New Friends?
Luka can feel his mother’s nervous stare on the back of his neck as he approaches Platform Three-Quarters, luggage in hand. She can be…overbearing, at times. Not that her attention is unwarranted. She did just get her only son back two years ago, only to have to see him off to a school hundreds of miles away.
He takes a deep breath as he approaches the train, nervously fingering the sprig of cypress tucked into his pocket for good luck. Last minute, his head whips around with a rare, toothy grin. “I promise I’ll owl!” he hollers as he steps into the train. He is nudged into the carriage by the flood of students boarding before he can see her expression.
The magic inside the train is nearly palpable, practically thrumming through the air. Luka absentmindedly traces a wall with a fingertip as he walks along the carriages. He’s become more familiar with magical spaces in the past two years, but the Hogwarts Express is just on another level. It’s breathtaking; even the most mundane seats, banisters, and walls feel imbued with magic.
He arrived relatively early - his mother is a firm believer that unless you arrive five minutes early, you’re late - and most of the seats are still unoccupied. Stowing his larger suitcase away, he chooses one at random, sliding over to the window seat. His smaller messenger bag, packed with personal belongings, rests in his lap.
Luka digs through the largest pocket, checking that all his papers are still properly stored, his admission letter hasn’t been crumpled, and that his map of the island Cyprus is safely rolled up. Next, he goes through every item on his supplies list, mentally checking off every item. Assured he brought everything he needs, he places the bag at his feet. Not that he’d have time to actually procure something if he did forget it, but it still calms his mind to be sure.
Settling into the seat, he directs his gaze to the window, curiously waiting who he will meet on this ride.
