Hufflepuff pride with @Delphinia Averescu

"I think all the houses have their strengths and downfalls but honestly? Hufflepuff is best," he stated his opinion. Sure, that opinion was weighted heavily since in fact he was a Hufflepuff himself and furthermore, talking to a Hufflepuff comrade, but it didn't make his opinion any less different than any other time - just more outspoken. "I mean, we're loyal and determined, patient, dedicated, kind, fair, hardworking, dependable and compassionate. Can't really get better than that and we sort of touch upon the other houses." He loved being in Hufflepuff and felt that he embodied a lot of those traits. It made him quite proud to be in his house.

"I bet your father is proud of the house you're in. You can still show wit and wisdom in the house of the badger,"
he smiled kindly. "How often does he write back?" he wondered if it was pretty often. She had just read a letter and went to return one at rapid speed so she either missed him very much or she was very lonely there at Hogwarts.

Simon wondered when his own father would write back - if at all. Hell, he wondered if it even got to him. There was also an even slighter chance that the person he thought was his father wasn't and he was just going down some odd rabbit hole in this search.

She giggled again when he said HufflePuff was the best. "I agree; I think it's a very cool house. And the people there are very nice." She listened to him speak of Hufflepuff's good traits. "That's true. And I'm glad that I'm in this house! And yes, my father is proud of my house. He even told me in one of his letters that he had, and I quote, 'put up his old Ravenclaw sweater and swapped it out for a new Hufflepuff one'. He's usually supportive of me. And he also writes back almost all the time. I very much miss him." She told Simon about her father and everything he had done for her. "He's really nice; One time when one of my friends was having money troubles, he took me to the store and we bought an entire load of food and clothes for her!" She giggled, recalling how proud her father was of himself and of her, though she hadn't really done anything. She chatted more to Simon; she liked how he would listen to her, not many people tolerated her consistent chatter. "Anyways though, what about your father? Do you write him often, and does he write back often? I bet you miss him a ton."

Spilling about the father to @Delphinia Averescu

"Ah, my father.....in this case, is my Aunt Maggie," he said and then paused, realizing how that didn't sound right at all. "I mean, the person at home that I write to and get frequent correspondence in return is my beloved and amazing Aunt Maggie." He hoped now that made a little more sense.

"I am here, seeing if there's a letter from - well - who I think might be my father,"
he said and sighed. He probably sounded like an absolute train wreck. "I sort of hoped it somehow got lost in the shuffle of these murderous owls." He smiled to her.

"So...because I feel obligated to make this make sense...but you'll get a view into how crazy my life seems compared to a normal person and not something I normally air out upon first meeting - this man, you see, came to my home over the Summer and left a box when he found out my mum had passed away. I tried to catch up with him but he was gone. I probably shouldn't have but I opened it and inside were letters that my mum had written him and photographs of the two of them. I'm nearly certain he's my father. And uh - I wrote to him. At holiday. I'm sort of hoping perhaps he writes back but I mean...he didn't even know I existed so popping someone a note to say HEY, YOU'VE GOT A SON, SURPRISE! is probably a lot to take in. I'm not sure I'll hear back. Not even sure his letter ever got to him."

Delphinia paused, but then after a moment, gave Simon a comforting smile. "Hey, it's totally fine. I'm sure if it is your father, he'll immediately take a liking to you. You're a great person after all, from what I've seen." She grin wider and gave him a gentle punch in the shoulder. "And if it's not your father and some random dude, at least you'll have me so that you never live it down!" She was joking to try and lighten his mood. She then got a little serious. "Honest, though, I could never imagine life without my father. I feel so bad for you." She put her hands behind her head. "Anyways... I'm a little bit of the opposite. My mom is a little strict, and she's been very mad at me and my father about sending me to Hogwarts. But it's not Father's fault, it's my fault, for having stupid magic or whatever, and being stupid smart or whatever, and she's being totally rude about it to Father mostly, and not me, which I think is totally ridiculous because-" She took a small breath in to calm herself, and her expression softened. "Sorry..." She looked down. "Me and my mom have never had a great relationship, I guess."

Getting to know @Delphinia Averescu

He nodded, knowing some of his friends that were like that - close with one parent but not necessarily the other. Sometimes it was because they were too much like that parent and sometimes it was because the parent was jealous that they were "daddy's girl" or whatever. Still, he hoped that as time went on, things with Delphinia's family could make more sense and heal. They had time.

"You needn't feel sorry for me the in the slightest," he assured her. "I've got Aunt Maggie and I've been with her always, and just her and I since I was three. She's awesome. Truly. She's the nicest, most selfless person I've ever known and if I ever turn out half as great as she is then I've done something wonderful." She was giving and kind and made everyone smile. If someone had to have the misfortune of not having any parents well, they'd want someone like Aunt Maggie around.

"I'm pretty certain it was my father. I mean - same facial features and everything. Plus, I just got this feeling you know and sometimes I wonder if it's because - well, you know, that we're kind of the same."
He meant how his father was a vampire and he was a dhampir but that certainly wasn't something you said to someone on your first meeting!

