Alina nodded along sagely as Mardella laughed at the story of her father. "Yeah, he got a lot of nicknames out of that. I don't think he ever really lived it down." Out of the corner of her eye, Alina saw students starting to get up and gather in groups, no doubt waiting to be lead back to their dorms.
"Shakespurr...oh Merlin, that's awful!" Mardella snorted, trying make her thoughts feel lighter again. "Awful but genius!"
"He was a terribly grumpy old cat," she grinned, admiring the way the girl's face lit up with unashamed laughter and joy. Students beside her started getting up, and she could hear prefects calling out to gather in groups.
"Fishface...bubbles?" It was true the girl seemed to have a bubbly personality but, "I feel like there's a story behind that," She teased.
"Oh believe me, there is!" She looked pointedly at her, before grinning. "But I guess it's finally time to see our dorms! " She gushed, sliding out of her seat and adjusting the uniform on her body. It still felt weird on her, she never wore skirts like this for extended periods, but she had seven years to get used to it.

"I'm just going to take a quick run to the girls lav, hopefully I'll make it back in time. See you Mardella! It was really nice chatting with you!" She called out, before rushing out of the hall and taking a couple turns down hallways. Wait, where was that lav again? Wait...where was she now? Is this hallway the same one she came in from? Oh dear...

And Alina is out. Thanks for RPing with me! See you around the dorm~

Nora felt a growing anxiety as she was crowded around by other new students to Hogwarts having very little time to marvel at the immense castle as they walked down the halls and to the main staircase. Coming to the grounds after the long train ride was a relief however when they were all met and told they would be sorted, well, that relief was quickly doused. Nora did not do well in social situations and she was dealt with attention even worse. She watched each student approach the stool with the old hat on top of it that squirmed to life as they were to be sorted into their houses.

She did not know much about the houses called out but she knew at least what certain shields she liked. She looked to all the other students as they cheered for the new comers when their house was called and to the robes they all wore. She didn't mind green, she even liked snakes but some of the members of the house called Slytherin looked less then welcoming. She liked the color blue and the students of that house seemed more kind and she crinkled her nose at the yellow robes. Lastly was the color red, Gryffindor she believed she heard. Red. It reminded her of the blood that sprayed across the walls when her parents were murdered, it was the only thing that seemed to burrow its way into her memories from her childhood and the last thing she remembered of her parents.

"Nora Green." Her name rang out as it was called pulling her attention from the robes and she slowly slipped through the other students, tugging her robe sleeves down to her palms as the butterflies in her stomach turned into a swarm of locusts and she felt like she was going to be sick. She was a bit short for the stool, but she hopped up onto it and got settled, gazing up to the hat as it was held over her head before she felt the weight of it land softly against her dark brown hair. She could feel the eyes on her from the others and adverted her eyes down to the floor while turning the fabric of her black robes into a knot in her palms.

"Hmmmmm....." The hat puzzled and she felt the locusts swarmed again. "A Green...It has been quite sometime since Green's attended Hogwarts. But I remember them all. There is a strength in you. Something hidden and not yet found. But with the right house that will only be a matter of time. But which house to place you in?" It questioned Nora but she had no answers for it. She only knew she wanted to bring honor to her family name, small voices echoing in her ears from a time long since passed. "Cowards," they whispered and Nora shook her head gently.

"They were not cowards. They stood up for what they saw as right and what they believed in, I won't let it be in vain." She muttered, closing her eyes as her hands tightened on the cloth. "Ahhh, there you are. Finally out of hiding. It is clear, yes, very clear......" The hat paused a moment before its voice raised beyond just the two of them. "Gryffindor!" She didn't know how to feel about the choice but she heard the cheers and quickly hopped off the stool, only looking up to find a seat at the table mostly empty while behind her another student took the seat.

She quietly moved to the seat she found and exhaled, calming her nerves now that she didn't feel the eyes of the others on her and she picked at the wood table in front of her as the sorting hat called out more houses once again. She was unsure how well she would fit in with her house, but she was relieved the ordeal was done and she looked forward to exploring the castle as much as possible. She even saw some woods nearby that she knew she would find more like home.

"Everything I touch soon is taken and rots away.....it is best to stay as far away from me as you can....don't walk...run from me screaming..you'll live longer that way."

The fair-haired boy sat down at the Gryffindor’s table. He watched for a moment other first-year students sitting next to him, and then older students. The first were tense like him, and he felt relieved. The table buckled under the weight of food, but Angus was not hungry, or he was, but he would not be able to swallow anything. And besides, how could he know if food was enchanted? Born in a Muggle family he has known the whole wizarding world for a month, he learned that nothing can be certain. Passing a magical street behind the bar that no one notices? Of course! And a platform that you can get by running into the wall? Why not. Yeah, he was getting used to it. Now he was staring at the ceiling. Above him was just starry night sky, and if it were not for the fact that he had read a piece of the vast volume of Hogwarts: A History on the train, he would have thought that there was simply no vault.
He was still slightly nervous and scared after they put a talking hat on his head, which decided of his future for the next seven years. On the train he read a lot about Hogwart’s houses. He thought he would be assigned to Ravenclaw, "Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind" - it suited him. He also considered Hufflepuf "Where they are just and loyal", but Gryffindor? He did not expect this. Nobody would ever describe him courage or bold. No one would describe him anyhow except " this quiet someone in the library"

Something loud and shiny flew over his head.

