Lea would redirect her attention to Mars, casting a bout of devastating flames in their directions, but Mars was not ready for a repeat performance. They would skillful evade having no intention of being set on fire a second time.

With the smoke from their partner clearing up and the pale mage not able to cast any spells Mars would fill the piste with smoke once more. It was a strategy working for them on and off in this duel.

Aida would do the only thing they could do, which was being prepared for any oncoming attack, but none would come for them as they felt their tongue loosen in their mouth once more. Autumn for a moment seemed as if they might have been ready to do something, but perhaps, at the last second, they chose to also dodge. Santario only hoped that they did not freeze up, leaving them as an unfortunately easy target.

Mars took a deep breath in as the smoke filled the stage once more, the tip of their wand pointed to the floor. They were so concentrated on the spell that they nearly missed the stream barreling at them. With a little yelp, they dove to the floor, watching the angry stream hit the back wall and sizzle out.

With a hiss, they pushed themselves back to their feet. Their wand had stopped belching smoke, petering out with a few final coughs. The field was dark again, three other figures shroud in the hazy. In the back of their mind, Mars had a sudden thought about Yu-Gi-Oh fields. Hopefully, no one's soul would be sealed in the shadow realm today.

They couldn't quite see, but it at least didn't seem like Aida was in any worse of a position. There were no orange flames dancing and when they'd taken their spectacular dive, it seemed no one else had hit the floor with them. Their opponents seemed quite unscathed as well. Or, as unscathed as you can be, dodging literal flames.

A sudden call caught them a little off-guard. They laughed. "Of course," they replied, "What's a talent if you don't exploit it a little?" It was certainly true. Without Aida's uncanny vision, they'd probably be in a much worse place.

Blowing a strand of hair from their face, Mars spun their wand back in position. The smoke stared back. They grinned.

As Autumn watched her Slowing Charm miss her target, watched her stormcloud disappear and got hit by the magical flames shooting from Aida's wand, she felt a certain type of hopelessness she wasn't all that familiar with. Something matter of fact and tired and scared and full of despair. And it was probably an overreaction. She knew it was. This was a duel, one round gone wrong. But the smoke made it hard to breathe, and the fire burned, and she didn't want to be there. She raised her wand, about to cast something, anything, but the words didn't come.

The fire kept burning, and the gradually weakening smoke became frustratingly impenetrable again. Autumn could feel her dejection turning into desperation. Good. The starving animal was often the most dangerous.

Trying to hit Mars- especially with the smoke- seemed to be a continuous challenge. While sometimes the hufflepuff would hit, it was getting frustrating being unable to see in front of herself or figure out where to aim for the ravenclaws. Did that mean the eagles had found a good strategy? Yes. But it also meant that Lea could be frustrated by it.

The hope was to get some sort retribution- a flame for a flame. But it was only a few moments after she cast that the second year realized there was no chance. And the smoke- which seemed to have almost vanished for a moment, returned. With a sigh, the hufflepuff would prepare for smoke and low visibility once more.

From the looks of it, Lea and Autumn did the things that they could do while under the effects of Fumos. Lea turned her wand onto her partner, spraying the fire that ate at her with a mist effect putting it out and offering Autumn some relief. Autumn it would appear had decided that she had taken enough damage. A soothing purple light would envelop her, giving her some relief from the pain.

Mars would decide to give the Badgers a taste of their own medicine and conjured their own threatening storm clouds above the girls’ heads. They would roll and rumble as lightning threateningly danced between them. Electric energy would begin to fill the air lifting the tiny hairs on the backs of everyone’s neck.

Santario could have sworn that Aida had been aiming for Autumn again, but it would seem that last-minute her wand would move to Lea. Maybe the smoke had been playing tricks on her eyes, or maybe Aida had changed her mind last minute, but Lea would only narrowly escape Aida’s flames of fury.

Autumn did not have a good track record of official duels. At the very least, her losses were consistent. It was almost as if she was cursed, to always be the first down. But there was a difference now. Now she knew Reparifors, and she refused to be the first duellist out. She was staying here, feet glued to the ground, wand in hand, come hell or high water.

Although she certainly felt some pride at herself as the spell she cast immediately soothed her and repaired some of the damage done, Autumn couldn't also help but feel grateful for her duelling partner putting out the fire that was slowly turning from something scary to a painful frustration. She mouthed a quick "thanks" before realising she was fully covered in fog and that Lea could not realistically see movement of her mouth-let alone transcribe it- and sighed. In the possible occurrence that there were any Legilimens in the room- she should have been used to the magic by now, after three years, but also mind readers were a thing and she'd have to be forgive if she wasn't yet used to that-, Autumn internally made a weak excuse about the smoke making her head feel clouded and dazy.

As she watched a storm cloud firm and rumble above her and Lea's heads, Autumn made another internal comment, this time laced with some colourful language that would certainly make any Legilimens in the vicinity blush.

It seemed most important that Autumn stay standing. And while Lea didn't know how to heal, she could certainly help put out a fire. Thank goodness it was a first year spell, but she had always wondered why fire was one of the beginning spells taught. Seemed... dangerous.

Regardless, learning to put out fires was coming in handy. And knowing how to dodge them as well. The spell had almost caught the hufflepuff by surprise, but smoke couldn't hide the bright oranges and yellows heading her direction. The second year quickly sidestepped the danger, happy that they had managed to keep two fires out. Thunder would rumble overhead- the new storm created was a danger, but no lightning would strike quite yet. Good.

Mars took a deep breath, casting their eyes to the sky as they yelled, " Metelojinx!" The sparks of power flew through their fingertips, bursting up and outward in a crash. They grinned as the cloud sparked, grumbling over the battlefield.

"Taste of your own medicine!" they hollered into the smog. Where anyone was, what anyone was doing, that was beyond them. It satisfied the little vindictive part of themselves to yell it, even if the smoke was their only audience.

A bright flash from their side did alert them though. It swerved through the air in a way uncommon for a talented mage—luckily, it didn't head for them, shooting off into the distance beyond. Mars laughed.

"Don't apologize!" they replied to Aida, "I have absolute faith in you." That much was true. As much as they hated to admit it, Aida was hard carrying. Blame it on the fog.

Mars shrugged, shaking off the thought. Oh well. At least they'd gotten to light Autumn on fire once. They raised their eyes to the rumbling cloud once more, smiling. Maybe... just one more time?
