Cody was on a rampage. Their original strategy was more focused. But the Hufflepuff boy was picking targets at seemingly random. At least he had the mind to not hit his own teammates with flames—for now.

Della turned to Vale. She nodded at the Slytherin. Maybe she could convince Vale to get her head back in the game. In return, Vale sent a spell toward Clair. Perfect. That hadn't been their original strategy, but it was better than Vale hunting for bugs for who knows what purpose. Della internally shivered at the thought of what Vale's plan might be for an insect she found in the middle of battle.

After shaking away those thoughts, Della eyed the dueling field. Avery was bogied and Liana looked exhausted. She instead focused on Hunter, who had arrogantly sat in the middle of the duel. She sent him some bubbles, hoping the seemingly simple spell might throw him off his game.

In another strange move, the Ravenclaw boy then attempted to extinguish Cody's flame now covering the miserable Avery Chen. Odd. Della steeled herself. Had the other teams made some sort of temporary alliance while hers was in the smoke? Was Hunter rogue? Or did Liana have something sneaky up her sleeve?

----Vale missed, but it didn't stop her excitement and glee. She even danced as she laughed. Destroying the world around herself was always enough to please her bloodthirsty bones.

"Hunter, you sure got some great dance moves going on! Maybe you can show me how you do it when we get ice cream together!" Vale clapped her hands as chaos reigned around her. It was like a dream come true for her little anarchist mind. Her crackling would refuse to stop.

Prehaps this school wasn't so boring after all. At least her peers weren't. But still, such a place like this was ever so restricting for Vale's hunger for any form of knowledge. It was like the adults feared the lives of children being lost, but can never be found when matters are dire.

All the more excitement for Vale then.

The young girl looked back to the stands that held her dolls, watching her in their eerie manner. Some, gifts from her loving mother, and some new and most likely should have never came into Vale's possession to begin with. But they were there, and most definetely her own now.

"Ashes! Stop staring at the girls! You know they don't like that!" She made a shout to one of her dolls, who didn't seem to do anything that provoked such a shout from across the duelling area. Yet, like it was on cue, the doll slumped down on the bench. Whether or not this was a matter of coincidence, is up to those who knew Vale and the truth behind the possibility of her carrying around cursed dolls.

Chaos. True and utter chaos, as instinct and improvisation took over from any semblance of a plan that the participants might have come in with. Cody ran amok, casting a jinx at Draven. The Slytherin boy, despite being distracted by what seemed like a never-ending sneezes, had the presence of mind to trigger the one of the team runes. Cody’s jinx splattered harmlessly against a strong protego.

Della sent another of her signature Dancing spells at Hunter, causing the boy’s feet to spasm uncontrollably. The Ravenclaw boy, amidst the cage of bubbles was now doing a tap dance at an impossible tempo. To make the dance even more impressive, his rapidly beating feet would push the bespectacled boy into a backflip every once in a while. The first such backflip would end up with Hunter perilously close to Liana, who flinched back in surprise and stepped onto their team’s second rune.

Oooooh, was that an accident?

The oddities would continue though as the Ravenclaw boy would actually extinguish the flames that had caught Avery’s clothes. Avery, sent a spell back at the half-goblin. Oozing not and looking increasingly unwell, Avery’s spell flew wide. Perhaps it was the nausea setting in? Ming had read that people passed out under the effects of the spell.

Clair, meanwhile, cast a well-aimed curse at Hunter who managed to backflip out of the trajectory of the spell. The backflip was such a fluid, natural part of the ‘dance’, that Ming was left uncertain if that was an intentional dodge, or fortuitous timing.

And then there was the force of nature that was Vale Ashwood. If Hunter was an oddball and Cody a little goblin of chaos, then Vale was the spirit of bloodlust. Laughing, dancing, cackling in glee like some war-drunk Valkyrie, the little girl cast, talked, taunted and scolded. It was an unreal experience, made more unreal as the spell that was aimed at Clair flew wide, right past the Ravenclaw girl and right at Liana, just as she flinched onto the runic sphere. The redheaded Slytherin prodigy, didn’t so much as flinch from the spell, batting it out of the way with her wand.

“That’s half your time, teams!” Ming announced, before turning his attention back towards the Gryffindor Prefect. Miss Evelynn made an interesting point about casting under pressure. Ming himself had plans to work on that himself.
“Avery?” It was a moment of honest surprise, as Ming did not really think of his friend as an able caster. Avery was a good friend, trustworthy and cheerful and hardworking. But much like Ming himself, magic was not the boy’s first instinct, and it often showed.

A pause, as he considered the idea of Avery as the one to watch out for. “He’s definitely got a good head on his shoulders. And he’s doing the best job of leading his team….”

