Almost as soon as the words were out of his mouth came a flurry of spells as movement, as the assembled duelists all cast spells and/or attempted to move out of the way of incoming spells. Unlike the free-for-all though, the outcome of the first round was closer to his expectations. Perhaps it was the stress of having to watch out for so many things, but there were a slew of backfiring spells, from Avery, Cody and Hunter.

Even blinded, Hunter retained the presence of mind to duck, just in time to move out of the way of a spell sent his way by Youssuf.

While some things changed from the last game, others stayed the same. Della had clearly been practising in her free time, as she executed a perfect Dancing Feet Spell at Liana. The Slytherin prodigy seemed to have been prepared for spells coming her way, and easily managed to dodge out of the way of the knockback jinx sent her way by Draven. She seemed primed to escape the other spells sent her way as well, but her movement was off by a fraction of a second, getting her clipped by the Gryffindor captain. The resulting tapping of feet let Liana staggered unable to dodge out of the way of Vale’s Incendio. Ming nodded in grim satisfaction. Liana had definitely improved in her reflexes from the last round, as she had almost managed to avoid each of the spells targeting her. It was such a shame that almost success was still failure. But at least it was a start.

Amidst the chaos of the casting, it appeared that Draven had also been blinded somehow. Who’d managed to do that? Ming had not seen, there was simply too much going on.

Before things could continue, a vaguely familiar face enters the Duelling Club. By the size of him, he must have been an upperclassman, and the red trimmings marked him for a Gryffindor.

"Oi, Baid. Professor Pendrast wants you in her office. Now.". Then, without giving the rest of the event so much as a second glance, the upperclassman left.

A brusque and unexpected interruption, but with a nod from Ming, the first-year Gryffindor duellist left.

It was a given that people would be casting at Liana from the start - she was ready for that. What she was not ready for was the sheer number of spells coming her way. Four? She had thought it would be a couple, but not four - more than half of the enemies had set their sights on her. Luckily, Chen seemed as unable to turn his wand against her as she had been unable to turn hers against him in the last game. Also somewhat luckily - although a lot of effort was involved as well - she evaded Mirador's attack. That was where her luck ended. Barfield and Ashwood managed to hit their mark, both causing a great amount of pain.

The tactics of both opponent teams were remarkably similar. Having two people cast at Liana, and one person go for Hunter - had it been planned? Had the petty albino pussy cat, who called herself a lioness, allied with Chen before the game started? Or did the Asian boy approach her first, plotting against Liana much like he had plotted against Hildegard? The redhead had been under the impression that he and Schneider were at odds, and that he wouldn't collude against a friend. If there really was such an alliance, it would certainly cut all bonds, real and fictional, faster than you can say 'Wargames'.

HIS FREAKING SPELL BACKFIRED! Cody grumbled sharply. His eyes darted around. His spell aimed towards @Hunter Argentum was a horrendous way to well- live. Or... well, Cody's thoughts were being obscured by major confusion. Whatever did happen, Cody began to pout heavily. His attitude though, was in a pouting mood, not necessarily his tears were shown.

He noticed that even his target backfired on his spell, even when he was targeting @Avery Chen. AND Avery backfired on his spell. What was this?! Was this a chain reaction? Was this started by the Cody? The Part Goblin?

What he intended to do, was not to necessarily cause Chaos, like his other days, but today, he seemed to be more of a laughingstock. Cody looked humiliated. This was his fault. He was sure of it!

He looked back at @Della Barfield and @Vale Ashwood, hoping that maybe they'd be of assistance. This was after all, for the... well... Cody despised this thought... friends. Indeed, Della and Cody were on a... momentary pause in being towards hate with each other.

But Cody, he was just a pretender around Vale. He would love to go dark, but he feared it messed with Chaos. But hopefully today, this would blend well, as well as the hate. Maybe that would fuel his next attack.

Draven arched an eyebrow in Baid's direction, not moving an inch from his spot in the circle. Normally, he would have reached across to shake his hand. But Draven had no respect, nor kindness to spare for Youssuf Baid.

The other boy had ruined what was supposed to be a lovely time with Juni, leaving behind a long, awkward silence after his departure. Now, Draven had to fight the urge to hex his teammate rather than the opposing team. An urge that only grew stronger when then guy thumped his back.

"Touch me again and you lose a hand," Draven said politely, giving him a bored smile. It didn't quite reach his eyes, cold, silent rage boiling just underneath the polite disinterest. He envisioned hooking his foot around Youssuf's ankle, sending him crashing to the the ground. Leaving bruises on his beautiful hickory skin. But no. Gentlemen didn't get their hands dirty, and he didn't intend to do so. At least not tonight.

