An (Unfortunate) Dip in the Lake
Waiting for interaction with @James Owen
Bailey woke up, startled. She had been having the most vivid dream and… and… she now could not remember what it was about! Deciding to go take a walk around the lake, Bailey got dressed. She slipped on her favorite pair of black leggings, a tee shirt, Ravenclaw sweater and her warm robe over the top. Putting on her boots, she quietly slipped out of her dormitory in Ravenclaw tower. As she headed to the front doors, Bailey caught a whiff of fresh bread and decided to make a pit stop in the Great Hall for some toast or maybe a doughnut if they had any. Finding a kolache, a Polish roll that could be either savory or sweet, she headed outside. With her Kolache in hand, Bailey strolled down towards the lake. It was truly a peaceful morning, with the birds cheeping and the wind whistling through the trees. As she wandered around the lake, her thoughts wandered also. it would be quite nice to have a Peaceful Mind Club meeting hereshe thought to herself. As she rounded the edge of the lake a was about to head back up to the castle, Bailey decided to stop and sit on the edge of the lake.Chucking some rocks at the frozen lake, Bailey though that it was probably thick enough to stand on and go a ways out onto. Rising to her feet, Bailey eased herself onto the ice. After she was about 15-20 feet off of the ice, Bailey heard a large CRACKing sound and she realized that it was coming from the ice under her feet!! Moving quickly towards the bank, she felt the ice go out from underneath her! Panicking for real now, she screamed, “HELP! I’m falling into the lake!!! and she hoped someone would hear her. As her fingers started losing their grip on the ice and she started to slip into the water more, she screamed again. HELP!!

James was a night owl as his mother used to call him whenever he came down to the breakfast table with bags under his eyes. It was true James would stay up all night reading books and writing small stories of his own. He preferred to sleep during the day when his parents were gone. This was another one of those kinds of nights. James had been reading for a while now and decided to take a break.
James got up from bed and grabbed his satchel and his notebook and a few pencils. Muggles used them to write instead of the quills and ink they used at Hogwarts. He grabbed a few erasers and quietly walked out of the dorm and through the common room.
He made his way through the halls and got outside. He figured he would go and sit by his tree he always sat at which was located near the Great Lake. As he made his way down he say a girl with blonde hair out on the ice. What was she doing? James watched her for a second. Then he heard the ice crack. The girl heard it too and tried to run back to the bank of the lake.
She didn't make it. The ice cracked under her and the lake swallowed her. She screamed for help and tried to pull herself out of the freezing lake. Her fingers were starting to lose grip and she cried out for help once more as she started to sink farther in.
James dropped his things and ran out onto the ice. A dangerous thing to do when it was already cracked but this girl needed help. He pulled her out of the freezing water. "It's okay! I've got you!" He carried her to a tree nearby giving her his jacket as he sat down with her. "Are you alright? He was concerned about the poor girl. She was soaking wet with the icy water.

Bailey was slipping farther and farther into the icy, cold water. As she, inch by inch, got father into the water, she felt her legs and feet going numb. Then she saw a lean, muscular boy with wavy brown hair sprinting towards her. He carefully lowered himself onto the ice and came to pull her out. He carried her to the bank, and he set her down next to a tree.
As she shivered, the boy draped his jacket over her shoulders. He asked, “Are you alright?” She answered quietly, “yes. Thank you.”As she had a chance to look at him further, she decided that he was probably a first or second year. Probably a first year, since she did not remember him at her sorting. He was lean and tall, and had beautiful light brown eyes.
Once her teeth quit chattering, she said, “Thank you so much”Bailey said again. You just save my life.”
As she waited for a response, she noticed how pretty his eyes were. They were really stunning; they went perfectly with his white skin. Before he had a chance to respond, and without thinking about what she’s going to say, Bailey said, You know, your eyes are really beautiful. They…. As she realized what she had just said, Bailey dropped her gaze to her boots. She blushed so hard, she was pretty sure he could see her ears burning. ”Sorry… Bailey muttered. Sometimes I speak without thinking. Anyways, they really are pretty.

The girl thanked James for helping her. James nodded "You're welcome. You're lucky I was out here. She studied James for a bit more as he sat down next to her. She was still shivering. James unbuttoned his sweater and placed it around her as well. James still had a t-shirt on underneath. He always wore layers. You never new what could happen. The girl mentioned that he saved her life and he smiled his cheeks becoming a dusty pink .
Before James had the chance to respond she complimented his eyes. James had never been complimented before. This deepened the color in his cheeks slightly causing his smile to widen a bit. The girl was about to continue but paused. She quickly looked to her boots as her she blushed profusely.
She apologized and mentioned that she doesn't always think before she speaks. She complimented his eyes once more before falling silent. "It's alright, you don't have to keep thanking me. I'm just glad that you're okay. And you don't need to apologize. Alright?" James lifted her face up by her chin making eye contact with her. "There's no reason for you to be embarrassed or anything either. You've got really pretty eyes as well.
James smiled at her as his face returned back to it's normal pale color. He looked at the girl studying her for a moment. She was really quite beautiful. He wasn't sure how much older she was or even if she was older. James remembered something Oh! I haven't introduced myself. You probably think i'm just some random boy who saved you from the lake. I'm James, first year hufflepuff" He was about to reach out for a handshake but then realized the girl was freezing. No need to make her move. "How about we get you back inside. Hm?"

