First year on the Hogearts Express

Natasha felt that she had entered the best compartment after hearing Lucy's reply. "Surely it's not rude Lucy, I too love books. Don't worry, you have spoken to me and so I will make you to speak with everyone and make it your nature." and she laughed.

When Lucy was okay with Katelynn join them, even before she could fit in herself, one boy with white hair and sharp blue eyes opened the compartment and scanned us like a muggle machine. It was like adding more flavors to the food and the food becoming delicious. Nat cut Lucy half way,"The conversation becomes more interesting when a boy joins, try to fit in and make yourself comfortable", she told the boy who was standing in a good posture.

And there went the conversation to it's interesting point-Introducing herself to new faces. It was so exciting for her to hear Katelynn, a muggle born speak ,'fiction' 'didn’t really exist'. "It's so interesting to hear about the magical world from the other universe tho...Kat. Is it okay if I call you that?"

"I'm Natasha Schneider from England."

She noticed that Kim saw Katelynn, and guessed that he must be a pure-blood by the way he saw the muggle.

She never wanted to start a blood fight here because she is half-blood and she respects both. She hoped she would never be put in a position to support any one, if so she would never choose among them.

She hoped for this journey to go well or send that boy out of the compartment.

There is a big difference between not being able to live without someone and loving them.

Cloudy looked at everyone curiously. She was still very much uncomfortable at speaking- it wasn’t that she was shy or scared, she just wasn't the type to be interested in the situations of others. She preferred to observe instead. It was her thing. If you observed something, there was a higher possibility you could get something out of it than if, for example, you acted out.

Pureblood, she thought to herself when she saw the boy in the compartment glance curiously at the Muggle-born Katelynn. Not that Cloudy had anything specific against muggle-borns. Afterall, her father was a muggle himself, and Cloudy loved talking to him.
Cloudy remembered what her Mother had said about purebloods: Some were nice. Some were pricks.
“If you ever see a pureblood, and they seem like a nice person, be friends with them at all costs,” Cloudy’s mom would say. “They are smart, they are brave, and they listen. Unless they are pricks. Do not befriend the pricks.”

Cloudy let the boy haul up her luggage, thanking him. It wasn’t necessary, but it was a nice thing to do regardless, and Cloudy appreciated people who did nice things. One of the many girls in the compartment started speaking- Cloudy glanced over at her.

“I’m Natasha from England." the girl spoke. Her voice had a noticeable British accent.
Cloudy made a small yawn. “Cloudy Bigwolf.” She said, sitting straight up in her seat. She toyed with her fingers as she waited. “I’m also from England.” But I’m more Asian than anything, she muttered inside her mind. She contemplated on whether to say so or not. The boy had Asian features, so she guessed they were from the same region.

Laziness was a sin. Cloudy felt hungry. She hadn’t eaten anything for breakfast- her mother conjured up an apple, but she didn’t have her appetite at the time. However, now she was starting to regret it. Cloudy’s mom told her there was a trolley. She told her it would be filled with the most delicious sweets and pastries, and she only needed to wait a bit.

Cloudy looked outside the window, her eyes brushing over the drabby scenery, which was slowly starting to melt away into a beautiful forest background. She hoped the trolley would appear soon. She was starving.

Leaving that pureblood aside was the better option for Nat rather than being annoyed by him. She was perplexed to hear 'I’m also from England.' because she taught that girl will never speak to anyone. "That so good to hear. Very happy to find someone from the same place, Cloudy." recalling the name was a tougher task for her now, as she had heard many names. Nat received a smile in return, and she knew it was a bigger thing for that pink haired girl to give. She liked that girl because she was so silent, which challenged Nat to change her (surely in a good way) as a talkative girl like her. Hope she talks to her after 2 conversations.

Her eyes was fixed on Cloudy so that pureblood doesn't get her veins. She saw Cloudy look at the window. The nature is the most beautiful and yet has the complex structure in the world for both magic and muggle. She also saw the beautiful sight. Hoping anyone would continue the topic or start a new one.

After a long silent travel, she started a new topic with a question."So, In which house you guys wish to be sorted in?" Hoping someone would answer and ask her wish too...

There is a big difference between not being able to live without someone and loving them.

