A small nod at the Gryffindor prefect. He couldn’t quite bring himself to speak on the oddball that was Vale Ashwood. Was her invitation a sign that she liked him, or one that she didn’t. Certainly, she had made enough references to her alligators that he would not feel too comfortable getting close to the Ashwood lands, even if he were not drowned in assignments and deadlines.

Instead, he turned his attention over to the two remaining Slytherins on the dueling ring. Neither had cast a spell for some time. Ming watched for a couple of moments, before giving out a sigh. For all that they had participated with enthusiasm, spellcasting was still an effort, and those that would have been most adept at it had already been taken out.

Slowly, Ming stepped onto the dueling ring; measured steps placing him between the two Slytherin athletes. He would look left at Avery, and then right at Margaret. For all their bluster and bravado, it was obvious that both were out of steam.

“Neither participant is able to continue,” Ming announced dispassionately, waiting for a moment to let his words hang in the air. “But then, neither has been eliminated. As such, I declare this event a two-way tie between Mister Avery Chen and Miss Margaret Hawkins.”

Here he gave a small nod to Avery, and one to Maggie. “Congratulations on being the last ones standing.”

There you have it, pretty anticlimatic for an ending. But hopefully everyone had some modicum of entertainment and character development opportunities.

The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening
