There was one girl who was also late. Blaze had seen her running towards the group seconds after he had. "Well, at least I wasn't the only one," still Blaze felt bad for just forgetting like that but he couldn't do anything about it now. Minutes later the girl walked up to him and asked if he wanted to partner up with him. "Umm.. sure," Blaze felt awkward at the moment she had just appeared and boom like that asked him Blaze wasn't sure what to do at all. "I guess let's go..." he walked off back into the main bulk of the group.

Blaze stood there in the crowd as one of the professors conjured a spider. Blaze was surprised and immediately he began to think "Are the spiders real or not how did they just appear like that," Blaze would always over think things and this time was one of those times. The professor shouted some incantation and the spider was thrown back. "Wow," he muttered to himself under his breath not wanting to seem to amazed, though he certainly was. The same professor started to conjure even more spiders for the students to cast the incantation on.

That's what Blaze did as a spider appeared. Blaze took out his wand and firmly held it in his hand gripping the end. Slowly moving it towards the spider and flicking his wand while shouting the words, "Arania Exumai!"

Thankfully the boy accepted her request to partner up just as the group began to set into the forest. Syrah was extremely excited, she had wanted to explore this place since she first saw it, but knew it was against the rules for students to venture in by themselves.

As she walked by her partner's side she remembered how horrible she was at introducing herself. She didn't know how needed the partners would be, or if they were simply walking together, but never the less they should still know each other's names. "I'm Syrah Steele, by the way. Who are you?" She asked, looking at him from the corner of her eye, not quite willing to take her full concentration off the forest itself.

As they walked Syrah felt the chill of the shadows, and squinted in the slight darkness, trying to see farther ahead of them. She had read about the kinds of Magical Creatures in the forest, from Centaurs to giant spiders, and she thought for a moment if that would end up being a problem. Obviously it wouldn't this was a rather large group and they had two very skilled chaparones.

The group of eager students walked for a while in the forest. Partners and friends were chatting amongst themselves. Syrah kept kind of quiet, only answering if she was asked a direct question by a fellow student. She was much more interested in seeing the sights. She didn't know when she would get another chance to travel in the Forbidden Forest.

Finally the group halted as the Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts stopped in a small clearing. Looking around, Syrah didn't see anything too interesting about this place, so was a bit confused until Scheinberg started speaking.

The young Slytherin's eyes grew wider as she listened to the discussion of today's activities. She lived for learning new spells, and this one was a second year spell. Anyone here who managed to succeed at at would be far ahead of their first year peers. Syrah though of the dueling club she recently joined. She had yet to participate since she didn't know any spells useful for dueling but this might turn the tables for her.

Thinking about her target for this new spell - aracomantulas - giant spiders. Syrah was never too afraid of spiders as a child, but she didn't particularly like them. Plus she figured they would be a bit more frightening when their pinchers where the size of a head. Syrah didn't dwell too much on that, though. She wasn't going to let something like fear get in the way of learning a useful spell.

As Scheinberg demonstrated the spell on a conjured spider, Syrah practically missed it. She was extremely quick. Suddenly unsure, Syrah knew she wouldn't be nearly that skilled for a long time, especially now. But, again, it didn't matter, she told herself. Her goal was to simply learn the spell.

She watched as the transfiguration teacher conjured two more spiders and held them in place for the students. He was just as skilled as his fellow teacher, if not more so. The spiders he created looked as real as anything else. As he explained that the Slytherin's would practice first, Syrah decided to wait a moment and let a couple others go before her - so she could see the skill sets she was up against. But when her partner went and took his turn, she decided that was a good time to step up and attempt the spell herself.

Beforehand she had been muttering the incantation to herself over and over. It was not too difficult to pronounce, she had heard worse. But she wanted to make sure when the time came she didn't stutter.

Stepping up in front of the group she focused on the smaller spider. She figured there was a slightly better chance of success on a relatively easier target. "Arania Exumi!" She shouted as confidently as she could at the spider while pointing her wand. She remembered what the female professor had said about wand movement and Syrah tried her best to replicate the flick correctly. It didn't seem too complicated of a spell overall.

Kyden looked around the forest. He stood listening intently while everything was explained and 'Arania Exumai!" was cast on the spider by the professor. Now that looked cool! He wanted to try. He watched intently as other Slytherins stepped forward to try their turn.

He turned to his partner. "Wait here I think I am going to give this a shot. It looks pretty interesting you know. I hope I do okay." He was slightly nervous he didn't want to embarrass himself in front of all these Ravenclaws and Slytherins. He was a Prefect after all. He felt that he had something to prove.

He watched a couple more students go before he stepped forward announcing that he would like to have a turn. He stood and waited for it to be his turn. He was nervous and was mentally giving himself a pep talk. He knew that he could do it. He was pretty good and mastering a spell when they were taught so he truthfully had no reason to be as nervous as he was. He stood tall, which wasn't very tall given how short he was. Once a spider was conjured, he drew his wand and pointed it at the spider before speaking the incantation, "Arania Exumai!" He exclaimed confidently.

