Breakfast was one of Nessie’s favorite parts of Hogwarts – the grandeur of the Great Hall hadn’t worn off for the first year, and she had not yet tired of the options available, which were more varied than what she’d usually had at home. She’d practically skipped into the hall, her mood bright and sunshine-y like the sky-ceiling above, and then taken a seat at her house’s table at random. Nessie began to assemble her plate, grabbing first from the platters nearest to her: a sausage here, a slice of bacon there, some potatoes and …

Where was the toast?!?

She paused, looking around in confusion, only to realize that she’d somehow picked a seat that was just about as far as possible from any of the toast. Nessie bit her lip as she contemplated her options. She could awkwardly dive across the table and hope for the best – best case she’d end up with her arm covered in bacon grease and potatoes, worst case she’d spill the juice. She could try to relocate to a seat with better toast positioning, but that seemed even more awkward. Admittedly, awkward was somewhat typical for Nessie, so perhaps nobody would think anything of it?

But the only idea she’d had worth considering was to ask for help. “Would someone pass the toast please? Or toss me a slice or two maybe?” she squeaked nervously, looking around at her housemates and hoping someone might oblige.

Passing the toast to @Nessie Swansea
Great Hall, the most favourite place of Roseline. She liked the sky of the Great Hall more than the food served. She liked it so much, that she could spend days after days looking at the sky. The décor was so realistic, that no one will ever know that Hogwarts contained ceilings.
Roseline made her way to the Great Hall that morning. She was again excited to see the sky and enjoy it's delicious food.
She chose a random seat and sat there, took some helpings of food and looked up, at the sky, totally immersed in it.

“Would someone pass the toast please? Or toss me a slice or two maybe?”

Roseline looked towards her left, a few seats away was a girl asking for passing the toasts.
"Yes, of course." Roseline replied, friendly.
She took a plate containing some toasts and passed it to her.
"You can take as much as you want." said Roseline. She didn't knew if her voice reached the girl clearly or not. So, she decided to sit next to the girl and introduce herself.
Hopefully, Roseline saw an empty seat just next to that of the girl.
She took her plate and went towards the seat. While settling down, Roseline said, "Hello, myself Roseline MoonShine. A first year." Roseline said, smiling broadly.

The brief pause after Nessie had asked for help seemed to stretch on infinitely – it was a mere moment, but for Nessie it felt like an eon. What if nobody had heard her? Or worse, what if nobody wanted to help her? What if she wasn’t supposed to be asking this? What if she was just supposed to be eating what she could reach? Nessie had noticed there were a few unspoken rules of Hogwarts, and maybe this was another one of them and maybe she’d just unknowingly broken it?!

Fortunately, one of her fellow first years responded before Nessie’s overthinking could spiral any further. “Thanks,” Nessie replied, genuinely relieved, as she reached out to take the plate. Nessie wasn’t picky, so she grabbed the two slices that were most conveniently positioned top, dropped the toasts on her own plate, and set the toast plate back down nearby.

Nessie was prepared to eat her breakfast in relative silence, which she didn’t really mind because it wasn’t like she could talk and eat at the same time anyways. She had looked down at her food, and was surprised when she looked back up to notice that the toast-passing girl had joined her. “Nice to meet you! I’m Nessie,” she replied.

She considered what she might say next – she was not very good at small talk yet, but she was intending to give it her best try. Nessie had opened her mouth to ask what Roseline thought of their shared classes, and then it hit her: she hadn’t done the homework for their next class yet. “Oh no!” she yelped. “Sorry, I have to go! I forgot about the essay!” Nessie explained frantically, picking up the toast to take with her as she got up from her seat and prepared to hurry away to hopefully remedy her situation if it wasn’t too late.

“Thanks again for the toast!”

Nessie leaves.
(I noticed Roseline's user no longer exists, so I'm wrapping this up here for a little closure.)