Katelynn listened to the girls from England talking to each other. She felt a little weird, being from Scotland herself. She guessed that her accent was probably pretty obvious. So not only was she a Muggle-born, but now she was also the outcast as far as where they were from went. She nervously looked from one girl to the next and then looked over at the boy. “Hey, do you want to go see if we can find that food trolly? I’ve heard it’s supposed to have some great stuff on it, and I can’t wait to see what these Wizarding Cards are all about…”

She was desperately trying to get the subject off of herself. Kate wasn’t really one to be in the center of the conversation, and she had to admit it felt a little weird. Her uncle had warned her, though, of the fact that some people would look down on her because her parents weren’t magical. She could only hope that they would look past that and actually get to know her for who she was. Kate stood nervously and said, “I’m gonna wander around a bit.” She hoped the boy would follow her, if he was interested.

After putting the two trunks up above, Kim sat down. A normal boy would engage in conversation and show interest in those he was speaking to. But Kim tended to keep to himself and rarely spoke to strangers, as he disliked having to participate in small talk. On the other hand, listening and retaining information was a skill of his. Despite his apparent disinterest in those around him, he was actually paying close attention to what others said.

Therefore, if a question was directed at him, he would be able to instantly respond to them.

Natasha went on to continue her conversation with Katelynn and Cloudy and Kim continued to watch them silently from his current position. So, both Natasha and Cloudy were from England. That didn't come as much of a surprise. If they were attending Hogwarts, it was highly likely they would live in England as it would be the most convenient for their parents. So the ones in the compartment were Lucy, Natasha, Katelynn and Cloudy. All of them girls.

He made a mental note.

Come to think of it, he hadn't seen any boys on the train to Hogwarts.

Could it be possible that almost all the First Years this year would be girls? Kim wasn't sure what he thought about this but as long as he didn't need to have a same sex partner for classes, he supposed it didn't matter. As for the dorms, he didn't mind having to stay alone in his room. Being alone did have its advantages. He returned his attention back to the present when he sensed someone looking over at him. Natasha and Cloudy were still talking together.

It was Katelynn. Kim looked up and met Katelynn's eyes. "Mm. They usually come to us but you can go to them too. Let's go!" Kim stood up and waited for Katelynn before the two set off down the small pathway in search of the trolley witch. Once they spotted the cart that was filled with goodies, Kim glanced back over at Katelynn. "If you're interested in the Wizarding Cards, I'd suggest you get a box of chocolate frogs." He advised her.

Not to mention the fact that they were quite tasty too.

They always come with one of the cards and there are students who are open to trading cards if you want one that you don't have." He told her.

It was the most he had spoken so far but that was because he was actually explaining something to Katelynn. "If you get one though, make sure you eat them right away. If you don't, you might lose them as they tend to jump away like real frogs." The trolley witch was currently helping another compartment filled with girls but would soon be free to help them. Kim didn't think he'd get anything for now. He wanted to save his money.

Katelynn decided to let the girls talk and followed Kim down the middle of the train. The pathway? Aisle? She wasn’t really sure what it was called. “I have some money that my uncle gave me… from his vault in Gringotts. Have you ever been in Gringotts? It’s pretty fascinating, really. He’s the one who told me about this place, this wizarding world. I had no idea I was a witch until I got my letter! Did you know about any of this? Well, you must if you know about wizard cards and stuff. I started reading as soon as I got the letter, so I could learn about some of the things. Nothing about classes of course, but like cards and… and Quidditch Through the Ages. Have you ever been to a Quidditch game?”

She realized she was rambling and bit her lip. “Sorry, I’m just excited to finally have someone to talk to about all this… I really don’t mean to ramble so much!” She looked around for the cart lady and then asked, “What’s your favourite thing to get from the wizarding candy shops?”

Katelynn had a lot of questions, she knew. She just hoped the boy wasn’t getting annoyed with all of them. After all, she’d only just discovered this whole world recently… it was natural to have questions, right?

Katelynn mentioned Gringotts and asked if he'd ever been there and Kim's lips twitched with amusement. "Of course. It's where all wizards store their wealth." Everyone had a vault at Gringotts. If they didn't, it wasn't possible to get one's school supplies in Diagon Alley. Then again, Kim wasn't entirely sure how full-blown muggles tended to get their hands on wizard currency. After all, it wasn't as if they were aware of the wizarding world being real.

