How can I help?

@Habib Acropolis
English ⋆ ParseltongueIt was, honestly, quite a nice day for studying. There was a slight chill outside that prevented any thrill-seeking, but enough of a time block that they needn't be rushed. Mars sat at the edge of one of the library desks, quill in hand and frowning at their Defense Against the Dark Arts homework. Aristaeas lay curled around their neck, leeching the warmth off their skin as usual.
Scratch, scratch, scratch. Mars fixed a paragraph, turning to the textbook near them for reference. Okay, this seemed right. Nothing too complicated, just a few deadly pixies and a couple of dangerous water beasts. Pretty typical for a DADA class.
"Marsss," Taea hissed, curling up to poke their head. Mars laughed at the feeling of the snake's tongue in their ear.
"What, what?" they asked, smiling fondly down at their paper. The snake had brought such joy into their life, even after life-shattering events had gone down. There was so much benefit to being a Parselmouth. Everyone should try it someday.
"I am hungry," the snake said, bonking its head lightly on their collar bones. Mars looked up at the clock. It was only 4:00, how could it already be hungry?
"Are you?" they mused, not picking the quill up from the parchment.
"Yes. I should like to have that thing from last time. Chocolate, you called it."
Mars laughed, stifling it as best they could to avoid being kicked out of the library.
"You liked that chocolate frog? I'm kind of surprised."
"No, not a frog. Chocolate," Taea said, quite adamantly. Mars couldn't help but put the quill down with a laugh, reach up to rub the snake's little snout. Aristaeas wound itself around their finger and up their arm, making a slow loop back to their shoulders. Mars signed, looking at their half-finished homework.
"Fine, fine. Just let me finish this, and I'll get you two pieces, okay?"
"That is acceptable," Taea responded, snaking its way onto the desk. It positioned itself on top of their homework, head tilted down like it was staring. As if that would somehow speed up an essay on evil fairies. Mars shook their head with a grin and set quill to parchment once more. Unless they were interrupted, this would only take a few more minutes.

How can I help?

Habib walked into the Library holding a thick book called the Oddessey, he liked this place there were so many books about so many things that were interesting and unique to the British wizarding world he got quickly turned around and often got lost however after a while he found a table that seemed better suited for a dining room and sat down he opened the thick book and got lost almost instantly his only link to the outside world was the occasional shuffle of a chair when someone came or left the library. He just continued to read page after page until even those sounds of fellow human beings faded to the back of his mind. Until he heard Marss Habib froze that sound, it was unmistakable it was the sound of a snake now this alone wouldn't get a reaction out of Habib the snake was probably someone's pet after all not everyone who owned a snake was a parsel mouth. What chilled Habib was that there was a reply in parseltongue from this Mars person Habib knew that there was at least one other parsel mouth in Hogwarts but there was another one Habib had to talk to them he had to he needed to know just how many were in the school so gathering his courage he said Hello there my name isss Habib I'm alssso a parssel mouth

English ⋆ ParseltongueTaea's small hiss was the only warning Mars had before the voice interjected. They stopped in their tracks, quill hovering above their nearly finished essay. A fat glob of ink dripped onto the paper.
Parseltongue.
It was hard to figure out sometimes, to be honest. The language sounded just the same as English to their ears, if not a bit drawn out and hoarse. A sentence might very well just blend into normal speech, as if nothing had changed at all. But those 'sss' were unmistakable. A Parselmouth. Maybe a young one, at that.
They turned in their seat, coming face to face to what they assumed to be a First Year boy. Someone they'd never met before—but that had been obvious from the voice. No one from A.S.P had that sound.
Mars regarded him carefully. Big eyes, big book, he didn't seem like a threat. Aristaeas slithered up to them, latching onto their arm. It also stared, looking at him with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
Realizing that they'd been staring for a second too long, Mars let out a smile at the boy. Kind of daring, using Parseltongue in the middle of the library.
"Habib," they said slowly, testing out the name, "Good to meet you." They made a point to speak in normal tongue, eyes darting around to the other students in the library. They, of course, had no qualms about speaking out-loud, but nearly all the other Parselmouths they knew were vehemently against the idea. They figured they'd give Habib a bit of an out, in case he didn't want to speaking in Parseltongue and risk exposing himself. If he continued though, they wouldn't mind continuing in the language. It would make giving out... secrets a little easier.
But that was assuming that'd what he was looking for. Who knew, maybe he was just a lone Parselmouth looking for a little recognition.
"I'm Mars," they stated, "And this is Aristaeas." They nodded at the snake, who flicked its tongue out in recognition. It hadn't moved from its place by their arm, still looking warily at the boy.
Mars swiveled a little more fully in their chair, looking Habib in the eye.
"So, how can I help?" they prodded. Maybe it was a lone Parselmouth looking for a little recognition, sure. But maybe, just maybe, he was looking for something else.