The signs were there. Simon was pale, his pupils were a little large in the low lighting of the Owlery, and when she playfully punched him she might have felt his coldness.

"So when you're not hanging around vicious creatures like these owls, what do you like to do?" Change of subject was good - for both getting off the father topic but also for learning more about a new friend.

"Well," She started, "I enjoy reading. And I very much enjoy violin." She smiled. "It's a fun activity. Plus, it's challenging; I like challenges." She then looked at him. "Maybe I could even show you how sometime!" She crossed her right leg over her left. "Anyways though, I don't think these owls are vicious. Maybe that one was in a rush? Anyways, most of them are very sweet." She gave a little scratch to the owl that was going to send the letter to her father, and it cooed softly. "I wish I had my own. Though, I'd rather have a toad. Or a rat. They're both very cute." She knew she may have been being ridiculous and annoying, but she began chatting about her love of rats, throwing in phrases like "Because they're so cute!" And, "Their tiny ears are so round and twitchy," And strangest of all, "Have you seen how cute it is when their nose twitches?" She continued chatting like she always did. Then about another 5 minutes talking about toads. "I think if I am able to, I'd like to have one as a pet one day. They're sweet and energetic. A bit like myself." She giggled. "Anyways, though, what do you enjoy doing?"

Pet talk with @Delphinia Averescu

"I'd love for you to show me the violin sometime," he said first and foremost. That was an instrument that he had never even held before. Certainly he knew how they sounded and they were beautiful. "That's my thing, music. I don't know how to play the violin though. I can do the guitar and the piano. I also like to sing and dance and write my own music." It consumed a lot of his time and he loved that. "I also like learning about the magical world around me so when I have questions that we haven't learned about I write them down so I can go research the answers in the Library. Other than that, I'm either hanging out with friends, reading a book, or reading the Bible." Sure, that was technically a book but it still seemed to warrant a special specification in his mind.

He watched as she patted the owl and this one didn't do anything violent back. "I decided on getting an owl during the winter break. I don't know, I was at home and thinking I wanted to send a letter to some of my friends here from school but it's not like I can mail it. I didn't know where they lived but the owls know. I don't know how the owls know but they know. So I figured maybe spring or summer I'd get one only...a friend of mine passed away over the break and I don't know how it happened but her pet rat survived the car accident and he made his way to Hogwarts. People think I'm crazy but it's Rascal. I'm sure of it. He's in my dorm now but I'm going to keep him and get his strength back and he's going to be the best little guy with the best little life." Too much heartache and change for that poor little rat. Simon was going to do his best to make sure he was happy.

Delphinia was a bit taken aback; It was quite the tragic story, after all, but she was still able to speak. "That's so sweet of you!" Delphinia smiled. "I think it's so considerate that you would take care of a creature that most would consider insignificant and useless. And I'm so sorry about your friend... Was she a good person?" Delphinia asked this, sounding stupid. Obviously, she was a good person, you numbskull! She told herself in her mind, biting her bottom lip. "Sorry. Nevermind, you don't have to answer that. I'm sure she was." Delphinia rolled her eyes, not at Simon but at herself. "I bet she would have been so grateful of you had she still been here." She didn't know whether or not it sounded like she was mocking him... She hoped it didn't, however. She didn't intend to offend him, she simply intended to comfort him about his friend. "At least we can be friends now, though! Like, friends for the rest of ever!" She grinned widely at him. "And since we're both Hufflepuffs, we're basically gonna be stuck with each other for the next about 7 years. So like, neither one of us can back out of it!" She giggled at her own joke.

Past memories and new plans with @Delphinia Averescu

"She was actually a fellow Hufflepuff," he said, unsure if Delphinia would have known her. "She was in third year, Alexa Mackenzie. She had brilliant red curly hair and a bright smile," he paused. Talking about her was a little easier with the days that passed. Still, she was the one that first showed him around Diagon Alley before his first year at Hogwarts and she was the one he shared a close friendship with. She was the one that they had shared dances with near the fireplace in the Common Room. The two had grown very close and he'd miss her immensely.

"True, can't change houses," he said and smiled to her. He'd never have wanted to. Granted, he didn't know much about the house system when he first got to Hogwarts and which traits belonged to which houses but he was certainly a Hufflepuff through and through. No doubt about that. "Well, technically we're only stuck with one another for five since I get out of here before you but hey, if we become super close friends then certainly, you'll have me for seven and then so," he smiled.

She was easy to talk to and he was glad that he had met her. "Maybe tomorrow we can meet in the Common Room or Rehearsal Room and you can show me that violin of yours?" He didn't see the letter there from his father and figured he probably should be heading back soon. One only could really take the Owlery for so long. It was drafty and had all those feathers all around. "If you've got the time. It was quite nice meeting you Delphinia and I look forward to more encounters!" Simon smiled as she agreed to it. "See you soon!"
Simon has left the therad.
