Continuing from this thread
Aryaan walked away from that duel feeling confused, more than anything else.

Had he made a friend or an enemy? Did he really make her cry in the end? His own feelings on the matter were muddled as well. On the one hand, the girl was a good caster, and knew magic he hadn’t learnt. But like so many of wizard-kin, her vision was limited to his spellbook and magical power, as if other things like athleticism and presence of mind counted for nothing.

The abruptness of the end of the duel had also left him reeling. It was not how he had expected the whole ordeal to go. He did find out what Hogwarts students were capable of…but.

It was with these mixed thoughts that Aryaan returned to the present, finding himself on his way back to the Mahoutokoro cabins. He looked a mess, mud and dirt and more than a few bruises. But hopefully, he would be able to sneak in without any of the seniors finding out. Or worse, Shimizu-san.

The last thing he needed now was to have his ears told off my Mr. Uptight and his gang of nerds.

“Okay. Here we go.”

Taking a deep breath, Aryaan inched open the door and carefully snuck inside.

The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

Hadashi was still awake, even now. He had spent the time studying higher year books, in order to have a head start next year.
It was when it was lights out that Hadashi noticed that one of their group was not present.
One Aryaan Shamsi.

While he was indeed quite concerned that one of Mahoutokoro -a first year, no less- was up wandering about after hours, and it was his responsibility as a class representative , he couldn't very well go out and look for him.
For one thing, that would be him breaking the rules himself, and for another, though he was good with directions, he didn't exactly trust himself not to get lost in an unfamiliar place at night.
And dodging all authority figures was largely unappealing. And he quite doubted they would accept the excuse if "I was looking for a member of my group after hours" as a justified reason to wander about himself.

Hadashi decided to wait up a bit longer, in case he came back.
And, right when he was about to decide to call it a night and look in the morning, the door opened. And in came Shamsi.

With a flick of his wand, Hadashi lit up the room.
"Lumos Maxima."

Shamsi looked filthy, covered in mud, and he thought he saw bruises.

Hadashi let his irritation be shown on his face, he himself still able to look imposing even in just pajama shorts and bare feet.

"Okaeri."

He said rather accusing, the customary "welcome back" response to the "Tadaima" he knew wasn't coming.

"Sanpo ni sukoshi okuremashita ne?"
(A bit late for a stroll, isn't it?)

Aryaan jumped at the sudden spell and the dreaded upper-year voice, his battered body suddenly encased by a flood of light. It was evident that the boy had been running around from the dirt and mud on his clothes; he may also have been on the receiving end of several Knockback Jinxes, not that he'd ever admit to such.

The lavender first-year gulped, he had hoped to avoid trouble. And Hadashi Hitoshi, fourth-year indigo, was probably the closest thing to student oversight on this trip. And he was definitely trouble.

"H-hey Hitoshi-san,” the first year exclaimed, his voice an octave higher than it usually was. This was NOT good, and Aryaan desperately scrambling for a story that would not get into any more trouble. “I-haha. I was not expecting anyone to wait up for me.”

At the clearly unamused expression of the senior year, he tried another tactic. “I was just getting to know Hogwarts a bit better. Stevenson-kun was helping me engage in this sort of a….uh. ‘Cultural exchange’. Yeah. That’s it.”

It wasn’t a lie. They had “exchanged” their culture: him of his background of sports, and the Hogwarts students, their repertoire of dueling spells. Not that Hadashi-san needed to know all those details.

[font=Shining Like Stars]You had gone to bed after studying for most of the evening. You noticed that Shamsi wasn't there but you didn't care so you didn't say anything. You went to bed hoping that your classmate would get caught and punished for what he did after hours.
You couldn't sleep. To keep yourself busy, you started thinking about a study programme to turn your robe into navy blue by the end of the year. And keep it blue until the end of the year, if it doesn't turn gold. That would be a good year-end resolution.
Sanpo ni sukoshi okuremashita ne? A bit late for a stroll, isn't it?
You were about to fall asleep when you heard the voice of Hitoshi-san, a fourth year navy blue. Curious by nature, you silently got up and put on your purple robe. You stood by the door to hear what was being said. Shamsi must have been back.
H-hey Hadashi-san. I-haha. I was not expecting anyone to wait up for me.
Hearing Shamsi, you spell the room you share with Sana, your best friend, and make a disgusted face at the boy's condition. Muddy, filthy and disgusting. You bow slightly to Hadashi-san and then stare at Shamsi with a disgusted face.
Of course. What where you doing Shamsi?
I was just getting to know Hogwarts a bit better. Stevenson-kun was helping me engage in this sort of a….uh. ‘Cultural exchange’. Yeah. That’s it.
The lie was ridiculous. You could see that he was lying and you hoped that Hadashi-san could see it too. Shamsi had better be punished. All he had to do was not go out after hours.
Hadashi-san, with all due respect, you can see that Shamsi is lying!

