History/Background Story:
ReducioI was born near New Delhi, India, on the 11th of November, 2009. I am therefore a Scorpio. My mother is Anjali Baid; she works as the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Magic of India, based in New Delhi. I have three siblings; one older brother, Manu Baid - a Squib and therefore unable to attend a magical school and two younger sisters - twins, Aisha and Laila, who are set to attend Ilvermorny as soon as they turn 11. Since it is too much trouble to go back and forth from London to New Delhi, my mother settled me with my uncle, Arfaz Baid, who lives in Mablethorpe as a historian and a cataloguer. I go to his house in the holidays. I also have a distant cousin who is a wizard in your Ministry of Magic, although I have no idea what he does.
My uncle's library (at least a part of it)
I am a pureblood, with wizarding blood in me from the last 300 years at least. My uncle tells me that both of my grandfathers played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Indian Ministry of Magic, while their fathers were part of the wizarding rebellion which freed India from the British Empire. My ancestors were powerful wizards who were recognized for their abilities all over the country and in foreign parts as well. I've heard a rumor that one of my distant forebears was a Royal Physician in the court of Akbar, the Mughal Emperor.
I have warrior or Kshatriya blood in me, from my mother's side, while my father's family are Brahmans, or scholars. By historical profession, they are physicians. I have few, if any, Muggle friends, because I do not spend much time outside during the holidays. Despite my name, I was raised a Punjabi Hindu, and I spent most of my life in either Amritsar, Ludhiana or Delhi.
Before coming to Hogwarts, I attended a Muggle school, St. Xavier's, for 6 years at my father's insistence (he thought I should learn to interact with people; I agreed with him). However, at the age of 10, my mother divorced my father, and I was withdrawn from the school. She taught me magical history and the theory of some potions and charms, without, of course, a wand.
I was raised around people whose passion was books; hence, I too developed a passion for the same. I particularly love the fantasy and scifi genre in the Muggle world. My uncle possesses thousands of books at his home, to my utter and lasting delight. He never refuses me if I ask for a book. My father encouraged my fascination with the javelin throw as well, and he entered me into a Olympic training program as well. I have been taught about the javelin, been trained in the whole procedure. I still require work on the running part, but my arm muscles are very well-developed for a child of my age. I loved the javelin, even though the throwing sports weren't famous in India before Neeraj Chopra.
When I was born, my ma had a lot of trouble. My mother told me that she had never had to cast so many Memory Spells in a lifetime. Why, you ask? Why? Because my's hair kept changing colour. And my eyes were startlingly blue, then a deep greenish yellow and then the next moment, they were black as the deepest pit in the ocean.
I was not, as a rule, a troublesome child. And as I grew older, I learnt to control my shapeshifting. That, of course, is the main reason why I was not a troublesome child. Because I could always shift the blame to someone else's shoulders. For example, once we were out playing football in a small alley near Bangla Sahib, and the football flew and broke someone's window. Everyone else ran, but I stood still just long enough to let the owner see the face of my greatest enemy at that time, a kid called Aryan Kalle. Oh, that bully got the beating of his life then,
But as I grew older, I learnt not to misuse my given gift. That sort of thing was apparently punishable by wizarding law in many countries. However, I was still able to sneak into classes late and copy homework and such petty things pretty easily, until, of course, I learnt from my mother that I was to be sent to Hogwarts. My sisters were going to Ilvermorny the year after me and my brother wasn't magical. But they still supported me and taught me how to control my powers, and for that I am grateful to them forever.
I am nearly always happy and cheerful; but when I am not, I turn into a darkly sarcastic devil. I love to joke and to kid around, but I remain loyal to my friends no matter what. That's probably what put me in Gryffindor. I can be gruff at times, but I am never cold and never unfriendly to anyone. To be my friend would be a pleasure; to be my enemy would be a grave mistake.
I had my magical instance at the age of four. My father and I were visiting my uncle, and we were just driving towards his house. When we were turning a corner, a red sports car came barrelling towards us, at top speed. The driver saw us, and braked, but the car simply fishtailed and kept going. I clutched my father's hand, having a moment of pure and utter fear.
And when I opened my eyes, we were sitting on the other side of the road! I looked across the road, and saw that the other, red car was on its way again; while our old car had just one tiny scratch on its fender to show that the incident ever occurred.
I expected my father to be angry, but he picked me up and whirled me around joyfully, and when he'd finished, he told me that this proved without a doubt that I was a wizard. My uncle opened the front door and waved to us then, he'd heard something. I never saw a man so surprised in my life. Apparently, my father told me, I had made the car go straight down and across the road at a speed so fast that it was imperceptible!
I had a party too, a full party with my whole family and all. That, I think, impressed itself upon my mind more than the magic itself.