Alex would look into the darkness of the forest and saw some kind of black creature. For a moment he was frozen, cold fear coursing through his veins. Then when he blinked again it was gone, Alex rubbed his eyes and muttered to himself mentally 'it was probaply just my imagination.' But he did now keep his hand on his wand, so that he could quickly cast the knockback  jinx if neccesary.

He then listened carefully to both professors speaking and looked attentively at the professors casting the spell. It seemed that there wasn't any real wand movement needed to cast the spell so that was most fortunate for him.

When he heard that he could try to do the spell he grinned excitedly and said to his partner "I'm going to try and cast the spell

First Alex would softly speak the words "Arania Exumi" seven times. Making sure that he could properly pronounce the spell first. Then he would walk towards where professor Yornikovych was conjuring spiders out of thin air.

Alex himself simply expected that conjuring inovlved using matter in the air t be transformed into solid objects which would explain in a semi-scientific way how one could conjure things out of air. Though how air was transformed into other elements was another interesting concept.

Alex then mentally chided himself for drifting off. Thus he kept his wand firm in his hand and said with determination "Arania Exumi" feeling the magic building up in his wand before releasing it at one of the conjured spiders

Aravis watched carefully noting proper stance, gesture, and pronunciation. Professor Yornikovych conjured spiders and preformed spells that the students would have to use as well. She certainly did not want to mess up, for the sake of her pride. Her partner seemed all too excited for it. He went up and cast his spells as did other students. It was entertaining to watch the confused creatures shoot backwards when the other students did it. Luckily, Aravis wasn't afraid of spiders so it didn't frighten her too much.

She practiced the spells gesuture and incantation over and over before waltzing forward eager to do her best. She smiled as she saw a spider heading towards her already. "Arania Exumi!" She shouted clearly aiming her wand directly at the creature. She turned to a second spider and repeated the spell again. She thought about going back to the group until she saw one more. After all, thirds a charm is it not? She smiled before aiming her wand once more. This time she would use the other spell she had heard the Head if Ravenclaw say. "Aranea evanesca!" She shouted while doing the precise hand gesture. She smiled before heading back to the group happily.

Jason jumped up a little and turned around to see a girl. He was surprised that someone decided to intitate a conversation with him and was more surprised that she asked to be partners. It could be that there was hardly anyone else left to partner up with and she didn't want to be in trouble for being alone. "Um. Sure. You don't mind being around a Slytherin?" Jason looked a bit nervous and unsure of what to think. He was always under the impression that no one liked Slytherins for being seen as cunning and dastardly. "I'm Jason. Atwater." He introduced himself shyly with a voice just barely above a whisper.

After the small one on one with his new partner, he started to focus on the path in front of him. He would watch as the professors begun to explain the purpose for coming out here, but still wasn't doing well about it. Did they honestly think that practicing on terrifyingly spiders? He would like to trust his professors, but this was becoming too much. But like he kept saying.....no turning back now.

Jason watched everyone starting to practicing the spell. He watched their stances, hand gesters, and listened to how to say the spell's incantation. After a few more moments, he stepped up and held his wand out to one of the conjured spiders. "Arania Exumi!" He shouted the incantation while pointing his wand at a spider.

After trying the spell, he turned his head to notice something just a little ways away from the group. It looked like a odd twig, but after taking a step towards it he noticed that it was actually a leg. A leg belonging to a giant spider. He stepped back frozen in fear and backed up towards the professors. "Is....Is that also part of the lesson?" He asked pointing at the giant leg for his professors to take note of.

Action: partnered up with Cecily and pointed out the giant spider leg to the professors.

COLETTE successfully cast her spell. A bright, thick stream of light comes from her wand, shooting towards the giant spider. The creature took notice just before it hit, lurching towards her, but before it could reach her it was blown back by a powerful blast. The spider crumples to the floor, passed out as the spell drained its health (TARGET HP: 550 -> 20)

JAKE failed to cast his spell successfully, being that he had not been taught the spell before. Instead of it working, no light, no anything appeared at the tip of his wand. Thankfully, the other spiders were too busy being distracted by others to notice his failed, aggrovated attempt. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

MIA failed her attempt at casting Arania Exumai at one of the spiders, instead pulling a leaf from underneath the spider to make it fall. The conjured spider caught note of this,  and jumped at her. Thankfully enough, Professor Scheinberg was able to avoid a catastrophe by casting a spell on the spider. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 0)

BLAZE is unsuccessful in his attempt to cast the spell. His spell does hit though, but it doesn’t quite do as meant. Instead, the spider was charmed to jump whenever its legs touched the ground again. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