…but did that make him a good caster? A moment as Ming ran the duel through his mind

“Respectfully. I disagree. Not that I don’t think that Avery is doing very well, but success doesn’t translate to skill. Mr. Mirador’s aim looks to be better than Avery’s. Even D- Ms. Barfield’s spells end up where she wants them more often than Avery.” Avery's Acc outcomes, on average, have been slightly lower than Draven's and Della's. This is probably not the most appropriate measure to judge effectiveness, but that's lost of Ming.

Not wanting to linger on this disagreement, Ming pushed on to another topic. “Mr. Argentium is an unexpected find, I admit. But his personality is surprisingly reminiscent of Ms. Ashwood’s.”

Clair was rather amazed at how Hunter did a.... back flip? she had missed yet again, and she was also getting annoyed, that backflip looked unreal, almost like it was just part of Hunter's moves, she partly wondered if someone had cast some kind of spell to make Hunter unable to be hit, was there even a spell to do that? Clair took a second to clear her mind, she needed to slow down, take a breath and Aim at her target, she had to do better then she was doing, during her half a second break somehow Maggie hit Clair, ick.
It bugged Clair that she had been hit, Clair so badly wanted to hit herself, but she had already been hit; by a spell.
she needed to get into this, she needed to turn on her want to win, she needed it to click into 5th gear, as she worked on making herself want to smash the other teams (with spells of course) she finally felt her blood starting to pump, as the excitement rushed through her, she just had to hit, she aimed her wand as best as she good while she did her little thing (thanks Maggie.)

Even amidst the quickly-engulfing flames, Avery could only think about getting back at Cody at that very moment. Wand pointed towards the half-goblin, he completed a well-cast Dancing Feet Spell, only to miss completely. "Darn it, Cody! Why are you so small!" he hollered in frustration before giving up on the little brat as the flames scorched and burned. He expected to cast an Extinguo soon, but the flames were quickly doused by someone else. Avery looked up with an expression of gratitude for his considerate savior, only to meet the gaze of Hunter Argentum.

Awkward.

Did his self-proclaimed competitor just rescue him? Face flushed (from a combination of embarrassment, the effects of Incendio, and from being emotionally moved), Avery murmured a brief "Thank you" while patting down his robes and wiping his nose on his sleeve, since Draven's handkerchief was now completely soaked. Then, he lifted his gaze to meet Hunter's eyes. "This doesn't mean I completely forgive you, though," he warned. True, Hunter performed an act of generosity, but the way that Vale just shrieked about getting ice cream with Hunter was still on Avery's mind and nerves. One can't help but feel sorry for Hunter; was there anything that the boy could do to get on Avery's best side?

Soon enough, a searing headache broke through his train of thought, almost hurting as much as Jorah's bludger. A wave of nausea rushed over him, and the vomited onto the floor, perhaps spattering a few shoes. Tears formed as the acid burned his throat, the mucus stifled his sinuses, ears, and eyes, and the revulsion rose from his stomach to his head. It was only getting worse.

But, he better get his act together! Stumbling, he raised his wand on a target. Any target on the other side.

xxxxNow Hunter was just getting tired. He could feel the slight cramps in his feet and his chest grew tight and hot with each breath. It was like if Vale had landed a delayed Incendio of sorts on him or perhaps the flames were growing on the inside of Hunter's lungs rather than on his skin. Nonetheless, he looked over towards Avery and decided to douse the flames on him. Was it for forgiveness as Avery suggested? "I could care less for forgiveness, this is closer to pity," Hunter thought to himself. With that, he could see that Avery was already going through quite a bit as whatever he had to eat before this duel was now on the battlefield. Hunter felt slightly surprised, for the reason that he wasn't expecting his own curse to be that bad. After this duel, it was going to take a lot to convince Hunter to ever cast a curse at another student again.

It was a thought for later though, as Hunter began to see Clair's next shot coming straight towards him. This one came much closer, and Hunter's muscle instinct infused with magic is what saved him this time. His feet felt like they were searing on fire due to the amount of tarantallegra's he had to endure the past couple of turns. Another one landed on Hunter, but it seemed to have been more helpful than dangerous. Searing pain and boiling blood, Hunter's muscles swiftly acted on their own much faster than his own thought process. A rather swift and quick backflip overcame Hunter that by the time he landed he was just as surprised as anyone else who might have witnessed that. Before landing though, his feet had kicked one of the many bubbles surrounding him. It moved with strong force towards Liana and caused her to flinch or more closely what seemed like a dodge out of its way. Hunter was a bit surprised to notice that the bubble hadn't popped, and more surprised by Liana getting out of the way of Vale's spell. He couldn't tell if she moved because of him (meaning he saved her from an attack on accident) or if she had seen Vales attack incoming already and dodged the kicked bubble by chance.

