This takes place after the awful Valentines Dinner
The evening was pure chaos. Every minute you thought it couldn't have got any worse and then that's exactly what happened. It got worse and worse and worse. At the same time, Haley's heart was breaking a little more and more and more with each passing minute. The black boil full of sadness had completely enveloped her heart, it kept spreading and it felt like she was being eaten from the inside. The black mass spread to her lungs and as she finally walked through the big door, finally left the room, she found it hard to breathe. All her concentration was on not crying and as soon as she was out of sight the first sobs came, breathing erratic and her legs began to move faster until she finally ran.

Her dress and long red hair blew as she ran, her footsteps echoed through the corridors and tears streamed down her cheek. Her head was no longer clear and it was hard to understand what had happened that night. Yet it was quite simple. Simon and Haley were no longer Simon and Haley. They were no longer the lovebirds they once were, no longer the unofficially married couple and the couple that one or two people thought they would never break up. He was no longer her Secret Keeper, her Mister Kincaid. But it wasn't just the end of the relationship, it was so much more. She lost her boyfriend, her best friend, and at the same time she felt more betrayed than ever. For they would not only break up because they had grown apart, but because Simon's heart belonged to someone else.

At this realisation, she felt the stabbing pain right in the middle of her chest. It felt like someone had stuck a dagger through her heart from behind and that described it quite well. She kept running, she didn't even try to suppress the tears and by now her face was a waterfall. When she finally came to a turn, she went to the right and stopped against the wall. She propped her hands on her legs, sobbing uncontrollably and at the same time she was completely out of breath from all the running. It was the sound of her broken heart in the corridors. After a few seconds, maybe minutes, had passed, she straightened up again, her body still leaning against the wall, and let her head fall against the cold stone wall as well. She wiped her face aggressively with the back of her hand, trying to clear the tears, but this attempt only caused more chaos on her face.

After a few more minutes, her breathing had finally calmed down, but her emotions had not. She continued to be consumed by the sadness and anger, the tears streaming down her face, the sobs soft to hear. She didn't know what to do, she just wanted to scream and cry. She wanted to leave, but she couldn't leave. Just as she decided to go back into Gryffindor Tower, she could hear footsteps coming closer and closer. She wiped her face wildly to clear the tears, but she would not be able to lie to anyone. Her eyes were red from crying, her nose and cheeks red as well. But what she was not prepared for was the person who was about to come around that corner and it was a face that would make her anything but happy.

Let the heartache unfortunately begin with @Haley Rose

His first thought, and a correct one, was that Haley would head toward her dormitory. So he made his way toward the Gryffindor Common Room. Nearly the entire population of Hogwarts's staff and students were in the Ballroom, so unfortunately it was only her in the hallway with her attempted silent crying, and him. He tried to tread softly so he wouldn't be heard because he knew he was the last person she wanted to see, but he also did so quickly so he could catch up with her. If she made it to her dormitory, there'd be avoidance and he knew it.

He kept along, that quiet sort of long strides to try and get him to her and he heard the mumbling of the portraits as he passed, all talking in hushed voices about what might be wrong with the poor redheaded girl. What was wrong was that her boyfriend was an insensitive lowlife.

Just as she got towards her corridor, he came and stepped to her, reaching out and taking his hand to her wrist. "Haley, PLEASE! I know you don't want to talk to me right now but we need to talk. We can't avoid this." His eyes would find hers but they wouldn't just be filled with the sadness of before but might also be a little alarming as they were streaked with red from his tears and blood stains running down his face. He too had been crying.

"I don't want to, but we have to. I'm not letting you avoid it. I've already been avoiding it for too long and that just makes it all worse. You deserve better."

Of course, with all the students and teachers, it had to be Simon Ezra Kincaid who met her here now. Of course, she was also aware that it was no coincidence, yet she had hoped that he would not find her or even look for her in the first place. But now she was standing here, red-eyed, anger and sadness written all over her face, and his hand on her wrist. "Yes, you're right about that! I.don't.want.to.talk.to.you."
She grumbled at him and pulled her arm out of his grip. She knew, as did he, that they needed to talk. And that she would have to do it now. The last time she had avoided him had not ended well, as could be seen now.

