Lizzy had found herself walking along the familiar path to the library that morning. She had come to the library so many times since coming to Hogwarts that it had almost become a second nature to navigate the way without thinking about it. A bag filled with schoolwork was slung over her shoulder and her wand in her pocket. Figuring that she could practice some spells or work on an essay while there, she came through the library doors.Interacting: -- ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: @Logan Baird
Sitting down at a table, Lizzy drew her bag up onto her lap. She rummaged through it to try and find an unfinished essay that she could get out of her way. Finding a transfiguration piece that needed some more work and revisions, she took it out. She dipped her quill into the ink pot and began to write, continuing her thoughts on the spell out onto the page.
After a good while spent perfecting the paper, she read it over and placed it, satisfied, back into her bag. She contemplated on getting out another sheet of paper to begin a history of magic assignment, but hesitated as her hand bumped the pocket where her wand lay. While there technically wasn't any work she needed to complete that involved offensive spells, it wouldn't hurt to brush up on a few spells for future duels.
Taking out her wand, she pondered which spell to work on. There were several that popped into mind, but things like Incendio probably weren't welcome in the library. Lizzy decided to work on Tarantallegra, as she hadn't used it in some time. There happened to be an old art figure model at the bottom of her bag, which she took out to practice on.
"Tarantallegra," Lizzy hissed, pointing her wand at the figure on the table. It stayed stubbornly still. Her eyes narrowed slightly. This was a simple spell, why hadn't it worked? She tried again, "Tarantallegra!" Nothing happened. Lizzy was beginning to get frustrated. She stared at the figure, silently willing it to move.

The Hufflepuff currently wore a bright red long sleeved shirt paired with a pair of jeans and boots. She did not want to wear the school robes around everywhere if she did not have too. The girl always thought of them as too bulky and warm.
The library was quiet, like most other days, she enjoyed that quiet as it kept her from getting distracted while casting spells or writing a paper. That was one of the main reasons she went to the library to study rather than her common room or dorm, there were way too many distractions in those places that kept her from getting anything done.
Making her way through the library, she spotted a table with only one other student and decided that she would sit there. She noticed that the other student seemed to be working on a spell as there was a figure sitting on the table in front of them and from Logan's perspective, the student looked to be getting frustrated. Being the kind but awkward person Logan was, she thought it was best if she assisted the student instead of letting them struggle.
"Do you need help with that?" Logan questioned the girl as she sat down, leaving a seat between the two of them to make sure she did not cross any boundaries. She did not want to make the other student uncomfortable just in case they really did not want any help, as some students preferred to figure it out on their own.

The annoyance for the spell was growing for Lizzy bit by bit as the figure stayed stubbornly still. This was why she was practicing, so something like this didn't happen during a duel, but it still was frustrating when it didn't go the way she had expected it to. That's when a girl came over to where Lizzy was and sat down beside her. She asked almost immediately if Lizzy needed help. Lizzy smiled, but a small voice in the back of her head nagged at her. What if the only reason the girl had come over was because she noticed that Lizzy was struggling with the spell? She could feel embarrassment slowly creep up on her.
She had convinced herself that she was just being paranoid, it couldn't be that obvious that she was having a difficult time. "Oh, um, no. I'm fine." No matter how hard she racked her brain, she did not remember seeing this girl anywhere around the castle. "I haven't seen you around Hogwarts, but that could just be that I'm still relatively new." Then, on further reflection she added, "Or maybe my head was just in a book."
That was most likely why she hadn't seen the other girl before. Lizzy loved to read, and she was constantly doing it. Sometimes this caused her to become oblivious to the world around her, especially when she was reading a really good book that she just got lost in. Time and time again, she had looked up from a good book to find several hours had passed when she had planned just to read for a few minutes.
Looking back to the figure on the table, Lizzy felt a new surge of determination to complete the spell. At the same time though, she did not want to fail again and have the other girl thinking badly about her. Deciding accomplishing what she had come to do was more important she raised her wand once more. "Tarantallegra!" And just like before, nothing happened.

"I'm Logan, third year Hufflepuff," she introduced herself to the younger girl as she spoke about never seeing her around. It made Logan smiled as the girl spoke of having her head in a book rather than observing her surroundings. The Hufflepuff still had a habit of starting to read a book and then completely forgetting or not knowing what was going on around her.
Silently, Logan flipped open her potions book and began reading over different recipes, occasionally using her quill to mark down different notes of what to pay attention to in the margin of the pages. While she read through the recipes though, she continued to keep an eye on the young student beside her. Logan did not want to embarrass the young girl, it was not like Logan was even the best at spells anyway.
"It took me three months before I was able to get even the slightest amount of movement." She looked up at the younger girl from her book as she started to speak. "I almost completely gave up, may or may not have skipped class a couple times." A soft smile was on the girl's face at the memory of skipping a few classes just because she could never get the spells correct. She had not only gotten detention, but also a rather angry letter from her father when he found out she was not going to classes. Skipping class, not something she would recommend, but she wanted the other girl to understand it was okay she could not get the spell yet.