She mentioned that her uncle had been the one to give her the currency and told her about the wizarding world and Kim nodded. "So, are you muggle-born? Or was one of your parents one of us?" He asked, curious to know. From what she'd said before, Kim was guessing it was the former and not the latter. As Katelynn asked him if he'd known about any of this, he nodded a second time. "Both my parents attended Hogwarts." Kim told her.

He didn't go on to say much more.

But it was more than he'd told anyone else he'd met on the train so far.

Kim wasn't sure why, but for some reason Katelynn was someone he felt as if he wanted to look after. Much like a little sister. He idly wondered if that feeling would change once they got to Hogwarts, was it a fleeting emotion or one that would remain for a long time? Only time would tell, he supposed. And then, Katelynn had to mention the one thing that scared him more than anything else. Quidditch. It wasn't really the game he hated but the flying part.

Flying implied being above the ground. Being above the ground implied you were slowly rising up into the air and gaining more distance between you and the ground down below.

Not good.

Kim shook his head and reached up to run a hand through his white hair. "...mm. It was alright." He muttered, not about to tell her that he'd spent the entire time eating food or burying his face in his hands. Quidditch games were loud and crowded and Kim didn't deal well with crowds. Plus, seeing players so high above the ground made him a bit nervous. He glanced over at Katelynn as she suddenly started to apologize for rambling on about things.

Well, he couldn't blame her, muggles were always so interested about things they knew nothing about. And she seemed excited about this new world that had just opened up to her, which was understandable. Thankfully, Katelynn turned the conversation away from Quidditch and asked him what his favorite sweet was from the wizarding candy shops. That was a question he could answer! "I like anything with chocolate in it." He told Katelynn.

I really can't get enough of it." It was so delicious.

He let his eyes flicker over the trolley cart a few steps in front of them.

"Like I said before, into you're into wizarding cards, you should get a box of chocolate frogs. They are really popular and you're guaranteed to get a card every time you purchase one. And of course, they're quite tasty too." Kim let his eyes flicker over the contents of the trolley cart as the witch turned towards them and asked what they wanted. "But one of my favorites are the chocoballs." They were delicious.

Really damn good.

Chocoballs were a large chocolate sweet with a heavy filling of strawberry mousse and clotted cream. They tasted divine. Kim made a face. He hadn't intended on getting anything before.

But now that he was talking about the sweets, he had a craving for some.

Eh, the train ride was pretty long, he might as well grab something to hold him over. Kim purchased two chocoballs, a box of chocolate frogs and three sugar quills. He handed one of the chocoballs and a sugar quill over to Katelynn. "Try one, see what you think." The boy had to admit he was curious as to what she would think of it. He hadn't offered a chocolate frog to her because she'd said she had some money and would probably have purchased one.

Going from what she'd mentioned before, the wizards cards, Kim was certain she would have purchased a box herself. So there really was no need to offer her one of his and he kind of wanted to save the box for a snack later on after the Sorting Ceremony was done. There was nothing like snacking on sweets late at night when you were supposed to go to bed. Kim unwrapped his chocoball and bit into it, relishing the sweet cream and fruit flavored mousse.

God that was good.

"Save the sugar quill for when you get to Hogwarts. You can nibble on it in class and the teachers probably won't realize it's not an actual quill." Kim told her.

