Time is an optical illusion - never quite as solid or strong as we think it is. (Jodi Picoult)

School had been conducted for a week, but Marius still found himself lost at Hogwarts frequently. The building was so big, way bigger than his previous school. Sometimes after dinner, he would stay at the huge Great Hall and remember how his elementary school had no proper canteen; most students would go home for lunch and return to school afterward, while others who live far from school brought their lunch and ate at any spot they opted, usually the benches just outside the classrooms.
Either way, Marius had learnt the hard way that almost everything about Hogwarts was magical. Just about a week ago he was lost because he climbed stairs which led somewhere different, and fortunately an older pupil came to the rescue and explained to the first year that that staircases could lead to a different place. And then there was the embarrassing moment when he admired the castle's interior while climbing and stepped onto a vanishing step everyone was supposed to jump over.
The same happened with doors. Last week, he almost arrived late for a class as it took him ages to find the exact spot to tickle a door - it would not open unless one did so. Today the same thing was currently taking place, except that the door did not require tickling sensations to open. This one did not even budge. Marius was running out of patience, so he tried to force his way through it, and unluckily it was not even a real door - just a wall pretending to be one.

It was midday and Bloom was moving from one class to another. She had just got done with listening intensively to Charms, one of her worst classes, and was now making her way towards Defense Against the Dark Arts. She had the crappiest of times in her Charms class. They were learning a new spell and she was one of the few who couldn't get the spell to work in the classroom when it was time to practice. It was always the same. She was never able to focus enough to get magic to work. It was always a fluke when the magic was able to shoot out of her wand correctly.
In order to get to Defense Against the Dark Arts, however, Bloom had to go down two flights of stairs. She walked down the first pair of stairs, thankfully, making it to the second floor. As she finished stepping down the stone staircase, she saw down the corridor a young peer who was ramming into the wall. From afar it looked as though hit hurt; she couldn't help but to wince as a result of watching him do such a thing. Bloom walked over to the young Hufflepuff with a small smile.
"What are you doing?" she asked, walking up closer to him. Bloom looked at the wall that he rammed into and it was what seemed like a fake door. Why would he be working so hard to get into a door that doesn't truly exist? "Doors typically work when you use the knob," she said, joking.

Marius stopped upon hearing a voice, a voice which seemed to be speaking to him. The Hufflepuff turned around to face a fellow pupil, but who was much more senior than he was, or at least that was how she looked like to him.
She asked what he was doing at first, and then followed it up by saying that most doors could be opened by their knobs. Truth be told, Marius was not sure what she was going to do. Would she help him? Laugh at him? Make fun of him every time they happened to pass each other? He decided, however, that whatever the older pupil planned to do, he would behave nicely to her, like he did to mostly everyone.
"I'm trying to get to History of Magic," he replied politely. "Am I at the right corridor?"
The Chinese-English boy unconsciously stared back at the wall he had rammed into previously, still thinking that it was a door. Inwardly, he debated whether or not he should inform the girl that he knew most doors were opened if people used their knobs, but many doors at Hogwarts were different. At the end he decided against it and looked back at the veteran student, hoping for an answer and a help.

It seemed that the young student was having a very difficult time not only going into the door. Little did they know that they were also on the wrong floor. There was no way for the History of Magic class to be on the second floor of the castle. It was known to be the first floor. So no matter how many doors the first year ventured into, he would never get to their class. Just the thought: who knows what he would find opening random doors to this castle!
"Well, History of Magic with Professor Zahid is downstairs one more floor. So no, you're not in the right corridor," she said, matter-of-factly. She could let the first year figure it out for himself the way she had to, or she could help him. Holding her books, Bloom urged the first year to follow her. "Come on, I'll help you get you to your class," she said with a smile.
"I'm Bloom Silverton, fifth year," she introduced herself to the young boy while walking towards the stairs, her chocolate brown hair flowing with her walk. She could tell he was definitely a first year, but she wondered more if he was Muggle-Born or not by the way he was interacting with the strange doors of the building.

So, he was not even on the right floor.
Flushing, Marius could feel heat rise up to his cheeks, his throat, and breast. It was lucky for him the older student decided to help him, otherwise he might be late for class. Initially thinking that she was one terribly serious individual without sympathy toward others, the Hufflepuff started to feel that it was wrong of him to think so just because she told him "so no"; he did not know why, he just did not like it when people used said phrase to him.
The teenager introduced herself as fifth year Bloom Silverton as they walked, so Marius, still rubbing his hurting arm, told her, "I'm Brown. Marius Brown. First year, Hufflepuff." He thought that Bloom walked rather quickly, but perhaps it was merely because she had been ahead of him and he was following.
The Chinese-English boy walked faster so they could walk next to each other, and as he moved closer to his senior, Marius could not help but noticing how thin she was. Had she been ill recently? Or was there something that stressed her out much, perhaps a family matter?
It all would be too personal though, so instead of satisfying this curiosity, the Hufflepuff decided to ask, "How's life and school at Hogwarts actually? I still find it quite a lot to take in, but I guess things may get easier after three months or so. At least that's what most people say..."
