Allison and Ebony play wizard's chess 𝙲𝚕𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚍

]I sat patiently in the Great Hall waiting for my friend to show up. While I was waiting excitedly for her arrival, I thought it would be a good time to finish up some last minute homework assignments and get caught up on any missing homework that I might have. Even thought I'm only a first year, the homework is tougher than I thought.

Anyways, Today was the day that my friend was going to teach me how to play Wizards Chess for the first time. I have played the Muggle's version of chess but have never played the magical version of chess so I was quite nervous and a little anxious about how the results would turn out but I knew my friend would be patient with me.

A few minutes later, my friend showed up. "Hi Ebony! It's so great to see you! Sorry for my late owl! I have been very busy I said. She showed up with a giant chessboard in her hand. "Wow. I have never seen a chessboard that big! I said. We both sat down and I was listening attentively to her explaining the rules to me. She was telling me about all the different pieces in chess

I stepped into the hall, the bright lights blinding my eyes for a second. When they adjusted, I saw my new friend, Allison, sitting at the Gryffindor table with some homework spread out in front of her. I walked over to her, settling myself in the seat opposite to heres.
"Hi Allison!" I smiled, waving.
"Hi Ebony! It's so great to see you! Sorry for my late owl! I have been very busy," she said.
"Hey! It's great to see you too! Sorry for my late owl as well, I've been busy with homework and stuff," I replied. I set the huge chessboard I was holding onto the table and groaned. It sure was heavy to lug here, I'm glad that I could finally put it down.
"I take it you know the rules of chess? It's the same as Muggle chess, expect, you move the pieces by saying the piece name and the square you want to send it to. For example, if I want to move my pawn two steps out, I would say pawn to e4. It would move on it's own; look," I explained, pointing at the pawn which was now gliding two squares forward. I loved watching the pieces move; it was quite satisfying. At least, for me. I didn't know about Allison, but I assumed so because... how could it not?

When I saw my friend arrive, I put away my stuff and she brought out a giant chessboard. She asked if I knew how to play chess. I responded with "Yes, I do know how to play chess but my skills are quite rusty. I am glad you are showing me how to play!" I said. Ebony gave me an example of how to get the pieces to move. She said "pawn to e4" and I excitedly watched the piece move to that square. Something about the moving pieces intrigued me. "I absolutely love magic!" I said excitedly.

I can now see why magic is useful in today's society even when it comes to playing a game like wizard's chess. After showing me an example of how to move the pieces, we started a game. "Pawn to A3" I said boldly with confidence. Sure enough, I watched in awe as my piece moved to the square I asked it to move to. "Ebony, this is so cool. Thank you so much for teaching me how to play wizards chess although I do feel bad that you had to carry such a heavy chessboard." I said.

"I know this is an off-topic question, but I have an extra box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and I was wondering if you wanted any of them? I am eating some out of a box myself but I have an extra box if you wanted any. I am a major sweet-tooth and love candy!" I said.

"Ebony, this is so cool. Thank you so much for teaching me how to play wizards chess although I do feel bad that you had to carry such a heavy chessboard," Allison said.
"I'm glad you're enjoying this, Allison. And it was no problem, I'm actually happy that I have a chance to use this chessboard. It's been at the bottom of my trunk since the start of the school year and I there wasn't anyone to play with," I exclaimed. I sure was glad to be able to find someone who I could have fun playing chess with.
"I know this is an off-topic question, but I have an extra box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and I was wondering if you wanted any of them? I am eating some out of a box myself but I have an extra box if you wanted any. I am a major sweet-tooth and love candy!" Allison said.
"Sure, I would love to have some!"I replied as I directed my moves. Those beans are one of my favourite wizarding treats, though I'm more fond of Drooble's best blowing gum. I love how Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans have a whole load of interesting flavours like boogey, vomit, grass, pepper... etc. It's called Every Flavour Beans for a reason. I've always wondered how they've managed to charm the weird flavours into the beans. Is the flavouring natural, or magicked into the beans? If it's natural, how would they have made the vomit flavour? Did they actually collect somebody's vomit and...? I hope not. I suppose I'll never know.
Looking back at the chess board, I realised I've let Allison take a couple of my pieces already. I was too into thinking about Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans that I was distracted. And, chess isn't exactly my strong suit. I turned my attention back on the chessboard and Allison, watching as our piles of fallen pieces started to increase.
"Well, your strategy worked, I've been distracted enough to let you take the lead. Not sure you needed it though, you seem like you're so good at chess," I laughed. I moved my knight to defend my castle.

As we continued to play chess, I gave her some of the leftover jellybeans that I had. She was telling me about another wizarding-world treat that she liked called Drooble's best blowing gum.
"I have never heard of that treat before. I suppose if we ever end up taking a trip to Hogsmeade, I'll have to try some! I love gum!" I said.

