March Showers...? FINISHED

Ross had promised himself his third year would be full of adventure and joy, just as his prior years at Hogwarts had been; however, Ross had stood corrected. While the year had gone just as planned, that soon became the issue. Ross could expect everything to come. Sure he still fumbled around and forgot his books when it came to classes, but he had a schedule. A SCHEDULE! While for most people that could be the best possible outcome, for Ross it felt like a nightmare.

He had not realized he had fallen into a routine at first. It originally just consisted of him attending his regular classes every day, and then he promised himself he would begin working on charms again the next day or exploring the castle the next week; however, soon 'the next day' became 'the next week' and 'the next week' became 'the next month'. Whenever Ross tried to explore the castle, he would only find nooks and crannies he had already discovered on his own in his prior years.

Ross hated to admit it, but his routine had turned grey. His days were the color beige. How could such boredom be so exhausting? Surely there had to be a cure for such a thing?

It was not until he eavesdropped on two first-year Hufflepuffs in his common room that sparks began to go off in his brain, forming an idea that should certainly not exist in any sane man's mind.

"Imagine going out in this weather." One first-year laughed, referring to the dreary skies and the heavy downpour of rain that had been haunting the castle all afternoon.
"You'd have to be a maniac to do that!" The other replied, giggling as they imagined the sight of someone out in that weather.

"Yeah, you'd 'aught to be a maniac to do that," Ross mumbled to himself. "You'd end up soaking and all covered up in mud and junk."

Ross continued to write in his journal before immediately freezing. Anyone who went outside would have to be Crazy! This could be his big break! Finally, a cure from the constant flavor of stale, cold Mcdonald's fries in his mouth! Ross rushed to his small little nook of a dorm room and pulled his mustard yellow rain jacket over his greasy, brown hair. At least maybe this adventure would count as half a shower for him. He kept on his normal black sneakers before darting out of his dormitory and up the steps, all the way until he almost made it to the grounds.

And he stopped before he made it outside.

Why did he hesitate? He would never have hesitated before! He was the great detective Ross Stephens! Well, at least he used to be... when had been the last time he solved a mystery? No matter, there were surely more mysteries to come! This was the beginning of a new adventure. He gripped onto his wand as he considered whether or not to cast the umbrella charm, but his id quickly took over.

"Screw it!" he screamed to what he assumed was nobody as he ran into the rain.

It poured down hard, soaking his poor unprotected socks and shoes. Wet socks are a form of torture. I'll have to write that down! he thought to himself. He could barely see as the rain dripped down from his raincoat hood onto his glasses. He put his long fingers onto his hood, feeling the rain trickle down the sleeves of his raincoat, before throwing the hood off and allowing the rain to take over his hair too, soaking it to the point it was just a mop on his head.

Ross could not help but smile. It was cold, it was uncomfortable, but he was alive! He ran over to a particularly soaked patch of grass and jumped on it, only to slip and fall onto his back right into a mud puddle.

Gross, now you're gonna have to clean yourself up! he thought to himself; however, that was not what the rest of his body was saying. He was laughing. Genuinely, truly laughing. His heart was racing and he was covered in mud, yet he wasn't getting up as the rain bounced off his glasses.

"MUD IS SLIPPERY! I'M THE BEST DETECTIVE IN THE WORLD!"
he screamed to the sky.

@Ross Stephens

Willa, although enjoying Hogwarts, was still dealing with the pain and anxiety of her muggle life. Flashbacks snapped into her mind in the middle of nowhere sometimes-- planes, soldiers, anything her brain remembered. There was the sweet and the bittersweet. She drifted through her classes, and so far, even after months at Hogwarts, the only words of conversation she had said were in her dormitory with a third-year, staring at the stars, telling stories. She felt out of place here, but also out in the world. She was simply lost.

She had stopped playing her harmonica-- she didn't want anyone to hear it in the rehearsal room, where kids would often be playing songs together. She was too shy to join in. She felt so angry inside with no way to let it out, no way to escape. She wanted to scream to every little nobody near her, but it would just get her into trouble. She didn't know what to do.

She had been staring at the enchanted ceiling of wonder in her dormitory, but she was quickly bored. The only people in the room were some chatty girls who were gossiping about some hot boy who had asked some pretty girl out. She twisted and turned, trying to get away from her thoughts. She climbed down the bunks and ventured over to a window overlooking the grounds.

Her face puzzled at the sight of a screaming Hufflepuff, looking like a lunatic in the rain, laughing and rolling around. He was a third-year she had never seen before. He wore a mustard-yellow raincoat. She saw a bit of herself in him.

