Cyrus couldn't stop walking, and that was because he couldn't stop thinking. He'd needed to get out of the school and away from the kids who weren't really his friends, and he had to think about the people he missed.
He sat down on the damp ground and sighed. Who was he kidding? He had come out here to think about the person he missed.
Cyrus sighed and stood up again, dusting off his trousers as he stared at the grey sky. He loved his country. He loved his school. He loved the weird weather that was somewhat predictable, but, like him, never quite what you expected. He had almost grown used to being away from the city, and being in the middle of nowhere was certainly a respite, even if the school he went to was swarming with children.
Despite Cyrus's loud demeanour, he had never been extroverted. He was friends with animals, mostly, and sometimes the wind, which he would swear talked in his ear.
And he was friends with Thea. Thea, who was an ocean away. Thea, who actually gave him the time of day when, time after time again, he made a fool of himself in front of her.
Thinking of her made a small smile tug at the edges of his lips. It was weird, probably, to be thinking of someone so far away. To be friends with someone so far away.
'Make more friends,' his parents would have told him, dismissing his concerns.
'Show them who you really are,' his Aunt Teresa would say instead, listening and trying to offer solutions.
The thing was, he wasn't quite sure if he wanted new friends. He liked the ones he'd had, back at his No-maj school... which he had left years ago. The friends he couldn't even see during the summer because he accompanied his aunt on all of her business trips. The only friend that was a somewhat constant person in his life was Thea, and it wasn't as if they could FaceTime. Wizards didn't like FaceTiming. They didn't like anything that was no-Maj created, and Cyrus didn't like that... But there was nothing he could do.
He let out a huff of breath in the cool air as his pacing slowed. He pulled out his wand - a stick about the length of his forearm, with areas pressed into it by his fingers due to how hard he gripped it.
There was one thing that made Cyrus feel better. It was a stupid thing, but Thea hadn't made fun of it (not like his parents had, and they had meant well, Cy was sure of it), so that meant it was okay. He was allowed to be abnormal. He didn't have to like Quidditch or roughhousing. He could just like ducks.
He imagined a mallard duck inside his head - its long, graceful (and green) neck, its regal beak, its strong wings - and bent down to pick up a stone from the ground. Cyrus had always rather enjoyed Transfiguration. It was almost like no-Maj maths and science, which he had always been pretty good at.
He set the rock in front of him and pointed his wand at it. Surprisingly enough, Cyrus was a careful spellcaster. He might have been dramatic in his movements, but he was also precise. He made sure that the tip of his wand went exactly where it was meant to, and he always remembered what his Aunt Teresa had told him: Magic was more intention than anything else.
So as he pointed his wand at that rock, Cyrus imagined it morphing into a strong - and regal - mallard duck, one fit for watching, and he twisted his wand in the proper movement before whispering, 'Avifors!'
The rock sprouted feathers and webbed feet. It lifted its regal head and stared at Cyrus before quacking loudly.
Cyrus bounced on his toes, a grin threatening to widen his lips. He loved ducks. They were such wonderful creatures, so loud and yet graceful that Cyrus idolised them, just a bit.
They also reminded him of Thea, since Thea hadn't dismissed them as 'weird' or 'gross' but had instead asked him what he saw in his ducks. He wondered if she saw those traits in him. He hoped so.
He sat down again, the ground beneath him giving a slight squelch as he put his full weight onto the ground, and he let himself grin freely (no one was watching) as he tapped his hands excitedly against his trousers. They would be mud-stained by the time he got back to school, but he didn't care.
Sometimes he missed the No-maj world and its simplicity, but without magic, there would be no mallard ducks of Cyrus's creation. He would never have met Thea. This squelchy grass would never have gotten stuck to his trousers. There were good things about his friendlessness - and he would make friends, he vowed. He would.Reducio

After months after months up in the cold hills of Scotland, returning back to Ilvermorny was expected. But what Hadrian did not expect was the feelings that snuck up and ambushed him shortly after. So foreign and unfamiliar. Perhaps his friend Jayden might have provided some insight into what he was feeling. Yet she was nowhere to be found, he haven't seen her all his semester. Maybe she was back in the tribe. For once in his life, socialisation was not what he yearned for, rather some peace and quiet. To think and to feel.rping as Hadrian Zuheir
Down by the pond he ventured. From a distance onto the field was the unmistakable silhouettes of owls in the air, swooping down on unsuspecting prey below. Owls. Owleia, they joked. My little dove. Birds, especially one as majestic as an owl were never suited for cages. It hasn't been a while since Hadrian ever missed someone. Not since the episode when Aurelia ran away, without a trace nor a word. It has only been a few months since the departure from Hogwarts. Aurelia knew just how to leave her mark.
This couldn't be love, could it? Love didn't exist in a betrothal despite whatever they claimed. Aurelia made him vulnerable, a dagger through his pride, arrogance and vanity. The noisy quacks nearby snatched him from his own wistful thoughts and focus of the display of owls. "Quiet the fuck down, I'm watching the owls, you damn quackers!" Hadrian shouted, unaware that he was shouting at a human and not just poultry-game.