As she fell silent, the boy began to speak. He said, “ “ It's alright, you don't have to keep thanking me. I'm just glad that you're okay. And you don't need to apologize. Alright?" He lifted her chin up so she had to look at him, and he smiled.@James Owens
After a pause, and suddenly remembered to introduce himself. He said “ Oh! I haven't introduced myself. You probably think i'm just some random boy who saved you from the lake. I'm James, first year Hufflepuff.”
Nodding, Bailey started to get up, just as James said, probably because she was still shivering, even though he had given her his jacket. How about we get you back inside. Hm?”
Standing up and brushing off some dirt, Bailey handed James back his jacket. Thank you so much for lending me your jacket.” she said. Continuing, she said Ya… going inside is a good idea. I think I might go to the Hospital wing to make sure I didn’t hurt anything to badly.
As they walked up the the castle, Bailey saw a notebook and some muggle pencils that had fallen out of a bag. Realizing that the bag was probably James’ and that he had dropped his stuff to come help her, she rushed over to pick it up. Handing the bag to James, she said “Sorry for ruining your morning. I know this is Not what you had planned for your morning.

The girl nodded and stood up brushing the dirt off of herself. James stood and did the same. She handed James his jacket back and thanked him again. She continued to mention that it sounded like a good idea to head back inside and that she would go to the Hospital wing to make sure she didn't hurt herself too seriously. "I could come with you, if you'd like that is. If not I can just go back to my dorm."
They began to walk up to the castle and came across sight of James' satchel lying on the ground open where he had dropped it. His notebook and pencils had fallen out. The girl rushed to grab his things and handed them to him. She apologized thinking she had ruined his morning.
James sighed as he took his things. "It's alright. You don't have to keep apologizing for everything. You didn't ruin my morning. If anything you made it better. It's not every day a guy gets to save a beautiful girl from the lake. He smiled towards her.
He slid his satchel over his neck and continued to walk with the girl to the castle. "By the way, I don't think I caught your name. If I may ask what is your name?" James looked at her and slid his jacket over his arm.

As they were heading back towards the castle, James offered to come to the Hospital wing with her. “Ya… that would be awesome! Thank you so much for offering. That really means a lot to me. ” Bailey agreed. Then, gathering James’ things (it was the least she could do) she handed them back to him. As she was doing so, he sighed. Bailey instantly was worried. Had I done something wrong? she wondered to herself. Then James began to speak. He truly had a soothing voice too. It’s alright. he said. You don’t need to keep apologizing for everything. You didn’t ruin my morning. If anything, you made it better. It’s not every day a guy gets to save a beautiful girl from the lake . Then he smiled at her. She blushed again.
He continued By the way, I don’t think I caught your name. If I may ask what is your name?
”Oh yes. Sorry. My name is Bailey. Bailey Glade. I’m a second year and I’m in Ravenclaw. Bailey paused for a beat. You said you are in Hufflepuff, right? That’s cool.
Bailey then lapsed into silence as they continued up towards the castle. As the reached the front doors, she reached out and held the door open for James. She knew that traditionally, that’s what boys were supposed to do for girls, but due to her being in the martial arts she had been trained to be polite. She really didn’t think about it at the time.word count: ≈ 260

The girl exclaimed being grateful that James had offered to come with her to the hospital wing. The girl then looked worried after James sighed. However her facial expression was quickly replaced with a blush as he called her beautiful.
The girl apologized after James mentioned not knowing her name. It was Bailey Glade. She was a second year Ravenclaw. How interesting. "Pretty name for a pretty girl...My apologies i've been complimenting you a lot." James shook his head displeased with his actions. Don't compliment her too much. It'll make he uncomfortable James scolded himself in his head.
James nodded in response to her question. "Correct, I am a hufflepuff." They had made it up to the castle. Bailey hurried ahead and opened the door before James could do so. She held it open allowing him to go first. What an odd thing to do. Maybe it is just how she was raised. Her parents or someone else probably taught her that girls could hold the door open just like boys could. James thought to himself before walking through the door. I mean girls can do anything boys can do. James waited for Bailey to come through the door before continuing on to the hospital wing. "Next time, I'll get the door. We can take turns"