Hunter then took a mental note of the bubble having not popped from his kick while the tapping of his feet merely increased with every second. At the end of that action though, he was glad that Liana had gone directly into their teams rune. Hunter was slightly annoyed by her comment that he should have used it.

He was fine, he thought at least. His breathes were soon developing into slight wheezes as he could still feel the slight push in his chest from Draven's attack.

Catching a weird movement to her side, Liana turned, concerned about Hunter and the multitude of spells that had hit him. Just then, the boy's legs performed a move that could have lead to her being kicked in the head; she instinctively jumped backward, stumbled slightly... and saw the ground underneath lighting up. In her flight from her teammate's wayward limbs she had stepped into the runic circle. The girl cursed under her breath as the healing spell soothed some of the pain her legs were feeling, reduced the tingle of a burn wound that one of the spells had left, and relieved the ache in her chest where a Knockback Jinx had hit. This had been a waste; she would be experiencing all of those injuries and more soon enough.

As if on cue, a ray of an offensive spell flew her way from the direction of Team Barfield. The redhead evaded it easily enough, rejoining her teammates on the platform that she shouldn't have left in the first place, a slight flush of embarrassment on her cheeks. She shot a suspicious glance at the Ravenclaw boy; did he intentionally startle her? Well, it didn't matter at this point. They could discuss his well-meaning insubordination afterwards.

Draven was starting to feel the effects of the hex, his movements growing sluggish and slow. He was still sneezing up a storm, eyes watering and head spinning. Well, it wasn't his head that was spinning, it was the room. The dueling hall had washed away, a white haze enveloping the room. Only ten minutes had passed, but he was starting to feel just a little bit ill.

It was through misty eyes and the ragged sneezes coming from both him and Mr. Chen, that the boy managed to spy a flash of red heading his way. From Cody Stevenson. A humorless laugh escaped the boy from between gasps for air, sidestepping onto the rune and activating it. The spell smashed against the invisible barrier, dissipating harmlessly to the side. If only the cursed sneezes would go away. A headache was gathering behind Draven's temples, shooting pains making it hard to concentrate on anything.

Slowly, relying on the protego rune to have his back for a moment longer, Draven clasped his head in his hands. Blocking out the too-bright light shining from the candles around the club, blocking out the noise and the confusion and the clamor of voices. Two seconds passed. Three. Four.

When he looked up again, his vision had cleared the tiniest bit. Well. It had cleared enough for him to see Hunter having extinguished Mr. Chen. HUH?.

"INCENDIO!" Cody cried, attempting to target the stupid boy who thought it was brilliant to go with his cousin to the Hogs Head... granted, they all got detention that day, and Cody so badly hoped that while he got thrown against the wall, both of Draven's feet were in someway, broken. But perhaps it was time for Cody to behave and be loyal to his captain. He was stupid for lashing out like that, but of course... he felt a compelled hate towards everyone he struck at.

But the time he begun to even consider it, he was apparently a target of Avery Chen's horrid dancing spell. "OI! DRAVEN AND AVERY. THINK OF SOMETHING LESS HUMILIATING AND PERHAPS YOU'D ACTUALLY HIT ME." He tried to mock them, but what truly made him angrier than hamburgers frying, was that Cody's Firemaking Spell, did not hit. At all. Well, it did, but it fizzled because of the damned protego rune that Draven activated.

"You know what? Screw this. DRAVEN AND AVERY. YOU TWO ARE BULLIES! BOTH OF YOU! What makes you think that I'm a punching bag? I'm certainly not a dancer, and I shall never dance for anyone!" He shed a fake tear, then smirked. If anyone cared, they'd notice a dramatic tone in his voice, symbolizing his dramatic message to the two "nerds."

"You nerds." Cody shot off. He would, of course, shoot off one more spell, then join Della and Vale, in whatever they were doing.

xxxxOh, thank god. Maggie's efforts were finally taken into account. The countless attempts to hit someone, to no avail, had finally paid off. Her spell hit Clair Fernandez, and Maggie grinned triumphantly, pumping a fist in the air; the one which held her wand. "Oh, thank you! Thank you thank you thank you!" She groaned loudly, grinning at the teammates around her. "Did you see that, Li? Hunter? You guys saw that?"

Looked like Maggie Hawkins wasn't as useless as she had initially thought, eh? Looked as if she were much more of an asset than initially considered!

"Sorry, Clair!" She wasn't, really, but starting rivalries with your opponents was really not the best way to win a fight, was it? Just made everyone angrier at you, and was pretty effective in making you the most despised individual in the game. No, best be a lovely, enjoyable person who everyone liked. And man, Maggie loved being well-liked.
