2022, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs. Slytherin: Match 4

She knew she wouldn't be the complete target of this round, since Katrina was without a wand, but she was still certainly the one under fire by her fellow second year. Of course, it wasn't like Starlee hadn't been doing the same. However, the girl certainly seemed to be somewhat of a pro a dodging their spells, neither her's nor Illowy's managed to hit. Thankfully Starlee was quite on top of things again and managed to easily evade the oncoming spell.

Just take a moment to concentrate more. Try to predict your opponents movements, and aim ahead. It sounded much easier than it was to put in practice. They could certainly still win this.

It wasn’t an unfamiliar feeling to be the target of both of her opponents’ spells. In fact, much of the last match had been this way, and while her ability to dodge had been a bit…well…dodgy back then, the vast number of hours she had spent honing this very skill seemed to be paying off.

With an almost ballerina-like nimbleness, Adeline side-stepped a large burst of wind and ducked underneath an intimidating amount of fire. The heat from the spell brought back painful memories of the burns she had endured in her first match, making the girl wince slightly, but at least this time, she had managed to get out of the way.

Though Addie shot a spell of her own at the Slytherin second year, yet another familiar feeling crept up as she watched her opponent avoid it with great ease.

Glancing over at Katrina, she now saw that her partner’s wand was back in her hand and the two were both equipped and ready to fight.

Round 3

It seemed that, perhaps, Illowy took Thomas' comment personally, setting Adeline on fire with a tenacious Incendio Duo. The Ravenclaw boy adored the spell, it was one of his favorites, and it always brought him joy to see it used to its greatest effect. Tom noted that these flames seemed to hold quite the staying power, perhaps Illowy had caught a particularly flammable part of her opponent's robe.

Flustered by the fire, it seemed, Adeline's spell rebounded onto herself. She would levitate against her will.

Starlee would fail to conjure the bubbles near enough to Katrina for any effect to occur. It seemed the Gryffindor was focusing entirely on dodging, no counterattack came from her.

Spectator Thread

With things pretty much back to where they started at the beginning of the duel, Starlee was honestly prepared for another field of misses. But she was surprised with just how things seemed to go - well, aside from her own attempt that is. Of course her bubbles spell didn't hit it's intended target whatsoever, and honestly it didn't even look like the older student had even tried to dodge it, it just looked so natural to avoid. At least there wasn't a spell heading her way.
Illowy, on the other hand, took Starlee's original strategy and managed to cast a rather long lasting Incedio Duo. 'Yes!' she mentally fist bumped herself, finally feeling like they were making progress.
What she hadn't been expecting was for Hughes' spell to backfire and for her to be promptly lifted into the air. Starlee almost gasping in concern, mainly for her opponents safety, as she knew all to well what could go wrong with a poorly cast Wingardium Leviosa. Honestly Starlee was happy that none of her spells had ever done so in a duel. It was more so the time her own Leviosa went wrong and she shot her owl in its cage out the window of the toppled over Hogwarts Express. But she certainly wouldn't be telling that to anyone anytime soon, and she tried to shake the thoughts out of her head. Now was not the time to be concerned with backfiring her spells. All she needed was a little more focus and she could land her spells.

With a confident swish and flick, Addie aimed another levitation spell toward her older opponent. But much to her surprise, instead of the Slytherin floating up into the air, she felt her own feet lift off the ground.

“Damn it,” she snarled, waving her wand frantically in an attempt to lower back down to the ground. Looking up across the piste at the other team, a similar experience to her previous duel, her vision was blocked by a burst of flame.

Addie could feel flames curling across her legs as she continued her weak attempt to reverse her levitation spell, anger building up and beginning to cloud her thoughts.

Action: Soon to be Owled

This duel simply had to go better than her previous, it was getting embarrassing the fact she continued to let her team down over her own stupid mistakes. Katrina gritted her teeth and, well, didn’t do much of anything.

She shook herself back to the present and sized up her opponents this time. Okay now it’s time to win.

Round 4

Seizing the opportunity, the snakes struck out against Adeline, who was still struggling against the effects of her failed Wigardium Leviosa. Both Starlee and Illowy successfully cast their Flipendo, sending the spells rocketing towards the Gryffindor girl in an exercise of coordination and skill. Even as Adeline extinguished herself, saving herself from the pain of fire, the Slytherins would not be giving her a chance to breathe. Falling from her critically failed Levitation Charm would also serve to add further injury to injury.

Perhaps Katrina had grown to be protective of her partner, seeing the second year battered and set alight seemed to awaken the immense potential in herself and her wand. Her Ventus fired out of her wand with incredible power, packing an extra punch that the Wind Jinx wasn't necessarily guaranteed to. The spell split mid-flight, making an attempt at striking down both Slytherins at the other end of the piste. Starlee was able to successfully avoid the gust, but Illowy found herself to be less fortunate, taking the full force of the ire of the Gryffindor.

This was starting to get interesting!

Spectator Thread

Illowy and Starlee knew just what to do the moment that Hughes launched herself into the air and both of them did so with relative ease. Sure, things were also a lot easier when your target was suspended midair, unable to move much, if at all, but Starlee was going to take this as a win. She felt her excitement rise, finally feeling as if they were making progress.

She watched as Walker sent a spell not at Starlee, as she had expected, but toward Illowy. Perhaps that was what caught the older student off guard, and why Starlee had managed to dodge the spells split. 'Thank goodness for that...' Of course, it looked like Illowy had been hit pretty hard. If only they taught healing spells in second year. She hated feeling useless like this, but the battle had to go on.
