It wasn't a good day at all.

Felix turned and marched from his dormitory, letting the door bounce off the wall and slam behind him with the completely unnecessary amount of force he used to close it. He ignored the way the first year students in the hallway yelped and jumped out of the way he passed - he'd long gotten used to the perks of being unapproachable, exactly how he damn liked it. He looked just about as friendly as a wolf who’d been starving for three consecutive days. His tall stature and consistent loathsome expression only added to this. Despite his foul attitude, Felix was patently handsome. He strode round the corner, pushing past people a little too aggressively, before taking the stairs up to the second floor two at a time. The corridors were draughty; currents of unpleasantly cold air blowing through it. However, outside looked distinctively different. The sky seemed to have cleared, and the grass was greener than Felix had seen it in a few months. Great. Spring was coming. Fuck winter- it sucked big time.

He was striding through the corridor, his head still turned towards the pretty view beyond the window, when he collided with something hard and solid. The impact wasn't enough to send him flying backwards, but seemed to catch his left shoulder and chest. That would leave a small bruise. He heard the sound of books and parchment falling, and pain erupted at his feet. Felix stepped back with a yelp, before letting out a string of brilliant cuss words. His face turned towards the ground, he had not seen who had collided with him. His gaze was focused on the stack of books that lay in a crumpled heap in front of his feet. Who the fuck was dropping books on his feet and shoving him in the chest in the middle of the hallways? Could they not see where they were going?

Another successful library run! Gemima had headed straight for her sanctuary of tomes, as per usual. Now, she was walking briskly down the hallway with a stack of three books in her arms. Two more sat in her school bag. The corridors were moderately full, with students from different years and houses all going about their business. Not that Gemima gave them much notice. She was far too focused on which book she was going to read first once she got back to her dorm room.
Then there's that Charms assignment due next week! Oh, and I should stop by the study room to restock on ink and parchment...

Gem wove through the crowd, thoughts still whirring through her head like the students moving throughout the hallways. "Whoa!" she gasped, just barely missing crashing into a group of fellow first years. They made quite a commotion in return, and she was bombarded with a fair amount of well deserved dirty looks. She derailed her train of thought just long enough to give them an apologetic smile before she was off again.

That was close... I could have dropped all my things, and how pleasant would that be? Gem slipped back into her one track mind, turned on her heel, and continued merrily on her way--
Wham! She suddenly slammed into something solid. Her books clattered onto the floor, and she was vaguely aware of someone cursing furiously before she followed suit. Head spinning, she went to pick up her books, only to see that most of them had landed upon someone's...feet? Dread quietly settled into the back of her throat. She slowly raised her head. Her eyes traveled up a pair of lean legs dressed in uniform slacks, then finally landed on the face of a boy. And he looked pissed.

He couldn't have been much older than her, and he was dressed in neat-pressed Hufflepuff robes. He carried himself with a proud, yet haughty grace. The boy would have been nice to look at, if he weren't so angry. Gemima sucked in a deep breath and picked herself up off the floor, then scrambled to remove the books from his shoes. All the blood in her body seemed to be rushing to her cheeks.
"Oh Merlin, I'm so, so sorry!" she squeaked. She snatched up the last book from the floor and carefully secured them in her bag. "Sorry," she repeated, avoiding his gaze. "I hope you aren't badly hurt."

He really needed a bulletproof vest.

It seemed that every time he encountered a new face in this school, it had to be through an injury. Maybe a some type of sword or baseball bat would work too, then he could just smack anyone who tried to come near him with it.

Felix's mouth opened to say something very offensive, however, he was interrupted by a flustered-sounding, rushed spill of words.

"Oh, Merlin, I'm so, so sorry!"

He snapped his head to properly look at the culprit. Well, she was pretty. Felix watched as she picked herself up off the floor. [He did not intend to help her] and as she scrambled for the fallen books and shoved them into her bag. He found that all his foul accusations had tumbled right down to the back of his throat and had been forgotten.

"I hope you aren't badly hurt."

Felix paused before smirking, leaning down to level her height. A little fun wouldn't hurt.