After all, it will be a good year.

Kathleen sat down, excited at the prospect of having her first meal in the Great Hall. It was a perfect night. Gleaming stars glittered above her, magically projected onto the ceiling. She pulled back her chair with a loud squeaking noise and sat down. Ready to tuck in, she picked up a silver fork embossed with a lion. This, she found pretty confusing. Why on earth should the cutlery at the Ravenclaw table be decorated with Gryffindor's symbol? Maybe the witch or wizard who had laid out the forks and knives had made a mistake, but as she looked around, her fellow students all had the same. Coming straight from the Sorting Ceremony, she did not know any of them, but...
A tiny girl stared up at her, her pig-like nose turned up in disgust. Kathleen felt blazing anger. What was wrong about her? She thought Ravenclaws would be tolerant about Muggle-borns! The girl opened her mouth smeared with bright pink, glittery lip gloss and spoke in a squeaking voice. "You are at the wrong table" she said with a strong London accent. Kathleen was unsure what to make of it. Was this an insult, telling her she had not the brains for Ravenclaw? The girl spoke on: "You are in Ravenclaw, aren't you? Well, this is the Gryffindor table, silly girl. Scarper off!" More and more people turned their heads, staring at her. Kathleen felt horrified. She looked around and her heart sank. This was not a prank - at her table, the Grey Lady was nowhere to be seen while Nearly Headless Nick floated around and held rapt conversations with her fellow... GRYFFINDORS? All blazing anger had magically vanished, instead, her face was blazing hot and probably as red as the remains of someone who had been cursed with Sectumsempra.

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.

Alice stepped down from the sorting hat and towards the long reaching table.  Immediately she was met with a mixture of facial responses. Alice liked to think she had gotten somewhat talented at reading physical cues in a person.  Most faces seemed bright and positive at their new inductee.  However, there was certainly no shortage of twisted looks and disgust.  This was expected.  Alice never fit in well with the status quo.  Her relaxed stature and rebellious ego often didn't sit well with others.

"Hey, you! New girl!" A voice piped up from the other side of the table. Alice's emerald eyes rolled to the side to spot a long-haired blond in Gryffindor crimson, an established upper classman. She sat upright with her hands folded, two near identical lackeys on either side.  She seemed prim and proper; the foil to Alice's contrarian design.  "For whatever reason you're a Gryffindor now.  Could you at least try to look the part and not embarrass us?"  Her tone was kind but her words cold and piercing.  The girl's friends immediately joined in a synchronized giggle.

There was a knee jerk reaction for situations like this.  Alice had little magic or spells at her disposal but she had two fists that she was not shy of using. Fists clenched at her sides.  "You have a temper, kid." Her adoptive father's voice rang in her head. "Don't let it get the better of you or you'll live your life as it's servant." Alice's hands calmed and released.  The young witch leaned over the table, using her advantageous height to tower over the seated witch. Alice reached out, grabbing a thick drumstick of meat from the classmate's plate.  Eyes locked on the others she took a massive bite, taring the flesh with her sharp fangs. "Don't embarrass you, eh?" Alice spat with her mouth chewing open before tossing the bitten drumstick back onto the girl's plate with a loud clang. "I'll take that into consideration, lady. No promises!"  The 2nd year witch gasped in shock and fumed with anger as Alice stepped away into a sea of gossiping spectators to find her seat at the end of the table.

Moringa had just been sorted into Gryffindor. She wasn't particularly fond of any of the houses, but with both her parents being Slytherins she couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment when the hat shouted the house's name. She tried to convince herself that this was how it was meant to be, and that the sorting hat surely had good reason to put her in said house, and that she would soon realize why this house was the right one for her.
Today, she was far too excited about Hogwarts to consider spending the rest of the day pouting because of something she couldn't change.
As she set towards the Gryffindor table she looked around the Great Hall, marveling at the floating candles,  the starry sky above, and the hundreds of chattering students, immediately forgetting about the sorting ceremony.
She sat down at the end of her table at the same time as a fellow first year, a tall girl with dyed streaks of color in her blonde hair. Needless to say, she looked quite upset for this being her first time at Hogwarts: she had sat down with a loud huff and was currently avoiding her eye contact.
Moringa took this as her chance to make a new friend. She was sort of rusty in the matter, being that her friends back home had always been the same ones, and she never felt the need -or even had the possibility- to meet new kids.
She looked at the girl sitting opposite her for a moment, grabbed some food from the closest tray to put on her plate, and started eating voraciously without really giving second thought to how much like a starving animal she must've looked. After a mouthful of delicious food went down her throat and Moringa felt slightly more energized, she decided to finally speak up: "You're a first year too, right? Why do you look so upset? You wish you had been sorted into a different house, don't you? I bet you do. I didn't expect to get put into Gryffindor either, but then I realized the sorting hat would never put someone in the wrong house, so you probably deserved it as well. Not in a bad way, I mean, more like it must've had good reason to put you in Gryffindor, you know?". She punctuated the sentence with a questioning raise of her eyebrows, and took another bite of her food while continuing to stare at the other first year.