Returning his attention back to the match, Draven slipped off his cloak and folded it neatly, setting it aside, on one of the stools beside the podium. Then the match begun. Leveling his wand at one of the girls on the opposing team, Draven took a moment to frown at it. Felix had never quite fit in his hand. It was that momentary distraction that made him miss. Hesitation. And his Flippendo wooshed passed the opponent's ear. He was rewarded with a blast of green sparks to the face.

Draven's eyes watered, field of vision going black before him.

Now that he was here, Avery was focused on having fun during this event. It wasn't everyday that students at Hogwarts were allowed to sling some spells against each other without getting detention, and he was planning to take advantage of that opportunity. Grasp it with both hands, he would.

As Draven Mirador turned to him with an outstretched hand, Avery was slightly surprised by the pale and slightly tired-looking face that greeted him. Nevertheless, there was a smile on Draven's face as he leaned over to shake Avery's hand, and Avery beamed back. "Oh, please just call me Avery!" he quipped. "Only the professors call me 'Mr. Chen', and I hope we're closer now that since we're facing common foes!" What was that saying? A common goal breeds friendship? He chuckled at the thought of having 'foes' here. None of the people on the other teams were close to being his enemies; in fact, he had quite a few friends among their ranks who he hoped would also have a fun time today.

The thrill of adrenaline in his veins... that was something he founding himself striving for more and more these days. It seemed that the wiles of boarding school had brought out his sense of adventure too eagerly.

As Youssuf Baid approached them, he would greet their third teammate enthusiastically as well. Then, it began. As he snapped up from his bow, he aimed his wand directly at DADA prodigy Liana Kerr. For a second, his mind froze as he set his gaze upon his red-haired friend. Was he a tad nervous aiming his wand at her? There was the slightest fear that she, unlike the carefree Maggie Hawkins, would actually take this personally. With Maggie, they could jokingly shout all forms of obscenities and prod at each other in good fun, without feeling much insulted at all, but Liana was different. "Tarantall---what?" he fumbled, drawing the partial square with his wand but somehow got unwillingly tongue-tied last second. Oh my, it's only been a few months since the first Wargames and he's already gotten rusty. The blast sent a shock wave up his arm, and his spell backfired. Before he knew it, he was doing a cowboy boogie, crisscrossing his legs as he stepped and turned. The small boy shrugged his shoulders and sighed. So much for being the model of leadership and success for his team.

Before his dance steps turned him 90 degrees -- this was a form of square dancing, no? -- he caught sight of Draven's jinx missing Liana by a hair. "Don't worry, you got this, Draven!" he shouted before his feet made him complete a turn, and he could see Youssuf leaving in a hurry. "Oh hey, where you going?" he called out, but the boy was gone, quick as a ghost. From his position, he caught sight of Clair Fernandez, the girl he had recently befriended at that disastrous hot pot party. Was she here to spectate and cheer them on? "Clair! We need your help!" he found himself calling out to her. Surely, she was a broom racer and the type to seek out an opportunity for excitement, too? "I'll -- I'll give you some chocolate frogs!" One man down -- what was a boy to do?

xxxxHunter was prepared for his first attack, but never before did he actually have full intention of using a harmful spell on a student. Despite being in a wargame, he was still at war with his own mind. Despite his blank stare and prepared stance, he wasn't completely sure if he could harm another student. Either way, he was still bound to learn a few things out of this battle, such as witnessing a spell backfire for the first time.

Hunter wasn't quick on his feet when it came to casting, and it took him a bit to notice Cody's wand pointing right at him. Having witnessed Cody's spell backfire had caught Hunter off guard made him break the few rules of casting a spell: concentration and enunciation. He fumbled on his own words and he could already tell based on the bright green glow of his wand that it wasn't going to end well for him. The brightness grew in size and eventually grew large enough to cover Hunter in a brilliant green glow that soon diminished swiftly after. His eyes stung in pain and a few tears could be seen leaving his eyes. His hands covered his face and he wondered if he was going to end up being partially blind after a stunt like that. With his eyes requiring time to adjust, he could feel his instincts come into play. He had no time to think, no time to re-plan, it was move and survive. Despite little to no sight, Hunter could still hear the sounds and feeling of spells flying through the air. Perhaps his hearing was better than it usually was, or perhaps it was just pure instinct overcoming his muscle movements. He did a swift duck to which he immediately felt something swish through the tips of his hair.