She then went on to explain the flavors of the beans. "I find it hilarious how they have such funny tasting flavors. I've had the soap flavored one and let me tell you that it tastes horrible. I said.

"Yes, I also wondered how they charm weird flavors into the beans as well. I think they use some sort of charm or spell to put them into the beans.". I said.

I looked to see that I have already taken a bunch of my opponent's pieces. Maybe I'm better at this than I thought I was. I glimpsed at the board hoping to find a sufficient enough move to win the game. She was complimenting me on my ability to play chess. It was great that my friend could share some of her magical traditions with me as I grew up in a muggle household.

"I have never heard of that treat before. I suppose if we ever end up taking a trip to Hogsmeade, I'll have to try some! I love gum!" Allison said. I can't believe Allison has never heard of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum! It's the most amazing magical treat there is, in my opinion.
"Really, you've never heard of them? I'd love to have some with you when we can get them in Hogsmeade. Too bad we can't enter Hogsmeade until we're third years," I said, twisting my lips in a grimace. I peered at the board. It was time to focus on the game, but I could never get enough when we're talking about magical treats. I could always multi-task, I suppose.
"Yes, I also wondered how they charm weird flavors into the beans as well. I think they use some sort of charm or spell to put them into the beans." Allison said.
I laughed.
"I think so too, there's no way they used somebody's boogey and smushed it into a bean or something," I replied, giggling. Meanwhile, I took a pawn, who slunk off to the side after being taken down by my bishop. I've always thought it violent in how the chess pieces were broken up when they were taken. That resulted in, after many games, the pieces being quite battered.
Didn't this encourage violence for children when they played with it? But, no matter what, chess is always fun. Besides, the miniature statues weren't really alive, were they? It was a question I had never been able to figure out.
I turned to Allison to ask on her opinion, but I realised I should really focus on the game were were playing instead of getting sidetracked on irrelevant things... I just found it really hard to focus when I actually had a friend to talk to.

My friend was shocked to hear that I have never heard of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum. She told me it's the most amazing magical treat there is. "It does sound amazing" I said. "Like I mentioned before, I am a major sweet tooth and love candy or anything sweet. I know if I eat too much sugar, it could damage my teeth. That's the only downside of eating sweets" I said.

"Yes. I really wish first and second year students were allowed to go to Hogsmeade. I'm really behind on my classwork and I hope to catch up on it. How are you doing in all your classes? I got an E on my first Transfiguration assignment." I said. Transfiguration was not my favorite subject at Hogwarts but seeing as it is a compulsory subject, I know that we have to take it if we want to advance in our lives at school. I think an E is pretty good for a difficult class.

"I had a curious question Ebony. After the pieces are shattered after playing wizard's chess, do they automatically repair themselves if you wanted to play again or do you need to use Reparo (the mending charm) to repair them? I've always wondered that" I replied. My mind begin to wonder off into space. "Sorry for asking so many questions. There are so many things about the wizarding world that I still don't know about and am learning. I love to learn!" I said.

After we completed our game of chess, we thought about what our next activity would be. Hey, Ebony. What would you like to do next? So far, you've taught me some of your traditions in the wizarding world. Maybe I can show you what it's like growing up in a Muggle household." I said. I prepared to help my friend gather up her stuff so we could leave the Great Hall and talk about what our next activity would be.

"That's quite alright. Yeah, I use Reparo if the pieces are too damaged after a game, but usually I just leave them. I really should use Reparo more, however, so that they can look more new," I said, motioning at the battered pieces.
Thinking about magic and the mending charm, my mind wandered to Charms class, my favourite class here at Hogwarts. I really liked Charms class; it always felt great to be in that classroom, with people waving their wands and shouting incantations... and then of course, the success in doing a charm felt great as well. But success in any class, really, feels brilliant.
Our game of chess finished, resulting in a stalemate (a draw). I wasn't awesome at chess, so it didn't really disappoint me. Besides, it was just a friendly game.
"Hey, Ebony. What would you like to do next? So far, you've taught me some of your traditions in the wizarding world. Maybe I can show you what it's like growing up in a Muggle household," Allison said after we packed the chess pieces and board away into the box. The aspect of just learning more about Muggles was fascinating, and I became really exited. To some people, it may be crazy to be exited to learn about the non-magical folks that were a world away from us, but to me, it just was learning something new.
"That would be brilliant! I would love to learn more about the Muggle world," I replied, dusting myself off after the game. Just the thought of having to Reparo all the chess pieces again one more time was extremely tiring.
"Shall we come back here next time, or...?"
I looked questioningly at Allison as I stood up to leave the Hall.
"Oh, and, where should we meet next time?" I further asked near the entrance as we exited together.
