Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff Broom Race Jan 2022

Avery grits her teeth as she flies through some heavy winds, holds back a curse as her already bloodied arms get more and more scratched up, and as she is hit with the gross liquid from the Bundimun, Avery lets out a noise that could only be classified as a growl. The girl's poor luck continues as she attempts to kick her way out of the constraints of the vines, but it is not enough, it is never enough.

It took only a moment to get back to his broom, with Tower's help. However, Hufflepuff immediately lost its momentum as the blue birds kept on flying by. Jack could feel the annoyance at his inability to stay on the broom, and his grip tightened on his silver arrow. These birds were going to pay.

Things had not gone right for Winter thus far, the young witch had been caught at the starting line and then had found herself the victim of her own spell. But hufflepuffs were diligent, and so she remounted her broom, ready to face the race once more.

Further ahead in the field, behind the main body of racers flew the trio of Serena, Jack and Clair. The former two having returned to their own brooms, the latter having caught them after hitting Winter with a rock in the opening moments of the race. Perhaps sensing that they were falling behind a group of first years, the two older badgers hatched a plan. Jack grabbed Serena’s broom, and using his strength in conjunction with physics that this humble racing commentator will not pretend to understand and flung the armoured fifth-year forward.

Of course, in doing so, he entirely failed to take into account the Ravenclaw first year who was with him. Before the prefect-turned-assaulter could properly process, he found himself dancing upon his broom, the spell from Clair finding its mark. Fortunately, he did manage to hold onto his mount, but his legs would not stop doing a little jig.

Slightly ahead of them raced local heartthrob and musician, Simon Kincaid. The dhampir pressed onward, catching sight of the Bundimum as he raced to catch the pack. Unfortunately, he was not quite as deft at avoiding the creature’s acid as he was at seeing it. To contrast, the rapidly approaching Serena Towers not only saw the creature, but narrowly avoided its secretions, luck it seemed was finally on her side.

The peloton had coalesced by the vines, yet, while the two blue-clad racers had managed to avoid their snares, the Hufflepuff captain was not so lucky. Fortunately, the sole woman in yellow broke through the vines before they could prove a problem and swiftly rejoined them in their race.

Following soon thereafter came Simon, the second year avoiding the snaring vines and following hot on the tail of the group ahead of him.

Serena too raced toward the vines, but where Simon had avoided the vines, she was destined to follow in the footsteps of her captain. The part-goblin’s speed proved her downfall as she crashed into the mess of greenery, her momentum stopped dead.

Racers streamed past the whomping willow, their speed proving too much for the colossal tree to match. One by one they passed it. Victoria Emily, then Lin, Ari and Avery, and finally Simon.

Victoria, Emily, Lin, Ari, Avery and Simon all passed the Whomping Willow at Speed 5 and are therefore safe from it’s grasp.

Beyond the willow stood another patch of woods, thorny bushes blocking the entrance to trees packed so densely to one another that racers would need to strain to avoid crashing into a branch or even a trunk. Emily and Victoria passed through first. Yet, whilst the former of the two Ravenclaws managed to avoid snaring herself on a thorn, the latter was not so lucky. The brunette would find blood was drawn, and it would continue to flow.

The second group would suffer much the same fate, Avery and Ari avoiding the thorns, but Lin was unfortunate enough to be caught.

The thick thicket of trees too proved a trial. Perhaps the pressure of leading the pack was getting to the petite girls up front, for both found themselves battered quite badly by the branches abound.

For those that followed, only Lin managed to escape unharmed, both Avery and Ari taking their fair share of tree-related trauma.

But as a whole, all five racers found themselves out of the woods, literally one might add, and in a relatively clear spot of track. At least for the moment.

But, so far, there was actually a chance that Ravenclaw would win this thing! This could turn out good in the end.
If only Ari would stop running into stuff. He was doing so well at first, and then as the race went on, he lost his mojo. It wasn't like his system was crashing after an adrenaline rush, as he was definitely still on one as he raced through the obstacles. He felt off-center, though, and he just hoped that he wouldn't get hurt much more. The Bundimun acid was really starting to sting.

Victoria smiled with delight when the whipping willow came out harmless. She had passed the stage she feared the most. But Victoria groaned in pain as the thorn touched her skin. She was really hurting and was starting to bleed. Victoria tried to ignore it, but it was quite difficult. Victoria gripped her broom tighter. "I have to do this." Victoria murmured firmly.

Emily was still in the middle of her race, onto her next unit, she was very excited for the finish. It had already been quite an interesting game. As she continued flying she noticed the whooping willow right in front of her. Everyone would recognise the big sweeping tree.

She helt tight onto her broomstick and took on some speed. as she swooped through the whooping willow tree. She looked back as she had managed to not be hit, and cried out of happiness. "Take that you old wimp!" She called out and started laughing out loud. She turned around, and started concentrating, back onto the game.
