2022, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs. Slytherin: Match 4

Addie couldn't help but laugh as she watched her opponent catch fire. Sure, one of her own spells had backfired just moments ago, but it was a lot funnier to see it happen to someone else.

"Thanks by the way," she said, turning to her teammate who had once again taken a risk in choosing to heal her. But though she was feeling re-energized and ready to go for the coming rounds, Katrina seemed to be in a less ideal position, as a blindfold now covered her eyes.

"Well that's not good," she whispered as she quickly evaluated the battlefield, wondering how to proceed.

Action: Soon to be Owled

Katrina sent another healing spell Adeline’s way, as was slowly becoming her MO in duels. Might not be the best idea as it was getting a bit predictable but what could she do?

Darkness fell over Katrina’s vision and she whispered a quick thank you to Adeline as she untied it and allowed Katrina to regain sight without having to stop what she was doing.

A well oiled machine they were.

Round 7

The two Gryffindors remained on the defensive, with Adeline removing her partner's blindfold and Katrina healing herself. However, the Slytherins did not seem keen on backing down, and Starlee forwent the option to extinguish her robes in favor of bringing the heat to her adversaries. A well-cast Incendio Duo struck the blinded student cleanly, Katrina would be met with the burning sensation of a fire-making spell. Illowy too pressed the advantage, casting Ventus at Katrina, buffeting the fourth year with powerful winds. Even though she could see now, she would still find difficulty in dodging due to its strength.

Spectator Thread

Just as Katrina regained her sight, she was accosted with more spells. A fire crept it’s way up her increasingly tired form. Soon after, before Katrina could do much about the fire, a wind slammed into her, pinning the Gryffindor in place. Katrina cast a healing spell on herself, relishing in the minimal benefit from it. Time was running out…

Starlee knew that while she had backfired her own spell upon herself, now was not the time to give up. Her partner even confirmed that, yes, she was going to be fine. She nodded back at Illowy, trying not to let the flames distract her. But oh Merlin how they hurt as they licked up the side of her robe.

The chance to target someone completely blindfolded was too good to pass up in favor of putting her own flames out, so she raised her wand, ignoring the pain, and hit Walker with a clean incendio. Illowy hit as well. But before she could relish in those successes, it seemed Walker expected to be the target, and decided to heal themselves. This was getting tiring, watching over and over as they attempted to compensate for the damages against them. Things were still way too close to call, she had to keep doing her best.

Adeline quickly untied the knot on Katrina's blindfold and darted away from her partner as she saw a couple of spells fly across the stage toward them. There was the slightest twinge of guilt as she abandoned her fellow Gryffindor, particularly as both attacks found their mark, but once Katrina healed herself, she didn't feel quite so bad.

According to Addie's assessment of the situation, both sides appeared to be enduring a roughly equal amount of wear and tear, leaving her prediction of the match's outcome inconclusive. But at least this duel wasn't quite as one-sided as her last one had been, and perhaps this time, she and Katrina would even be the victors.

Round 8

It seemed that in the latter half of this duel, the lions had once again found their fight. As the flames on Starlee's robes died down, the ones born of her own wand, Katrina was keen on ensuring that the younger Slytherin would remain burning. The fire Katrina had transfigured seemed tenacious, unlikely to cease the blaze anytime soon. Following her partner's example, Adeline's game face was on, her Flipendo struck her target square, and Starlee would be met with the accompanying pain.

However, the younger student would not be going down without a fight. Starlee disarmed Katrina expertly, the wand that had just caused her harm going flying across the piste. The Gryffindor would have quite the search on her hands, for her opponent's Expelliarmus was flawless in execution. Unfortunately, the second year Slytherin wouldn't have back up, Illowy having some difficulty casting and aiming her Mucus ad Nauseam.

About time, Thomas thought, he had begun to presume the duel would come to an anti-climactic close. It seemed that neither team would be backing down, keen to fight to the bitter end. He could admire their perseverance.

- So sorry for the messiness y'all! I have a major thing to address real quick before the rest of the OOC info gets mentioned:
I completely forgot to take into account the -1 accuracy Katrina's opponents get due to her ability Charmer. There were no instances in the duel so far that this would have made a difference, at least none that I caught. However, in this round the ability caused a significant impact--from an impaired hit to a miss. I apologize for the inaccuracy, won't happen again!

Spectator Thread

"Hah! Yes!" Addie shouted as her attack impacted her opponent. Her spell joined the flames which had shot out of Katrina's wand, meaning two successful hits from the lions.

"Come on, Kat, let's keep it up!" she called over to her partner, her eyes gleaming with pride and ferocity. Though the feeling of repeatedly missing had been miserable, this new success washed away that insecurity as Addie felt her team push into a better position.

This joyous moment was broken as Adeline witnessed Katrina's wand once more flying through the air.

"Okay, next time, we're taping your wand to your hand," she half joked.
