Ravenclaw was currently on the lead. No words could possibly describe how proud the girl was of her little eagles. Needless to say, none of her birds got stuck in the vines unlike some badgers. Two Hufflepuffs tried to shoot some spells from their wands, and of course, they were not proficient enough to do it because not only they missed, one of them had the spell backfire. “DON’T YOU DARE HURTING MY EAGLES! ONE PEPPER SPRAY FOR EACH OF YOU!” No, it was not just all talk, they should wear big goggles starting tomorrow.
Vines, trees, rough walls, she winced everytime they got hurt by the environmental challenges, both her team and the other. Imagine the pain, but nothing could ever surpass the level of heartache once another girl that she didn’t know the name approached them nonchalantly, winking at the boy beside her. She didn’t, that was just how Aurora perceived it.
Jealousy, jealousy. Nick, Del, what is this monstrosity? It took her almost one year to make him call her by her first name, and he didn’t even give her a nickname but DEL!? And he missed the fact that she was also a quidditch player and in the headliner graphic team and his girl space friend. And now he was back to calling her Ranvier and not Aurora WHAT IS THIS? Okay, calm down. Which one was this ‘del’ person? The del as in Delilah Stewart or del as in whatever that del might be? If it was the white haired girl, maybe del was her last name, therefore, the jealousy would be totally baseless.
It was eating her alive, feasting on her mind. Are they close? Did they hold hands before? Did they snuggle up in the common room if they’re in the same house in front of the fireplace in the middle of the endless winter? Stupid person and her beautiful platinum hair. Jumping on top of the girl and screeching like a banshee that she was, turning into an angry cat when it was time for a bath, shaving off her entire head until it gleams and glistens would be the things Aurora would do if she had no self preservation. She had it, fortunately for the Daenerys counterfeit.
She sighed a little too loud, with the intention to pierce through Nicholas’ thick skull. Eyes on the match, pretended to enjoy every second of it. Despite her best attempt to hide the laid out jealousy, surely everyone could easily spot it since it has no cloak of invisibility. “T-thanks” She didn’t bother to look at him as well, biting the inside of her mouth, clenching one of her fists, then sending a short glare towards the silver haired girl before looking back into the void.

Yeah, of course, Dell. Dell? A nickname? Della wasn't sure if the cold would hide her blush now. Only her mom and aunt had shortened her name. She never received a nickname from a peer before. She sat down on the same bench as the group and managed a "Thanks."@Nicholas McCowan | @Aurora Ranvier | @Delilah Stewart
Nick introduced the Ravenclaw girls, and Della began to catch her bearings. Or not."I'm Dell-a." For some reason, she had more emphasis on the "a" than she had meant. Oh, she hoped that didn't come off as a slight to Nick. "But yeah, you can call me Dell. That's fine." Wait, why had she said that? Did she mean that? Was it fine?
She attempted to recover, giving both of the older girls a smile, "I just joined the Headliner, so I think I'll be seeing you both around."
Della then followed Nick's gaze to watch the fifth-year Hufflepuff struggle through the vines. She winced at her own memory of taking them on yesterday. "That's rough. It's hard to watch—it was nice when you and I were in the lead together, but I didn't enjoy going through the vines first."
Della looked at the Gryffindor captain, but his eyes were still on the race. She did, however, meet the eyes of the Ravenclaw captain. Shockingly, Aurora was shooting daggers. At Della? The first-year Gryffindor looked behind her, but it seemed she had to be the target of the murderous glance. When she looked back at the Ravenclaw, Aurora's eyes had returned to the race. Weird.