He looked... alive. He ran through the rain, laughing, enjoying the rain. He sloshed in the mud, he jumped up and downed, he spun. She was amazed.

Suddenly, something came over her. A fast-spreading burst of energy, wanting to be let out. Her mind seemed to go on autopilot, and only her body was working. She clumsily reached for her old, scuffed raincoat and threw it on. She ran through the dorm and to the grounds faster than she had ever run before, her red hair flowing behind her. She didn't breathe, or think-- she had to get there.

She sped onto the grounds and threw herself into the rain. A cold laugh escaped her as she let her hood down and felt the rain slice through her face. It felt good. Not good- great. She joined the boy, screaming and laughing and sloshing in the mud for all to hear.

"THE RAIN IS WONDERFUL! I'M FREE!", she screamed, piercing through the air. She laughed, a genuine laugh that she wished would last forever.

She glanced at the boy as they screamed into the rain together.

The sound of harsh rain and the sloshing of rain conquered his ears. The feeling of the slick mud all over his hands and dirt under his nails. The realization that this mud would never wash out of his hair, but the beauty of not caring about it at the moment. This was what being a dumb teen boy was supposed to be all about!

It was about making mistakes and about living. For the first time in months, he was one with his own thoughts, but he began to slowly be awakened from his waking dream. At first, it was the patter of soggy footsteps against the soaking grass. He had assumed it was just the rain and had ignored them, but no detective could ignore a new intake of information.

Then it was the squeals. The high-pitched squeals of what sounded like a young girl. While his mind was racing, his heart was still thumping and he could not stop himself from rolling in the mud as he processed.

What truly made him wake up from his thoughts was the sudden sound of a SPLASH in the mud puddle he was in. The mud got all over his already soaking face and glasses. Ross laughed, continuing to roll and roll until it dawned upon him something had to have made that impact.

He used his hands to push himself up so that he was sitting, his voice now hoarse from the laughing and his body shivering from the cold of the rain. The cold stung. It stung in such a lovely way. It reminded him his body could feel. It was such a strong contrast to the many times he had managed to set himself on fire. This was produced by nature and it stung in such a lovely way.

He took off his glasses wiped the mud off his glasses with the sleeve of his raincoat, causing the lenses to just look brown and smuged. Everything looked fuzzy, but the rain was still gorgeous. He put his glasses back on, the rain doing a better job at cleaning his glasses than he did. He glanced to his side. There was a girl with stunning grey eyes staring right back at him, still seeming to be having the time of her life.

Apparently I'm not the only maniac who would go outside in this weather he thought to himself.

He still had that stupid grin on his face that screamed he had far too many thoughts to even say one, and while there were a million thoughts racing through his head he managed to say the least comprehensible. He stuck his hand in the mud and clenched down, grabbing a gigantic blob of soaking dirt before offering a hand to the young girl as if introducing himself.

"You're not NEARLY filthy enough to be out here right now. We 'aught to change that! The name is Ross Stephen, at your service." he practically screamed through the pouring rain, his hoarse voice cracking in the process, as it was near impossible to hear through the harsh drops of water crashing against the ground.

She felt alive, the same feeling the boy seemed to be feeling. She kept laughing, screaming into the rain. It seemed the more she laughed, the more it rained. She slid around in the mud, not caring whether she would be able to wash it out or not. She gazed upwards, at the clouds above giving her all this rain. She didn't care about anything, at least for this moment. Not if any students were watching her, not if she was stopped by a student or professor-- she just kept going.

She splashed some mud, not paying attention to where she was splashing, into the direction of the boy. He looked a bit surprised, but he was still grinning as if he was in a dream and she was too. The cold bit into her bones, but she didn't care. Not anymore. She had never been this alive. She felt she could breathe.

The boy had a pair of round glasses, and they were covered in mud. He seemed to try wiping them off, although it didn't help him much. She was still now, for a moment, staring at the boy as he now stared back.

He dug his hand into the mud before holding it out for her. In return, she dug hers into the mud as well, taking it and grasping it clumsily, still taken aback by what had happened.

"Willa Moon. Do you want to stay out here for a little while longer? I wouldn't object-- this is the most fun I've ever had! I never want this rain to stop!", she yelled back. The wind was strong, the rain a continuous roar that drummed in her ears.

They both looked like muddy, wet aliens, out there, screaming at each other. She chucked a glob of mud at him playfully, grinning from ear to ear.

Another rainy day. These were her least favorite days of the school year- she couldn't go outside and play. What was so interesting about sitting inside all day anyways? She didn't understand the concept of doing nothing. But she wasn't doing nothing. What she was doing is very much something. Curled up in an over sized sweater, she held a bowl of mushroom soup on the night stand (which the house elves had happily provided) while gazing out the window.
The other kids in her common room were scurrying in and out, searching for warm socks or rain boots. "Kelly did your ferret take my sock agAin?"
"Well I don't know- I don't control Poppy." She shrugged her shoulders while wiping soup from her face with bare hands. She enjoyed the games her pet played, always messing with people. She tossed a mushroom at Poppy, who happily munched on it before going to scout for more things to steal.

She turned her direction back out the window. What in the heck? She squinted her eyes at a figure in the rain. "is that- a person? Holy jelly bean, are they laying on the ground?!" concern was on her face as she looked at the figure. She quickly grasped her boots and rain coat. She clipped the buttons of her rain jacket together and grabbed her froggy bucket hat. She rain out the door and into the rain towards the boy on the ground.

The loud laughter and shouting reached her ears and she slowed her pace. "what-" She heard him shouting about how mud was wet- how he was the best detective in the world. She shoved her coat tighter and made it closer. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Her question was serious, she seriously was asking the kid if he was mentally okay. Usually laughing and screaming alone in the rain was a sign of insanity. Then.. there was another girl. She wanted to join them, seriously. But they were definitely going to be sick. She hated having to be the responsible one.

ordering the
screamers inside

[quote]It was perhaps the most miserable day since the Christmas holidays, but while that misery had come from within Lucia, now it came from outside. Specifically, the clouds, which were hard at work making everyone in Hogwarts wish they'd stayed at home. While the castle was magically heated, no magic could stop wind rushing through the stone corridors from the wide-open archways, which left most of Hogwarts essentially open to the elements. Lucia herself had taken refuge in the Small Hall, curled up next to the fireplace with a book, trying to ignore a portrait occupant who thought it was funny to keep asking her how her book was. Finally, she couldn't stand it - it being just about everything, including the book, which wasn't nearly as good as the blurb had promised - and jumped up, dropping the book on the ground. "Will you just-" Suddenly, Lucia found her gaze drawn towards the window. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was fate, maybe it was just the shrieking she could just about make out through the irregular drumbeat of rain on glass, but the Hufflepuff could see- people. Out there, in the rain. No sane person would go out there in such weather. Something was... wrong. And Lucia was fairly sure that, if she didn't go and find out, nobody would.

Two steps towards the door and she was already regretting her descision to investigate, but one whispered "Pluvia velo," and it was too late to turn back. She was already wearing her coat. At this rate, her hair would get wet whatever she did. And so, Lucia pushed her way through the wind towards three students, two of which were pretty covered in mud. Ew. Lucia angled her magical umbrella so as to shield at least her head from the storm as she forced her legs forward. "I hate storms." The words were instantly lost to the wind, reminding Lucia of the last time she'd been out in a storm, at the 2021 Samhain Ball. That night had ended terribly, and she suspected this wouldn't go very well either. Finally, she drew close enough to the others that she could hear what they were saying - well, shouting. She couldn't make out their faces in this weather, but she was sure that at least two of them looked younger than her. "YOU'VE GOT TO GO BACK INSIDE." Lucia supposed it was up to the Hufflepuff to take some action here. "YOU'RE GOING TO END UP IN THE HOSPITAL WING AT THIS RATE."

She glanced at Ross, who looked equally disappointed. Her teeth were chattering, and every bone in her body was chilled through, but she barely noticed. Ross had a crazy look in his eye, and she suspected she had the same. She laughed maniacally yet again, gasping for breath. Two girls were staring at them, looking at them like they were complete lunatics. Maybe they were.

"We're finally alive. WE'RE ALIVE!", she yelled into the rain, feeling a burst of pure insanity.

She stared at the girls, who seemed confused. She couldn't leave. She didn't want to. She looked at the clouds, beautiful and elegant, looming above. More rain poured down. She ran her hands through her muddy hair, pure joy coursing through her. She had always been so sad, so angry, so bottled up, but now it was flowing out of her.

Ross lay in the mud still. She felt herself growing weak, feeling dizzy. She didn't want to go back to the world where she cries herself to sleep, to the world where she's nothing but flaws. She felt tears rolling down her cheeks, realizing she wouldn't be here much longer before she was forced inside.

She was dizzy and seeing double, and she felt about to collapse. From the looks of Ross, he felt the same.

She plopped onto the ground next to him, staring at the clouds. She knew she would drift out of consciousness in a minute or so.

