person sitting in the branches above their head. Giving a goofy grin the Gryffindor gave a wave. "Hello, mighty fine weather we are having! May I join you in the tree? I'm Keres by the way." Wiping wet blue locks from their face. Blue eyes shining with excitement as the rain poured down around them. It was exhilarating to be outside when it started to rain like this. The drops falling quickly now. Their hair getting thoroughly soaked now as the young student wasn't standing fully underneath the safety of the tree's many leaved branches.

The villain will always be the villain if the hero tells the story

Suddenly, a cheerful voice rang out from below. Gemima paused and poked her head out from her perch to see who it was. She couldn't make out the person's face, but the first thing she noticed was their shock of bright blue hair. They waved up at her as the rain cascaded around their body. "May I join you in the tree?" They called out. "I'm Keres, by the way!"

Gem nodded and smiled. Oh, wait, they probably can't see that from here...
She stuffed her sketchbook back into her bag for the time being, and leaned out as far as she possbily could without losing her balance.
She waved back, and replied, "Of course you can! Here, climb up before you get all soaked. I can help if you need!" She didn't feel rattled in the least, like the last time someone interrupted her in a tree. She sighed happily to herself--that was progress, wasn't it? Instead of feeling nervous about a new person, she was actually excited to see who had happened upon her hideout.

On a second thought, she scooted down a couple of branches, and waited there in case this person needed help getting up. She knew that not everyone was adept at navigating their ways up trees.
