They had been doing pretty well earlier, but now their luck seemed to be plummeting. Rose lunged towards her wand, picking it up just as Alec sent a disarming spell towards Astrea. Unfortunately, the girl was able to slip out of the way. Two spells hit Alec. One, a blindfold. The other, a knockback jinx.

Her spirits, which had been high before, or at least higher than usual, nosedived. "Hang on!" she said to Alec as he nodded at her. They could recover from this, she told herself. At least she had her wand.

A flash of red struck Mason hard, dealing valuable damage, just as Astrea dodged a disarming charm from the targeted Gryffindor. Had the opposing spell hit, the Slytherin team would have been left floundering in much the same position as their opponents.

Astrea, intending to take full advantage of the temporary opening caused by her partner’s attack and taking a temporary page out of the metaphorical Gryffindor strategy book, had no hesitations in blindfolding the lion boy. One lion had retrieved their wand, but at what cost? Lady Luck and Sister Skill’s favours were in constant flux, but they could even the field with even a single well-made bout of spell work.

Piper's immediate instinct was to go for Rose, as she was defenseless and at a significant disadvantage. However, out of the corner of her eye she recognized Alec aiming his wand at Astrea. Without hesitation, the Slytherin cast the first spell that came to mind at his wand, skewing his aim and offering Astrea a gaping opportunity, which she gladly took. The magical energy familiarly flowed out of Piper and through her wand. Fortunately, she had had no spellcasting mishaps this round, though the flames had begun to creep closer to her skin. The white-hot heat was soon going to burn her, and her robes were definitely toast (no pun intended). Her poker face wasn't going to hold much longer if that fire burned her skin. Piper tapped her foot on the floor, anxiously waiting for the duel to end. The outcome could be even, depending on the further skills everyone would demonstrate.

Jake watched the Gryffindors as they regrouped, both of them realizing that things were getting serious. He thought that's what it seemed like from their faces at least...How were they going to fight back?

The answer was, they weren't, not yet.

Alec was the one with the blindfold, and it was he that drew the spellfire from the Slytherin team. Once again, they both attacked Alec. Maybe they were going to try to eliminate him from the battle before the blinded could really fight back. Could it be that? But what they might not have known was something Jake had learned last time: Alec was fast.

The Incendio Duo that was sent at him by Astrea was close, but it didn't hit its mark. Whether it was from the...heat? (Could you FEEL the fire from an incendio spell when it was coming towards you? Jake didn't really know, since he'd never had anybody cast it at him, and he hoped he never ever would) or just from instinct, Alec dodged nimbly out of the way. He would take the blindfold off of his head in one swift motion, but was unable to dodge the knockback spell sent in his direction from Piper. The Slytherin barrage was too quick to be avoided entirely.

Alec would feel himself pushed backwards once again, but he would feel a surge of energy as well. With her partner the target of the Slytherin offense, Rose had turned towards him to help him regroup, casting a powerful healing spell to keep him in the fight. Jake watched back and forth to see who was going to strike next. The Gryffindors had been taking the brunt of things, but maybe now was the time they were going to turn the tides, now that both of them were holding their wands and could see. The next attack was going to be very very important. Which way would the battle go?

All three spells that round were aimed at Alec Mason. Alec was miraculously able to dodge the spell that Astrea sent his way, which Rose recognized as a fire spell. Piper's aim was a little more true, and Alec's next dodge was not as reliable as Piper's aim. A knockback jinx hit him, right at the same time as Rose turned her own wand on him. "Reparifors," she said quietly, casting the healing spell on him. It seemed to work, and though he was a little bit less better off than before, Rose was glad she was able to help him at least some.

Alec ripped off his blindfold. It had almost seemed wrong for one of the Gryffindors to get blindfolded- that was one of their own tactics. But it didn't really matter that much. As long as they were hanging in there. And they were hanging in there.

Now both Gryffindors had their wands aimed at the Slytherins. Their wands were back, their vision was back. Their next move had to be carefully carried out for them to stay firmly in the game. "We've got this," she said quietly but firmly, not taking her eyes off of the girls on the other side of the stage.

It was the internal sense of something flying towards him, and he dodged. He was relieved he'd caught it in time, caught up in reveling in the victory of one dodged, he lost sight of the fact that there were in fact two duellists. One had yet to cast their spell. Alec sorely missed dodging and he was knocked back. Alec felt lucky that even though he was surprised, the flipendo wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Rose healed him and Alec breathed a sigh of relief as he managed to take off the blindfold.

Rose was right, they could do this. Maybe.

The male Gryffindor found himself struck with a knockback jinx just as an equally vibrant green spell did the same, calling into mind Newton's third law of motion. Each action had an equal and opposite reaction - it just so happened that this scenario meant that Mason was under the feeling of subtle whiplash as damage and healing settled into equilibrium. Astrea, whose spell had not met its mark, was an exception to this miracle of opposing teamwork.

More likely, it was the heat of the flame that warned her target of their impending ignition, blinded as he was. What a magical waste. But alas, she could not waste time pondering on the meaning of an admirable dodge when it disadvantaged them, especially now that all four duellists were spell-ready, with what Mason ripping off his blindfold. The playing field had been temporarily evened, though the Slytherin fourth-year was sure it was not to be for long.

The flames had finally extinguished, allowing Piper to breathe a sigh of relief. Astrea sent a magnificent-looking fire of her own towards Alec, but he somehow sensed it and moved in time. The anxiety and slight panic from the fire still remained deep in the pit of her stomach, alongside a vague form of indignation and amazement at Alec's blind dodge, but she used it to channel more energy into her spell at Alec. He couldn't escape too easily. It hit right on target - not squarely enough to be fully satisfying, but still decent. The Slytherin was personally quite proud of her hit record so far, although the fire had left her slightly winded. Keep it together. The fact that Gryffindor had regrouped was annoying, especially when Piper was mentally drained already, but victory was not unrealistic at all. She set her jaw. They could do this.