Alice had already settled and began the hard work of devouring everything in sight.  The orphanage of Birmingham rarely provided anything close to a feast.  The best they would eat there was whenever Christmas rolled around.  Even then the plates didn't endlessly fill themselves with more delectable fresh cooked dishes.  Needless to say Alice wasn't shy to grab as much as she could and gorge it down like a starving beast.  The witch was far from a refined lady.

As another first year sat across from Alice she brought her heavy emerald eyes upon the girl but made no effort to stop stuffing meats and breads into her puffed cheeks.  She sat chewing all while Moringa rambled her greeting and questions all in one swoop.  Upon completion Alice tossed her eyes from side to side and swallowed down whatever remained in her mouth. "Err... Hi?"  She coughed with a lifted brow. "What do I have to be upset about?  Each house seems as arbitrary as the next, right? Who am I to argue a worn out piece of head-gear with a personality?" Alice tossed her glance back to the upper classman with whom she had a confrontation just moments before. "Something tells me there is one of those in every house." Alice rolled her eyes and returned to the task at hand: eating.

Elrich took a seat at the table, still unable to shake his confusion at the Sorting Hat's decision to place him in Gryffindor. How would his parents react? His mother would get over it, but his father had never said a positive thing about the house in his entire life, always referring to them as idiotic and lazy. Was Elrich an idiot? Lazy? Good for nothing? These thoughts swirled in his head so fast that he had forgotten where he even was.

He tried to clear his head and look around. The other students seemed normal enough. He didn't get to meet that many people his own age in the past, so he didn't really know what to expect, regardless. They did not seem to be the brain-dead ignoramuses that his father had told him Gryffindors all were, so maybe things would not be so bad? He tried reminding himself that none of it really mattered; he was only there to get his education, graduate, and never look back. Why get attached?

He looked across the room at the other houses' tables, wondering if there were students there that felt the same as he did; that they had been a part of a horrible mistake and misplaced. Elrich had never thought of himself as much more than a studious, determined young man. Never really brave of heart or daring, but just determined to meet his goals. What was it the hat had said? That there was more to himself than even he knew? Absurd.

He returned his eyes to his own table, though food was the last thing he cared for at the moment. He let out a defeated sigh and decided to simply wait the ceremony out and try to work things out afterwards.

A boy sat down next to Norman. Elrich, his name was. Norman, absorbed in his book, didn't talk until the boy sighed. Normal looked up, smiled at him, and returned to his book.  He was reading one of his new textbooks from Flourish and Botts. Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them.

The night passed on. Norman would pause the book occasionally to grab a chicken wing or some ham. But overall he kept to himself. He was satisfied with Gryffindor but wished he had been in Ravenclaw like his mom. Noticing a bug on the floor, Norman smiled. His mischevious side was coming out.

He quietly set Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them down, and grabbed the roach. Unsure of what to do with it, he noticed a fellow first-year witch scarfing down food. He set it in a dish she was reaching for, and waited for a second for the scream. "AHHHHHGGGGGHHHHH" Mission Accomplished.

The Boy next to him snickered, he had seen Norman place the bug. Norman smiled and returned to what he was reading.

The girl returned to her seat, flustered, and continued her meal. But Normal felt he was being watched. He looked behind him to find Nick with his arms crossed. He smiled: Hogwarts was his home.

Justin walked over to his new house and sat down. His normally pale face was tinged with some red. He was angry that his sister was in another house. Not just any house, Gryfindor's rival, Slytherin.

The ebony haired boy's face returned to normal and he looked around the table with his light bluish grey eyes that if he glared at you it looked like he was stabbing your soul with a knife. He looked intimating as he looked at everyone with a small glare, like he resented everyone there. Which he sort of did, since his sister was not apart of this house.

Justin filled his plate with food and ate a roll. Then he drank some pumpkin juice. He sat the goblet down and combed his hand through his ebony hair as he continued to observe everyone at his table. He probably was scaring them. He looked like he had some awful grudge against them, but he couldn't help it. He was mad and at that moment in time he did resent them, but he would probably change his mind later. For now he just needed to calm down and not take it out on his fellow house mates.
