Flash did not trust adults. His own self-righteous paranoia along with examples of adults' penchant for deception and pride had combined into a bouquet of distrust in authority. That did not intersect with the belief in their wisdom and expertise, as it was only logical that more years meant more knowledge. When it came to his education, it was the professor's job to instruct him and explain what they knew that he did not, and therefore he trusted that element of their relationship. Transactional relationship were, in fact, the only ones he trusted.

He raised his hand often in class, asked as many questions as would fill the void of his incompetence, and if necessary, would go to their offices later for further clarification. He liked learning, and craved mastery, even when in the throes of a horrible curse. That was why, partway through his homework in Ancient Runes, he found himself needing clarification on something that conflicted with his understanding. Leaving the study room for the north tower, he brought his books with him to the office of Professor Lydursdattir.

The day had given way to the afternoon and the weekend was nearing, meaning the halls on the way were devoid of students. Eventually there was little noise besides his own footsteps to accompany him. This would be his first visit, having only started her classes this year as one of his two chosen electives. He would not know her hours, and would be endlessly frustrated if he were to find that his trek were a waste of time. Still, his book alone would not be able to sate his curiosity, so he rapped upon the door.

"Professor Lydursdattir, are you available?" He'd call through it, or into the room, had it already been open.

Spring was late this year, which was troublesome. Her storage of herbs has dwindled drastically during the past weeks and the harsh weather had forced her to stay inside the tower, unable to get fresh plants. She preferred to get her own instead of buying from vendors who often sold subpar quality.

While she sorted her mostly empfy jars of herbs, she absent mindedly scratched the head of Einar who peeked out behind her shoulder. The old boy was enjoying her body warmth. "Sorry, no snacks today."

With a sigh she returned to her desk where parchment piled up. She had asked her students to do some research on the origin of Valentines day, and they had delivered. Truthfully, Béatrice didn't pay Valentines day much attention. To her this was nothing more than a modern and unnecessary excuse to celebrate. But the children, who were starting to grow into adults and were high on hormones, were talking about it for weeks so she had given in. But when she had to read about Valentines day, she children better do their part and do some research. Unfortunately for her, they were more motivated to write about that hilarious day than about the Indus Valley.

A knock followed by shouting made her lift her head. How odd, she thought and secretly hopped that this was not tied to any secret Valentine's event. She had heared students talk about some planed actions during the day.

For a heartbreak she considered to ignore it. She rarely got visitors and one appearing today of all days was too much of a coincidence. Still, maybe it was a coincidence.

"Fine fine." Slowely she made her way to the door. Her walking stick was leaning at the desk.

Her gaze fell on a young boy. I should have listened to my gut. When she saw the boy standing there, she scolded herself for answering the door. She was about to tell him, that he should join the other children for Valentine's day instead of trying to involve Béatrice with something, when she saw the books in his hands. She took another glance at the boy's face and stared at him for some seconds, stretching the awkward silenced a bit too long until she recognized him as one of her students.

"Flash," she finally said and raised her eyebrows. "How curious. Are you in need of advice for matters of love or in search of knowledge?" She pointed at the books in his hands. "For your sake I sincerely hope the latter is the case."

Béatrice stepped aside and gave way for Flash to enter. "I'm afraid matters of love is not my expertise." With her hand she pointed at a sole wooden chair in the corner while she had a firm grasp on the door with her other hand to steady herself. "Feel free to take the chair and put it wherever."

Flash could hear commotion inside as Professor Lydursdattir gathered herself to the doorway, opening it with a greeting. Even though he had met most of his professors alone a time or two, it was still somewhat intimidating to start fresh with making impressions. Obviously he had made some kind of impression if she remembered his name, but as a child of his household, it was ingrained in him to display self-deprecation humbleness at every occasion.

To her question, however, he'd be momentarily stunned. He'd search her features briefly for a hint of sarcasm, until he realized the upcoming holiday, in tandem with the recent assignment in class, letting out a relieved sigh that he wasn't somehow being singled out for his bad luck with relationships.

"No, not love, Professor." Flash would say in a sigh. "The latter. A curiosity, if you'll humor me."

As she stepped aside, he would seek out the chair she mentioned, putting it squarely in front of the spot he assumed she herself would be sitting, placing his books gently on his lap. He would waste no time, the wording of his question having been buzzing around in his head the whole journey there.

"In your classes, you mention the severity of misuse of runes, and we keep reading stories about the disasters that come from even minor mistakes in their inscription." As he spoke, his eyes would be somewhere on the wall, simultaneously observing the new location and its unique accoutrement. "Well... so, I'm not certain how well acquainted you are with Muggle technology, but there's this invention called the bluetooth."

Whether or not she admitted to knowledge of the tech, he'd ask the question at hand that had been plaguing him for the last half an hour, "So, I'm fairly certain they've mashed the letters Hagall and Bjarken together to make a unique rune. Is that not... isn't that problematic?"