"Ahhh, I don't know... my foot really does hurt.." He faked a wince as he shuffled on the spot. Oscar-like acting skills, check. "...in fact, I don't even know if I will be able to walk. Look what you've done."

His barely concealed smirk could suffice as a pained grimace as he stepped towards her and placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. A swift glance at her robes, and he noted the fact that she was a ravenclaw. He leaned forward, unflinching at the fact that his face was in dangerously close proximity to hers. He would not blame her if she leaned back on reflex, his stare was literally piercing into her soul.

Sighing, his eyes still locked on her visage, he swept his bag off his shoulder and grabbed her arm. Whether she would resist, he did not know. Nevertheless, he hooked his bag onto her shoulder and secured the strap almost carefully before leaning back with a satisfied and rather charming expression blooming across his pretty features.

"There. You can carry that for me, I was just on my way to the library. I can't carry it on my own. my poor foot is hurting too much from your clumsy fall." The two things did not correlate at all, but he hardly cared what the girl thought of him or his excuse. There was no doubt she had just come from the library and was on her way back. That made it even better. Without another word he made to pass her, motioning carelessly for her to follow. "Hurry. I haven't got all day."

The boy honestly looked like he was about to cuss Gemima out, but as she apologized, his expression changed to something else. He bent down, (was he smirking?) and leaned in uncomfortably close to her face. Her first instinct was to jerk back, but she held her resolve and stared boldly back at him. The boy studied her curiously for a moment, then winced and stumbled a bit on his foot.
"...I don't even know if I will be able to walk. Look what you've done." he complained. Gemima squinted at him suspiciously. She opened her mouth to speak, but then he clapped a hand on her arm. "What--"

The boy suddenly took his own bag off his arm, and flung it over her shoulder in one quick, smooth motion. Gemima was too confused to protest. He tightened the strap down to her size, which would have been sweet, if he didn't have such a sickening, smug look on his face. He pulled back and turned on his heel to walk away, saying,
"You can carry that for me, I was just on my way to the library." There was a poorly concealed teasing lilt to his voice. He passed her with ease. "Hurry. I haven't got all day."

Gemima stood there for a half second, open mouthed. Some injured foot! All the sympathy and guilt she might have felt in that moment flew straight out of the window. She huffed and ran after him, her legs working double time to match his long strides. The nerve of this guy! He probably knew quite well that she had just left the library. Gem didn't know why he was messing with her, but she had more important things to deal with today. She finally caught up with him and planted herself right in his path.

"Excuse me!" she retorted. "I really am sorry for bumping into you. But I'm not a servant. And I'm definitely not gonna carry your stuff for you." Her voice was still shaky, but she tried her best to make it sound firm. Gemima slid the bag off her shoulder and thrust it into the boy's chest. She sniffed in annoyance and tightened her own bag's strap. Then she stalked off, still red-faced, but for a different reason now. "Really..!"

Felix’s long legs were proving to be much of an advantage. He almost swaggered down the hall away from her, ignoring the pattering of footsteps catching up to him. He was, however, caught off-guard by the nerve of the girl to step foot in his pathway and nearly send him crashing into her. How ironic. He stopped himself just in time, only to find they were now the same relatively small distance apart they had been a few seconds ago. His shoes were toe to toe with hers. He let his initial surprise succumb to a wry smile again, however before he could utter a snarky comment, she shoved his bag at his chest with an indignant exclamation and turned on her heel. Well, wasn't she interesting?

Slinging his bag over his shoulder again, he turned to look after her. He hadn't quite missed the shakiness behind her firm confrontation, however, her boldness intrigued him. He found his curious mind egging him to go on and follow her, tease her some more. He gave her about 5 seconds before striding up to catch her, falling short a few paces behind and watching the back of her head as though he planned to shove dung bombs into it. The nerve of her to toss his bag at him and leave! Although he supposed he had started it. He found that he'd accidentally forgotten all about his 'injury'. People rarely stood up to Felix so boldly. That made this encounter so much more interesting. He watched her fingers fasten her bag tighter on her shoulder, and at that moment, he decided to do something so boyish and undoubtedly childish, something his mother definitely would not approve of.