RP'ing as approved iNPC Cyrus Darsel.@Aurelia NotrésvaceCyrus sat there, smiling, mud all over his expensive trousers, for a few moments. He thought of many things - Thea, mostly, but also the other ducks he could make. He wanted to transfigure another rock into a white-faced whistling duck, but as he pulled out his wand again, he heard to most horrendous words: 'you damn quackers'.
Cyrus stood immediately and winced at the feeling of his cold trousers sticking to his legs. Nevertheless, he lifted his chin, confident, and began to walk towards the source of those awful words, his wand out and ready.
''Scuse me?' Cyrus would ask when he finally saw the boy. His feet squelched against the grass, and he probably looked a bit worse for wear - mud and grass all over him, dirt on his face, scuffs on his shoes - but none of that deterred him. He placed his free hand on his hip like he'd seen angry parents do on TV. 'Did you just call that duck a "damn quacker"?'
His frown was likely comical. It was meant to be. Cyrus was often too dramatic. He grinned too widely and spoke too loudly - and in this instance, it was likely he frowned too deeply. 'That duck,' he said slowly, 'is my creation.' He took a deep breath. 'It is strong and regal.'
Remembering that he needed to respect this other irritable boy's side, he admitted, 'Owls are nice birds. But so are ducks, too. They...' He trailed off. He'd been ready to admit how they reminded him of his only friend, but Cyrus wasn't that stupid. He might not have been the brightest, but he knew not to reveal too much of his vulnerability. 'They remind me of good people. So... Could you not scream at them? Or at least say please? I think they'd listen better if you didn't call them names.'
Cyrus's frown had already morphed into a wide grin by the time he was done with his little speech. He tilted his head to the side, the same way he used to do to his parents whenever he wanted something, and he bounced on his toes in an attempt to make himself look more like the excitable kid he was. He hoped that this new kid wouldn't hate that, but it was highly likely.

Come surprise the voice of another would bring. Realising he wasn't really as alone as he planned. This boy, blonde and very white, had a deep frown on his face, clearly unamused that he had called his little animals 'damn quackers'. Animals could not comprehend human speech, and for this boy to be so riled about it, was rather irrational. The boy's words would be met with an eye roll and a grunt.
His creation. He had conjured a duck. "This place has enough ducks already. Doesn't need more." To his chagrin, the boy began on a tangent on ducks. Nothing Hadrian had the slightest interest in. Nevertheless, his short moment of serenity dissipated with the ongoing noise of ducks.
However, his next words would hit. "My girlf- I mean, fiance, is an owl." the dark-haired boy told him. "An eurasian-eagle owl. Massive. Majestic. Intimidating yet gracefully beautiful." A longing sigh left his lips. "She not one to listen." Upon turning to the boy, his eyebrow would raise in question. Normally, Hadrian would stand up, deliver a spiteful remark and leave, or yell at the other to do so. But not today, not until the owls left the field.

RP'ing as approved iNPC Cyrus Darsel.@Aurelia NotrésvaceCyrus eyed the other boy curiously. He hadn't ever talked to him before (Why he would associate with a duck-hater, he didn't know), and he had to admit, he wondered what this person thought of him. Probably not much, seeing as he hated ducks. Cyrus regretted not wearing one of his duck tie tacks. That would have driven this boy crazy.
'A place always needs more birds,' Cyrus argued. 'Doesn't matter if they're ducks, doves, owls or even pigeons. Birds are better than people sometimes.'
He wanted to bite his mouth so he didn't say more, but Cyrus had never been good at being quiet. He then listened to what the dark-haired boy said about his fiancée. 'You... Are engaged to an owl?'
Cyrus's voice wasn't mocking at all. It was a genuine question. He had just stated that birds were better than people, and it seemed that this boy very much understood that fact, but how could one get engaged to a bird? Certainly, that would be a life of quiet birdwatching.
'She sounds beautiful,' Cyrus agreed. While he loved ducks most, he had a healthy appreciation for all sorts of birds, and owls were probably his second favourite. 'I don't think I've ever seen an eurasian eagle-owl up close,' he mused. 'And birds really don't like to listen. It's one of the best things about them. They don't let anyone tell them what to do.'
As if telling a secret, Cyrus placed his hands around his mouth and whispered, 'I don't think I'm much of a listener, either. That's what everyone tells me.'
It would be painfully obvious, given how much he talked. He did listen to one person, though. He wouldn't mention that, and he wasn't often given reason to listen, but if Thea had something to say, he would listen to it and hang on to every word. She was his friend; that was what friends were supposed to do, right?