She knew it was necessary, they had to talk it out, the end of their relationship. And that was also the reason why she freed herself from his grip but did not run away. She just stood there, tears in her eyes, evil eyes. But she remained standing, ready to have her heart broken, one more time. It took a moment, but she managed to lift her eyes, to look at him. Tears ran down her cheek and she could also see that he was crying. She could see the blood and while others would have been shocked or perhaps even afraid of him, she was not. She didn't find it repulsive, cringe or perceive him as a freak. She knew he was a dhampir. She had made that realisation with him, she had helped him, she had been there for him and it hadn't changed who he was to her.

But tonight would change that. She loved this boy and she wanted to hate him. Her emotions were going crazy and she just wanted to scream and scream and scream at him. There was a moment of silence. She continued to glare at him angrily and when he uttered the words that he had been avoiding it for far too long, her face contorted in pain. The dagger was pulled out and rammed through her heart again with full force. How long had this been going on? How long had his heart belonged to someone else and how long had he wanted to part from her? He didn't know what he had done to her, but everything inside her shattered. She had never thought that love could be connected with so much pain.

"Then just say it! Say it and then we can finally go our separate ways!" it blurted out of Haley and she screamed at him. She didn't care if anyone heard or if she acted childish. The other students and teachers were still busy with Valentines Dinner or were in their common rooms and she was sure that the portraits here at Hogwarts had been through worse than this.

Haley took a step towards Simon, her temper and fire reflected in her eyes. But sadness was also written all over her face, flowing down her cheeks along her face. "Don't tell me I'd deserve better!" she admonished him, taking another step towards him, "Don't act like you're doing this for me. Like you're the hero making a sacrifice." Immediately in front of him she stopped. "It's already at its worst." She told him with a stare into his eyes and with each word she tapped her index finger against his chest.

Noooo with @Haley Rose

Simon listened to Haley's words and no, this wasn't for her and yet - and yet the reason he had prolonged it was because he wanted to do so in the best way possible, the gentlest way possible. He still cared for her immensely. He still loved her. He just had these feelings that were growing for another and knew that they needed to be explored. It wasn't right to be with someone when you were starting to like someone else.

So no, not for her. He was being damned selfish, but he still didn't want her hurt and here she was, tears streaming down her face and a Valentine's Day ruined - a relationship ruined; something once great ruined.

Why?

Why couldn't he just accept the whole Summer incident and move on? Why couldn't he just understand that some people couldn't tell others everything? He had allowed it to cause a rift between them, one that just grew wider and wider with each passing day. It wasn't like he was perfect so why did he expect her to be?

So what did he say to her? There were a lot of options and yet none seemed to be the right choice.

I love you. It wouldn't be a lie - no, not in the slightest. He did love her and both cared ABOUT her and FOR her. When you loved someone you wanted the best for them and you wanted them happy. You wanted to be there for them in their greatest moments to celebrate with them as well as their lowest downfalls to help support them. He wanted all of that for Haley.

I never meant to hurt you. It was the last thing he wanted. He wanted to be someone that she could trust, someone she could tell everything to. Someone she could lean on when things were hard or became difficult. He wanted to be the solution to her problems, not the cause of them.

It hurts me too.

I'm always going to care about you.

I don't know if this is the right decision.

I'm sorry.

Here it goes. He'd see how much he'd get out before she'd slap him across the face or slam him into the stone corridor wall or whatever other horror she'd release upon him. "Alright, so I'll just - do this. You see - I mean - Okay, well - we've been close for a long time, and you're important to me, so important. But for awhile now things just haven't been the same and there's - there's someone else so... I'd love for a way for us to still be close but not be dating anymore because it's not right to be with you if I've got feelings for another. You're amazing, Hales and I don't want to hurt you. I don't. I hate myself right now but I can't just let this go anymore hoping that it'll dissipate and go away. That's not fair to anyone. And, you know, I hope that you know I still want to be there for you when you need someone. I don't want to lose you completely."

But he probably was, wasn't he? That wasn't at all what he'd want but it was he who was being selfish here. It was he who was ending things. It wasn't his call to make.

Warning: Language and violence. Things happening were agreed with the fantastic writer of Simon Kincaid
Haley's index finger was still pressing against Simon's chest as she scowled at him, tears streaming down her face as she tried to stifle the sobs and process his words. She was a mess, she couldn't deny that. She didn't want to hear all this, but she had to hear it. She had to allow this once great love and relationship to end. She had to admit to herself that Simon had grown away from her, towards another new soul. A soul that was probably pure and not as broken as Haley's own. Could she really blame him? It was like children and their toys - you eventually put the broken one in the box and took the new one. She had to face the truth, but that truth broke her heart and caused her more pain than she had felt in a long time.

