2022, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs. Slytherin: Match 4

More rotten luck on Addie’s end. As she floated around in the air, unable to lower herself, she found herself wide open to attacks from both of her opponents. Impacted by two powerful forces, Addie felt the wind get knocked out of her, and upon both of those hits, she plummeted back to the ground, landing painfully hard onto the dueling stage.

“Well this sucks,” she groaned angrily, pushing herself back to her feet.

Katrina felt mischievous grin creep it’s way onto her face. The Ventus she had just cast split and went or hit both of her opponents. Sure, one may have dodged but it was still a rather impressive performance.

However, her grin slipped as Adeline was hit by both opponents. Katrina held back a wince as she saw the chances of winning slip for a moment. It was too early to tell but she was determined to push through.

Round 5

It seemed Katrina was on a roll this match, having found her groove after something of a slow start. Her Reparifors would do wonders for her partner Adeline, the lion would feel remarkably rejuvenated, more than usual after a heal in fact. As Illowy sought to put an end to Katrina's successes, to take her out of the match just for a little while with a well-cast Petrificus Totalus, the lion was not particularly keen on such a thing, and she dodged out of the way. Adeline, for her part, opted not to cast, focusing solely on dodging Starlee's Incendio Duo headed her way. Adeline would find that stepping out the way came easily, naturally, perhaps her partner's healing had invigorated her spirit and reenergized her.

Spectator Thread

Just as Starlee was beginning to feel they had the upper hand, yet again nothing seemed to reach its target. Except the rather well cast healing spell from the other team, of course that was easy. She had been expecting at least a retaliation spell from Hughes, but nothing ended up crossing over from the Gryffindor's end of the piste, with Hughes focusing so much on dodging, it seemed she was able to see Starlee's spell a mile away.

This wasn't over yet.

Action: Doing as Strategized

The duel finally felt like it was on their side.

Katrina sent a healing Adeline’s way and saw it visibly aid in their chances of winning. Meanwhile, Adeline deftly dodged an incoming fire spell with angelic grace. Katrina in return, narrowly avoided a petrification.

At long last it seemed their luck had made a return. If only they could hold onto that for a little while longer.

Addie smirked as a jolt of healing uplifted her and kept her on her feet. With this new surge of energy, she let her wand rest at her side and took a moment to focus on the movements and actions of her opponents. The moment she saw Starlee aiming a spell in her direction, she stepped aside and let the flames blow right past her.

"Aw, for a moment, I thought you two might actually be good duellists," she jeered.

Round 6

Spells were slung, with one less than Thomas anticipated crossing the piste. Observation would provide explanation for the oddity.

The Gryffindors continued to play defensively, with Adeline dodging any incoming spells--there were none, perhaps to her disappointment--and her partner Katrina successfully healing the younger witch yet again. The Slytherins found a mixed bag of successes and failures. Illowy was able to land an Obscuro on Katrina, her aim nigh flawless (or, perhaps, Katrina's dodge so poorly timed nat 1). What might have been an excellently executed follow-up to Illowy became an ill-timed flub, with Starlee not setting a Gryffindor, but herself, ablaze.

Watching the Gryffindors play so defensively filled him with ire, memories of irritation apparently resurfacing. Tom was grateful for the time limit.

Spectator Thread

This duel clearly seemed to be a wave of conflicting emotions: one second she felt like they could easily take on the opposing Gryffindors, the next, she had done just as Hughes has done not moments ago, and backfired her own spell, setting herself ablaze.

”Damn it…” she muttered through gritted teeth as she tried to fight off the searing pain. The usually bubbly Slytherin was beginning to get angry. At least Illowy had gotten her spell to hit, but then again she expected no less from the older student. Starlee hated feeling so useless, but she had to keep trying for her partner.
