2022, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs. Slytherin: Match 4

Perhaps is was the praise from Illowy, perhaps a growing need to prove herself, or maybe just sheer dumb luck that caused Starlee's next spell to make a clean impact. Not only was her aim completely on target, but it was extremely well cast, causing the Gryffindor's wand to fly clear across the piste. "HA!" she half-yelled, unable to control her excitability. One less person attacking was one less thing to worry about.

In all her glory, she had clearly forgotten that dodging was an essential part of dueling. She didn't stand a chance against the two opponents as they shot their spells at her, a flipendo and incendio duo combo, same as her and Illowy had been doing earlier. She certainly couldn't be mad about that, as much as she wanted to be. As soon as the prior flames fizzled out, she was yet again on fire, gritting her teeth against the pain.

The tides had turned and Katrina was downright joyous. Both her and her partners spells hit their mark, increasing their chances of winning significantly.

Katrina wand went shooting out of her hand again and Katrina sent a look at her opponent. “Again?” Adeline joked at Katrina, and Katrina couldn’t help a laugh, “I’m starting to think that might be our best option next time”

Round 9

It was now time for the Slytherins to play defensively. Starlee successfully extinguished herself, and Illowy offered the younger girl some assistance with Reparifors. Katrina was off searching for her wand, presently finding no luck but perhaps further persistence would offer some solace. Adeline, for her part, sought to bring an end to Starlee's dueling experience this stage and further her team's sudden advance, but her Flipendo missed its mark.

Spectator Thread

Now was the time to start getting defensive. She nodded back at Illowy, her teeth still grinding together in an attempt to ignore the pain. After both of the well aimed attacks on her last round, Starlee wasn't sure how much more she could take. She could still feel where she had been burned, where she was now burning yet again, and her vision was blurring, coming ever closer to the verge of passing out.

Despite the pain, she was able to masterfully extinguish the flames licking up the sides of her robes, stopping the burning sensation, and Illowy sent over some relief in the form of a healing spell. Her vison began to focus once again, and she was able to easily dodge the Gryffindor's oncoming attack.

She took a sigh of literal relief as she was no longer in pain, and was certainly still in the fight. Stay on our feet indeed.

Adeline frowned as her spell missed and she saw her opponent, who had looked to be on her last leg, be restored by a healing spell from her teammate. She and Katrina were so close and yet so far as the playing field seemed to level out a bit once again.

"You got it?" she asked her partner, who was still searching for her wand. This could be a crucial moment for the duel, and they needed to go full force if they wanted to win.

Katrinas wand was in sight but she couldn’t quite get to it in time. It was infuriated to be without a wand. You couldn’t do much to win a duel without one.

Adeline shot her a question, “Almost…” Katrina said, the wand still out of reach. This was the last time she wanted to be without a wand. Especially at such a pivotal time of their duel.

Round 10

Katrina found her wand, read to reenter the duel in these last few moments. Adeline once again found little luck, her Wingardium Leviosa failing to hit her target. For the Slytherins, it was a similarly mixed bag. Illowy's Flipendo was masterful and undoubtedly powerful, but it seemed Adeline had enough self-preservation instincts to avoid it. Starlee had more luck, setting the young Gryffindor alight with flames that would likely last the rest of the bout if Adeline and Katrina opted to not address them.

Spectator Thread

She wasn't totally sure what she had expected this round. Sure, it was another extreme offensive attempt from the snakes, with only Starlee's spell managing to hit its target, but with Walker incapacitated still from an expert spell from Starlee, she hadn't known what Hughes would do. At least Starlee had managed to send out a rather powerful bout of Incendio Duo, longer lasting, hopefully causing some unsurety from the lions.

She was, however, beginning to get a bit concerned with Illowy. She felt like she had only ever seen her aim be completely true, but perhaps that was because the last duel she recalled had been against two other second years with much less experience. But then again, she was aiming at a second year, so why was she still missing? She was able to dodge the second year's spell at least, so that was something.

This duel was too close for comfort, and Starlee knew there wasn't much time left. She raised her wand, took a deep breath, and continued to push forward.
