Nothin like getting flung into oblivion to get the blood pumping. Honestly, as Jack spread out his hand and was whirled around... he didn't have the highest of hopes. But as the world spun and he was propelled forwards, he couldn't help but think that he was having a pretty good spot of luck. Obviously, luck was relative, considering that he did have to should a couple hits from vines and the like, but lucky enough.

This was it. This was how she lost. Ughhhh. @Hugh Lowe would be so disappointed in her. The vines gripped her and her broom, making it completely unable to move and she struggled against it. This was why the big guy kept telling her to train, telling her that she needed 'muscles' blaaahhh. She hated it when he was right. Well, she didn't. But right now, she hated it because it might have led to their defeat.

Perhaps through the power of friendship though - or a need to simply beat @Jack Warren in their friendly competition, who she could see had also managed to get caught - Serena struggled against the vines once more before it freed her and released her, "Yes!" She whispered to herself with a little fistbump. Looking over, she noticed Jack was free too. They could do this! Honestly, she had expected to be stuck there for the rest of the race and figured one of the professors might have to come rescue her at the end.

But it was fine! She managed to get out and with that hardship out of the way, she managed to zoom fast the Whomping Willow, "Not today, my friend," She called out as she zoomed right past it, dodging through the thorns and zooming past some trees. Alright, those tree drills that she did with @Nicholas McCowan had come in handy, clearly. She just hated those bloody vines! But things were looking a bit more hopeful now she had managed to -somehow - free herself. Would Hugh be proud? He better be!

For the second time, Winter found herself stopped in the middle of the track, the dhampir not moving from her position at the rear.

Winter - Unit 3

Yet, the race continued on, the front runners drawing ever closer to the coveted finish line. Meanwhile, those in the rear were tasked with an equally important task. Take out those leading the race before they could secure victory. Such was the job of Clair, the Ravenclaw broom racer throwing a projectile at the Hufflepuff captain. Even from her considerable distance, the tell tale thunk of contact must have been audible, and although she did not move, her role was certainly not to be discounted.

Further afield, Jack Warren continued through the crop of trees. But whereas earlier he’d managed to avoid them, he found himself banging and crashing into more branches and trunks than he avoided.

He soon found himself falling shortly behind Serena, the part-goblin having been considerably slowed by the vines. In due order, the two students were flinging spells at the Ravenclaw racers ahead of them, arresto momentum from the wand of the boy and aimed at the sole boy on the opposite team, and lubicrus from the wand of the girl and aimed at one of the (admittedly many) girls on the other team, Emily. Unfortunately for fans of duelling and wandwork, both spells missed their mark, and the Ravenclaws would go on unimpeded by the doings of Hufflepuff.

Instead, the birds had other plans. The co-captain grabbed the broom of Emily and all but threw her forward, launching her with extra speed toward the finish line. Lin followed not far behind her, eyes open in case the other girl needed assistance.

Emily’s extra speed sent her hurtling like a bullet. Yet, her hopes were soon doused, in much the same way that she was quite literally doused by water. She sped toward the waterfall, only for the sheer force of the torrent of liquid to send her flying from her broom. Lin followed soon thereafter, and she caught sight of her teammate falling. She angled herself down to dive and save the girl, only for she too to be caught in the whitewash. Both eagles were sent hurtling from their brooms, landing with mighty splashes in the water below.

Up ahead, it seemed that Avery had been paralysed by fear, perhaps being hit in the back of the head had something to do with it, perhaps not. But, it seemed, winning the race now fell to Simon. Hogwarts’ preeminent bachelor (note: not actually a bachelor) weaved through the course as if he were born to fly, obstacles avoided and weathered with ease.

Serena looked at Jack, he was nearby. Up ahead, she could just about make some of the Ravenclaw team players. Some were closer. They appeared to be catching up, maybe this was their opportunity? Simon and Avery were up ahead somewhere too, though she was not entirely sure exactly where they were in relation to the rest of them. She had noticed she passed by one Ravenclaw though, so there was hope!

Looking over at Jack as she raised her wand to signal what her plan was. Looking at the Ravenclaws, she squinted. They were kind of far but... she had to try, right? "Lubricrus!" She cast, attempting to make it harder for one of them to fly. Her eyes narrowed, squinting as she tried to follow the spell. It looked like the other dodged it, much to Serena's dismay. Damnit. Hugh was going to make her work even harder now...

As she flew, she started to get closer to the Ravenclaws who had been knocked off their broom somehow - oh- waterfall. That was a waterfall coming up. You know, AHHHH WATERFALL! Serena steadied herself, bracing herself for whatever was behind it. Welp, perhaps it was just time to get soaked. Hopefully, there wasn't a wall behind it, you know. Who flew through a waterfall without knowing what was behind it? Right, right, apparently the broom racers do just that... Sounds smart. She blamed Jack Warren. It was obviously his fault that she was even considering flying head first through an obstacle without actually checking what was behind it... But either way, it looked like that was the way they had to go. It was part of the race, it seemed. So... it had to be done? Though, it definitely did not look easy...

Lin Evanvleck ✯ First Year 9th January 2021

Lin was following Emily. She didn't know what to do to be helpful and this was the best she could do. But it was clearly not a good idea.
Seeing her friend fall, Lin tried to catch her and fell into some whitewash. Well, we have to do better now. The Ravenclaws were off to a good start, but now... Lin and Emily could still try to win. But to do that, they would have to get past Simon, who looked quite motivated.

The race was getting to its end. And for some reason, Emily was getting even more nervous than she did at any time, she came closer to the Waterfall so she decided to take some speed, a lot of speed, or well, to much speed, she rushed through the waterfall, but the water was so strong, that within seconds, the water had pushed her of her broom. For Emily, All beauty comes to an end at some point, so for Emily, this was the end of an amazing game.