Sana was restless, thinking about what her classmate had gone off to do. Sana had shared concerned looks with her best friend, Sakura, all afternoon about it. The sun had gone down and the cabin had gone to sleep, all except Sana and a few others. What was Shamsi thinking, walking about on unfamiliar grounds at night? What could happen to him? Eventually, she fell into a light restless sleep for some time, images of possible dangers circling about in her head. A voice outside stirred her awake, and for a moment she forgot where she was. The covers were unfamiliar in her hands and the air too stiff to be her school. Then she remembered where she was, and sat up in her bed.

She looked over to where her best friend was supposed to be sleeping and didn't see her in her bed. A few moments of panic passed before she gathered herself together and put her robe on over her pajamas. Heading to the door, she saw her friend and felt relieved for a moment. "Sakura, What is going on?" She asked before directing her view to outside. There was Shamsi and Hitoshi-san, and Sana could guess what was going on.

She took a look at Shamsi's dirtied state and wrinkled her nose. Had he no shame, looking like that? Her mother would faint if she saw Sana like that. She bowed slightly to Hitoshi-san and waited for Shamsi to explain himself. "Look who finally decided to return." She said flatly, before taking a step forward. "I would like to know what this "cultural exchange" included if it isn't too much trouble." Was that... smoke that she smelled on him? "I'm sure there's a logical explanation to why you look and smell like an overcooked marshmallow that had been thrown into a pile of dirt. Unless, of course... you were doing something else?"

Will put image and stuff when I get home.
To say that Hadashi was unamused would be apt, but a rather understated observation.
Not only was Shamsi out after hours, but then he had the audacity to lie to him.
And he didn't even lie well. That was the most pathetic acting Hadashi had ever seen. A cultural exchange? Was he serious?

"Bunka kōryū. Doro resuringu wa hoguwātsu no bunka no ichibuda to omoimasu ka? Watashi wa sono Moto no sono bubun o minogashita ni chigainai. Watashi wa sore o nana subete yonda."
(A cultural exchange. I assume mud wrestling is part of the culture of Hogwarts? I must have missed that part of the book. All seven times I read it.)

How stupid did Shamsi think he was? This was actually almost insulting.
On second thought, 'almost' nothing. This was outright insulting.

"Watashi wa bakada to omoimasu ka"?
(Do you think I'm stupid?)

Hadashi was rapidly losing patience with Shamshi at this point. On top of that, now there were more people awake. And they didn't believe his pitifully put together story either.

Shamsi was digging his own grave here. Hadashi was not in the slightest buying this clearly untrue story. And even if he DID buy it, Shamsi was still out after hours. So his story didn't matter in the first place.
This was all just telltale signs of someone desperately trying to save face in the wake of being caught irreparably guilty.

Hadashi got up, bare feet padding silently toward Shamsi.

"Anata wa jikangai ni todomarimasu. Anata wa watashinokao ni uso o tsukimasu. Soshite, anata wa watashi no chisei o hijō ni hinjaku ni kōchiku sa reta nanika de bujoku shimasu. Kokode wa kōryū ga hitsuyōda to omoimasu."

(You stay out after hours. You lie to my face. And you insult my intelligence with something so poorly constructed.
I think a detention is in order here.)

And just like that, the place was swarmed, as several of the girls showed up. Kobayashi-san even had the nerve to flat out call him a liar! Aryaan would never lie when he was on thin ice. And not to no-nonsense Hitoshi-san, who would definitely not take it well.

And then Ohashi-san comes in, guns ablaze with all her accusations. Aryaan was just about to rip into her - just because she didn't know how to live and explore and make friends outside of the little 'proper' bubble didn't mean that there wasn't a world out there to explore.

But all of the words he could say were drowned by the words spoken by the upper-year. Aryaan blinked for a second. Wait what?

“Wait, no. What? That’s not fair! I’m not lying!” Aryaan exclaimed, with more than a little heat. Of course this is what happens when someone catches him putting even a toe out of line, nevermind that he learnt more about Hogwarts’ dueling ability in a few hours than the dueling team had likely managed in their stay so far. Everything has to be by the book, everything has to be proper or it doesn’t count.

“ “It’s not my fault that the Hogwarts students only agreed to do this after dinner!”
Note: Continuity correction: Aryaan should have been calling him Hitoshi-san, since Hadashi-san implies a familiarity that they simply don;t share.

Hadashi now saw that multiple people were coming to see the return of Shamsi. While witnesses were important, public shaming was not something Hadashi enjoyed doing. Hadashi did not see himself as a cruel person, and calling someone out publicly so multiple people would see them and shame them was unnecessary and honestly telling of a lack of confidence or conviction in oneself.

Still, reprimanding was needed. And so, Hadashi had baited the trap. And boy did Shamsi step right in it.

"Ā, karera wa dōi shimashita ka? Anata no kotobadzukai wa, anata ga kore ni tsuite karera ni chikadzuita hitodeatta koto o honomekashimasu."
(Oh, they agreed to, did they? Your wording insinuates that you were the one who approached them about this.)