First year on the Hogearts Express
Cloudy sat in a small corner of the room, nibbling on a Chocolate Frog. The poor thing wriggled and moved its legs as it was trying to escape from its sad fate, but no avail. Cloudy tossed the frog into the air, titled her head up, and bit down on the frog as it fell into her open mouth. The warm taste of roasted cacao spread across Cloudy's tongue and she smiled, satisfied.
It was funny. After the other students left, the trolley witch had ironically passed by their compartment. Cloudy bought a couple of goodies. No, scratch that. She bought a basketful. Cloudy made a tiny yawn before tossing a pumpkin pastry into her mouth. Mmmm. She licked her lips. Not as bad as she'd thought.
Her hands kept moving, shoving more food items into her mouth. This would continue until she was full. Cloudy wondered when the other students would return.
The pureblood boy acted curiously with the Muggle-born, Cloudy noted. The labels were rude, but Cloudy was too lazy to care. The pureblood boy probably wasn't one of those traditional Slytherin types, she thought to herself. Not a old family conservative. Mother would be glad. Not that it mattered.
Cloudy sighed.
Her mother wanted Cloudy to go to Hufflepuff. Cloudy also wanted to go there, so there was no conflict of interest. Hufflepuff was for the hard-working, not for the amazingly talented, instead it was for the most mundane of people. However, many times these mundane people could accomplish something greater than what was thought possible. Cloudy loved people who worked hard. She thought they were beautiful. Even if all seemed hopeless, they kept trying, and in the end, like the race with the tortoise and the rabbit, they came out on top.
Cloudy bit into another Chocolate Frog that squirmed in her mouth. Cloudy ignored the movement, letting the thing struggle. It gave a feeling of freshness, besides, the chocolate was high quality. Chocolate frogs were Cloudy's favorite.
It was a shame. Cloudy's father, after hearing the descriptions of the four houses, had given his opinion: Wouldn't Cloudy be sorted into either Ravenclaw or Slytherin? Her quiet, curious, slyness seemed to match those houses. Cloudy was not hardworking or couragous. She wasn't the type to sacrifice herself for a friend, or work hard for a cause. She was lazy, she was selfish, and Cloudy knew it. Maybe if she asked nicely, the hat would let her go to Hufflepuff.
Cloudy rubbed her knuckles. She looked at the cards she had gotten, then picked them all up and put them into her pocket. She would put them on auction later.
In the end, Houses didn't really matter. All that mattered was getting a good education. The prejudice between houses had decreased along the years. Cloudy didn't care much for groupings- maybe it would help with connections, she mused. She was bad at those. Urgh. Her head.
Cloudy closed her eyes. Maybe the kids would return. Maybe not. The other compartments were mostly full, so Cloudy guessed they would. Or they would have to face the sad fate of squeezing in a compartment filled with eight people. Someone would have to sit on the ground. Cloudy giggled at the thought. She opened a book as she waited, the Book of Potions she had been holding for some time.
Flipping through the pages, Cloudy enjoyed the peace and quiet that she suspected would be broken quite soon.

First year on the Hogearts Express
Nat looked at Cloudy and smiled who was busy eating. How could have she forgotten about the chocolates that she brought?? She opened her bag and was pleased to find her love peacefully sleeping inside the bag. So, now that peace is shattered. She took the Chocolate Frog and tossed it into her mouth, she would never let them escape because she was an expert in handling them. The frog melted in her mouth. She also saw Cloudy eating the same, so there is no point in sharing it with her because she has her own.

Katelynn and Kim are yet to return, which was a peace for her. She saved some chocolates to eat at night in the Gryffindor's dormitory. That's the house she would be placed because her brother and her mother belonged to that house. She had no second opinion about that. Lucy was silent, she doesn't want to disturb her (only because her mouth was melting with chocolates).

The entire compartment felt quiet. This created a good mood in her, she grabbed a book from her bag. It was her favorite subject 'Herbology'. After seeing the book she smiled, and now she doesn't want anyone to disturb her, she would not even bother even if the train goes off track!

There is a big difference between not being able to live without someone and loving them.

First year on the Hogearts Express
Cloudy felt the atmosphere was looking up. She looked sideways to see Natasha opening a book- Herbology, Cloudy noticed. She approved. Herbology was truly a fascinating subject, and more importantly, it was nice to see her friend was also just as interested in her academic score as she was. As Cloudy's father taught her, she needed to make friends with the 'good sort'. And avoid the bad sort, obviously. Natasha clearly was one of the good sorts.

She wondered what the classes would be like at school. Would it be like the previous elementary school? Posh, with difficult studies and extreme competition? Or would it be more relaxed? Laid-back and less focused on results? Magic was an extremely unique and interesting subject that held plenty of potential- Cloudy hoped classes would dwell more on that, perhaps merged with the power of science, it would become possible for humans to achieve realms thought to be impossible.

Cloudy set aside her ambition temporarily and a small smile crossed her lips as she waited for everyone else to come back to the compartment. The food was mostly gone by now, except for a few extra chocolates she stuffed into her pocket. Beautiful scenery passed by, and Cloudy wondered when the ride would end. Quite a while had passed since the boarding, and the ride couldn't go on forever. Having completed her quick scan of the Potions book, she sat and lamented on the decision to not buy the second volume.

It was then that Cloudy heard the compartment door open.