Not once did her gaze change, she looked him in the eye the whole time, because she had to see that he was telling the truth. And he did. The tears continued to flow, her lower lip quivered as she tried to suppress her crying. She was infinitely sad but at the same time infinitely angry. Mad at herself and mad at Simon. She didn't care whether this anger was justified. Her vision was clouded with pain and for her, the person opposite her was the cause of this pain. So the anger was directed at him too.

She took a deep breath and through gritted teeth spoke as calmly as her breathing allowed, "Don't say I'm important to you. Don't tell me I'm amazing. AND ABOVE ALL, don't say you don't want to hurt me!" with the last words she released her finger from his chest again and took a few steps back. "You broke my heart." She whispered softly now and directed her gaze towards the ground. "You broke my heart." She repeated a little more softly followed by a loud sob.

But she would not weaken, no weaker than she already was at that moment. She raised her gaze again and looked straight into his eyes. "I hate you Simon Ezra Kincaid." It was a lie but the truth at the same time. She loved him but at the same time she hated him in that moment and probably would in many moments to come. She wanted to hate him, she didn't want to love him. How could she love someone who hurt her so much now? Well dear Haley Rose, that's what love is.

Full of anger and sadness, she turned and paused for a moment. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "It's over. You did lose me." She said now in a calm voice. But she was anything but calm, her blood was boiling inside her and she wanted to scream. Scream and bang against the walls. She wanted to curl up in her bed, crying pathetically and punching her pillows. She had to get out of here. As quickly as possible and just as she gave her feet the order to take her to Gryffindor Tower they did something else. They turned, her fists clenched, something she herself hadn't realised until that moment, and a challenge she had once received from Charles popped into her head.

No, she couldn't do that. Yes you can, replied the sassy Haley in her. That's exactly what you can do. Without giving it a second thought, she looked at Simon with rage, her right arm lunged backwards and instead of hitting the stone wall, she aimed for his nose. Snap. "Oh fuck." She cursed and held her fist. If she had known beforehand that it hurt so much to hit someone, she would have thought about it longer. She looked at her fist and it seemed she had hurt herself more than Simon with it and at the same time she realised what she had done. She had never punched anyone before and she was shocked at herself. Completely beside herself, she looked from her fist to Simon and back again. "I- I'm..." she couldn't say it but she was sorry.

Shocked, she turned and ran. She ran as fast as she could and fled into the Gryffindor common room and straight to her dorm. Ignoring all the stares and mutterings, she grabbed parchment and a quill from her drawer and locked herself in the bathroom. There she let her feelings run free. She cried bitterly, she screamed and she laughed. Yes, Haley Rose sat in the bathroom with a broken heart and laughed. She laughed at herself crying so bitterly and actually punching the boy she actually loved. It took some time for her to calm down and when she did she took pen and parchment to record tonight.

Nooooo with @Haley Rose

No where did he expect this conversation to go well but he wasn't at all prepared to hear the things that Haley said to him. She was intelligent and she used her words to cut him deeply. You broke my heart. I hate you. You did lose me.

It would be those words that would numb him to the physical pain that was to come when her fist met his face, more specifically his nose. He heard the snap the moment it happened. He brought his hand up to it quickly, feeling the stream of blood that began to flow. His eyes looked up to meet hers but she quickly turned and rushed off. He wouldn't follow her this time.

He couldn't.

He had said his piece and the damage was done.

Simon knew this night wasn't going to end well but he didn't think this was how it was going to go down. As he made his way down a staircase toward the Hospital Wing. He would end this Valentine's Day; he would end this 13th Birthday in the Hospital Wing where magic could quickly fix his broken nose.

The Hufflepuff was reminded of a Biblical verse, Isaiah 41:10 to aid in one's strength: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee' yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

This breakup had been so distressing, demoralizing, and depressing and he wasn't sure how he was going to be able to handle it. Still, no matter how unbearable the pain seemed right now, he would be endowed with strength so that one day he could conquer and triumph over it - eventually. Magic couldn't fix a broken heart.