SYRAH failed her attempted as she pronounced the spell wrong. Instead, the spell draws the remaining spiders towards her! She’ll need some help or else she’ll be stuck in a swarm of spiders. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

KYDEN cast his spell successfully, but it completely missed the target! The stream of blue went directly above the spiders closing in on Syrah, hitting the tree behind it and causing some leaves and branches to fall. Oops! (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

ALEXANDER , much like Syrah, pronounced the spell wrong, and instead directed the spiders’ attention onto him. At least he saved Syrah! But what will he do now? (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

ARAVIS unfortunately failed both of her spells. She too said Arania Exumai wrong, except for this no light or anything came from her wand. The second spell had the same effect, as she was simply not skilled enough to use that spell yet. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550)

JASON also said the incantation incorrectly, except this time a different outcome came from it. He was blown back from his partner and the rest of the students, much like a knockback jinx gone wrong. The spider was too distracted by Alexander to pay this much mind. (TARGET HP: 550 -> 550) (PERSONAL HP: 400 -> 375 Fall took 25 HP)

The first student left a great impression on the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. She had the right stance, the right wand movement, and the right incantation. It had made her proud of her house. Though she shouldn’t have gotten proud too fast, because right after the redheaded girl, a boy came to the stand who Leonie already had a slight distaste for, despite him being in her house. She couldn’t help but to feel the slightest bit annoyed with the boy.

Somehow, he had figured out the incantation to a variation of the levitation charm - Alarte Ascendare. He didn’t do well at it though, considering it was a spell above his skill level, and not much happened. The woman’s eye then trailed from him to a girl with light hair, who had cast the spell right, except she seemed to lose focus or something, because instead of doing what the spell was meant to do, it had pulled an oak leaf from underneath one of its spindly legs, and with a thump, the spider fell onto its underside.

The woman looked to the child to see if she would do anything, but it seemed like her reaction time was off because the spider that had fallen was already back up, and it lurched itself at her. Leonie withdrew her wand once, the lightweight cherry wood snug in her palm. She pointed it at the spider in mid-air in just a millisecond, although it did cut close to actually tackling the poor Slytherin girl. “Flipendo,” The woman cast monotonously, a frown on her face. Now not only one, but two Slytherins had disappointed her. Surely, the Ravenclaws would upstage them. And if not, then perhaps it was best to keep the spell to third years.

Watching the rest of the students, one of the half-veela’s almost-perfectly shaped eyebrows arched up in questioning. Not one student, save for Colette, had succeeded with the spell. She did notice that the remaining spiders were headed in a boy’s direction, who had cast the spell wrong, and Leonie looked to the other children.

Whether they were moving or not, there was a need for hustle now if they wanted to help the boy. But now wasn’t the time for games, there was still a whole other house that had to practice the spell before they could continue on with their journey. And if Leonie calculated the path they were taking correctly, they would be entering the Great Hall just in time for supper that night. She nodded to the Transfiguration professor, pursing her lips, “I guess take them away now. Teach your students, yes?” She tucked her wand behind her back, clasped in one hand as her other hand grasped the other wrist.

She looked to her student, Jason, who had pointed out something in the bushes. Leonie looked in the direction he was pointing in, then quirked an eyebrow, "What, the leaves? No." She answered, before turning back to watch the rest of the students attempt to cast the spell.

The older man watched with keen eyes on the student’s performance, it wasn’t what he was expecting but he didn’t expect everyone to get it the first time. All but one had succeeded, which by itself was a surprise. He thought that they would have to do a few more rounds till the desired result was achieved, though he assumed that would take a few more days. Nevertheless, the man kept the longstanding habit of taking note of what went wrong with each of the student's spellcasting.

Where did the problem stem? Did their confidence crack under the pressure of fear? Perhaps their execution folded under the gaze of their peers? Sergei was no stranger to the concept of wanting to seem like the best or at least a capable wizard in the eyes of others. He would shift between his own students and Slytherin house with a critical eye, making sure that the house was watching the demonstration.

Leoni's expression was often caught between the gazes, Sergei was trying to read her thoughts through the hard lines on her features. But the real character was the belly they were in, the uncanny valley that the large group left themselves vulnerable to. The enigmatic forest would seemingly come alive with sound, a rustle behind, a noise in the distance, and shadows that played mischievous tricks.

Whatever happened here was out of their control, but the trick was having a supervised environment in something that was largely beyond their capable hands. In his mind, the ones who lived were not the one with most power but the one with the most authority in any situation. The difference between life and death was the ability to function under the crushing weight of danger, not how hard you could blast your opponent to smithereens.

It was cruel of him to admit that he wanted to often throw his pupils in the face of danger, not for the sake of cruel enjoyment, but for them to gain some understanding in the concept of sanity within insanity. The Bulgarian was a firm believer in experience over the confined and safe environment the students were often sheltered in. It was normal to fear, good even, but to relinquish full sovereignty of one's self to it sounded like a death sentence.

