Stepping out the front door of the castle, Grace sighed and smiled. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, complete with white fluffy clouds, blue sky, and a gentle breeze not cold enough to freeze. She was excited to get some time to herself after a whole week of classes and social interaction. Sure, sometimes she loved being social, but after a while, it became draining and stressful. She just wanted to sit and do her puzzles in peace.

Her journey to find a good spot led her to the Great Lake, frozen over due to the cold winter weather. She remembered fondly a recent excursion to the lake with all those people ice skating and falling and dancing and laughing. She was glad to see the skaters weren't out here today. It was a delightful experience, but also a loud one. And she really wanted some quiet.

Grace unrolled her two-sided blanket at the base of a big tree, shaped seemingly perfectly to act as a backrest, and sat down, pulling out her puzzle book. She flipped to the sudoku section and got to work. Every now and then, she would find herself getting distracted by birds chirping or flying in and out of the tree, by students wandering the grounds, by the small bursts of wind, but overall, she was focused, happy to finally be alone and doing what she loved most.

It had been a rather difficult and long day for Blair. Her day started off with her being late to her tutoring in her Transfiguration class, as she over slept. She was then even more late after struggling to find her robes only to discover that one of the girl's in the dorm had hidden Blair's out of spite. Once tutoring was finally over for the day, she headed to lunch only to end up spilling some juice down her front and having to struggle to find clean clothes to wear. After changing, Blair had to weave her way through some students to avoid any bullies that might want to mess with her more.

Finally, however, Blair was able to relax. She managed her way outside of the castle and was excited to explore a bit. She didn't really like exploring alone, but her only friends seemed to be busy that day as she hadn't seen them, so she was going to have to do it alone that day. Blair started her way down the castle hill, bundled up in her warm robes to keep the chill away from her already cold self. She was always cold, for whatever reason. She thinks she got that from her mother.

Blair decided that the lake was perhaps the most peaceful place to go to to get away from all of the noise of the castle. With that in mind, she made her way towards the now iced Great Lake, trying to be careful as to not slip and fall down the rest of the way.

Grace had completed two puzzles when she heard snow crunching significantly closer to her than usual. Most of the students she'd heard this morning had been pretty far off, sticking closer to the walkways. She looked up from her book to see a blonde girl carefully making her way through the snow.

She looked a little... sad. Does she not like the snow? Grace wondered. No, that couldn't be, she certainly had the choice to stay inside, but she's out here. Maybe she had a bad day. I know how that can be; bad days aren't frequent, but when they do happen, it feels like the end of the world. And what makes me feel better on bad days? Kindness.

"Hello there!" Grace called out to the girl as she trudged through the snow. "Fancy meeting someone else out here this beautiful morning. I thought I'd be alone sitting in the snow by a frozen lake. Seems kind of boring on the surface, to be honest, but I came out here for the peace and quiet, so I can only assume you're here for the same."

Grace stood up as the girl got closer.

"I'm Grace," she said, sticking her gloved hand out for a shake. "I'm a first-year Ravenclaw and my favorite smell is the way it smells right before a big snow. Kind of like the way the air smells right now, actually." She paused, closing her eyes for a second and breathing deeply.

"Yup, it's definitely going to snow soon," she continued with a grin. "Love it. What's your name and your favorite smell?"