Miriam was late.…again. She had been so excited for this broom racing weekend that she had completely forgotten to set her alarm for the second day in a row. You’d think that Miriam would learn after her tardiness yesterday caused her to miss so much of the race, but she unfortunately didn’t.
It had only been a few weeks since Miriam had received the job as the new flying Professor at Hogwarts and it would be safe to say that she hated having to wake up early. Classes started at 9 am and she almost always had to wake up at 7 am in order to eat breakfast and set up her class in time. Hopefully over time she would adjust to the new schedule but for now her weekends were spent trying to catch up on that sleep. Due to that bad sleep schedule, Miriam was late to another Hogwarts broom race.
Broom racing had been Miriam’s life for the last 15 years and it was really hard for her to leave the professional leagues, yet she did it to try and teach the next generation of flyers. Now that she was here, it was moments like watching Hogwarts try out broom racing that made the whole change in career worth it. The fact that they were implementing broom racing as a sport at Hogwarts made Miriam extremely excited, and she was so happy that she got hired before the season started.
Regardless of how excited she was, Miriam found herself waking up at 9:15 am, fifteen whole minutes after the start of the race. Literally jumping out of bed, Miriam got dressed as quickly as humanly possible for a half asleep person and tried to make herself look presentable. She threw on a scarf and a hat as she rushed towards the Great Hall to grab a piece of breakfast. The students that she ran by probably looked shocked at seeing their new professor darting down the halls, but she had a job to do. Picking up some food, Miriam slowed her pace so that she could eat properly and figure out where she was going.
Finally arriving upon the designated cheering area, Miriam found herself counting the amount of people there. There was definitely more that the previous day but in her mind there still wasn’t enough. If the sport was going to gain any traction then more people would need to show up to support their friends. Entering the stands, Miriam found herself walking towards a brown haired who seemed to be standing alone while watching the race. “Hello! Despite the weather, what a wonderful day we have for racing here!” Miriam exclaimed to the student. It was cold and lightly snowing, but these kids could have had much worse weather to race in.
Staring out at the race before her, Miriam’s smile brighten as she saw so many racers in the front. Sometimes one person would get away early and it would be hard to catch up but with multiple from each team in the front, it essentially let the teams play a fun game. Not knowing which team to cheer for, Miriam looked back towards the student and asked, “So which house are you rooting for today?”
Life is meant for great adventures

Nicholas watched the race with the sort of contentment that was only afforded to the incredibly dense or oblivious. Not that he would claim either such title, after all, his attention was entirely focused on the zooming shapes of the badgers and eagles, their tactics and movements noted down with the sort of fanatical attitude that he assumed the role of captain demanded. Whether or not it did require such commitment was yet to be seen, but the important thing was that he thought it did, and so he gave his attention entirely to the race. Perhaps, if his attention wasn’t so intently focused on the race, he’d have noticed the utterly sour look on his girl friend’s face. Alas, Nicholas McCowan was many things, but a boy blessed with the skill of being aware of the goings on and intentions of others, particularly girls, was not one of them.
“You’re welcome,” He said idly, his earlier embarrassment at having spoken to Aurora somewhat evaporated by the thanks. Clearly, his awkwardness around her and his own utter denial of any feelings had gone unnoticed.
Instead, his eyes only turned from the race to speak to Barfield, “Yeah, it was good, hey? Bloody thrilling, you're a natural, Dell. You see that?”
Nicholas bumped Aurora with his shoulder as he asked, body contact made but eye contact not offered, “We were pretty good together up front, right?”
She’d come to see him race after all, surely she saw the period of time when he and the first year were leading the pack.

