A special package
The morning of 2 DecemberThree days, just three more days until Sinterklaas. Samantha was really excited about the Dutch holiday, even though she wouldn't be able to celebrate it with her family. She would probably spend it with a couple of friends, who had no idea what Sinterklaas was, eating the snacks her parents send her.
The young girl didn't expect a big celebration, since she wasn't at home with her parents or in the Netherlands. She was sure that her parents and sister would have a great time together, exchanging surprises, gifts, and simple short poems. If she had still lived in the Netherlands, she would have done the same things at school, but nobody in Hogwarts celebrated Sinterklaas.
The thought of all she could have done saddened her. Being at Hogwarts was great most of the time, but in December she always missed her family a lot. Yes, she would be able to celebrate Christmas with her family, but not Sinterklaas. She wasn't able to place her shoe at the fireplace and sing a few songs, a tradition with Sinterklaas, among many other things.
Besides the actual celebration, the young girl also missed the food that they would eat with Sinterklaas. From the many pepernoten to the lovely chocolade letters, from the tumtums to taaitaai, she missed them all. However, solving the lack of food was easy and it was the reason why the Ravenclaw could be found in the owlery an hour before the first class of the day.
Dressed in her school robes, the brunette was completely ready for her school day. She waited patiently on the owls her parents had promised to send her. When she could see the two owls, one small one and a larger one, a big grin appeared on her face. The larger owl was carrying a bag and the little brown one a letter. The first one landed on the window, but the small one flew to the girl and flew circles around her head.
"Hello Amenadiel, it is good to see you too," she told the little pet owl. The brown owl landed on her extended hand. After she had removed the letter, she gently petted the owl. "You did an amazing job," she whispered towards the small creature and placed him on her shoulder.
The small girl made her way towards the other owl and thanked the animal before taking the bag from it. The owl flew away into the owlery, probably to get some rest. But really Samantha wasn't interested in what the animal would be doing, the bag had her full attention. What did her parents send her?
She quickly opened the bag and looked through it. She found two chocolate letters, a bag of pepernoten, and some tumtums. From the two letters, one was an S and the other a V. Of course, the first one was from her, but it took her a moment to realize for who the second one was. It was for Vivian, her best friend. It was really nice of her parents to think of the other girl, but Samantha knew Vivian didn't like chocolate. She needed to find somebody else who she could give the chocolate letter to, but she didn't know anybody else whose name started with a V.@Hui Ming

Ming H A T E D winter. He hated every little thing about it. From the chill in his bones, to the lethargy, to the additional layers.
Where others were excited about Chirstmas, or the end of the year, or new beginnings, Ming had more immediate concerns. Where others looked towards warm reunions with family, Ming only saw his duty to his family name. From being shown of the as next "prodigy" among his monther's academic circle, or social events hosted by his father, or simply attempting to stay afloat with the work that was expected of him as the only son of the family.
So, when Ming walked into the owlery on this day, bleary-eyed and ruffled hair the umpteenth all-night cramming session, he had expected to send the notebooks of his muggle homework to his parents, and to receive his next batch of assignments. Yay, more assignments, just what every kid needs.
Thus the normally reserved boy, already irritable from exhaustion and the weather, was quite vocally surprised to have found the owlery not bereft of people.
"Oh, uhm-" Ming started, visibly taken aback by the girl. And what was more, she seemed to have been receiving a package instead of sending it. Poor girl, her parents must also be as strict as his were.
For once, Ming tried to be sympathetic. "A package from the parents? At this time?"
The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

@Hui MingAs Samantha looked through the food her parents had sent her, a boy walked in. His brown hair was a mess and it looked like he hadn't slept that well. She looked up to see who joined her in the owlery but decided the boy wasn't interesting enough and turned her attention back to the package in her hand. If she had to pick between a random boy and her food, she would go for her sweets, no doubt.
Only when the boy started talking again, this time more than some random mumbling, Samantha looked up. "Yeah," she said with a little smile, "but you don't hear me complaining. I would wake up in the middle of the night for this." The brunette held up the bag. "Amenadiel knows how much I love food, don't you little one?" she said to the brown little owl on her shoulder as she petted him.
The boy had specifically added the question about time, which made Samantha wonder what the boy was doing in the owlery. It wouldn't make sense if he did the exact same here as she did. The chance he was also getting Dutch snacks from his parents was astronomically small. "What are you doing here?" she asked the boy curiously. "At this time?" she added two seconds after her first question.
"I wonder," the young girl said out loud. "With what letter does your name start? Does it start with a V?" It might seem like a random question to the boy, but Samantha had a purpose in mind. Since her friend didn't like chocolate, maybe she could gift the boy the chocolate letter. She took a moment to look at the boy. "I don't know many names that start with a V, except Vivian, Valentine, Vladimir, Valerie and that's about it. Are you a Vivian, Valentine, Vladimir or Valerie? You don't look like one of them. Not that I know what they look like, except for Vivian, I know how a Vivian looks, you don't look like a Vivian." Even this early in the morning the girl managed to start rambling.