"Willa Moon? That's a pretty c-" he was cut off as a glob of wet, disgusting mud made direct impact with his face, getting into his mouth. Ross spit out the mud and found himself still laughing.

There was no way she had meant to do that but it made it all of the more hilarious. In return, he took a big chunk of mud and threw it right at her as well in a playful attempt at some form of a messed-up snowball fight. Mudball fight? He wasn't sure. Maybe this could be the next Hogwarts sport! He could see it now!

He snickered as the mud got on her. This was the time of his life. Every single part of him was covered in water and dirt. His feet were so freezing and soggy in his socks he was certain this was what soldiers in world war 1 felt when they developed trench foot, yet he paid no mind to it. All he was focused on was he was in the rain, and there was one other person who was with him.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING? ARE YOU CRAZY?!"

"YOU'VE GOT TO GO BACK INSIDE." "YOU'RE GOING TO END UP IN THE HOSPITAL WING AT THIS RATE."

Sudden voices pierced through the rain, though they sounded blurry to him. Was that one person who was screaming? Was it two? He looked towards the sound of the voices, barely being able to make out the forms that stood in front of them. Or were they far away? He could barely tell. They could be dementors for all he knew.

Before he could open his mouth to reply, Willa already did for him. He was fairly certain he must have connected brain cells with her, as that was almost exactly what he was going to say.

"Yeah! We're alive! I think. I can't really feel my foot" he laughed to himself, touching his foot as if to prove it. "Did you guys know mud is slippery? I feel like a toad!"

He gestured for them to join the two of them, but as he looked to his side Willa was just a lump on the ground. Man, she doesn't look nearly as alive as she says she is! he thought to himself.

He fell backward into the mud, causing a huge splash. Well, of course she wasn't feeling alive. This mud was cozy!

"C'mon guys." he mumbled "You 'aught to check it out!" he yelled as his eyelids began to feel heavy. The cold was really comforting.

"Yes, yes. Wah she said. You guys will get Hipo - hypo-heepo- hi --- you'll get sick. She fixed her rain coat and gazed at the younger student who she assumed was a firstie. The cold was definitely getting to their heads. Juniper took off her rain coat and wrapped it around the younger girl. "Pluvia Velo!" the rain just above them stopped pouring on them as if an invisible umbrella had formed. She scrunched her nose in concern at the boy and girl. She got on her knees and took off her oversized sweater she had on under her rain coat. She wrapped it around the boy in the mud and nodded. "I'm sure it's super fun! " She grabbed the boys arms and pulled ,slipping in the mud and falling on her bum. "OW!" She rubbed her back and got up.

She was SERIOUSLY worried about the state of these kids. The girl toppled over and fell to the ground, struggling to grasp consciousness in the rain. She was losing her consciousness and maybe her sanity too. The boy? Juni was sure his chance of sanity was long gone.

The only option she had was carrying the younger girl inside. Juniper didn't wrestle her younger brother all the time for nothing. "I'm okay. I'm okay. Let's go inside guys, I'm sure the house believes would love to give you some hot cocoa! Yum!" She gave a large false smile and tried to act like a friend and not a stranger. Who knows what a delusional kid would do to strangers. She reached over to the girl and scooped her up. She wobbled a little but gained her balance.

levitating
Ross

The two screamers ignored her pleas, as well as those from the other girl. In fact, they fell onto the muddy ground, causing Lucia to wince in sympathy for their clothes, which surely would now have stains that probably would take a lot to remove. They even tried to get the only two apparently sane people here to join them! "No." It was one word, but it was a firm one, and Lucia had no idea what else she was supposed to say. It was obvious that these two were beyond reason, and with the other girl helping the younger of the pair, it was up to Lucia to get the boy inside.

"Are you going to get up or am I going to have to levitate you?" There was no way that Lucia could lift him, and she wasn't just going to leave him out here. She'd only been outside for a minute or so and was already shivering, the cold seeping through her clothes along with the rain. Her makeup was no longer where it was supposed to be and her hair had tied itself into a million little knots, but she still looked far better than this boy on the floor. A moment, and Lucia realised that there was no way he was going to get up by himself. He seemed delirious, in no state of mind to do anything of use. "Fine. Wingardium Leviosa." With a swish-and-flick of her wand, Lucia magically pulled the boy off the ground, his head lolling downwards, his hair just scraping the mud below. She couldn't do anything about that, though: all she was really levitating was his clothes, and his head just wasn't supported. Already missing the umbrella she had sacrificed, Lucia shielded her eyes against the storm with her free hand and called over to the girl carrying the other girl, "We need to get them inside quick! And us!"