He lurched forward and stepped on the back of her shoe, intending to make it slip off. Simultaneously, he extended his hand to tug at a lock of her hair. That would pull her back. If she wouldn't speak to him, he’d have to find other ways to get her attention. He didn't even know her name. His own action brought a bout of laughter to his lungs, and he inhaled, throwing his head back before letting out a genuine, fanciable laugh. Oh, if only such joy was mutual, he was sure the girl would not be laughing, but oh well. This was fun. Felix vaguely realised he hadn't really laughed in quite a damn while. How lovely it was to feel the upwards curve of his lips and the laughter rumble in his chest, his eyes light up and glimmer with joyous deviltry. He looked 10x more handsome than usual. His laughter succumbed to a broad grin and he zeroed his gaze on the ravenclaw girl.

Gemima thought it was over and done with. Just another dumb boy trying to seem bigger than he actually was. There was no shortage of those back home, so it was expected that she'd encounter them here as well. She was falling back into the comfortable cradle of her own thoughts.

And then the twat flat-tired her.

He pulled on her hair, too! She almost fell and cracked her skull on the floor as the bastard cackled madly behind her. Her first instinct was to turn around and jinx the crap out of him, but that'd just make her as bad as he was, if not worse. Instead, she calmly knelt, pulled up the heel of her sneaker, then untied and retied the laces. Gemima didn't get angry easily. It was an unpleasant emotion, and one that she often tried to avoid. She thought that she had felt it before, the hot, irritating sensation that quickened her words and reddened her skin.

But as she double knotted her shoelace, the thoughts bubbling in her mind calmed, and cooled to an icy determination. If he wanted to act that way, he'd better be ready to face the consequences. It was only logical. She slowly stood up and turned around to stare the boy right in the eye. Despite her small stature, her gaze was steely and full of contempt.
"Are you done?" she asked coolly. "I've got a lot of things to do today, so I'd appreciate it if you'd stop being a damn prick." The tremor was gone from her voice.

"It's kind of pathetic really. I almost feel sorry for you," she sneered. "Oh, and one more thing: If you ever step on my shoe again, and it comes off, I'll do the same thing to your head."

She punctuated the last word with every degree of finality. Then she turned to go yet again. Her mind was buzzing with some kind of adrenaline; and her heart was booming in her ears. She had no idea what had possessed her to say all that. It was completely out of character for her to be so cold, so daring.

But it felt rather...empowering, mum would say. Gem took a deep breath. Maybe empowering was a good thing. It served him right, anyway.

Felix’s jaw nearly dropped when the girls only reaction was to merely bend down to tie her shoelace, instead of snapping at him or shoving him or maybe giving him a well-deserved hex. She stood up straight, and Felix leaned back slightly as she fixed him with a piercing gaze. It was an out-of-character reflex, and he caught himself just in time. Since when had he been scared of girls? Exactly. Never. He momentarily paused before snapping back into function, and resumed an unfazed expression and posture, matching the girl with a stare of his own, crossing his arms over his chest. Although, unlike hers, his stare was full of provocation.

"Oh, and one more thing: If you ever step on my shoe again, and it comes off, I'll do the same thing to your head."

Oooh damn, that was a good one. She really had a way with her words, didn't she? Felix nearly laughed before remembering that he was supposed to be insulted. The corners of his mouth twitched, however, his momentary joyous feeling at getting a reaction from the girl vanished as she turned on her heel and walked away. What a put-off. [The irony in this since Felix is a put-off 99% of the time lmao] This time he didn't pause before striding to catch up with her. He steeled to her side and matched her pace, his long legs having no trouble in keeping up. Before she could protest he grabbed her arm and linked it with his, flashing her a fetching grin.

“Awhhh, bestie, don't run away from me. You can always forgive me, right?” He pouted, the mocking expression not quite reaching his eyes. He ran a hand through his brown locks in mock frustration. “Whatever will I do if you don't forgive me, darling?” Felix raised his eyebrows at her and gave her a disapproving look. He'd completely skipped on the sorry part, but he didn't bring that up of course. His eyes flickered to focus on the hallway ahead, and he might have enjoyed their intertwined arms a fragment of a second longer if he hadn't halted quite suddenly, pausing as another wry smirk weaved its way into his features.

“Now smurfette, listen ." He momentarily realized he still didn't have an inkling as to what her name might be. "I'll make it up to you. I'm a kind soul after all. I'll carry your bag instead.” He didn't give her time to answer before he carried out his request. In one swift motion, he swiped her bag from her arm, shouldering it and turning on his heel. Felix was already halfway back down the hallway, his gaze casually wandering ahead of him as he strolled, almost lazily, in the direction of the library. He didn't look back to her, fixing his shirt as he went. Now it was his turn to run away.

Gemima was just beginning to feel comfortable again until she heard the telltale clacking of the boy's footsteps catching up to her. She suppressed a groan and tried to keep on walking. Then, he suddenly linked their arms together. She tried to pull away, but the prick was stronger than he looked. She reluctantly met his gaze. Oh, how she wished she could slap that stupid smile off of his face. But she was better than that, right?

He put on a fake pout, and spoke to her mockingly. His voice was dripping with treacle, and Gemima bristled at his words.
Bestie? Darling?? Who do you think I am?
Suddenly, he dug his feet into the ground and stopped. Gem almost fell on her face with her momentum. Her nostrils flared, and she spun around, ready to give him another verbal beatdown.

“Now smurfette, listen," he crooned, still beaming.
Smurfette?! Out of all the names--
"I'll make it up to you. I'm a kind soul, after all. I'll carry your bag instead.” And with that, he pilfered her school bag away before she had even a second to react. He started to strut down the corridor again, and Gemima just stood there, mouth slightly open in disbelief. This was certainly not what she had planned for today. The situation was getting ridiculous. She quickly went over her options.

Of course, she could go back and rip her bag out of his arms, but then he'd only steal it back again. She could go and deliver some more words of scorn, since that had been strangely fun, but he'd probably enjoy her anger at him. He seemed plenty amused the first time she'd done that.

Because it's what he wants, she thought. This is a game for him. An idiotic, cruel game, to be sure, but part of her respected him for being able to be so damn insufferable. She sighed to herself and began speed-walking towards the Hufflepuff boy.

That didn't mean she was going to keep playing against him, though.

Once she was in range, Gemima simply shot her hand out, grabbed the strap of her bag, and yanked at it as hard as she could. The bag flew off his shoulder, and into her waiting arms. Then she immediately darted into a large, fast approaching crowd of students. She felt breathless, like she had just gotten away with some grand crime. Gem made sure to lose herself in the crowd, like she had done so many times before. Despite her vow that she'd avoid hiding in the shadows, she figured the task at hand could be an exception. It was second nature to her by now.

She pressed onward, ducking and weaving until she rounded a corner, searching for the familiar spiral staircase that led to Ravenclaw tower. Maybe her decision was the coward's way out, but what else could she have done? The back and forth charade they had been doing was getting boring, anyways. Kind soul, my ass.

It was admittedly fun, pushing the ravenclaws buttons like this. Felix made to turn as he heard furious footsteps trailing him. However, before he could so much as flash a sly grin in the girl's direction- the bag was ripped from his grasp, leaving his arm empty. Felix scoffed, catching a glimpse of her silky dark hair as she waded through the crowd and disappeared. Giving a nonchalant shrug he shoved his hands in his pockets, an amused expression underlying his features.

He turned on his heel, swaggering in the direction of the library. He fought the urge to erupt into laughter as he reminisced the annoyed facial expressions of the ravenclaw girl and the way he had worked her up so effortlessly. Then it hit him. He didn't know her name. Maybe that was better, it's not like he intended to see smurfette again. Then again, something about her intrigued him, she was so annoy-able. He turned the corner and stalked through the library doors, making his way to the back shelves. Now that he thought about it, he’d see smurfette again, he was sure about it. He set his bag down on the table. The next time he saw her, he'd make sure he threw her bag out of the window, or even better, threw her out the window.