How can I help?
Habib was inwardly chastising himself for publicly speaking parseltongue; it was supposed to be a well kept secret, yet there he was, stupidly, blurting it out. Mars fixed his gaze on him, his snake creeping up their arm. They then exchanged words. Habib quickly realised what they were attempting to accomplish; they wanted to provide him an escape, an opportunity to make amends for his gaffe at the start of their meeting. "Umm, could you tell me about the status on parsel mouths in the school, like who are the parsel mouths, how many are there, what to know, are all parsel mouths in contact or?" Habib said. Habib came to a halt as he realised he was rambling. He flushed and scratched his back.He began to consider what was going on. Wasn't parseltongue supposed to be a rare gift, well clearly not because there were already three of them in the school he didn't know their last name so he couldn't tell whether they were pureblood half-blood or muggle-born he assumed pureblood because it wouldn't make much sense for a muggle-born to be a parsel mouth. He approached their snake and petted it, saying "Well, aren't you an adorable one?" he says again, this time whispering while smiling.Mentions

English ⋆ ParseltongueAs Mars stopped to process the rush of things Habib had asked of them, the young Slytherin approached, reaching out to Aristaeas.
They themselves were startled, recoiling from the approaching hand. Taea eyed him warily, flicking its tongue. The snake and its owner exchanged glances before Aristaeas quietly allowed Habib to pet it, shrinking away slightly. Mars reached up to run a finger down its scales, feeling the snake relax substantially.
"Yeah, I reckon it is," Mars smiled, "Sorry, Taea isn't too comfortable with new people." The snake hissed its agreement, settling its head on Mars' collar bone.
"Anyway," they said briskly, "You want to know about Parselmouths? Well, I'd say our status is... not particularly high, considering most of us are hidden. I'd like to think I'm pretty popular though." Mars flashed a grin at Habib. He seemed rather awkward and self-conscious. Par for the course as a First Year though, they assumed. He'd grow into himself soon enough.
"How many are there?" Mars continued. They lowered their voice, beckoning for Habib to lean in. Hopefully, he'd catch their drift. If not, he probably wouldn't be able to hear anything. They counted on their fingers, mentally listing off their friends. "At least... six, not including me. Probably more we haven't met or that I'm forgetting. We are in contact though, those of us who've revealed our statuses. What to know? Not really sure how to answer that. I could probably give you a million different responses."
They mused quietly in their head, sizing him up again. Would A.S.P like this guy? Well, they did have a non-exclusion policy. And Parselmouths were rare enough. That was why they'd made the club in the first place, to gather everyone together.
Mars made up their mind. They gave him a look, winding Taea's tail around their finger.
"I can't quite tell you who they are because of privacy and all. But..." they paused, "It wouldn't be too hard to arrange a little meeting.
"Whatdya say, Habib? Up for a little... chamber crawling?" they asked.

How can I help?

Habib paused to take in what Mars was saying. "It's fine, I understand," Habib said with a smile. "I wouldn't put my trust in myself either." Habib hung on every word Mars said in response to his questions. Habib felt an admiration flower bloom within him. He thought the young man in front of him was an older version of himself. When it came to the number, Habib was unconcerned. It was understandable that there would be multiple Parsel Mouths, but Habib was surprised that they were all in contact. Habib was certain they were all purebloods, so if they were, didn't they realise it was political suicide to let it be known that an aristocratic family existed? Habib was certain they were all purebloods, but if they were, didn't they know it was political suicide to reveal that an heir was a Parsel Mouth? The ability was persecuted by all of magical Britain, with prejudice dating back to the Wizengamot's early days. Habib was surprised when Mars spoke, and as he spoke, Habib became more and more excited. Habib smiled. Come on, do you have to ask?