Hadashi smirked. Mind games were always so much fun to use. They had come naturally to him rather early. And he used them frequently, mostly just for fun. But it also came in handy when dueling, or playing shogi. In fact, Hadashi was attempting to get into Go, as he had heard it was a complicated game.
But it also didnt hurt to play mind games with someone whom you've just caught breaking the rules and being out after hours.

"Gotcha."

Roleplaying as Akira Shimizu from Mahoutokoro
Outfit: Navy Uniform
It was a fruitful evening of study. After completing his tasks for the day, he pulled out a parchment and dipped his sai-hitsu brush in black ink and addressed a letter to his mother. The thin brush's fine strokes, paired with his neat and practiced calligraphy, produced uniform lines of kanji from top to bottom, right to left. For him, his weekly letters were not only a duty -- they were a time of reflection upon what he had accomplished and observed during the week. The reflective process brought him peace, and putting characters onto paper word by word felt meditative.

And this week had been one of the more exciting weeks in his life: Visiting Scotland and Hogwarts for the first time, meeting peers his own age halfway across the world, learning about their odd school with moving stairs and confusing corridors that were counterproductive to studying, with anonymous werewolf and dhampir students within its halls and dorms... It was difficult to understand how a headmaster would allow such school to exist. One whose reputation could be so easily besmirched, like it was by bombings; one whose students would be so easily put in harm's way.

His mind was focused upon the oddities of the circus that was Hogwarts before hearing some commotion outside the door of his room. Akira raised his dark brown gaze from his letter and listened intently, head tilted towards the sounds. Multiple people appeared to be speaking. Who could be out of their rooms at this hour? He briefly wrapped his navy school robe over his pajamas and opened the door, making his way slowly to the common room area.

It was a sight to behold; it was as if the entire school delegation decided to have a meeting late at night. There was Kobayashi-san, accusing Shamsi of lying. There was Ohashi-san, asking why Shamsi looked and smelled terrible. There was Hitoshi-senpai, with a smirk upon his face, as if he had just caught an underclassman breaking rules. And, of course, there was Shamsi himself, robe partially burnt to a crisp, bruised and battered like he had gotten himself into a fight. One glance at the condition the Indian boy was in, and Akira felt like he knew. He had just been in an illegitimate duel, hadn't he? Scorched by an Incendio, knocked in the face (eyeball) by a Flipendo. Such was the chaotic, trouble-thirsty way of Aryaan Shamsi.

"Lumos." Akira stepped into the room from the shadows of the hallway, wandlight exaggerating his young but angled features. "Hitoshi-senpai," he greeted his respected upperclassman with a bow. "Kobayashi-san, Ohashi-san," he nodded politely towards his classmates. He would not utter Shamsi's name. Instead, he narrowed his observant gaze at the boy as he regarded him in disdain. This boy who was not Japanese, and did not uphold their customs; a blatant outsider who undeservingly donned the robes of Mahoutokoro. "I'm sorry our classmate is causing trouble. It's unacceptable that one of us would break curfew on a trip," he apologized to the upperclassman on Shamsi's behalf, and shot a glance at the unruly boy, hoping that Shamsi would not irritate anyone further and cooperate in saving face for their year. "Without question, he should be disciplined as necessary, according to how you wish. Be it kneeling on the cold, hardwood floors of the common room for hours without a pillow, writing lines, cleaning the entire cabin, or any other worthy punishment.”

However, one thing piqued his curiosity. "Would you be so kind as to tell us one thing, Shamsi? Since it seems that you either got into an illegitimate duel in which your wounds were not addressed by a staff member afterwards, or you snuck into the Herbology greenhouse and got attacked by fire seed bushes, and I'm assuming the former... Did you at least win the duel you wanted to conduct so badly that you would break school rules?" His eyes honed in on the boy, waiting for an answer.

Aryaan had the decency to look abashed at being caught out by the senior, but before he could worm his way out of this, came the entrance of one Shimizu Akira.

"Unoriginal prat," Aryaan mumbled, as the topper of their year made his entrance in a way eerily similar to that of their senior. What was with the navies and their need for dramatic entrances, anyway?

And then Shimizu-kun prcceeded to - how dare he? Grovelling like a prideless wimp. For all that he acted like the big bad, put him in front of an upperclassman, and the supposed leader of the first years would fold. Badly.

Why couldn't people be normal for once in their fucking lives? They were meant to be kids, to have fun and compete and enjoy themselves. So what if Aryaan toed the line a couple of times, no one was really hurt. It didn't need this kind of response from the others.

Out loud, Aryaan responded to Akira, his anger at the boy. "It was a cultural exchange! Anyway, I don't answer to you, Shimizu-kun. Just trying to copy the style of someone who's put together doesn't make you cool as well. Stop trying to get people into trouble because of your stupid insecurities and need to be a bootlicker."

"Hitoshi-san. I'm sorry I made you worry. I was just getting to know some of the Hogwarts first-years. It's not a big deal, honest." A deep breath, a forced smile. "And let's just say that if their aim in Quidditch is like their aim when casting, we're going to be beating them pretty easily."
Aryaan will attempt to head upstairs to bed, unless stopped