So he watched and when the other Head of House spoke to him, he took a step back to let the Ravenclaws take the stage. "I suppose so. They have had enough time standing around." , he glanced at his group. The man was tempted to wager the Defense Professor for a pint of Butterbeer at Hogsmeade, however, he knew it was unprofessional. Sergei did not want the children to make jokes about his false gambling habits.

Although it was a tempting thought to revisit in a later time, perhaps once the students were back in the castle and hopefully before supper. Sergei stepped forward and motioned to a different direction from Leonie's students. "Come up to where the Slytherin was and have your wands at the ready." His hand came up to brush his chin, musing something to himself as he waited.

"Arania exumai. Ah-rahn-ee-a eggs-oo-may. The 'ex' is a hard pronunciation, say it with meaning. A spell is only as strong as the caster's intent after all." The Professor pulled his wand from his side and raised it, yet he took a second to pause and glance at whoever stood at the ready. "Stay calm."

Without hesitating further, the Head of House summoned the same amount of spiders with a few movements of his hand and the incantation. They came out, six-legged with a fury that couldn't be real due to the size of their bodies. Whoever was in their view was the target and that was the Ravenclaws who chose to cast.

Delilah watched all the others as most of them failed at their spells, and two of them actually managed to attract them somehow. Surprisingly Delilah was one of the few girls her age not scared of spiders but when they are running at you she didn't imagine that was a very fun experience. She stepped forward as her head of house explained once more and took her wand out of her robes, mumbling the incantation under her breath a few times before looking at the spider in front of her.

She hoped that it didn't run at her before she had the chance to cast the spell, but it didn't seem to be doing anything at the moment so she just stared at it, it was certainly a creepy looking thing, even if not neccesarily scary. She preferred Denise, Denise was nice, and had less of a desire to hurt people. Although having the professors there with her reassured her a bit, knowing that if anything happened they could deal with it, like they did with the Slytherins.

She stared the large furry beast down, hoping she wouldn't have to actually cast the spell, hoping it would disappear with her glare. She wasn't the most confident in her abilities to cast spells, but hopefully it would work. If it was a massive snake sitting in front of her she would scream and run away, however it was just a spider, they were okay.

The young girl knew it would only be a matter of time until the thing charged at her, so she raised her wand and muttered the incantation a couple more times. Before pointing her wand right between the many, many eyes that the spider had and saying "Arania exumai!" Quite loudly, hoping to god it hit and didn't end up backfiring, and also hoping she actually said it right, that would be nice.

As Cel watched the Slytherins work their magic, so to speak, she fingered the handle of her wand, trying her best to calm her nerves. She was grateful for Ravenclaw going second; with others trying their best before her, she could observe what they did right-- and what they did wrong.

It seemed that they were doing quite a lot wrong, from the looks of it, though, as nearly every one of them had failed. She frowned; would it be this difficult for herself? But Cel found her Head of House's words to be reassuring-- reassuring enough, at least, to calm herself. The girl stared around, trying to find anything out of place to make sure nothing might go wrong. She stepped forward, her knuckles turning white around the length of her chestnut wand handle as she surveyed the spiders before her, all the while repeating the pronunciation of the spell to herself, both mentally in Professor Yornikovych's voice and verbally under her breath. Ah-RAHN-ee-a eggs-oo-may... Arania Exumai. Accent on the 'ex.' She prayed that it would work in the face of the beast clicking its jaws at her as her mind interpreted it as mocking, taunting laughter.

They were... eccentric. Oh, how she loved that word. They were unearthly in their own way, holding a sort of furious power as they stood framed by the forest's emerald leaves. Nonetheless creepy, of course, with those gigantic dripping fangs and numerous beady eyes. Each shelled leg seemed so intricately structured in its own way, the exoskeleton so carefully fitted around the fine joints and hairs on each limb, while the fine coat of black hair covered its body.

It was... fluffy.

The girl barely withheld a giggle. Fluffy. Most girls her age called spiders frightening, scary, imposing-- not fluffy, of all things. But it was true; these gigantic beasts were quite as furry as Denise was. Cel wondered what would happen if she reached out and pet an acromantula on the back; how might it react...?

Likely the same way as it was reacting to simply seeing the Ravenclaws lined up before it: Charge.

A single acromantula began moving its eight legs, soft thumps and crackles sounding as its feet whipped across the dry leaves. Taking a deep breath, Cel raised her wand as the beast barreled toward her in a sort of frenzied rage. How impolite. Then again, it's a spider, and one of Beast classification too; of course it's impolite.

"Arania Exumai!" Cel enunciated as clearly as possible, repeating the pronunciation in her mind as she spoke.

Action: Scan surroundings for any details out of place and cast Arania Exumai.