"I just joined the Headliner, so I think I'll be seeing you both around."
Well, I don’t think so. Indeed, she would see the older Del, but not Aurora. Because everytime their path crosses, four sprays of pepper spray on both eyes would be the only thing she’d get before seeing the beautiful inside of her eyelids. Her cheek was growing red, like a spilled sticky and unappetizing expired strawberry juice on her face. She was blushing. Was it the cold or was it the presence of the mr. perfectly fine? She just wanted to slap those cheeks back and forth until no one could distinguish her with the gryffindor common room wall.
“Yeah, it was good, hey? Bloody thrilling, you're a natural, Dell. You see that?”
Natural? Naturally aggravating is what she is. Totally unacceptable, he didn’t even pronounce her last name right and now he was worshipping this uninvited guest. Small but eminent. It stung like a paper cut.
“We were pretty good together up front, right?”
How inconsiderate. Underdeveloped twelve year old brain with inexistent romance lobes. was he overdosed by the over the top affection Aurora willing to give for nothing in return or was he just—dumb? The answer was definitely the latter, but not to the girl. She was hurt beyond relief. Her heart was glass, he dropped it, there was no band aid that could piece them together. The race in front of her was just an unimportant cameo in a movie. Not that she didn’t care about her team, it was the time where the girl didn't get the guy and everything went array. Was everything just a stupid game? Was this a revenge for being an absolute pain in the arse? He was a cheater having an illicit affair with a less crazy looking girl, or perhaps it couldn’t be categorised as cheating since they had never been together in the first place. All of those signs, she was mistaken. Then the tiny blue and yellow flying dots were getting blurry. It was the manifestation of her emotion, anger turned into sadness. And it was the cue for the tears to come.
“There’s d-dust in my eyes.” No, the dust was covering her heart for being abandoned by Nicholas. If it were legal and if she had the strength to throw this annoying Dell girl towards the whomping willow, without making her team embarrassed having her as their captain, she would do it in a heartbeat. If that flirty obnoxious human being were injured, technically it wasn’t her doing. But how would he feel? At the end of the day, his happiness was most important, not hers, not anyone else. If she were the one he was seeking for, nothing would change that fact no matter how determined and hard she tries. If it were not meant to be, it was not meant to be. But that realisation would come later, maybe tonight, maybe in a week. As for now, she had a plan to get rid of the pest in a friendlier manner.
The sling bag on the bleacher was thrown away towards the Dell creature, not hitting her, just close enough so the Ravenclaw captain could do her next prominent move. “My bag fell, oh no.” With an exaggerated ‘oh no’ and tear stains on her cheek, she walked over to get the bag back nonchalantly, maybe bumping the taller blond gryffindor in the process, “Nevermind, I got it” then, without giving her a piercing glance, she would step on her foot as hard as she could, as if she were stomping on something with the intention to destroy it. And just like that, she calmly sashay away from the crime scene and stood in between Dell and Nicholas. But that was not all, to make sure that contagion knew that there was definitely something interesting going on between Aurora and the incredibly adorable gryffindor racing captain, she would wrap her arm around his and said, “Also, it’s not Ran-veer, it’s Ran-vee-yay, just so you know” Shoo you pest.

Cheering for | Ravenclaw Team
For the moment, the Ravenclaw team was still going strong. In the lead, actually, and not just one, but two of the kids, with the others not far behind, while Hufflepuff had been struggling to keep up.
Dee whistled loudly, voicing her support even while more and more of the racers... crashed into trees and... got sprayed by bundimuns and... fell off their brooms in various ways. Well. If they enjoyed that sort of thing, who was she to judge?
Still, she got caught up in the race, watching the tiny figures on their even tinier wooden sticks dodge obstacles and even throwing each other forward like some odd variant of a tag team. When someone walked up beside her, it took a long moment before she noticed that she was being addressed.
Blinking, Dee turned to look at the newcomer, then turned her head up a bit to actually see who it was. Contrary to her expectations, it was no one she personally knew, no friend, classmate or acquaintance - it was not even a student. She did recognise the woman, of course, although she'd only seen her across the hall at mealtimes, a few times. It took her a moment to actually remember the name of the new professor of flying, which wasn't too surprising since Professor Stube had arrived shortly before they had gone off to Christmas break and it had only been a few days since Dee had returned from her stay at her grandparents' home. Add that to the fact that Dee tended to avoid brooms and all sports associated with them like they were a contagious disease, it was no wonder that she needed a second to connect name and face.
Professor Stube already seemed way more excited about the race than Dee was. Likely part of her job description, she guessed.
"Yes, wonderful," she agreed a little hesitantly, an amused smile tugging at her lips. About twenty degrees (Celsius) too cold for her tastes, and it would be worse on the brooms with wind beating at you and your fingers freezing solid around the broom shaft, but... sure. A wonderful day for racing. Dee was thankful that her sport took place inside, with proper heating and neither wind nor snow to contend with. (Although sometimes self-made thunderstorms.)
Finally remembering (some) of her manners, Dee returned the greeting with a bright smile. "Uh, hello Professor!" It was, however, not enough to remember to introduce herself as well. "I'm cheering for Ravenclaw," she replied, pointing at her own hat and turning back to the race. "We're in the lead-" Or they had been, at least. She wasn't quite sure what had happened in the meantime, but the Ravenclaw racers seemed to have barely moved, while Hufflepuff had taken the lead. Drat. She'd been looking forward to teasing Jack about losing to a bunch of first years. "Umm," she made and scrunched up her nose, more than a little confused. "We were in the lead. Is that... a good strategy? Pausing like that?" There had to be some deeper purpose she couldn't see due to her lacking knowledge of the sport, right?

