Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 5
The growing pain as the magic fire came into contact with Autumn's skin was barely bearable. For all that she loved casting Incendio Duo, she was clearly less enthusiastic about the returned favour. Eventually though, it began fading away, and Autumn had a second of relief as the smoke of Mars's Fumos dissipated around them. But because Autumn was an idiot with terrible luck, the moment lasted only a few seconds before she heard Aida casting the spell once again.
She only wished that her temporary gift of sight had passed away faster, that it hadn't given her the opportunity to watch both her and Lea's spells miss. Still, the deep rumble of the lightning clouds above her opponent's head was promising, and maybe if she didn't like smoke or fire as much after this duel, she could make up for it with a newfound love of thunder.
She heard Lea ask whether she was okay. That was nice of her, Autumn thought. She didn't really know how to reply though. Yes? She was on fire and she couldn't see a thing. No? That wasn't the normal, appropriate answer to the question, and Naomi had told her to cut back on the lying. So, she stayed silent, giving an indecisive mumble and a small, acknowledging grunt and fell painfully silent.

With the storm clouds loomed dangerously overhead and that past few rounds, it seemed like they were getting ready to strike at any moment. Even now, they glowed brighter as the energy in the air amassed into what could only be an inevitable discharge. Mars was not going to risk this as they aimed their cherry wood wand to the sky and dispersed the clouds. When they disappeared, there would be a notable change in the atmosphere as the fine hairs on everyone close enough relaxed.
The other three would be concerned with each other but not one of them successful. Autumn and Lea had their wands trained on Aida. Both the Tongue-Tying Spell and the Slowing Charm would miss her in the dense smoke. Aida may not have been affected by the smoke, but Autumn’s instincts kept her from being set on fire all anew as Aida’s Incendio Duo missed her by a slim margin.
It was clear that fumos was affecting the Hufflepuffs precisely as desired, but all sides were unchanged at the end of the round.

It was still early in the match, but Aida took Mars's success as a good omen for the outcome of the match. The white mage was in a better mood by far than last time, trying to hold onto a new lease on life. Optimism brimming through an invisible smile, Aida was glad to have Mars on their team.

English ⋆ ParseltongueMars pointed their wand straight up, just making out the edge of the grumbling cloud above them. They chanted the Weather-Modifying Counter-Charm, watching as it gave one final flash before dissipating into the smoke. Which was still thick of course, thick enough that figures were barely visible in the midst of it all.
What was not obscured though, were the spells. Mars flinched reflexively as three jets of light streamed out from the haziness, coloring the fog with their respective shines. However, none came close to them. It seemed their opponents had locked onto Aida instead. Mars smiled. Smart. The mage was a far bigger threat at the moment.
Praying that in the far away dark, Aida had been left unscathed, Mars turned their eyes back to the duel. In the peace of it all, it was much easier to think. Flipping their wand, they readied themselves for the next spell.

Autumn inhaled and cast the Slowing Charm at Aida. The mage had an advantage and Autumn wasn't a fan. Her lack of success was nothing but salt on the wound as she mournfully watched the storm cloud over her opponent's heads dissolve. Autumn's mood was down, certainly, but her instincts were not. She saw the flare of a spell cutting through the smoke towards her and dodged at the last moment, identifying the spell then as Incendio Duo. And she had thought that she enjoyed fire. Clearly the Ravenclaws were more destructive than she had expected. But that was fine. Autumn hadn't joined duelling for easy fights.

This smoke was getting really annoying. The whole not being able to see one's target made everything increasingly complicated in ways it didn't feel it needed to be. Good on Ravenclaws for getting an advantage, the tactic made sense- but it wouldn't stop Lea's feelings of frustration. Especially with the fact that she couldn't do anything against it.
Her tongue-tying jinx went off into the cloud of smoke, but the hufflepuff was fairly certain that no one would get hit. To add to that was the new silence from the clouds. No longer were flashes of lightning brightening up the other side of the piste. The second year would try to cast her frustrations aside before preparing for the next round of seeing nothing.

This round was the mark of the halfway point of the duel, and it was almost a repeat of round 1, only it seemed that fate did not entirely like reruns.
Autumn Pointed her wand at the sky, and she could have sworn the movement and incantation were correct. Yet, something just felt wrong. Thankfully given her dedication to the craft, she skillfully canceled the spell instead of blowing back on her and her teammate.
Lea was not here for Aida being able to take advantage of the fog and sent another tongue tie her way. Unfortunately, it would not be in time to save her teammate from being set on fire.
Mars directed their wand at Autumn, trying to make her dance. Unfortunately, the very smoke that their partner could take advantage of would also hinder the poor Wix. Autumn would not be making an impression of Madonna from the ’80s. However, this mod would like you to see what your fate would have been. Enjoy.
Aida was keeping on with what seemed to be their signature move this match, and this time it really paid off. A roar of flames jetted across the stage towards Autumn and consumed her. The girl looked like she had taken significant damage. The right arm of her robes was on fire! It looked like it would try and eat away her clothes for a while, unlike the last time.

In the corner of the room Aida’s owl Scheherazade hooted uselessly ZaZa, as the desert tawny owl was known, always attended Aida’s duels. Though this one was progressing faster than usual, the little bird seemed bored early. Aida made a grunt back at it, and distracted for a moment, got hit by another tongue-tie.
“You want adventure, do you? What do you think I’m training for?” said Aida in a sassy-but-amused tone. ZaZa cooed back pathetically. “I know, but there’s nothing to do about Alexander right now. If he wants our help he can ask. I was too presumptuous before. It’s not about you and me; his quest is his and we are mere allies. We’ll find a new adventure soon, okay?” Aida, going on in the fog with their owl as if no one else were present, let out a long sigh. ZaZa fell silent again. “You want to help others, I know. Right now we’ll win this for Mars, alright? We will be useful to them right now.”
Raising their wand back en garde, Aida prepared for the next round.

English ⋆ ParseltongueFrom the sound of it, and the brilliant red flash from behind the smoke, Mars assumed Aida had hit a mean Incendio Duo at their opponent. They, however, had not been so lucky. Unfortunately, no tell-tale tapping sounded from the other side of the piste.
It seemed otherwise like nothing had happened. Maybe Aida had been hit with something too? They weren't quite sure. Mars squinted through the fog, twirling their wand over a finger.
"Come on, show yourselves," they whispered. Not like it was really the Badgers fault though. Their wand gave a little shake, as if agreeing. Mars stared down at it, stopping their twirl.
"You too," they told it, "Get it together." Ah, they were going insane. Duelling was apparently really taking it out of them.
Sighing, Mars slid into a low stance. They very gracefully dropped their wand, as if the thing was indignant about the insult, and scrambled to pick it up, brushing the hair from their eyes. Well... at least no one could really see.

It was unfortunate to notice that the storm cloud had not arrived. While smoke still covered the duellist's eyes, there were no flashes of light or deep rumbles to accompany it. She had been certain that Autumn would try to bring it back, but perhaps not.
Lea really had no way to tell whether her own had hit. It had certainly left her wand, but beyond that- no clue. At the very least, the second year had focused quite a bit on where she thought the ravenclaw stood before letting the spell fly. So perhaps it had worked?
As for the eagles, they seemed to have had some success as well as brown eyes noticed the new gradient of reds and oranges on the hufflepuff side. The girl grimaced, but said nothing- it seemed far to late to ask whether Autumn was doing alright.
