They quickly noticed the Hogwarts express as they saw the clock on the wall nearing 11:00. Sophia said, “Let’s all try to be in the same train compartment.”

“No more dilly dallying children,” Charlotte said in her most motherly voice. It made all three of the girls burst out laughing.

“First, we need to actually board the train before it leaves without us!” Sophia exclaimed. Jillian started flipping out about 10 minutes ago, Charlotte and Sophia noted. The trio boarded the train, and 5 seconds later, the clock struck 11:00 and girls were officially on their way to Hogwarts. Right after they took their seats, Charlotte passed out the granola bars and water because they still hadn’t eaten breakfast.

“Phew!” Charlotte sighed in relief. Then, Charlotte jumped up again and examined what she had sat on. She pulled out a time-turner from the seat cushions and examined it. “Woah! I wish I had a time-turner like this. I feel bad for whoever lost it.” However, she immediately turned as white as a ghost.

“What’s wrong?” Sophia and Jillian asked as Jillian was eating one of the chocolate frogs she stole out of Charlotte’s backpack. Charlotte held up the side of the time-turner to reveal that “Charlotte Chambers” was written on the side. Now this was just plain creepy. The girls gasped, rubbed their eyes, and looked at it with wide eyes. Everyone was speechless, and the only other sounds were the voices of other people on the train having conversations.

Charlotte placed the time-turner around her neck, and it started to glow. Jillian, Sophia, and Charlotte were shocked by the crazy coincidence, and made many oohing and aahing noises. It astonished them, but at the same time, scared them.

“Maybe we should just have something to eat and drink to get our minds off it,” suggested Jillian, her mouth stuffed with chocolate frogs.

The train whistled a few times to signal its departure and then started off, slowly taking the students off to their destination. Kim headed for the nearest compartment to the entrance, not wanting to go out of his way to search for a place. At least not right now. He could explore after getting settled down. As he opened the sliding door, his blue eyes met with a pair of brown eyes.

And then his eyes flickered over to Charlotte and the glowing time-turner around her neck. No words were spoken and after letting his eyes flicker over to Jillian and then back over to Sophia, the first person he'd laid eyes on, Kim finally spoke. But what he said wasn't addressing the glowing device. It was surprisingly a rather simple question. "Mind if I take a seat with you guys?"

Kim waited for a few seconds for permission but if nothing was said he would make his way further into the compartment and take a seat regardless. Once seated, he reached into his robes and took out a book, Magical Drafts and Potions. He looked out the window, watching as the scenery passed by and wondered how long it would take them to get to their eventual destination.

As long as Charlotte didn't actually use the glowing piece, he wouldn't say anything about it. Merely having such an object wasn't against the rules. But using it was, it would be classified as the use of underage magic. He didn't want to have any part with something like that and even being in the same compartment might implicate him somehow in a possible worst case scenario.

The girls didn't know the newcomer, and they felt slightly uncomfortable continuing their original conversation. After a long half hour pause, Charlotte finally cleared her throat and spoke. The newcomer sat next to Charlotte when he entered.

"Um... Hello," Charlotte mumbled. No response. She repeated it, a bit louder this time, but still no response. She turned back towards her friends and shrugged her shoulders. Then she gestured towards Sophia, indicating that she wanted her to try talking to him.

"Me?" Sophia whispered back. Charlotte nodded her head violently. Sophia was not confident at all, but she still made an effort. "Hello, sir. Umm... What are you reading. It must be a really good book if you're that into it." Sophia was just thinking fast and said the first thing that came to her mind. Luckily, she was able to get his attention. He placed a bookmark into his book and closed it. He sat up and slid the book across the table for her to see. "Magical Drafts and Potions," Sophia read aloud.

"Seems cool!" Jillian blurt out.

Charlotte spoke up again, more confident this time, "Oh, hey. You never told us your name. What is it?"

He slid his book back into his suitcase and stuffed it away. Then he turned to face Charlotte.

Since Charlotte's first words were mumbled, Kim didn't respond to her words. The second attempt was more audible but she wasn't really asking him anything in particular, so Kim didn't feel the need to reply. It was only when Sophia spoke, actually asking him a question this time, that he looked up at her. He didn't respond at first and simply gazed at her for a few seconds.

What was she trying to do? Was she really interested, or was she just trying to start up a conversation? After another few seconds, Kim placed the book down onto the table and raised it a little so that it was vertical on the surface. As Sophia looked at the cover and read out the title, Kim picked it up again and placed it over to the side. "You should have brought it too." He said.

"It's one of the required books for First Years." He told her.

Kim wasn't sure if she was a First Year, but from the way she was acting it definitely seemed like it to him. Charlotte spoke up again and thankfully this time it wasn't idle conversation but an actual question, like Sophia. "Sato. Kim Sato." He told them and then picked up his book and started to read again. It wasn't as if he had anything to say to them. He didn't know them yet.

Sophia was about to take her copy of the book out of her trunk, but she noticed Kim had gone back to reading his book. She stuffed it back in, not wanting to disturb him. Sophia wondered if he was trying to be rude by going straight back to his book, but she eventually figured that he was probably a very nice guy.

However, she didn't really know him yet, and hoped that he would be just as nice as she pictured. Maybe they'd be sorted into the same house? Then she could really get to know him. But then Sophia thought of the worst case scenario, if they get sorted into the same house and he is extremely rude and impolite.

Sophia immediately shook the terrible thought out of her head and turned to look at her friends. Charlotte was reading Hogwarts: A History, and Jillian was busy gulping down chocolate frogs galore.

Sophia looked out the window and saw the castle off in the distance. "Looks like we're nearly there now," she announced. She turned to face Kim. "So, Kim, what house are you hoping to get sorted into? My friends and I are all hoping for Ravenclaw, but the sorting hat will decide."

Despite the fact that he was reading a book, it didn't escape his notice when Sophia tried taking a book out of her trunk but then stuffed it back inside again. He wondered why she hadn't stored her trunk above like all the other students but then realized it was probably because she couldn't handle the weight. If he'd been a gentleman he might have offered to help her do so, but Kim was already sitting down and comfortable. There was no need to ask.

The rest of the trip went by fairly quickly and during that time Kim had taken a short nap. It hadn't been planned but he ended up falling asleep while reading, due to the steady rhythm of the train. He blinked upon realizing someone was talking to him and glanced over. That was when it dawned on him that he didn't know their names. Not that it had really mattered at the time but now he was a bit curious. "You never told me your names." They really hadn't.

He reached up to scratch the side of his head.

The question was a good one, as it would determine the rest of his life at Hogwarts.

What House did he want to get sorted into? Well, that was complicated. It had even inspired his parents to fight eachother over this particular subject matter. Kwan, his mother, wanted him to get placed in Gryffindor, like she had been. But Hiro, his father, wanted him to become a Slytherin and make his former House proud of him. As for Kim himself, he couldn't decide between them and hoped the Sorting Hat would at least place him in one of those two Houses.

Otherwise conflicts would arise.

"Hm. I need to get placed in Gryffindor or Slytherin. If I get one of the other two Houses... let's just say it would not be good." He said with a sigh and cracked his neck.

Kim didn't want to volunteer any more information about himself to them. He was a really private kind of boy and it took a lot to get him to be forthcoming towards others. Thankfully, it seemed as if the Hogwarts Express was getting ready to pull up to its destination, so they wouldn't have much time left together. He wasn't sure if they would ever see eachother again but if it was meant to be, it was meant to be. As the train came to a halt, Kim stood up again.

He got his trunk down from where it had been stored above and glanced over at the girls.