She let the other girl speak with the professor and turned her attention back to the game. Her eyes were focused on Lin and Emily, her two best friends. She wanted to see who targeted her friends and who to add to "must kick" list. And soon enough, a spell was aimed at Emily. "YOU KEEP YOUR STUPID SPELLS OFF ME FRIEND OR I'LL KICK YER FACE!" She hollered, doubting she could be heard. At least Emily dodged. Juniper clapped loudly and watched the rest of what was going on. Juniper might of lost her voice the moment the co=captain launched Emily forward. "YES ARI! GO EMILY!" She jumped up and down- but NOOO! Emily went flying! Time stopped for Juniper as her voice caught in her throat, watching Lin dive for her best friend. They both went down. "NOOOO!" She cried in anger and worry."I hope they're okay... c'mon girls, get back up!" She urged her friends to fight the current of the water and find their brooms. Maybe even flip off the other team in the process. Emily and Lin were so close... someone else was in the lead, but he seemed hurt. She absent-mindedly pet her ferret while she kept her eyes on her two friends.

The end of the race was almost upon them, and it looked like things had finally started breaking in favor of Team Hufflepuff. What a strange turn of events this whole race had taken. The much younger and inexperienced players, on both teams, seemed to be walking away with it thus far.
AngelFyre began to feel that familiar rush of adrenaline as she looked up in the direction the racers would be coming from on their way to the finish line and she squealed with excitement as she saw it was Simon who was in the lead. He was leaning forward, in a low posture on his broom, and he zoomed right past all of the spectators who erupted in a loud clamoring of cheers, whistles, and thunderous applause as he, and he alone, crossed that FINISH LINE!!
AngelFyre, who had not yelled his name out once during the whole spectacle and who had momentarily forgotten entirely about the redhead sitting a couple of rows ahead of her, leaped up from her seat and yelled WAY TO GO SIMON!!! WOO HOO!!! for all she was worth, clapping rapidly and smiling as broadly as she ever had. She was just about to turn to Phoenix to offer her condolences on the Ravenclaw loss, when seemingly out of nowhere, she watched at first in some confusion and then in abject horror as Simon was struck, not once, but three times by objects. What the bloody he.... The race was over, people!
And as if she were watching a movie being played in slow motion, she saw that one of the objects hit him in the back of the head. It was then that his proud, erect posture slumped over and he slipped from his broom, beginning his unimpeded descent to the ground. There was no one else on a broom coming up to the line to save him, like Serena had been able to save Jack earlier, so like a sack of potatoes, he went down. HARD.
Fear gripped every nerve cell in AngelFyre's body. She quickly moved past Phoenix, apologizing to her for leaving so suddenly, and raced as fast as she could to the hospital wing, praying for him with every step she took.

The magic is real.