Hunter needed more time to re-adjust his sight. He also wanted to know who had cast a spell at him to know who to be wary of. He forced his eyes to a bare squint, the very light of the sun was almost too much to bear. The pain in his eyes consisted, but Hunter could see a few things. When he looked over at the direction he felt the spell cast at him fly by, he saw three blurry figures and one seemed to have been running away. He was having trouble identifying who the two other students were, but one was definitely making a lot of movements. Hunter shifted his gaze around a bit more, he wasn't sure of what to do. He looked back towards his teammates and could see two blurry figures, but a bit more clear than the previous two. He could tell one of them was possibly on fire based on how much Hunter's eyes hurt from looking at the flames.

But some small announcements:

2/ Youssuf Baid has left this event for events outside my control. Clair Fernandez will replace Baid in Avery's team, permission for this was sought and granted OC
3/ Deadlines remain unchanged for all teams, so Clair needs to indicate in a post here that she chooses to join Avery's team, and what her action for this round is.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, participants. If you have any issues or problems, feel free to owl me, or reach out via Discord

Clair had entered the room to just watch, she was wearing a blue shirt and a pair of stretchy pants
And as she sat down she had she seen Avery's spell backfire, ouch! She had been caught with that very spell herself, yet she could not help but giggle a little, as she watched and tried to figure out who was on what team, that is if there was teams, but even if she had planned on only just watching, at that moment she was wearing a blue shirt and a pair of stretchy pants.
when Youssuf ran off and Avery called to her was a little frazzled, why did they need her? Was there teams? Or was it each to his or her own? She came over and pulled out her wand "are we a team? Or are we killing each other?" She ask Avery, a slight bit confused still, Clair got ready.
She knew that Draven and Avery seemed to be on a team, they had talked to each other, but other wise she had no idea, well this would be fun either way, shooting spells at a fast pace and not getting detention for it was always a plus.

Hearing Avery's question about Hunter not yet meeting Familia made Vale confused. It wasn't like Vale was showing off Familia to her friends when she first met them either. She was even ready to excitedly tell everyone of who Hunter was to her, only to stop before a word came out. Her mind quietly reminded her of the day Hunter and her learned of their shared hertiage. Of the consequences they'd face, especially Hunter, if it was publicly revealed. The cruelty of others and how far it can go. Vale's mother went through it. Her father also went through the same treatment. Even her older brother, Raydon. Her family, shunned. Hunter would be treated the same.

Vale didn't speak.

Instead she observed what was going on around her as quickly as her eyes would let her.

Let's see. Liana was on fire along with one of her own teammates. And Hunter, poor boy, was in no good shape either. Vale kept a large smile at it all.

"Wow Liana! You're a smoking hot mama now! Matt's gonna regret what he did!" She clapped her hands together like she was watching the most brilliant soap opera to date. A very, very messy soap opera.

Vale wished she was in the stands instead eating popcorn as she watched one of Avery's teammates ditch his own team and force another poor first year to get into the mess that was the wargames.

"Aw Cody, as much fun as it is, you can't be setting yourself on fire like this. I don't think Della wants us doing that..." Cody was on fire too. Was it on purpose? If it was, Vale was very proud of the small boy. But unfortunately, and despite the choas that was happening now...

Vale wasn't sure if she was getting bored already with how things were going.

But Vale knew better than to stop now.

Della and Vale both aimed for the Slytherin prodigy, as planned. Unfortunately for Liana, other wands were aimed at her as well. However, only Della's team's aim was true. Avery's spell backfired, and Liana was able to dodge Draven's flipendo. She didn't seem happy to have deal with so many foes at once, dancing while on fire—well, who would be?

Della smirked for a moment at the Slytherin girl. Della had been in her position, and it felt great to not be everyone's target in this duel. But the smirk quickly faded to a guilty frown. Somewhere in her conscience, a tiny voice was trying to lecture her that revenge wasn't the answer.

Before she could argue with the voice or succumb to its persuasion, an older student interrupted the match. At first, she thought they were all going to get in trouble. Had Ming not cleared this with a professor? But it was only that Youssuf had to leave. Oh, that put Avery's team at a disadvantage. But only for a split second—in an awfully convenient coincidence, Avery was able to convince a Ravenclaw first-year to join the fray. Was that allowed?

Della turned to both her teammates, hoping they could wordlessly communicate a new strategy with a new person on the field, but Cody was on fire, and Vale unhelpfully chastising him. Della rubbed her temples, hoping they both still had the plan in mind.