Lizzy knew she could do this without any help. It was a simple, simple spell that should be cast without the barest of problems. However, that clearly wasn't what was happening as she repeated the spell a few more desperate times. She was getting tired of seeing the art model's inactive and limp form on the table.Interacting: @Logan Baird ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
The girl introduced herself as Logan, a third year Hufflepuff. Turning away from the figure, a reminder of failed spells, she smiled. "I'm Lizzy, first year Gryffindor. It's nice to meet you." It was truthfully nice to meet the Hufflepuff, and it would certainly be nicer under circumstances in which she was not struggling and most likely going to fail miserably at this spell.
Logan began to flip through the pages of what looked like a potions book. Thankfully, she had listened to Lizzy when she said she didn't need help. Many people that she had met would not be so kind as to listen to her when she said something like that.
"It took me three months before I was able to get even the slightest amount of movement." Lizzy looked at Logan as she said that. "It took you three months?" she asked. "And you skipped class because of it? Wh-" Lizzy was unable to find words for Logan's comment.

"Not the greatest thing I have done, do not really regret it either. One thing I regret is that I let my father find out about it. I would not recommend skipping class though." She looked at the girl with a soft smile on her face. It was strange that it was only two years prior that she was in the same position as this young Gryffindor girl in front of her.
"I have a recommendation for you, it is up to you if you do it or not. Do not spend all of your time focusing on one spell. If you only attempt the spell that you continue to fail you will become frustrated and not really be able to focus on anything else." She was not really sure if the girl would take the advice or not, but she always thought it better to give advice than to force someone to accept your help. At least with the recommendation the other person had an option not to completely follow through if they did not want to.

Lizzy was still fumbling for the right words when Logan glanced over to see her expression. She felt bad about the conflicted emotions that were probably dancing across her face at the moment, but she couldn't help it. On the first impression, Lizzy did not think Logan would be the type of person to skip class over a messed up spell. In her own opinion, she thought that Logan seemed more like the type of person that would constantly work to get the spell perfect and not to give up.Interacting: @Logan Baird ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
Logan saved Lizzy from speaking just then. "I wasn't planning to skip class, I was just brushing up on my spells for duelling, but I guess I wasn't quite as good at this as I thought I was." She shook her head and laughed quietly, "Of course I'm not. My first duel was... incredibly rough and even then I had practiced for weeks in advance and trained with an older year duellist, yet still couldn't make it through the first round."
Lizzy had been so disappointed to lose the duel so early on, she had thought about it for weeks on end. There had been a short sulking period somewhere in there as well, but ultimately she had told herself, quite forcefully too, to grow up. If she spent all her time dwelling on past events that were unable to be changed, she would never be able to improve herself for the future.
Logan preceded to give Lizzy some advice, and it sounded useful at that. "Alright," she said slowly. "Then what spell do you suggest that I focus on now?" Getting the Dancing Feet Spell out of her head sounded like a good idea right now. "Also, if you don't mind my asking, why didn't you regret it? Skipping classes that is."

"You are only a first year, most duelists are older anyways and know more spells so it is not really fair for yourself to put yourself down over potentially losing to an older student. You are at least trying, what about all the students that are too afraid of joining because they do not want to embarrass themselves in front of their friends?" She questioned the girl with a soft smile on her face as the younger girl asked what spell to work on next. She was not completely sure what spells the girl would have learned at this point, but she knew which ones would help the most with dueling, most of them were not really library safe spells though.
"Verdimillious, Incendio, and Curse of the Bogies are probably the best, although I would not recommend casting any of those in here. We would both end up with detention." The girl did not want to spend her weekend cleaning someplace because she was an assistance in the accidental destruction of the library. If the girl wanted she could meet her later to work on spells in the dueling room though.
Hearing the girl question about why she did not regret skipping class, a large grin formed on her face. "The castle is amazing when it is the middle of the day and there are very few people wandering. At night it is creepy and not the greatest, but in the middle it is amazing." She could remember being able to wander the halls without the fear of something jumping out and scaring her, in the middle of the day she as able to hear the birds chirping without hearing the consistent talking of the other students.

She nodded in understanding. "I know it's okay to make mistakes, but that doesn't mean I have to like making them." Shaking her head softly she said, "I just get so hard on myself over the smallest things." Here she was, telling a student she had just met her deepest feelings. Then again, talking to Logan felt natural and was easier for Lizzy than talking to most other people was.Interacting: @Logan Baird ☽ ➶ ☾ Mentioning: --
As Logan gave her advice, it cheered her up a bit and gave her some motivation. "Thank you, that's all very true" she said. "My first duel was against Opeila Winters and Dmitri Jones from Slytherin. Another first year and I were up against them. Looking back I realize I shouldn't be hard on myself for that loss, they are both very talented and like you said, I'm still only a first year." Logan was being very kind to her and Lizzy appreciated her kindness more than she could express to the older girl.
Smiling, she replied, "Oh no. I wouldn't practice any of those spells in here, I don't need another detention for using duelling spells outside the duelling room." Realizing that may have sounded a little odd for someone who didn't know the full background story of that, she added, "It's a long story. Cody Stevenson baited me into a duel in the Great Hall after throwing spiders and setting his owl on me." Her quick explanation would surely only bring forth more questions, so she broke off from the subject.
Lizzy nodded slowly, "That does sound amazing. I mean the halls are always so busy in the daytime and even the grounds are busy. Hogwarts certainly is an interesting school. I can tell now why you didn't regret skipping."