Other than the presumption of naivety that hovered over the white boy's head like a halo. Hadrian could not see much trouble rolling the other's way any time soon. By trouble, that meant Hadrian himself. With an ego too big for him to swallow, Hadrian preferred hurling it at others if ever insulted. But he doubted that this boy would unless his advocacy on his ducks was unnecessarily fervourous. Despite his chatter and odd demeanour that bounced with too much childish anticipation, he wasn't too undesirable for some pondside company.
A slightly overexaggerated sigh was produced at the boy's quick question. If the blonde thought about it a little longer, the answer was likely to become apparent. Links and connections could easily be made, like the ring on the darker boy's finger and the fact that no one in the right mind would be engaged to an owl. "She is beautiful, while you're not very smart." He said bluntly. The obnoxious arrogance finally punctured the surface of his personality in this encounter.
"Think about it. An owl. A witch." He hinted, head tilting upwards to look upon the horizon where the owls flew. An index finger extended, he pointed across the span of field, "There is a Great-horned owl. Consider it the American version. Eurasian eagle-owl is larger but is native to, well, Europe. " There was perhaps a hint of disappointment in his voice at the last word. Europe. So incredibly far. "She doesn't let me tell her what to do. I quite admire that about her - Sometimes but not always."

RP'ing as approved iNPC Cyrus Darsel.@Aurelia NotrésvaceDespite Cyrus's talkative nature, he could listen. It proved difficult, sometimes, because he often thought he had so much to say, but he sat and listened to the boy next to him. He didn't even know the boy's name, but as he hadn't shooed Cyrus off, he was going to be considered friendly.
Even if he probably didn't Cyrus around.
Cyrus shrugged when the boy said he wasn't smart. 'I've never been known for my brains,' he admitted. He was only good at maths, and even then, that entirely depended on what he was doing.
He took the boy's advice and thought for a moment. Cyrus was very bad at thinking, especially if he wasn't thinking about Thea. An owl and a witch... At first, he thought of how witches often had pets, but then he remembered his aunt saying something about... 'Animagus?'
He knew what a Great-horned owl was. He'd seen plenty of them before. They were beautiful creatures, almost as beautiful as his ducks. 'That... Makes sense. Thanks.' He meant it. Sometimes he just needed to have things explained to him. He tended to catch on after that.
'That's understandable. I like it when people aren't afraid to do what they want. It's... Liberating, I guess. Makes me feel happy for them.' Cyrus shrugged and sat down, the mud squelching beneath him. 'Although, when people are being purposefully contrary, that can be annoying.' He smiled. 'But funny, if they do it right.'

It didn't take too long before the boy had connected the dots. The pieces coming together that this fiance was not just an owl but an animagus. "Yep. She's an animagus." He confirmed. It wasn't always that Aurelia could transition from owl to human, it was only last year that he found out. When she stayed over at the Zuheirs in America, he was, to as quite impressed to say the least. To watch her smile with glee and excitement at showing off her newly acquired form was not a very common occurrence.
An eyebrow raised at Cyrus. Of how accurately he had described his betrothed. There were often times when he'd question his own thoughts just because she insinuated the opposite, usually the opposite of what she had previously implied. It played with his mind, and it was really quite annoying. Yet arguing with Aurelia was often futile, she was vicious at times. There was never seeing right through her. But that only made him like her more. Such an enigma. "How about you. Have a special somebody?"

@Aurelia Notresvace I was wondering why no one replied to this... Then I realised I hadn't. Whoops
Sorry about that.
Cyrus could have sworn that the boy's attitude changed after he mentioned the term 'animagus'. He seemed less annoyed with Cyrus's existence, which Cyrus considered a good thing. He despised not being liked, and he was willing to do a lot of things to make people like him - but he wouldn't not be himself. It seemed that people often just had to warm up to him, and maybe that was what the boy had done.
Cyrus sighed in response to the question. A special someone... He wasn't sure, if he was honest. A 'special someone' could entail a lot of things, and who was he to judge what someone thought about him? He might like someone... But did she like him? Could he even call someone his 'special somebody' if he didn't know if they liked him?
He took a deep breath and folded his hands in front of him. 'I guess I have a special someone in my head.' He paused. 'I don't know if she likes me back, though. So just my special someone. I don't know if she thinks of me like I am special.'
He would pout before fidgeting and glancing away. He didn't like to talk about his doubts; that made him seem weak, and as someone who prided himself on his strength, weakness was awful. It was something that made it so that you couldn't breathe, something that made it hard to smile. So he was strong, mostly by necessity. He did not want to entertain the possibility of being weak.
